"How's the squad coming along?" Damon asked as she reached over to pick up her bag.
"I'm amazed you even remember I'm a cheerleader." Kenzie replied, before turning to yell out to the team to meet up the next day. The routine was near perfect and she knew they were going to take Regionals.
"I know you have Regionals coming up and I know you want to take this team to Nationals."
She cast him a sidelong glance as she began walking away from the practice field. "What do you want Damon?"
"Don't tell me you're still mad at me."
"It's fading." She admitted. "But how long until you fuck up again?"
"10 seconds." He replied. "I'm taking Elena to Whitmore College to teach her the catch, feed, compel, release method."
She stopped and turned to face him. "That was 5 seconds but I guess you get points for actually giving me the heads up."
"We're going tomorrow, come with us. You can help, and then you won't have anything to get mad about."
"I cant help because I'm not supposed to be a vampire, so it would look weird if I tried. Besides, I need to practice tomorrow, I can't take off and leave the squad, half those morons wouldn't know how to do a herkie without someone yelling at them."
"What the hell is a herkie?" He wondered.
She didn't answer him. "Stefan is okay with this?"
"Well, he kind of snorted and said if I could actually get you to agree to this, then he would be fine with it."
"Why is this so important to you? Why is it up to you to teach Elena how to be a vampire?"
"Who else is going to do it, you?" He asked in disbelief.
"Stefan?" She reminded him.
"You and I both know Stefan can't. Caroline is way too new still, so are you, actually. The Original's hate her and want her dead and letting Katherine teach you was bad enough. We're lucky she didn't fuck you up. So the logical choice, is me."
Kenzie let out a snort of disbelief, tossing her hair over her shoulder as she continued walking towards the parking lot, deciding that he was going to give her a ride home, whether he wanted to or not. "Because you're a role model when it comes to vampirism."
"Again, point out another choice."
Kenzie sighed as they reached his car and she got into the passenger seat, waiting for him to get in before she continued speaking. "Anyone would tell me I'm crazy if I tell you to go off somewhere with Elena."
"So come with us."
"You know I can't. I have to worry about Regionals."
""You can just go to any high school anytime you want and take over any squad. You're 19 for life."
"18." She reminded him. "I died when I was 18. Besides, this is my first time, I want to do it on my first try."
"Elena needs to learn."
"Fine. Then go. Take Bonnie if you must, so there's a buffer. I'm not trying to be a controlling girlfriend here but you still need to earn back my trust and if you take Bonnie, she'll stop Elena from throwing herself at you and I won't be forced to kill her."
"You seem a little gung ho on killing Elena lately." He pointed out.
She grinned. "You totally set me up to make a joke about her being a ho, you know that, right?"
Damon rolled his eyes at her and Kenzie turned to face him, turning serious.
"You want the truth. Most people change when they become vampires."
"Except you." He pointed out.
"Control freak." She reminded him. "But again, most people change and now that Elena is a vampire, I'm very wary of her around you. She was already pushing for something with you as a human but now, I can't help but notice the way she looks at you sometimes. I mean, sometimes she looks like she wants to kill you but other times she looks like she wants to devour you, in a sexy kind of way and I don't like it."
"I don't want Elena."
"Can you honestly tell me that after lusting after her for so long, you can keep ignoring her advances on you?"
"If it means losing you again? Yes."
She sent him a pleased smile. "I want to believe you but please remember that despite my being a control freak, I'm still kind of new to this whole thing myself and my emotions are still super heightened, even if I don't show it."
"You're the weirdest vampire ever." He muttered.
"I still think you're so intent on teaching Elena because you never got the chance to teach me. I mean, I learned from Katherine of all vampires."
"What I want to know is how she hadn't turned you into a complete sociopath."
"I think she kind of wants to know too. But quit changing the subject. Go to college with Elena. Do what you need to, as in teach her how to be a good little vampire and come back to me. You and I both know you belong to me."
He smirked at her, pulling up to his house. "And here I thought it would take years to make you see that."
"Lucky for you I'm not as stubborn as I'd have you believe and came to my senses. Also, not my house."
"Oh I just want to see Stefan's face when you tell him you're fine with it. Then we're going to my room to give me a proper goodbye."
"You're going for a day." She reminded him as she walked into the house.
"Yes, then we'll definitely need all evening and night for that goodbye."
"Goodbye?" Stefan asked as they walked into the living room. He gave Kenzie a questioning look. "You okayed it?"
"Thanks for making me sound like a controlling girlfriend by the way." She griped. "But yes, he invited me along, I have to deal with cheerleaders so declined and told him to go but he has to bring Bonnie. And can I remind you, you're the one who sent them on the last trip together?"
"Elena wasn't a vampire then."
"You're right, hence why I'm sending Bonnie. Now, apparently I have to send Damon off with a good goodbye. I say do that with Elena, it might help." Kenzie turned and grabbed Damon's hand, pulling him to his room. He could only grin at his brother as he followed after the redhead.
… … …
"Okay, here's the plan. Everyone meet at the school at 7 am. The bus will take us to Regionals, we will kick ass at Regionals and come home winners. We have a flawless routine and after that, we're going to State. Until we step on that stage, you will eat, breathe and live this routine and it. Will. Be. Perfect. Do I make myself clear?"
After a chorus of yeses, she dismissed the squad, calling Rebekah and Caroline over.
"I didn't realize you were such a slave driver." Rebekah observed.
"I didn't realize you were letting her back on the team." Caroline sneered, glaring at the other blonde.
Kenzie sighed, glaring at them both. "I get you guys hate each other and with good reason, well on Caroline's part anyways. But let me make one thing clear, I have the National title on my mind and I will do almost anything to get it, so if that means you two have to play nice, you are going to play nice and like it or I will find a way to stake you both. You guys are my secret weapons so don't fuck this up for me."
"I knew you took cheerleading seriously, but whoa, Kenzie."
The redhead shrugged "This is my last bit of normal, I don't plan on losing it. I'll see you tomorrow."
Both nodded and Caroline left, not looking happy. Rebekah hesitated.
"Kenzie, I'm going to the Grill if you wanted to come along. I'm meeting April there."
"How have I yet to meet this April girl everyone keeps talking about?" She muttered, before smiling at the blonde. "Thanks but I'm got to finish off some homework and make sure everything is set for Regionals."
Rebekah nodded in understanding. "Well, if you change your mind, come meet us. I'll see you later Kenzie.
She left, leaving Kenzie alone on the practice field. At least she thought she was alone, until she felt another presence nearby.
"I swear the town's going to start talking with a different Salvatore picking me up each day."
Stefan grinned as he stepped into view. "That would mean they would have to be the least bit observant. Have you heard from Damon yet?"
She let out a small giggle. "Every hour. And just so you know, I never told him to text me every hour. But I have a feeling that if you came here to see me, you need something. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine. Liz called Damon, they never found the remains of the Hunter."
"He told me about the bomb in the hospital. How could he have survived it?"
"Oh, if an Original saved him, perhaps?"
Kenzie sighed, throwing some stuff into her bag before picking it up and walking towards the parking lot. "Klaus. Why? And also, I still don't get how he used Tyler's body to save himself from going up in flames?"
"I'll explain the Tyler thing later. He told me there's Something about the Five. Which I know means nothing to you but Klaus knows about them. Only, he won't tell me anything unless I do something for him."
"Which is why you're here. What could I possibly do for Klaus. Dude hates me with a fiery passion."
"But Rebekah doesn't. Apparently they're on the outs and he wants me to help them reconcile before he tells me anything."
"And you're hoping Rebekah's soft spot for me will do the trick."
"Something like that." He replied with a smile.
"She's at the Grill. I know this because she invited me there with April. So I'll go with you because let's face it you need me and I kind of want to meet this April chick."
He laughed and drove them to the Grill. They entered the restaurant and made a beeline for Rebekah and April. Kenzie sat down beside the blonde while Stefan sat across from her.
"I seem to remember only inviting Kenzie." Rebekah said with a sniff of disdain.
"This is April?" Kenzie asked, staring across the table at the younger girl with dark wavy hair and gorgeous blue eyes. "Hi. I'm Kenzie, redhead extraordinaire. I've heard a lot about you and you are totally gorgeous."
"Thank you." April replied, a slight blush staining her cheeks. "I've seen you around school, I mean you're hard to miss, you have the most amazing hair. When I was younger, I wanted to be a redhead so bad. Once I tried dying my hair red but I looked awful."
"You are just the cutest." Kenzie gushed.
"Kenz?" Stefan interrupted.
"Oh right. Here on a mission."
"What kind of a mission?" Rebekah suspiciously asked.
Stefan ignored her, turning to the young teen beside her and compelling her to not remember anything of their conversation. When he was done, he turned to Rebekah.
"Klaus wants me to fake making peace with you so you'll talk about the Five."
Rebekah smirked at him. "Yeah, I bet. Don't help him, he'll just betray you, it's what he does."
Kenzie nodded. "She's not wrong."
"And I see you brought Kenzie to help with your little scheme. You lot seem to do that a lot."
"It's 'cause you love me." Kenzie said with a grin.
"You're right about your brother." Stefan continued. "Forget him, help me instead.
"Why? You hate me more than he does."
"Because I want to figure out what he's up to. Plus, I can give you the one thing that he won't."
"And what's that?" Rebekah asked.
"A clean slate."
She responded with raised eyebrows.
"I'm not saying that I'm willing to forgive you for what you did to Elena." Stefan continued. "but I'm willing to set it aside and start over."
"Why would you do that?"
"Because you're obviously not leaving town anytime soon and I'm just looking for a way we could all get along. Plus you can't be too happy wandering around school with no friends."
The Original Vampire glared at him. "What if I don't care what you or anyone else thinks?"
"Well, I know you care about what Matt thinks. So maybe I could talk to him about a clean slate too."
Kenzie who had been quiet throughout the whole exchange, looking down at the table, looked up to see April looking between them all in fascination and a part of her wondered if the girl was really compelled or not. She promised to look into it later and turned to look at Rebekah, her hands clasped in front of her on the table.
"Help Stefan and I'm willing to forgive and forget."
"Even for Elena?" Rebekah cautiously asked.
"I'm actually more mad about you sleeping with Damon. So yeah, even for that."
"We'll be friends again?" She whispered. "you'll stop hating me
Kenzie sucked in a deep breath of air. Holding it in her lungs momentarily before slowly releasing it. "Yes. We'll work on our friendship. I don't hate you Rebekah. I was mad at you, super pissed off but I'm willing to let it go if you'll help."
Relief flooded the blondes face. "I'll help you then. Let's go see my brother."
The three vampires stood up, Rebekah promising April to text her later and they left to Klaus' house.
… … …
"Welcome home sister, although I don't recall inviting her along." Klaus announced as they walked into the room.
"She was my stipulation for being here." Rebekah told him, stepping into the room and looking at the man he chained up. Kenzie stayed outside the room, not wanting to goad Klaus just then. "Is this a trick? How do you know he's one of the five? Where are his bloody tattoos?"
"Oh his tattoos aren't visible on this lot like they were on the last. Now let's eat." Klaus led them into the dining room and towards a small table.
Rebekah sat down across from her brother, leaving Kenzie and Stefan to sit in between them on opposite sides. The redhead wasn't thrilled with being so close to Klaus but tried to appear as though she wasn't bothered while they sat there, waiting to be served food by his compelled slaves.
"Thank you my lovely." Klaus thanked the girl as she walked away, plates of food in front of all of them. "I could kiss the council for burning up all the vervain in town, made my life so much easier." He looked across at his sister who was just staring at him. "Rebekah, love, eat your veggies."
"I'm not eating until you apologize." She snapped.
"For which indiscretion? There have been so many."
"You broke my neck." She reminded him.
"You threw away Elena's blood so I can't make anymore hybrids." He countered.
"'cause you took me for granted."
"That's what big brother's do, Sweetheart."
"Let me just name the million other people I'd rather be having dinner with." Stefan interrupted them, looking annoyed and tired.
Kenzie couldn't help but let out a small giggle, muffling it when Klaus turned to glare at her. He waited until the annoying redhead had calmed down before turning to his sister.
"Alright, fine." He threw his hands up, leaning back in his chair. "I'm sorry. I often forget how delicate you are. Forgive me?"
Rebekah looked at Kenzie, who only raised an eyebrow in return.
"I'll take it under consideration." The blonde finally conceded.
"Ok good." Stefan leaned forward on the table, looking at Klaus. "Now why don't you tell me about Rebekah's hunter."
"Right, Alexander. Nice chap, forgoing the obvious issues. He was looking for creatures of the night, which is why we felt so safe around him wearing our daylight rings." Klaus began. "He 'opened' our eyes to these creatures he hunted and in return, we dined him. We wanted to learn more about his crusade. He told us there were five of them, made by a witch for one cause, the destruction of all vampires. When I asked how he hoped to achieve that, he told us he had the ultimate weapon that no vampires could survive."
"That's what this is about?" Stefan asked. "A weapon."
"Not just any weapon." Rebekah informed him.
"Rebekah, love, don't get ahead of the story." Her brother interrupted her.
"How is a weapon the answer to all my prayers?" Stefan wondered.
The two Originals shared a look and Stefan sighed, glancing across at Kenzie who gave a small shrug, looking completely confused. She had no idea what Stefan was talking about, looing for an answer to his prayers. What [rayers?
"Ok, why don't we sip the theatrics and get right to the point?" He continued.
"Not quite yet." Klaus told him. "Because in order to find this weapon, we need to silve this puzzle, which seems to have disappeared."
"What puzzle?" Kenzie asked, only growing more confused.
Stefan looked at her, glancing at Rebekah before turning to Klaus, staring at him, until realization hit him. "The tattoo. What is it?"
"A map." Klaus replied.
"Tattoo?" Kenzie questioned. "What is this tattoo you guys keep speaking of?"
"That's how we knew who these hunters were." Rebekah explained. "The witch who made them, gave them tattoos. These tattoos were a map."
"Then how do you know this Connor dude has this tattoo that isn't visible?" She wondered. "And even if he does have it, none of us can see it, meaning, it's kind of useless."
"We can't." Klaus agreed, "but someone else can." He turned and motioned toward his human minion. "Why don't you go ahead and tell the hybrid to bring him in, Love." She disappeared and he turned back to the table. "You see the Hunter was so eager to get to the bottom of his tattoo's, he mentioned that there was only one other person that could see him."
A hybrid came in, pushing Jeremy in front of him and Kenzie stood up, calling his name. Stefan was out of his seat, using his supernatural speed to rush him but Klaus was faster, standing in front of Jeremy.
"I wouldn't. Lucky for us, young Jeremy here is a bit of an artist."
"I'm not helping you with anything." Jeremy told him with an angry glare.
Klaus looked at his hybrid, who grabbed the youngest Gilbert's hand and yanked off his ring, tossing it to Klaus, who held it up for all of them to see.
"Oh I'm afraid you are." He countered, a smirk filling his features.
"Do something." Kenzie hissed at Rebekah.
"What would you have me do?" the blonde hissed back. "You know my brother would kill us all without a second thought."
"Fine." Jeremy snapped. "I'll draw the tattoo."
"That's a good lad." Klaus nodded at his hybrid, who led Jeremy away and the Original motioned for Stefan to return to the table, following behind him.
"So tell me more about this Tattoo." Stefan said when they were all seated again.
Klaus smirked. "My sister's suitor was unwilling to tell us anything but Rebekah was more than… willing to investigate, isn't that right?"
Kenzie looked at her to see she looked distinctly uncomfortable.
"My sister's boyfriend threw a slumber party that night. He and his brother's put us all down in our sleep." Klaus continued. "Elijah, Kol, Finn, and me."
Kenzie, who hadn't taken her eyes off Rebekah, saw the Original looked completely devastated and she reached over, grasping her hand and giving it a small squeeze. Rebekah glanced over at her, a small grateful smile on her face.
"How was I supposed to know?" She argued.
"Cheers." Klaus toasted, lifting his glass. "To my sister's uncanny ability to choose men."
"You don't have to be such an asshole." Kenzie snapped, standing up for the blonde. "It was an honest mistake."
"Watch yourself Mackenzie." He warned her.
She opened her mouth to say more but a loo from Stefan shut her up and she chose to glare instead.
"I thought the daggers didn't work on you because of your werewolf side." Stefan wondered, trying to get them back on topic.
Klaus glanced up at all of them with a grin. "They don't." He confirmed. "I killed them all, ripped out their tongues for good measure. Our whole family was nearly wiped out because of Rebekah's stupidity. Because he promised her something and she believed him."
"What was it?" Kenzie asked the blonde.
"Go ahead Rebekah, tell them. Tell them what the Hunter told you the tattoo leads to. What is this great weapon that could bring about the end of the vampire species."
She glared at him and let out a big sigh before answering. "A cure. He said there was a cure."
Kenzie dropped her hand, sitting up straighter in her seat as she looked across the table at Stefan with wide eyes.
A cure? A chance to not be a vampire anymore?
Stefan looked away fromj her as he realized what this meant for Elena and himself and Kenzie sat there in shock. She never wanted this, she had liked being human and now there was a possibility she could be again.
But did she still want that?
Klaus stood up and went to go get a drink and Stefan angrily followed after him.
"There is no cure for vampirism."
"He's telling the truth, Stefan." Rebekah tiredly confirmed, following after them.
"Why wouldn't you have searched for it? Found it?"
"Because when the Hunter's drew their final breath that night, the marks disappeared from their bodies, the map was gone, the brotherhood of the five, extinct. For 900 years there was not another whisper of a Hunter until our friend in there showed up in town.
"Well, now we have the map, what do we do next?" Rebekah asked.
"We don't do anything. You can't be trusted, Little sister, you'll be blabbing this secret to the first boy who calls you pretty." He condescendingly told her with a laugh. "I mean, it's pathetic, isn't it, how she continues to hand her heart to any man who shows her a hint of affection. You think she would've learned by now by the endless cycle of disappointment and deception."
"But I haven't." Rebekah yelled, interrupting his tirade. "Instead, I stay with you and let you leech every moment of happiness from my life. You know, at least I fared better than Finn. Klaus left him daggered 'cause he was tired of his judgement."
"No, Finn was a dullard." Klaus argued, moving towards her. "He was more interesting lying in a box."
Kenzie finally shook herself from her stupor, the fight between the siblings finally breaking through her thoughts as she looked between them.
"You want the cure for Elena." Rebekah finally realized. "So you can go back to mass producing your hybrids. That's why you brought Stefan in, because you knew he'd help you, even though he hates your guts. You know what, you can shove you cure." She turned on her heel and stomped out of the room.
Klaus turned back to Stefan a smirk on his face and Kenzie pushed back from the table, her chair scraping on the floor and bringing attention to herself.
"You have got to be the biggest idiot on this planet." She hissed, walking towards him with a sneer on her face.
"My sister is no longer here to protect you, you would do well to remember that, Mackenzie."
"You know if you do anything to her, you would never get my help, no matter how much I want to help Elena." Stefan warned him.
Klaus sent him a glare before turning back to the redhead. "Fine. Tell me Mackenzie, why I am I the biggest idiot on this planet? Enlighten me."
"You're whole, stupid, fucked up life, people and vampires have come and gone but your sister has stayed by your side through everything you have done. She has loved you through all your fucked up choices and when she thought you were dead because your body was burnt to a crisp, she got revenge for you and still you treat her like dirt, for what? A mistake she made hundreds and hundreds of years ago? A mistake that you have punished her for every single day of her existence? You know what Klaus? You don't deserve her as your sister and I hope to god she realizes that very soon."
"Haven't you heard, Love? God doesn't care about us, we're vampires." He snidely replied.
"Get bent." She snapped, her eyes flashing with fury "And she's right, you can take your plan and your cure and shove it."
She stormed out of there, intent on finding Rebekah. She didn't have to go far, the blonde was near the front door, having listened to the whole conversation. She didn't say anything, motioning the other girl to follow her outside. They were far from the house when Rebekah spoke.
"You stood up for me to Niklaus."
Kenzie sighed. "Your brother is a dick and you can do better."
"I have been by his side our whole existence." Rebekah cried.
"And he's destroyed you. All this time, I thought all this fucked up stuff you've done is because you're a sociopath. But you are like this because of what your brother has done to you. You need to get away from his poison. Do you want to go get a drink?"
Rebekah nodded and the two girls walked back to The Grill.
… … …
"Do you think Stefan will be mad?" Rebekah asked as they walked toward the Salvatore house.
"I'll punch him if he is." Kenzie replied with a grin.
The two girls had more than a couple drinks each and were about to take shots when Stefan had messaged them both and asked to talk to them. Kenzie had replied that they would be by shortly and they had left to go meet him.
"I like that you think you're so scary." Rebekah returned her grin.
"I'm so scary." She adamantly replied as they reached the front door and she opened it, motioning Rebekah inside. "The cheerleaders are terrified of me."
"I'll give you that, they're beyond terrified of you."
"Someone has to be. Stefan we're here." She yelled out as they walked into the living room.
"Look." Rebekah began. "I know you wanted my help. He just makes me so angry."
"No one deserves to be treated that way."
Rebekah looked down with a sigh before walking further into the room. "I wanted it back then, the cure. I was willing to leave my family behind for it."
Kenzie entered the room behind her taking a seat on a chair nearby. The whole time they had been drinking, she hadn't pushed Rebekah for more information on this cure, understanding that Rebekah wanted to forget about it at that moment.
"Would you take it if you had the chance?" Rebekah asked Stefan. "Or is it just for Elena?"
"A part of me wished that she and I could have an eternity together." Stefan admitted. "But Damon's right. There's not a single vampire that hasn't killed a human. Elena will kill. And then there will be the pain, the guilt, and then…"
"The humanity switch." Rebekah finished for him.
"Elena, she's driven by, love, by compassion. If she turns off her humanity I don't think we'll ever get her back. So I'd do anything to save her."
"I envy that." She told him. Tears springing to her eyes. "You and Elena, I envy the love you have. I really did believe Alex when he said he loved me. He promised we'd be married. We even picked out a church. San Vittore in Brienno.
"Rebekah, you don't have to tell us if it's too painful." Kenzie softly told her.
The blonde wiped at her eyes and shook her head. "I know you wanted my help but I just can't do anything that lets my brother gets what he wants."
Stefan nodded in understanding and Rebekah turned to leave, Kenzie standing to follow after her.
"I never did answer your question." Stefan called out, halting them. "If it meant that I got to be with her, have children, grow old with her. If it meant that we'd die together, be buried together, then yes, I'd take the cure.
Rebekah smiled with a small nod. "I buried him, even after everything, I laid him to rest in the place we were to be married. What kind of hopeless fool does that?"
"One that loved and thought she was loved back." Kenzie quietly replied.
Rebekah turned and gave her a small smile before she realized what she had said and her head whipped back to look at Stefan. "But that's what you wanted to know, isn't it?"
"What?" Kenzie asked.
"Because I buried him with his sword."
Kenzie stepped closer to Stefan. "Were you trying o get information out of her?" She asked in disbelief.
Footsteps were heard behind them and both Kenzie and Rebekah turned around to see Klaus stepping into view, his hands behind his back.
"I'm sorry little sister, but you're right, you really are a hopeless fool." He pulled his hands out holding the dagger and the white oak ash.
"Go." Kenzie whispered to her blonde friend.
Not needing more encouragement, she took off at vampire speed, only to be stopped by Stefan who had moved to stop her.
"I'm sorry, Rebekah." He whispered.
"Stefan." Kenzie cried. "Don't do this, please."
"I don't have a choice, Kenz."
Rebekah turned around, sending Kenzie a sad smile, glad they were at least friends again. Tears were in her eyes as she turned to her brother. "Go right ahead, laugh at the girl who loved too easily. I would rather have lived my life then yours, Nik. No one will ever sit around a table telling stories about a man who couldn't love."
Klaus looked away, almost looking like he felt bad for what he had to do.
"Do it." She challenged him. "Look me in the eye and do it, coward."
"No." Kenzie cried, rushing forward to stop them. "Don't. Please don't."
She was stopped by Stefan who grabbed her and pulled her back against him but she could see Klaus now, a tear rolling down his cheek as Rebekah yelled at him to do it.
He obliged, sending the dagger through her.
"No." Kenzie screamed as her friend sank against him. She began struggling, screaming and yelling at Klaus, calling him every name she could think of.
"You know the deal." Klaus reminded Stefan as he held his sister. "I dealt with Rebekah, you deal with her. They mustn't remember anything."
Kenzie went still in Stefan's arms.
"What is he talking about?" she whispered.
"Are you wearing your ring, Kenz?" Stefan asked instead, ignoring her question. He squeezed her shoulder in a reassuring manner, trying to convey that everything would be okay.
"Don't do this, Stefan." She begged.
"I'm sorry." He whispered.
She closed her eyes, feeling beyond betrayed as Stefan grabbed her neck and broke it.
… … …
When she woke up, she rubbed her neck as she sat up and looked around as everything came back to her. Her eyes landed on Stefan and she double checked that they were alone as she rushed him at vampire speed, punching him with all her strength.
"How fucking dare you." She screamed.
He didn't fight back as she kicked him in the stomach.
"You made a deal with Klaus, the devil." She screeched. "You betrayed me. You fucking killed me."
"I didn't have a choice." He gasped, doubled over. "I was trying to protect you."
"You have one minute to start talking."
"Klaus threatened to kill you for real." He began as he straightened up.
"I wouldn't stay dead." She reminded him.
"But then he would find out and stake you." He countered. "He went to go get the sword but made me promise not to tell anyone about the cure. He said no one could know, and that included you. I was supposed to kill you, take your ring and compel both you and Jeremy to forget what happened today. I, obviously can't compel you but I had to play along. Now you need to play along and act as if you know nothing and tell no one what happened today."
"Damon?"
"Can't know. Not yet."
She glared at him. "You want me to keep this from him."
"You have to Kenzie and I know you can."
"You let him dagger Rebekah."
"I had to go along with his plan."
"Why?" She yelled. "For some stupid cure that may or may not exist?"
"Don't you want it to? Don't you want a chance at being human again?" He argued.
"Not if everyone is going to keep breaking my neck. How can you ask me to go along with this?"
"Because if you don't, Klaus will kill you and anyone else that you tell."
Kenzie turned away from him, crossing her arms over her chest. "Get out." She told him, her voice low and full of barely controlled rage.
"Kenz-" He began, only to be cut off by her.
"I said get out." She snapped. "Get the fuck out of my house, Stefan, I don 't even want to look at you right now."
She heard him walking away , his footsteps stopping at the door.
"You're not going to say anything, right?"
Kenzie let out a scream of frustration, pickng up a lamp from her desk and turning, chucking it at Stefan's head. He ducked out of the way, using his vampire speed to leave her house before she tried to hit him again.
She began pacing her room, angry that she had been left out of the loop, that Stefan had done what he'd done and now he expected her to keep it quiet. Granted, if someone was good at keeping secrets, she was it but she didn't want to keep this secret. She wanted to tell Damon, she wanted to see if it was real and she wanted to decide if she actually wanted said cure, if it actually existed.
And to make it all worse, Klaus had taken away one of her secret weapons. She was supposed to win Regionals with Rebekah's tumbling skills. Sometimes she wanted to stab him, repeatedly.
Her phone beeped and she ignored it as she continued pacing until it beeped again and she picked it up, seeing Damon was messaging her. He had just arrived back in town and wanted to see her. They had a rough night and he was annoyed and needed her but Kenzie didn't know if she could keep it together around him at that moment. Not when she was feeling like this, he would know in a heartbeat that something was off about her and she didn't think she could not tell him.
She turned off her phone and fell back on her bed, wondering what the hell she was supposed to do now.
