—in the city, All might's perspective—
"It's all right now, young lady," the hero said after sending the lid of the sewer flying, he got out and turned to face the villain. "I am her—?" All might froze from the scene that created him.
The villain was...unconscious. And the young lady was unhurt. And it seemed that she defeated the villain before him.
…
What the hell?
Toshinari had been chasing after this villain the entire day, and it wasn't easy getting hold of him. The villain's body was made out of liquid, so physical attacks were difficult against him. How is it that the number 1 hero was beaten by a mere girl he was about to save?
The girl stared at him with wide eyes for sometime, speechless as her thoughts were still processing...then—
"A-A-A-ALL MIGHT!" She jumped, and her face told him that she was really trying her best not to squeal. "Ohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygodohmygod!"
Oh...right...this was expected.
Toshinori didn't notice at first, but taking a closer look at what her hand held was ...was that a gun?
Why was a middle school girl carrying a gun around? She wasn't a villain, was she?
"The number one hero...All Might…. H-He's the real thing…. He looks completely different in person!" He heard her squeal to herself. "Oh, right! An a-autograph!" She quickly picked a briefcase that was lying on the ground (why was she carrying an important looking briefcase? Did she steal it?), and rummaged through papers before pulling out a worn out looking book. She flipped through the pages and handed a pen to him. "Sign, please!"
"...huh," Toshinori mused to himself and signed it.
The green haired girl's eyes glowed like stars as he returned it, and she started bowing profusely at him. "Th-Thank you very much! It'll be an heirloom! A family treasure!"
"Hahaha, that's good to hear, young lady...And if you don't mind me asking...why do you have a gun?"
"Ah…" she looked at it sheepishly. "Umm...well, when the villain attacked me, I shot him immediately." He stared at her. "D-d-don't worry, this is a stun gun! It doesn't have actual bullets that can kill someone. My uncle still thinks I'm still too young to fire an actual gun, much less carry them, unless the situation calls for it. The pellets shot in these actually shocks the victims, and paralyses them for some time. But since this villain's body is utterly in a liquid state, I think he had the worst of it."
"...huh…" was his reply, before getting to work. The young girl's jaw dropped when he somehow got hold of the villain's body and shoved it all in an empty bottle in a heartbeat.
"Okay! Well, I need to take this guy to the police. See you again on the other side of the screen!" He turned to leave.
"Wait, already?"
"Pros are constantly fighting enemies and time." He replied. Shit, he was near his limit. He needed to run. Now.
"But there are still...things I want to ask—" she stopped midway, frowned a little and shook her head quickly. She cleared her throat, and straightened her back. She looked at him as her smile melted away and her eyes no longer looking bright with excitement . "I apologize for my demeanor a second ago, All Might."
What?
"I'm grateful that you came to my heed, believing my life would be at risk. Rest assured, I am unharmed, and took care of the villain. I have been trained for such scenarios."
What the hell?
"Now that the villain's physique is inside a suitable small vessel for me to carry, I would like you to hand him to me." She reached out her hand.
...
What the hell was going on!? Just a moment ago, she was just fangirling like any middle schooler. Now it felt like he was talking to an adult in a child's body from law enforcement. "Why?" Was the question his head could think of.
She blinked, tilting her head in confusion before she mouthed 'oh'. "My apologies," she said, lowering her hand and digging into her pockets. "I haven't introduced myself earlier, haven't I?" He gaped and his mind went blank as she flashed her badge at him. "I can't give my real name since I'm still 14, so I go by "Angel". I work for the force."
"You're...a policewoman?" He asked, baffled.
"Homicide detective to be precise." She put her badge aside. "But I have enough authority to apprehend criminals— villains," she gestured at the unconscious man in the bottle, "if they pose a threat to civilians."
He still gaped at her incredulously. The world has gone mad. "A 14 year old middle school girl working as a cop who investigates the death of dead people?" He blurted out. She narrowed her eyes at him. Oops, he didn't mean to offend her.
The girl—"Angel", as she calls herself, let it slide and shrugged. "Don't worry, people, even other heroes, often have the same opinion hearing how insane this is. But it's the truth. Now," she reached out her hand again," would you please hand him to me?"
"I—" Toshinori suddenly coughed violently, wiping the blood from his mouth. Shit! Shit, shit, shit! He was seconds away from transforming back.
"All Might? Are you alright?" She asked, tilting her head.
"Apologies your—I mean, I'm sorry young one," great, he was somehow catching formal speech. "I must go now."
"But-"
"I'm going,"
"You-"
He took off immediately. He didn't hear any screaming, but in midair, he noticed long flowing green hair flying, and an extra weight on his left leg."Hey, hey, hey! What do you think you're doing? Let go. I love my fans, and I understand that you're a cop, but this is too much!"
The girl held to his leg tight, and squeezed her eyes shut as she yelled," I'm sor—My apologies! But it's too late for that now. If I...let go now...I'll die!"
"That's true," he quietly, his blood was dripping from his mouth. Shit!
Once they reached the rooftop, Toshinori knew he reached the end. Soon smoke appeared from his body until—
"You're deflating…!" She pointed at him. She looked around, "Wait, until now.… Huh? Fake? A fake?!" She was utterly confused "You're so skinny!"
"I am all might," he finally confessed, then blood forced out from his mouth.
She yelped seeing the blood.
"Uwaah! Ambulance!" She fished out her phone. "I need to call the ambulance!"
"No! Wait, stop!" The hero panicked. "This often happens to me! If you call the ambulance, then the press would catch onto my identity!"
"...eh?" The girl lowered the phone from her ear. "But...it can't be you...All Might. All Might is fearless… He saves everyone with a smile...he's the greatest…" she trailed off, losing her formal speech, not knowing what to say anymore.
Speechless. well, Toshinori expected this. He sighed. "A fearless smile, huh?" He sat down, his back rested against the railing. "Now that you've seen me like this, young lady, make sure you don't tell anyone. Not even to your superiors at work, the government doesn't know about my current state." He showed his old wound and scars (the blood drained from her face as she saw it), and explained his situation. "So, now you know why I make it seem like I'm invincible against villains."
"Angel" stared, and nodded sadly. "Yes, I understand. I'll take this secret with me to the grave…" she hesitated for a few heartbeats and then opened her mouth. "All Might, I...apologize for inadvertently forcing you to share your secret with me. But...I feel...I need to ask you something. Personally from me…" she looked at him, her eyes glowing, but her lips wobbled. "Even if I don't have a Quirk, can I become a hero?"
Toshinori gasped as his eyes widened.
She was quirkless, too!? What are the odds?
"Can someone without a Quirk be like you?" She asked again, and took a step forward. "I know that it's amazing and insane that a quirkless middle schooler was a cop in the first place. But I've always felt that this job isn't enough for me. I'm tired of it, actually. Everytime I get a call, and confront a crime scene with a corpse displayed in front of me, I always find myself asking, "If I had been here earlier, could I have saved them?""
She took a breath. "Yes, I've solved cases, yes I've arrested countless murderers… but, even so, its a fact that the only reason a murder took in the first place was because no one saved the victims...so, please! Tell me! Can I be a hero who can save people like you?"
Toshinori looked at her in awe. This kid...she was on the right track, no doubt about that. It's amazing, really. And being able to apprehend the criminal/villain mind was a bonus experience if she fought against them...However…
The hero reluctantly opened his mouth and gave the harsh truth of reality…
—later, Izumi's perspective—
She knew. She'd always known the truth, but chose to be ignorant about it. Now, hearing the actual confirmation from the number 1 hero she admired in all her life…
Katsuki...everyone else...probably...no they were right about her all along. Grey never said anything against her dream, but he hadn't exactly been showing his complete support, either. He probably stayed quiet because he didn't want to hurt her feelings…
Well, there goes her dream...perhaps she should just continue her life as a homicide for the rest of her life.
She sniffed, and realized her tears were going to drop soon.
Don't cry! You knew, didn't you? The reality...that's why you were trying so desperately.
Her thoughts were disrupted by a sudden explosion nearby. This place was...where the explosion she saw earlier on the roof …?
Hang on, does that mean I came out of habit without noticing? Stop it! It'll just feel meaningless right now.
She gasped. The sludge villain she felt earlier was there in the shopping district. Why was he here? Did it get away from All Might? Did he drop it?
She suddenly recalled the scene when she clung onto his leg when he took off in the air… oh, god. Oh god...
The villain went loose because of her. Then…
"It's all my fault," she whispered to herself as she began to sweat and feel fear crawling around her.
"Why aren't the heroes doing anything?"
"They can't. Apparently the villain caught a junior highschooler. It's been like that for a while."
"Anyway, wasn't that villain the one All Might was chasing earlier?"
"Really? Then where is he?"
It's my fault. He can't do anything because he crossed his limit. He can't do anything! We have to wait for someone with a more suitable quirk to deal with that villain!
All because of me.
It's my fault!
She didn't realize it at first, but taking a closer look at the villain, the junior high schooler that was taken as hostage was—-
K...Kacchan?
He was suffering. He couldn't free himself...
Her mind went blank...
Ryuu is dead. Kacchan survived that night by a miracle…
But it seems fate wants to try again
Now wouldn't that be another death from your hands, hmm?
Izumi's breath hitched when the cold voice from her guilt whispered harshly. Slowly, She moved forward through the crowd.
She pulled out the small device from her pocket and planted it at the nape of her neck. Instantly, her long flowing hair went back to a green short bush.
She was no hero, she knew that. However, this scenario only began because of her carelessness. She had to take responsibility for her actions.
And it's not only a hero's duty to save people, that responsibility also lies in me as a cop!
She ran through the crowd, and lunged towards the villain. People behind her were screaming for her to come back, but it was too late for that now. The heroes tried, but due to the fire becoming stronger, they couldn't pursue.
When the villain noticed her, he began to attack. Quickly remembering what she wrote in her notes, she flung the briefcase with everything she had and aimed it at the villain's eye. The sludge monster screamed in pain and jerked back.
"Kacchan!" She screamed, trying desperately to find one of his body parts so she could yank him back to the open.
"Why are you here, Baka!" He coughed, getting some fresh air inside him. God, how long was he in that thing?
Because I don't want to lose you! I nearly lost you and mom once when I lost Ryuu that night! I don't want you to die because of my mistake!
"I can't!" She tried hard not to shed a tear right now as panic seemed to consume her more. She wasn't thinking straight as her throat ached, and felt sobs coming soon. "My legs moved on its own! I don't know why, though!" She couldn't really believe that she had the nerve to smile at him with all the pressure as she said, "you looked like you were asking help." She felt a small feeling of relief when she managed to find one of his wrists in all the sludge.
The villain looked at her in rage. "You! Your hair looks shorter for some reason, but you're definitely the same chick from before!" He raised his hand in the air. "You'll pay for what you—"
She growled and yelled, "I'm sorry, but this may sting you for a bit, Kacchan!" Yanking out her weapon from the belt of her black pants with her free hand, she shoved her arm deep in the villain's body and pressed the button.
"AHHHHHHHHHH!" The villain screamed in agony as Katsuki grunted in response. The villain loosened his grip on the boy as he stumbled backwards, and Izumi took her chance yanking the boy to her side.
Katsuki fell atop her and she yelped, being pushed to the ground. "Kacchan!" She said in relief! She got him out. She actually got him out!
"Deku…" she heard him grunt out. "Baka...why?" He was weak. Whatever the sludge villain did to him made him drain his physical strength.
"What the hell? The boy just rescued him before the heroes could!"
"That's amazing! Did he use a quirk that disadvantaged the villain?"
"Wait—hold on. He used a weapon. And...HOLY SHIT! ISN'T THAT A TASER?!"
Indeed it was since her gun was in her briefcase. She sat up and quickly put one of Katsuki's arms around her neck before she stood. They needed to escape now. "What are you waiting for!?" The heroes behind her froze by her sudden scream. "The hostage is safe! Take the villain down now, heroes!"
"You!" She whipped her head back at the villain, who looked furious enough to murder her. "First a gun, now a taser. I should've looked for you first before waiting for god damn All Might to come find me!"
"It's not my fault that your body is in a liquid state! Bitch!" She growled aggressively. Having her former best friend back safe turned her from a scared, desperate broken girl, into a wild raging feral animal.
He was going to attack now. She just knew it. "Kacchan?" The blonde boy looked a bit dazed to respond. That's great, hopefully he wouldn't remember what she was going to do next.
When the villain attacked her, she carried Katsuki bridal style and jumped high, evading all the attacks with graceful agility. She could keep dodging, but she wouldn't be able to reach the other side ontime with katsuki in her arms. What should she do? What could she do now?
"DETROIT—"
HUH?
"—SMASH!"
All Might, out of nowhere, appeared and punched the villain with his right hand. The force was so strong that the villain's body scattered all around. The gust of wind that blew from his power made her drop to the floor with Katsuki.
…
Once that was all cleared, the muscled hero got up, wiping the blood from his mouth…
Blood...
"I'm Pathetic…" he said to her, "Even though I admonished you. I wasn't putting what I said into practice." He turned to look at her. "I'm sorry."
She bit her lip. "All Might," He was over his limit, yet...he forced himself to take that form because of her. God, was she making anything better?
"Oi! You!" Now the heroes were running towards them. "Have you got a deathwish?" Death arms said in a panicked way. You may have saved your friend, and I'll admit, you may have outwitted that villain. But next time don't act so rash!"
"Sorry about that, heroes," Izumi stiffened from the sound of the voice, and she reluctantly turned behind her.
Grey stood there smiling but with a livid dark and red aura radiating from him.
"Wha? How did you get past the police? I'm going to ask you to lea—" Grey quickly flashed his badge at him. "Sorry to disappoint, but I am the police. Detective Grey Nakamura, at your service."
Kamui wood gasped. "You look like you're 14!"
Izumi felt Katsuki regain consciousness as he moved a bit.
"Kacchan!" She helped him sit up. "Are you okay?"
"Deku," he groaned. "Didn't...need…"
"I am 14," Grey replied as calmly as he could. "But I'm also a cop. It is the truth. Now, sorry about this, gents, but I'm going to have to take my partner with me." He looked at her with his sharp eyes. And she gulped. "Kitty, you told me to go ahead and wait for you in the hospital, and left me hanging for over an hour. The next thing I know, the tv broadcasted you saving this porcupine haired bastard from a villain with, what I could tell, a half baked plan. Also—"he showed her a briefcase which threw at the villain earlier. The cover looked slightly burned. "I don't think the captain would be happy to hear that you threw significant case files at a criminal. Are you trying to get yourself fired? If not killed?"
Crap, Grey may be a pain in the ass sometimes, but in situations like these, she really couldn't argue back at him. He cared deeply for her after all.
The dark blue haired boy sighed heavy. "Come one, let's get out of here." She yelped when he pushed katsuki off her and scooped her in his arms.
"What the hell you bastar—"Katsuki's eyes widened seeing her being carried in that position. "...Deku, who is this shitty friend of yours?"
"Uh...well...he's,"
Grey smileed mischievous. Uh oh , she didn't like that smirk. "Doesn't really matter to you, but if you insist…" Grey, in front of everyone, kissed her on her cheek. "I'm Izu's boyfriend~"
"What?" The blonde's jaw dropped.
"GREY!" She went deep red as she hid her face with her hands. "He's not! I swear he's not!"
"But we are pretty close, that's a fact. Especially since we liv—"
"STOP!"
God this was the worst! Grey's way of punishing her and pressing Katsuki's buttons, was to humiliate her and spill out some truths. She knew he always wanted to gloat and hurt Katsuki as he didn't like the way she was treated by him.
"Well, anyway," The tanned boy snapped his fingers, activating his quirk, "see you around, porcupine!"
And with that, they teleported in a flash of golden lights.
