I open my eyes silently, looking up at the dark canopy of my bed for a long few moments before I reluctantly get up, stretching as I climb from bed and head for the shower, silently preparing myself for another day of lessons. Weekends pass way too fast. I quickly get dressed and head into the common room, smiling when I see Draco lounging on the couch, looking past bored.
"Waiting for me?" I ask, smiling as I walk up to the couch and lean against the arm of it.
"If I was?"
"I'd say thank you and leave for breakfast."
He stands and silently walks with me, looking conflicted. I stay silent, knowing he'll talk when he's ready to do so. It takes him nearly the whole trip to the Great Hall, though.
"What happened yesterday doesn't mean anything," he finally says, looking at me.
"What happened yesterday," I ask, tilting my head to the side slight as I feign confusion.
He stares at me silently, unamused, before he rolls his eyes.
"I'm not friends with that girl now, if that's what you started thinking. Doesn't change what she is."
"I never expected that of you, Draco. I promise. I wasn't even going to bring it up."
He nods, looking satisfied that he's said his piece as we both sit down for breakfast. I immediately go for some eggs, opting for just that this morning. We have Defense Against the Dark Arts next, and I realized last week that it's best to go to that class on a light stomach. The stench of garlic is enough to make anyone sick, and I'd like to keep my breakfast down. Draco and I eat in mostly silence, occasionally chatting about random things, but never long enough to really count as conversation. Crabbe and Goyle enter at some point, but look lost with me beside Draco. When we've finished, Draco and I stand, and Draco waves off the two idiots as they, too rise. They gratefully sit back down to chow down on their large plates of breakfast.
"I don't know why we go to this class," Draco says as we head for the classroom, "It's not like this imbecile actually teaches us anything."
"Yeah, I know. And the classroom nearly makes me lose my food," I say, grimacing, "I don't know how those two can stomach that much food knowing what class they're going to."
"Crabbe and Goyle?" Draco scoffs, "Those two could eat through anything. Spend more time nicking food form the kitchens than they do anything else. Dunno how they do it without popping."
I laugh slightly, and Draco smirks in amusement.
"I don't know why you hang around with them, Draco They're so thick! How can you hold a conversation?"
"Can't. Why do you think I spend my time with the likes of you."
I scoff, raising a brow.
"The likes of me? I'll have you know that Father lets me help him grade sometimes. Hope I don't get any of your papers."
"You wouldn't dare! Severus would have you in detention for weeks."
"I doubt that. He's my father, and he never checks my grading, anyway. He's too busy giving horrid grades to Gryffindors."
"That right? Maybe I should inform him of your threat."
"Maybe I should tell him about the likes of me."
Draco rolls his eyes, and I smirk. As we enter the classroom, though, I grimace in disgust. God, how can this man stand this horrid stench! Draco and I sit in the back together, getting our parchment and quills out to prepare for the day of lessons.
"Ah, finally! Day's over," I say, walking out of History of Magic with a wide smile as Draco walks behind me, watching me oddly.
"Honestly, you act as though it's been days."
"Hey, Double Defense Against the Dark Arts followed by History of Magic? Worst day of the week!"
"Yes, well, now it's over, and dinner starts in an hour. What're your plans now?"
"I think I'm oging to try and talk Father into a private dinner for tonight. We haven't really done that since before school."
"Good luck with that. See you after dinner, then."
I nod and head to the dungeons as Draco heads off with Crabbe and Goyle to cause mischief.
"Father?" I call out, heading toward his office, "Father, may I come in?"
"Enter."
I speak the password and walk in, smiling as Father looks up from the papers on his desk.
"What is it? I'm grading papers."
"I wanted to know if you'd like to have dinner in here tonight with me, just the two of us, like at the Manor."
He stays silent for a long few minutes, and I look down, feeling stupid for asking.
"I'll let you get back to your work," I say, heading out the door and shutting it behind me.
I look toward the doorway to leave the common room and go to dinner, but I head to bed instead, my father's rejection stinging slightly. Hogwarts is great and all, but the lack of time with my father is going to take some getting used to. I change for bed and settle under my blankets, curtains drawn as I lay down and shut my eyes, willing myself to go to sleep.
Well, there's this chapter! Short, I know! I'm so sorry, but it's like 2 am, man, and I'm falling asleep typing this up, lol. More on the next chapter, to be sure! Poor Charity! Snape's clearly not a mushy guy, but a dinner with his daughter? Too busy grading papers tonight.
Well, thabba, thabba, thabba, that's all folks!
