GUESS WHO'S BACK, BACK AGAIN
PSYCHO'S BACK, TELL SOME FRIENDS!
but truthfully, I figured I should perhaps finish this... even though there's no end in sight... how long should I make this story?
let me know if you're still reading this! it's shorter than most chapters I think, but a little something to bring you all back. remember, reviews= faster updates. I'm also curious. Do you want chapters at this length or do you want them way longer? let me know.
... ... ...
So I'll settle for one day to believe in you
Tell me, tell me, tell me lies
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
(Tell me lies, tell me, tell me lies)
Oh, no, no you can't disguise
(You can't disguise, no you can't disguise)
Tell me lies
Tell me sweet little lies
Although I'm not making plans
I hope that you understand there's a reason why
Close your, close your, close your eyes
No more broken hearts
We're better off apart let's give it a try
Her doorbell rang later that night and Kenzie walked down the stairs to answer it, coming face to face with a limo driver.
"Miss Miller?"
She nodded.
"Elijah sends his regrets but his Mother has asked the whole family to be there to welcome all the guests. He has sent me to drive you."
She shrugged, following him out to the limo. He helped her in, handing her a glass of champagne before getting in the car for the drive to the Mikaelson's. She quickly downed the glass, checking over her makeup, just as they pulled up to a grandiose house. The driver pulled up to the front, getting out and opening her door, holding out a hand for her. She let him help her out, smoothing down her dress and taking a deep breath before walking to the front door and pushing it open, stepping into the busy foyer.
Kenzie noticed many appreciative looks from guys and girls and well as some jealous looks from those who knew she looked better than them. She ignored them all, glancing around to find Elijah. Her eyes met his and he looked her over, smiling that she had worn the dress he left for her. It was a ruby red ballgown with silver embellishments, a sweetheart neckline with a tight bodice before flaring out at the waist. Being a redhead, she often steered away from red but Elijah had taken a gamble and it had paid off. The shade of red complimented her fair skin and paired well with her fiery red curls which were gathered high on her head. A silver necklace and matching earrings finished off the look and Kenzie knew she looked amazing. Elijah had impeccable taste.
He walked down the stairs as Kenzie made her way towards him, noticing how dashing he looked in his tux.
"What are you doing here?" Damon asked stepping in front of her and in .6 seconds, deflating her good mood.
"I was invited." Came her scathing reply. "Now get the hell out of my way, my date is waiting for me." She pushed past him, using a little extra force as Elijah met up with her.
"Is everything okay?" He asked, looking behind her at Damon who was glaring daggers at them.
"Yes." She told him, smiling brightly.
"Then may I say, you look absolutely divine, Miss Miller." He grabbed her hand, placing a kiss to the back of it before bowing low.
"Brother, who is this you speak with?" A younger version of Elijah asked, walking up to them with a smirk.
"This is Mackenzie Miller. Mackenzie, my younger brother Kol."
"It's nice to meet you." The redhead told him with a charming smile as he reached out to take her offered hand, placing a kiss to the back of it. She smiled at the brothers. "You Original's better watch it, all this chivalry could go to a girls head."
The younger brother raised an eyebrow. "Originals?"
"I know everything that goes on around here." Kenzie explained. "even when I try to leave, I'm not allowed to."
"Kenzie?"
She turned at the familiar voice, one hand coming up to cover her mouth in shock as she saw her blonde friend in a gorgeous olive green mermaid style gown.
"Rebekah." She cried, rushing towards the blonde. "Please don't hate me. I had nothing to do with it, I tried to save you but they wouldn't let me, then I couldn't find you after, then they gave you back to Klaus and I kept hoping you would show back up and not want to kill me but you didn't and I-"
"You're babbling." Rebekah said with a fond smile. "I know you had nothing to do with it. I saw you try to save me right after that doppelganger bitch stabbed me. Thank you for that. I've never had anyone want to save me before."
Kenzie wrapped her arms around the much taller girl, feeling relieved at having the vampire she originally didn't like around again. Rebekah felt like her friend. Hers. And not a friend just because she had been pulled into the supernatural world, even if they had become friends because she had been pulled into that world. Plus she felt better having someone around that hated Elena as much as she did at the moment.
"I have so much to catch you up on." She whispered.
"We will. I promise. Is it true you are my brothers date? Damon has not won you back yet?"
"It was close." She muttered. "Then him and Elena kissed, again."
"Ugh." Rebekah replied with a sneer. "When I kill her, I'll make it extra painful for you."
"Not kill, just… maim?" She tried to suggest. She may have hated Elena and wanted to rip her face off sometimes but she didn't think she really wanted the other teen dead.
The blonde's sneer turned to a smile. "You can do better than Damon, you know. My brother is much better than that Salvatore."
"Yeah, there is that pesky thousand year old age difference though." She quipped.
"Please, please, please become a vampire." Rebekah begged her, "we could have so much fun together."
Kenzie smiled. "How about we celebrate tonight, okay?"
A nod. "Elijah is about to make a speech. Then we dance. Wait until you dance with him, that will win you over for sure."
Sure enough, Elijah and the rest of the family stood on the stairs, thanking everyone for coming before announcing that there would be a dance, as was tradition with their family. As everyone moved towards the ballroom, Elijah swept down the stairs, holding his arm out for her. She accepted it, letting him lead her into the ballroom.
"Centuries old waltz?" She asked. "Way to date yourself."
He smiled, moving them into a line of people as they stood side by side, holding hands. "Follow my lead. I do not doubt that you will pick up on this fast."
Rebekah glanced back at her with a grin. "My brother dances very well, it will sweep you off your feet."
The music started and they stepped forward before turning to face the other line of people before slowly walking towards them, through them and to opposite sides of the room. Elijah passed right by Elena, who was partnered by Damon and Kenzie's smile faltered.
"Do not think of them." Elijah leaned over to whisper, right before turning her around and into his arms as they began to glide across the floor. Kenzie knew that with Elijah's years of experience and her new vampire skills giving her even more grace that they looked amazing, even more so than the time she had danced with Damon at the Miss Mystic Falls Pageant.
They pulled away from each other before he spun her around again and everyone switched partners. A hand wrapped around Kenzie as the other hand grasped hers and she looked up into Damon's eyes.
"You're lucky we're at a party." She hissed.
"Why's that?"
"Oh I'm sure I promised to punch you or stake you, it's the least you deserve."
Damon pulled her closer, his hand tightening around her. "For the record, she kissed me, I stopped it. Besides, I'm not the one here with an Original Vampire."
"So?" She snapped. "Elijah is cool. Besides, he gave me this gorgeous dress to wear."
"That's all it takes to win you over? Some pretty clothes."
Her eyes narrowed at him. "It's a good start."
"Then I'll buy you a dress, I'll buy all the dresses you want." He told her with a smirk.
"That would work, if you know, you stopped kissing Elena."
"She kissed me, both times actually."
"You sat there, after you kissed and instead of telling me, tried to get me to stay here and not go to California. You ever think that maybe honesty is the way to go?"
Damon laughed, throwing his head back. "Honesty? You want to sit there and talk to me about honesty? Fine. Anything you want to come clean about?"
There it was again. He knew. He had to.
The music stopped and Kenzie pulled away with a glare. "We're done here."
"No, we're not and like I said before, we never will be."
"Could I interest you in a drink Mackenzie?" Elijah asked, appearing at her side.
She nodded, letting him lead her away to the refreshment table where he picked up two glasses of champagne.
"Are you okay?" Elijah asked.
Kenzie smiled. "Of course, why wouldn't I be?"
"You have an almost pinched look on your face since dealing with Damon."
"He does that to me."
"You are different, since I last saw you." He noted.
Kenzie sent him a sideways glance. "I've grown up."
"I can't quite put my finger on it, but you just seem… changed."
She responded with a shrug, about to ask him to come dance with her again when he looked past her and excused himself, telling her he had some business to attend to. Kenzie nodded, looking around until she found Rebekah, talking to her brother Kol. She walked up behind them just as Kol announced that she had changed and settling for mortals was the first sign of weakness. Rebekah replied that she wasn't settling but had brought Matt here to kill him.
"Really?" Kenzie asked with a raised as she stepped up beside the blonde. "Come on, he's like the only normal one left."
"Kenzie." Rebekah gasped. "How much did you hear?"
"A lot."
"Shall we dispose of her now, sister?" Kol asked, smirking at Kenzie.
"You will do no such thing." Rebekah hissed. "I like Kenzie, she's my friend."
"But now she knows what you plan to do, she's just going to tell them all and stop it."
The redhead stared at Kol, tilting her head to the side. "Ya know, I don't know if I like you very much yet."
"I don't really care." Kol replied, stepping closer to her.
"Kol, don't." Rebekah snapped.
"See?" Her brother replied. "You're going soft, sister."
He walked away and the blonde rolled her eyes before turning to her friend.
"I'm going to talk to him. I will catch up with you later."
"Seriously, can you not kill Matt though? He's innocent."
Rebekah pursed her lips. "Fine. I'll see you later Kenzie."
"Make good choices." Kenzie yelled after her with a grin.
She turned back to the party, trying to find someone she recognized before deciding to go on a little trip through the house to see if she could find anyone. She turned down a hallway and walked past a room with an open door. She glanced in on it as she walked past before doing a double take and backing up to see it was Damon on the ground.
"Damon." She cried, falling to her knees beside him as he began to move.
"He's fine."
She looked up to see Stefan standing there, looking down at them. "What did you do?"
"Break his neck. Elena needed to go talk to Esther and Damon wouldn't let her so she asked for my help."
Damon groaned, opening his eyes and seeing his brother there, he pushed Kenzie back so he could rush Stefan. Kenzie went flying back, her head smoking the corner of the desk and opening up a gash on the back of it.
"Where is she?" Damon yelled, slamming Stefan back against the wall.
"Son of a bitch." Kenzie cried, grabbing the back of her head.
"Red." Damon let go of his brother, turning back to her.
"Stay away from me, you asshole." Kenzie yelled. Her head was bleeding, a lot. The wound was deep, he had pushed her hard but she knew she would heal soon and she couldn't be there when she did, it would cause too many questions.
"Let me help you." Damon said, grabbing her arm to help her stand.
"You've done enough. I'm so sick of you, I'm so sick of it all."
"Mackenzie?" Elijah appeared in the doorway. "I heard your scream and rushed here."
"Oh look, your white knight." Damon muttered with a roll of his eyes.
Kenzie pushed him away moving towards Elijah. "At least he won't go and kiss Elena."
"She kissed me." Damon yelled as Elijah led her out of the room.
"Come, we'll get it looked after." Elijah told her, trying to get a look at her head.
"No." Kenzie cried, pulling away. "I mean, it- it's fine. Not that deep, just point me to a bathroom so I can wash the blood out."
"There's a lot of blood, Mackenzie let me look." He gently but firmly grabbed her arm so he could move closer and even though she had enhanced strength, it was nothing compared to an Original. He turned her around to look at the back of her head, feeling around for the cut and frowning when he couldn't find anything.
"What is this?" He murmured, loosening his grip as moved his other hand to look again.
Kenzie pulled away and looked down the hallway at the study she could hear Stefan and Damon arguing in. "I- I should go home."
"Not so fast, Miss Miller. Perhaps we should go somewhere to talk?" The look he gave her left no room for argument and he grabbed her hand, leading her down another series of hallways before pulling her into a bedroom. He closed the door behind her, as she turned to face him.
"I was correct in saying you have changed since I saw you last." He asked.
"It was a small knick, no wonder you couldn't find it." She told him.
Elijah left the room, returning moments later with a woman that Kenzie didn't recognize. Elijah turned her to face the redhead, one hand coming up to grab her arm, making a small cut across the wrist. Kenzie could smell the blood and it was intoxicating but she forced herself to take deep breaths, all the while breathing out of her mouth so as not to smell it any more than she had to. Elijah responded by lifting an eyebrow, turning the woman and compelling her to forget this ever happened. She left and he turned back to his date.
"What were you doing?" Kenzie asked.
"Testing something. You do not have to hide things from me Mackenzie. I heard your breathing hitch, I saw the way you fought back the blood lust, however hard to see. You are a vampire now."
She lifted her chin defiantly, all the while wondering how he could figure it out when no one else could. None of her friends, save a few knew and here came Elijah, all back from being daggered and able to figure it out. Seeing he wasn't backing down, she let out a sigh as she relaxed.
"No one knows." She whispered.
"How did this happen?"
She sat on the bed, patting the spot beside her and waiting for him to sit down before telling him the whole story. When she was done, she glanced over to see he looked slightly shock.
"How could no one have figured it out?"
She shrugged. "I'm good at hiding it. Katherine says my control is amazing, she hasn't seen this type of control on a newbie before and we chalked it up to my overly controlling personality before I was turned."
"Well this is- this is great."
Kenzie looked at him, taken aback. "How do you figure that? I didn't want to become a vampire."
"But you have and you've done the best you could. I don't know if you've realized this Mackenzie but I have taken a liking to you. I try very hard not to meddle with mortals as their lives are so very short."
Her eyebrows shot up. "So it's good I'm a vampire so you can hit on me now?"
"Well I wouldn't put it so crassly."
"Are you going to rat me out?" She asked. "Klaus might kill me and Rebekah is going to be so pissed, she's been begging me to be a vampire since the second day I've known her."
"I will keep your secret on one condition."
"Always that." She sighed. "What is it?"
"A date."
"Isn't that what this is?"
"A real date, without everyone around. Agreed?"
Kenzie smiled. "You know you just had to ask."
"Then it's settled." He said with a smile, one hand coming up to cup her cheek.
"What do Vampires do on dates anyways?" She asked.
"I guess you will have to wait and see."
She stared into his eyes, her smile fading as she leaned in closer to him. He looked ready to kiss her when he stopped and pulled away.
"Perhaps we should go back to the party." He suggested. "My Mother has a speech prepared." He stood, offering her his hand which she took with a small sigh. He pulled out a handkerchief and wiped as much blood off of her as he could.
They returned to the party and when he spotted Elena, he walked them over to her.
"So how was my Mother?" he asked.
"Intense." The doppelganger replied.
"And for what reason did she need to speak with you?" He stopped a waiter, handing champagne to both Kenzie and Elena before taking a glass for himself. The brunette was staring at the stairs where Esther was smiling at her.
"Elena?" Elijah asked, calling her back to them. "Should I be concerned about my Mother's intentions."
Elena opened her mouth to answer before looking at Kenzie. "Do you really want to talk about this?"
The redhead lifted an eyebrow, feeling slightly offended.
"Mackenzie is fine, answer the question."
"She just wanted to apologize for trying to have me killed."
"So it's true then? She's forgiven Klaus?"
Elena tried to smile but it was strained. "It's true."
The sound of a clinking glass pulled the brunette's attention towards the stairs where Esther started her speech. Elijah leaned close to Kenzie.
"Did you notice what I did?"
"The increased heartbeat, the hesitation, the way she couldn't hold your gaze?" Kenzie answered, receiving a surprised look in return.
"You are very observant."
"It's a talent." She said with a smirk just as Esther raised her glass and called out cheers. Elijah clinked his glass with hers before they both took a sip and he took the glass from her, leading her out to the dance floor again.
"Your talents, could be very useful." He whispered to her.
She giggled. "Oh, if only you knew the half of my talents but you could if you play your cards just right."
They continued dancing and talking both oblivious to everything around them when Caroline came up and tapped her on the shoulder.
"Kenzie, have you seen Matt?"
"Have you looked for Rebekah?" She asked, as the three moved into the foyer.
"Ugh." Caroline replied. "I've tried not to. Damon went to go look for him."
"Oh hell." Stefan muttered, running for the front door and yelling out his brothers name. Kenzie ran out after him, members of the Original Family not far behind, to see Damon on top of Kol, having just broke his neck.
"Are you crazy?" Stefan asked him as Damon stood up and looked around at the people gathered.
"Maybe a little. But far be it for me to cause a problem."
"What's going on here?" Kenzie asked, stepping forward.
"What do you care?" Damon sneered at her before turning and walking away.
Kenzie sighed and looked at Stefan before turning to Elijah, who had stepped forward.
"I apologize Mackenzie but I must cut this evening short, it looks like I have family matters to attend to. I will have the limo take you home." He pulled her into a hug, placing a kiss on her cheek. "I will call soon." He went back inside and Kenzie looked for the limo, finally spotting it a few rows down.
"Did you want a ride?" She asked Elena and Stefan, more out of politeness then anything else.
"No, Ill get a ride with Stefan." Elena told her, glancing at the other Salvatore. "We'll see you later Kenzie."
She shrugged, getting into the limo. She had enough for the night.
