—10 months later, U.A. entrance exam—
Izumi's breathing went uneasy as she stared nervously at the building. She was here. She was really here to her dream school, and was just going to start her first step to become a hero. She really wanted to squeal out her excitement, but had to refrain from that as she didn't want to humiliate herself in front of all these other candidates.
She was nervous. Izumi had just received All Might's power hours ago (popping his hair in her mouth, ugh!), but there wasn't enough time for her to test it out. What if she used it wrong, and all her limbs exploded off due to Hher mistake? She'd have to think carefully before doing anything rash.
Another reason why she was nervous was because of—
"Outta my way, Deku!"
She flinched and turned reluctantly to Katsuki behind her. "Ka...chan." She faltered.
—this guy. Ever since that incident, Katsuki didn't do anything to Izumi. When his bullying stopped, his other lackeys did the same, though they were confused about it.
"Don't Stand in front of me. I'll kill you," he scowled.
"M-morning. L-let's both do our best…" she stuttered, waving her hands frantically. But the ash haired blonde ignored her and went ahead. The green haired girl sighed in relief.
I was just scared of him out of habit...I wonder why he stopped bothering me these past couple of months...He didn't start remembering did he...
She shook her head and cleared her mind from her thoughts related to him. Now was not the time. She was different from before, and now she could prove here.
With that in mind, she took a step and tripped. But was saved by a cute brown haired girl, and later discovered her name was Uraraka Ochaco.
—later—
Her luck was probably bad as she was sitting next to the guy she wanted to be so far away from. Bakugou Katsuki. He glared at her with his ruby eyes, and she did her best to not interact—heck, she was even holding her breath as she averted her eyes elsewhere.
She couldn't control her excitement when the voice hero, Present Mic, was in front of them as an examiner. She probably ended up mumbling to herself, but was loud enough for Katsuki to say, "shut up". Katsuki growled when he realized that Izumi would be placed in a different location from him. Izumi on the other hand, nearly started to believe in god as she dodged a bullet. Now with this, Katsuki wouldn't kill her, better yet, witness her newly obtained power as it would be too much of a pain to explain before, or maybe after, he beat her to shit.
Someone from the crowd, a tall guy with blue hair and glasses stood and said something about a misprint, then—"In addition, you over there with the curly hair…" he pointed at her directly, "You've been muttering to yourself this whole time. It's distracting! If you're here on a pleasure trip, then you should leave immediately!"
Izumi clapped her hands over her mouth immediately. "I'm sorry," she said embarrassed with herself. Her old habits were really going to make her a fool out of everyone.
Katsuki looked at her for sometime, narrowing his eyes at her odd behavior, then looked away. "
—later—
Izumi felt like god didn't exist anymore, or that the divine being hated her as she was in the same group as the glasses boy who'd reprimanded her earlier. That wasn't just the end of it. The robots mentioned earlier that were used for the exam? They were all freakin HUGE! Perhaps not as big as Mt. Lady, but still! Not even the criminals she apprehended during work were this big. And the worst of all was she was lagging behind!
But despite her crisis, she wasn't making things better for herself. Whenever she saw one of the candidates in danger, her legs moved on its own, and she saved them from getting crushed. They thanked her profusely before resuming their activity, but that didn't change the fact that each person she saved ate away her time.
She couldn't help it though! This ended up becoming her natural instinct because of police training. Heck, saving any civilians in danger was police protocol. It was duty before anything else. And now she was slowly regretting becoming too strict with herself with the rules. Because in situations like these, her dream of becoming a hero was blowing up to dust.
God, if she had brought her guns, or any weapons that were hidden under her bed then—No. She hadn't registered her weapons to the school earlier, so there were no use even if she brought them.
God what was she going to do? The brown haired girl who saved her earlier was ahead of her with over 23 points now!
Izumi's eyes snapped up when she realized there was a big shadow looming over her. Shit, this time there was a robot as tall as Mt. Lady. And this time everyone was fleeing. Her legs wouldn't move for some reason at the threat in front of her.
Shit. Shit.
Izumi's head whipped her to the direction of a girl's cry. The brown haired female had one of her legs trapped underneath all the chunks of broken building pieces that were destroyed by the robots.
...No...no, no, no! She'll get crushed if Izumi doesn't take any actions fast! She wouldn't be able to outrun the bot if she'd somehow saved that girl. Which means… She only had one option.
Izumi took a breath, mustering all her courage and forced her trembling legs to run forward. She activated One for all and jumped with massive force. She balled her right hand to a fist, giving it her all. "SMASH!" She yelled as she hit the metal surface hard.
The bot took an enormous amount of damage, exploding everywhere as it stumbled backwards and then fell, shaking the ground tremendously. It was done. She took it down.
"Only 1 minute left!" She heard Present Mic say aloud, and that snapped her mind back to her current situation. Her entire right arm was purple and red, and the impact of the pain within her legs and right hand was far worse than she anticipated. She couldn't move them at all. Did she break the bones within? Was All Might's power that insane?! Also—
She was in the sky, and was falling now.
Crap. Her uninjured hand reached to the side of her hip. At least she had her grappl—
Ah. Her weapons...she didn't have them, including grappling hooks.
Shit.
Shit! She was going to die at this height! Her left arm was the only thing uninjured. If she used her quirk on it, she'd have to forfeit. But if she doesn't, she'd die.
…
Die
...
I can't die. Not yet. Not yet. I still have to catch Ryuu's killer! That monster broke my mother, and made Kacchan forget me!
I can't die. I can't die! I can't die!
I won't die!
Right when she was about to raise her left arm, a hard slap on her cheek threw her off. She was vaguely aware of what happened next as she didn't feel the surface of the ground. No...she was floating...Ah, that meant one thing,
I'm already dead—
" Release," she heard someone say before her body hit the ground.
Just now, her face hit something and it hurt...oh, so she wasn't dead? Thank god. Seemed like the browned haired girl from before saved her yet again. But her composure didn't look so good. Was it...overuse of her quirk?
She heard the siren ring.
"Time up!"
Her eyes widened.
The exam was over…
...
A lifeless sort of laugh escaped her lips. "I messed up once again, haven't I? Ryuu? Even though you always supported me with mom, uncle, Grey...everyone… I'm sorry for letting you all down…" She was tired. So tired. Everything felt like an emotional rollercoaster ride since this morning. She didn't understand. Was she actually nervous about this exam? The use of her quirk? Or was she afraid that "if" she'd passed somehow, how would...Katsuki...react to the truth? How would...he...take it…
She closed her eyes as the tears flowed out, then everything went black. ..
—somewhere else, Toshinori's perspective—
"That was quite something," Nezu said, clapping with glee from the spectacular performance Midoriya Izumi displayed. "I always knew she was an interesting applicant due to her background, but this is the most heroic performance I've ever seen so far." He looked at the teachers surrounding him. "I suppose we all don't have any objections?" No one raised their hands. "Wonderful. She'd be transferred to Class 1-A next week. Now , about the next—"
"IZUMI!" All of them looked at the screen one more time. Toshinori choked on his own blood when he saw god freakin Grey appear out of nowhere, running to the unconscious girl's side. He cradled her in his arms and tried to shake her awake. He knew the tanned boy would be watching from somewhere using his teleporting quirk, but for the boy to enter here openly was another problem.
"Hmm? This is—?" The principal asked.
"Wait, I don't think he's one of the applicants," Midnight sensei said, adjusting her glasses. It was obvious as he wasn't wearing a tracksuit , but rather, formal black clothes. "How did he get in here?"
Cementoss turned to go. "I'll go and call security—"
"Wait!" Toshinori waved his hands frantically. "I'm sorry, I know that boy. I apologize, on his behalf for entering in restricted area but-"
"Really?" Nazu said. He looked at the screen again and then spoke, "I'm surprised, Yagi-San. I didn't know you were acquainted with Nakamura Grey."
Toshinori stiffened as his eyes popped open. "How do you—"
"Nakamura Grey?" Ectoplasm contemplated before gasping. "You mean the boy who had brutally beaten his classmates when he was 9 using his mother's quirk? I thought he was in a mental institution now. Why is he here?"
Vlad King sensei growled. "That punk got some nerve coming to a place like this." Toshinori was still confused. He knew what Grey did was bad years ago, but he was just a child when he did it! Why were they all so worried and angry?
Vlad sensei seemed to have caught Toshinori's confused expression. "Oh, right, you weren't in this prefecture when the incident occurred. His father works for the police, you know that, right? But here's the thing. His mother was a villain called "the serial killer: Dawn."" His face went pale, and his body was still. "The poor guy didn't know he married a crazy woman, and only found out about her deeds after his son used his mother's side of the quirk on his classmates out of rage. The brat knew his mother was a villain as she was the one who taught him her tricks, but didn't say anything to his father. He was so dangerous that it took quite a while to apprehend him. If that punk thinks he can pull the same stunt here—"
"My, would you look at that," Nezu pointed at the screen again.
Grey took Izumi's uninjured hand and placed it on his choker. "Permission to use quirk?" He said aloud.
Scanning for fingerprint…
A robotic voice was heard from the choker.
Print detected: Officer Angel.
Scan complete.
Access: Granted.
"Fantastic," Grey muttered, and took her uninjured forearm to his face. He opened his mouth and bit hard enough for them to see blood.
"What the hell is he doing!?" Vlad sensei demanded, horrified by what he was witnessing. The other applicants that were circled around the two teens had the same expression as they gasped at the scene.
The moment Grey released and licked the blood from his mouth, he snapped his fingers and…what the hell? Young Midoriya's wounds were...healing?! Her legs were turning to the right position, as though the bones inside were getting fixed. The quirk that had turned her entire right arm swollen red and purple...god, the skin was returning to its natural color.
Izumi's eyes slowly fluttered open. "Grey?" She rasped. The tanned boy sighed in relief and hugged her tight.
"Oh my!" Midnight sensei exclaimed. "He healed her? And the way he's holding her is like," she couldn't contain her squel. "How romantic~"
Nezu still smiled. "Yagi-San, were you aware of who the young was before you were his acquaintance?" The animal man looked at him.
The number 1 hero shook his head. "He...only gave me his first name, and told me he works for the police as they were watching his every move. He lives in the same apartment as young Midoriya Izumi, and the two of them work together as Homicide detectives. After that, not much."
"Interesting! Very interesting...oh! That gives me an idea!" He happily skipped off out of the room.
"Did the principal just skip?" Midnight sensei asked.
"Why would he…" Vlad sensei paused to think, then widened his eyes. "No! No, no, no, no! Sir, don't you think about it!" He rushed off, coming after the principal's hide.
—a week later, night, Grey's perspective—
Izumi hadn't been in bright spirits since the exams. With 10 months over, she got back to work last week...but she was... off. No, she did everything smoothly and efficiently as always, just that the air around her was heavily depressing. Grey did try to cheer her up, but it wasn't good enough.
Currently he was washing the dishes. A while ago, Izumi received a letter from U.A and had been holed up in her room for over half an hour. He couldn't tell if it was good news or bad news as it was silent...maybe a little too silent for his liking. Maybe he should go and check—
"KYAAAAAAA!"
The sudden sharp scream across the hall made him jump, and almost drop a plate. He opened the cabinet above his head and pulled the gun out from where it rested. He snapped his fingers and teleported to Izumi's room. "Izumi!" He shouted, stumbling a bit. "Who—" he froze when she turned to him.
She was on the floor, covering her mouth, and tears—god, a lot of tears were flowing from her face.
He lowered the gun. Ugh...okay, he had to initiate 'Plan #32: Make Izumi happy' now. "I'm sorry if you—OMFF!" He was cut short when she suddenly threw her arms around his neck and hugged tight.
"I got in!" She squealed. "I DIDN'T MESS UP! I ACTUALLY GOT INTO U.A!"
Grey was speechless. She got in!? This reckless idiot actually got into U.A.? "How?"
"Rescue points!" She released her arms from his neck to wipe her tears. "Despite having zero villain points, I topped getting 95 rescue points!"
"95-holy shit! From the browned haired girl you saved?!"
"Saving her got me 60 points!" She replied brightly. "The other points were for saving other applicants!"
Grey frowned. "Uhh...I wonder if the examiners realized that you were saving them because you were following police protocol." She stiffened. "Don't try lying, Kitty. You had that glazed and cold look in your eyes like you do during work when you saved them. It wasn't the same as when you saved that girl, or that porcupined haired bastard out of desperation. Honesty, the line of doing something heroic and fulfilling the duty of a police officer seems to really blur here."
She lightly punched his arm lightly. "Don't ruin the mood! This means a lot for me! By the way, why did you bring a gun to my room?" She gestured to his hand.
"Wha—? You screamed! I thought some wacko broke into your room and attacked you!"
Izumi huffed as she rolled her green eyes. "Grey, you're the only 'wacko' who comes into my room without permission from time to time, trying to steal a kiss." He grinned at her response. God, he found her cute when she acted sassy.
" Where are you going?" He asked as she moved to the door.
"Hospital. I'm going to tell my mom!" She hurried off, closing te door.
Grey chuckled. He was glad she'd done it. He was happy that she was smiling again. Now things should go peacefully—
RIIIIIIIINNNNNGG!
oh, What now?! He groaned as he fished his phone out. It was an unknown number. "Hello?" He answered, unamused by the timing.
"Hello," said a stranger's voice, " is this Nakamura Grey I'm speaking to?"
The tanned teen went rigid. "Who is this?" He demanded.
