Ok, I'm going to say this real quick. I realized this story wont have much going for it if the main character plays danger tea party with the other four until octopus face shows up. Im aware that the lord of the underworld doesn't usually act like this from how he's been set up, but I decided to rip a hole in the plot to fit in some more characters to improve the longevity of this story, and add more character growth to the main character, while also adding the possibility for some of the smaller parts of Terraria to get featured. Go into this chapter knowing this info, Celestia and Eladon will still be a conflict until the inevitable final battle, Andrew and Herald will still try to make the Main Character grow through forced methods, I'm just adding in a second side to this world, a more grounded taste.
Jack jumps backward, fighting to keep his balance.
A rather bright sun pans by overhead, the golden rays of the morning have shifted to a much paler light. His feet scrape over the thick layer of grass he stand on, the socks he was wearing are tattered and torn, if he was wearing shoes before he woke up, they are long gone now. A green blob of living slime hops forward in advance, its mindless appearance following the scent Jack gives off. Andrew told him they are nothing more than a stomach that moves, digesting anything alive they can land on. The grass beneath its round form bubbles in its transparent body, before disintegrating into nothingness.
Jack keeps the sword he woke up with pointed at the slime, waiting for it to jump again. More just like it, varying in color, hop along around him, randomly picking up on the smell of human by chance. Andrew watches from afar, a bow and quiver strung up on his back. Jack steals a glance back at the lackluster guide, but keeping himself rooted, not wanting to attract any more slimes' attention.
"Hey, are you going to help me?"
Andrew looks longingly up at the sun above. His mouth moves, saying something about the night. Jack clicks his tongue , facing back to the slime. He still cant remember anything before waking up in the forest, he is just as confused as when he came to. Andrew claimed they are friends, and show some genuine concern for Jack's Amnesia, but has been putting Jack into one dangerous situation after another, never jumping in to help. Its been fine so far, his sword has cut through most things here with ease, and he was able to easily kick a slime, sending it flying a considerable distance. Any damage he's taken heals up at an alarming rate, so its not like he needs the help. But if this is the type of friendship He had with Andrew, he must be quite the pushover.
The green slime hops at Jack. He cuts off his thoughts, taking evasive action. The slimes body slamming attack misses his head, he swivels on his anchored foot, guiding his blade through the slime's body. It cuts through, dark streaks of purple light run through the slimes body, it shudders, before being enveloped in the glowing spiderweb of corrupting power. It explodes, sending green chunks in every direction. Another slime leaps in, followed by two more. Jack makes necessary movements, going over and under the incoming enemies, his blade always dragging behind him, finishing off each with a single strike. More leap in, smelling the scent of fresh death.
He stabs the final slime, a familiar web of light covers its body, before exploding. Andrew raises his eye brows in gratitude, before walking away. Jack drops the tension in his shoulders, twisting his sword around so he can wipe the accumulating slime off. He follows Andrew wanting to talk to him.
"Hey."
He grabs Andrew by the shoulder, but lets go immediately. A cold shiver runs through his arms, something about how Andrew felt didn't feel right. Andrew spins around, gritting his teeth in anger, drawing his bow. He stops, before relaxing.
"What is it Jack."
Jack takes a moment, clenching his hand.
"Why are we out here, why do you want me fighting everything, why the secrets, the false truths?"
Andrew studies Jack up and down.
"What secrets?"
"I-."
"Listen."
Andrew cuts Jack off.
"We were out here because you want me to train you, I went to take a leak, and found you unconscious on the floor."
Jack holds out his sword.
"And is this mine?"
Andrew looks down at it, frustration is showing on his otherwise emotionless expression.
"Your father gave you that, before he died."
"What about my mother?"
"You never talk about her, I met you by chance in the closest town, we've been friends ever since."
Jack only nods, but he can sense Andrew is lying.
Why even tell me your name if you didn't know I forgot everything yet?
Ever since he first woke up, just this morning, Jack's backstory has changed three separate times. From stranger, to soldiers, to friends. Andrew is definitely making it up on the fly, and he seems to think ill accept it without a second thought, as if I were just an obedient animal. I decide it, I point my blade at Andrew, getting into battle position.
"Your an enemy, aren't you Andrew?"
Andrew freezes, a purple blade point only a few inches from his neck. He tuns around, complete frustration etched into his face.
"You are a real pain, you know that?"
His arm explodes, a flood of flesh pours out. Jack's jaw drops in horror, the flesh grabs him by the face, before throwing him over Andrew's head. Jack is sent flying, he crashes into the trunk of a thick oak tree. The flesh pile grab hims again, slamming him back into the ground. He cough up blood, before being tossed one last time. He skids to a halt, the flesh pins him down a second later, he dropped his sword somewhere. Andrew walks over, his face turning a deep red.
"Humans aren't supposed to be this self aware, why are you any different?"
He leans over, only my head sticks out from the flesh pile keeping me stuck to the ground. Andrew observes me, his face full of multiple eyes.
"Why is that, maybe from your blessings?"
Jack tries to struggle free, staring down the face of eyes looking at him. He doesn't understand.
"Blessings?"
Andrew pushes harder, Jack pushes back, almost gaining an advantage. Andrew grabs Jack, slamming him back into the floor. Jack's head hits the ground first, his sense of taste goes numb, his vision flashes white.
"Or maybe because I plucked you out of your humans' previous world, before magic took over your frail bodies."
"What?" Jack's voice comes out struggled and null. Memories flood his mind. His life before the world was invaded, office job, cars, technology, cultures, people. The sudden rush makes him stare out blankly. His face grips with rage.
"You, your that wall, you killed me!"
Andrew's hundred eyes's pupils constrict in surprise.
"You aren't supposed to remember that, you're more powerful than I thought."
Jack grits his teeth, his true enemy, more than these weak slimes, his previous enemies in his past life. None compare to the monster standing above him. He doesn't know the fate of his people, but imagination is enough, it angers him beyond comparison. He pushes up, his eyes flare with rage.
"Ill kill you, Ill Kill You!"
Andrew looks over Jack face, hot steam making Jack gag.
"I guess we'll have to restart, again."
With Jack's eyes still wide with anger, he speaks in confusion.
"Restart?"
Andrew returns his focus on Jack.
"Since you wont remember this, ill let you in on a secret."
More of Andrew's true form leaks out, the sun begins to retreat behind the distant mountains, as if it wants to leave the sight of such a horrifying creature.
"I devoured millions of your people, our conquest was over in matter of days. But when i devoured you, something about you threw me off. I cant explain it, but I knew you were special."
Andrew lifts Jack into the air, who still struggles to free himself.
"I cant give up on you, I already gave you the gift of immortality. Which means if I kill you, as therapeutic as that sounds right now, your deity form soul will just take a new form somewhere else, with all of your memories still intact."
"I guess I can just wait for someone else deal with you, I need to prepare for Cthulhu anyway."
Andrew moves, his legs have been reduced to a moving pile, letting him glide along.
"Ill need to rough you up, sounds fun."
Jack isn't given a second to figure out whats about to happen, before he's sent crashing into the ground, his nose breaks. Andrew slams him down again and again, in quick succession of one another. He smacks Jack against rocks, trees, and boulders, giving him a beating that would kill anyone.
"Quite durable." He tosses Jack into he air, his muscles are too damaged to move. Some of the eyes on Andrew's stretched face emit glowing light, lasers flash out, piercing through Jack all over his body. Andrew finally grabs Jack by the leg, striking him on the ground with an intensity to send cracks through the soil. Jack swings limply in Andrew's grip, he drops the unconscious god on the broken ground.
"Well, I feel better."
Andrew retrieves Jack's sword, he drops it on Jack's back, sticking a red tentacle in Jack ear. He devours Jack's memories, its the second time he had to do this, This one is just too clever for his own good. Andrew turns to leave, pulling the flesh and teeth back into him. He walks away, before stopping in his tracks. He turns his head, watching night slowly creep into the sky.
"What am I thinking, you're a god, if you cant deal with zombies, thats your problem."
Andrew leaves a mangled Jack, deciding that fate will decide if Jack will find his way back to the other gods. The Wall of Flesh leaves the over world, ultimately deciding it was a stupid to create a new god. But he will stand beside his decision, he hasn't lost hope yet. But its best Jack doesn't wake to Andrew's face, in case Andrew's brainwash isn't working correctly. As the lord of the underworld retreats, someone comes across Jack, her voice gasps at the sight of the near dead man. She rushes to his aid, preparing to save a life.
