—April, Katsuki's perspective—
"Don't put your feet on the desk!" The glasses boy reprimanded.
"Ahhh?" Katsuki sneered, tilting his head. Who was this 4 eyed extra?
"Don't you think that's rude to the U.A upperclassmen and the people who made this desk?" He pointed out.
" Nope!" He shot back. "What junior high did you go to, you side character?"
"I attended Somei Private academy. My name is Iida Tenya."
"Somei!?" His grin widened. "So you're a damn elite, huh? Looks like I'll have fun crushing you!" He leaned his head forward still sneering.
Four eyes was startled by his response, stepping back. "Crushing? That's cruel. Do you truly aim to be a hero?"
"Tch," he averted his eyes, then noticed the someone with curly green hair standing at the entrance of the classroom. It was Deku. The freckled faced idiot went nervous when all eyes were fixed at him.
"Um, well...hello," he stuttered like he always did.
Katsuki gritted his teeth. It was annoying. God, his existence annoyed the hell out of him. He wasn't supposed to be here in the first place. Yet how—?
—Flash back, Katsuki's perspective—
Katsuki was pissed. Oh, he was going to kill the fawk out of that shitty nerd. When his homeroom teacher from middle school called in today, he wasn't expecting to be congratulated for passing into U.A along with the nerd. How in the hell did he pass!? He's a quirkless loser who trembled like any weakling in front of him. What tricks did he use to beat those bots?
The blonde dragged the green haired boy to an isolated area behind the school. This time for sure he was going to get answers from the damn nerd, undisturbed. After all, he didn't like it when the teachers or some extras got in his way getting what he wanted.
"Ka-Kacchan!" He coughed when Katsuki shoved him hard against the wall, cornering him as he fiercely gripped the front of the collar of his uniform.
"What dirty tricks did you use to get in, HUH!?" He snarled at him, enraged. "'The first student from his school to go to U.A.' My future plan has already been torn to pieces. I told you to go somewhere else!"
"Kacchan…" It startled him when he felt his wrist being held tight and firm, strong enough to tear his grip away from his collar. " Someone told me…'You can be a hero'...That it was my own effort..that's why…"He was even more surprised that the shitty nerd had the guts to look at him in the eye now, his eyes filled with determination.
"I'm going!" He yelled, and shoved him off.
The force of that push was enough for him to stumble backwards. The ash haired blonde gaped at him, taking a couple of heartbeats to realize what just happened. He clenched his teeth, feeling more pissed off. Seemed like the nerd realized too late of his mistake as the angered blonde raised his hand, creating small explosions from his palms. "Dekuuuu—"
He whimpered in fear, stepping back...then—
"There you are!" A voice chirped from behind. "Whatcha doing back there, Kitty?"
It was him. It just had to be him. He hadn't seen this dark tanned skin extra for the past 10 months, but even if their meeting was abrupt and short, he annoyed the hell out of Katsuki.
"Gr—" Deku clapped his hands over his mouth, as though he didn't want Katsuki to know. The nerd then ran from his side and hid behind the extra, nervously looking back and forth between him and Katsuki.
The scene pissed him off. "Oi, Deku...What is this, you got someone else to protect you now? You know well I'm capable of beating shit out of anyone, you shitty nerd. You'll regret it if you think this tanned skin bastard can take me down."
The dark blue haired tanned skin boy narrowed his eyes at him with a piercing glare, then looked at her with a warm smile. "Kitty, let's go now. We shouldn't keep your mother waiting." The nerd nodded nervously.
Kitty? Was that Deku's new pet name from that guy? How close are they actually? "Oi," He said , getting a glare again. "What's your relationship with that piece of trash!?" He pointed at Deku. "And Deku, are you hanging around with this guy behind my back because of the special treatment you're getting from him? You're absolutely delusional if you think he's your friend, idiot! He's probably just using you for his fun and kicks."
"No! Kacchan, it's not like that!" Deku protested, raising his hands. "He really is a friend, from childhoo…" he stopped, covering his mouth.
Katsuki was shocked. "Haaaa? Childhood friend? Weren't you the one telling people that I was your childhood 'friend'?"
Before Deku could say anymore, the tanned extra snaked an arm around his waist. "We better go now! We're pretty busy tonight to celebrate with Izu's family…"
"Wahhh!" Deku yelped when he scooped the nerd in his arms, carrying him bridal style. "Oh, about my relationship with "Deku"..." he smirked in a way that really want to make him explode his stupid face, "Your "Deku" is my pet~"
Katsuki's ruby eyes went wide...
…
...
Pet
Something about that word made him have a sudden pain in his head.
Deku's reaction looked like a mix between panic and anger towards the boy holding her. "What are you—"
He snapped his finger, and the flash of bright golden colours, they were gone...
—present—
If that annoying dark tanned skin extra hadn't interfered…
Who was he to butt in? Katsuki never got his name, but he was sure, from a distant memory, that his name was Grey or something .
The only reason Katsuki hadn't land a hand on Deku since the Sludge incident was because he didn't think he'd deal with the stupid nerd ever again after he got in.
He still continued to glare at the smaller boy. How dare he defy me, he thought, scowling. Something's definitely up.
While the nerd was busy talking nervously to some round face extra, Katsuki's eyes lowered to the bottom half of Deku's body, and what he saw widened his eyes and dropped his jaw.
Uniform. The school jacket at the top, school skirt at the bottom, added with black stockings…
...
Was—? What? The fawking hell? Why was that shitty nerd wearing a girl's skirt?! Was he crossdressing now?
At the back of his head something vague just clicked, as though seeing him in a skirt looked familiar, but he was too busy to notice that because—because—
Shit, Deku in a SKIRT!?
Taking his legs off the desk, he slammed his hands forcefully on it, bringing a lot of eyes to his attention. "Oi, Deku! What the hell are you playing at?!" He demanded as he angrily approached the green haired boy. "First the entrance exams, and now this! Are you messing with me and the entire school!?"
"Go somewhere else if you want to play at being friends," some man's voice was heard from the floor, saving Deku. They gaped at some hobo looking guy in a sleeping bag outside the door. How long was he there?
They later discovered his name was Aizawa Shota, their homeroom teacher...
—(Forwarding a bit) later, outside—
"DDDDIIIEEEEE!" He yelled, and threw the ball to the sky. The ball went flying in the air at high speed with explosions.
705.2m.
Everyone gasped at the results.
"750 meters? Seriously?"
"What's this? It looks fun!"
"we can use our quirks as much as we want! As expected from the hero course!"
Katsuki didn't really pay attention to the extra's words. The softball throw distracted his mind for a bit, but his head went right back to those maddening thoughts...
Deku...wore a girl's uniform. He had a skirt on. A SKIRT!
What the hell!? Katsuki did occasionally contemplate that because of how scrawny the shitty nerd looked back in middle school, blending with the girls would be no problem for him if he crossdressed. But to think he actually went on and did it. Holy shit.
Holy shit!
"...Welcome to U.A's Hero Course," Katsuki only caught half of what Aizawa Sensei said.
"Last place will be expelled?" Round face exclaimed. "But it's the first day of school! No, even if it wasn't the first day of school, this isn't fair!"
"Natural disasters, big accidents, and selfish villains. Calamities wholes time and pace can't be predicted, Japan is covered with unfairness. Heroes are the ones who reverse those situations." He explained with boredom. "If you wanted to go talk with your friends at Mickey D's after school, too bad. For the next 3 years, U.A will do all it can to give you one hardship after another. Go beyond. Plus Ultra. Overcome it with all you've got."
Katsuki smirked, motioning his entire arm in circles. This ain't all I've got , he thought, sneering. He looked at Deku's face, and was satisfied by the worrying expression on his face. That's right, this isn't someplace for you nerd. You should give up while you still have the chance.
"On your mark, get set.."
BANG
Katsuki began running, "Explosive speed!" He yelled, activating his quirk. Harsh explosions erupted from his palms, making him fly in midair to the finish line.
4.13 seconds
Deku soon followed a few heartbeats later.
5.51 seconds
Huh? Wait, 5.51 seconds? Wasn't that the exact same result as that extra with the laser quirk? Round face's result was 7.02 seconds , so…
What the hell? He was faster than her, despite not having a quirk?
He glared angrily at the nerd, currently catching his breath and mumbling something. Katsuki had to admit, the sludge incident 10 months ago made him realize and notice some things about him he never before. He was more agile than expected, and seemed leaner. His reflexes were fast, his movements weren't at all sluggish whenever he wasn't clumsy.
As the tests proceeded, Deku kept scoring in between, and not being dead last. This wasn't right. Something was off. He didn't have a quirk, yet his scores beat a few others in particular tests. What was going on?
"SMASH!"
The ball flew with intense speed and force, just like Katsuki's throw. Everyone had gasped by his performance. The ash haired blonde had his mouth wide open at what he just witnessed.
705.3
The shitty netd...beat him?
"Sensei…" Deku turned to their teacher, biting his lip hard, but also forced a smile when he touched his arm. His index finger now looked badly swollen. " I can still move!"
"She got over 700 meters?"
"A hero like record!"
"Her finger is swollen! There was the entrance exam, too. She has a strange quirk."
"It's not really stylish."
Katsuki was still in shock as he began to sweat and his body began to shake without noticing ."Wh-What's with that power?!" Everyone's quirk manifests by the age of 4. This is unthinkable! But in reality…
S-someone told me… "You can be a Hero"...That it was my own effort …
Katsuki recalled what the nerd said that day.
…
His anger was building up. His right hand was shaking as small explosions began to erupt out his palm
"What is the meaning of this?" He hissed under his breath. "Hey!" He began sprinting straight on to Deku's direction out of rage. "Tell me what the f**k is going on Deku, you bastard!"
The freckled boy jumped out of fright and fell behind onto the ground, landing on his butt. Right before he could land a hand on him, Katsuki tripped. And fell hard against the surface of the dusty ground.
That's right, he tripped.
Him out of all people.
"Kacchan!"
"What the hell?!" He whipped his head behind him as he tried to get up. He gasped. His right foot...was inside some sort of bright golden hole! It was not something dug at the ground as his foot couldn't be seen due to the bright golden void, and he couldn't feel anything from the bottom. But Katsuki was certain that hole wasn't there a moment ago. He pulled his foot out hastily, and the golden void had vanished a heartbeat later.
"Grey's quirk…" Katsuki's head snapped at Deku now. The shitty nerd's shoulder tensed from his maddening glare as he gulped. That tanned skin extra butted into my business with Deku again! He stood up and looked around his surroundings, where the hell was that bastard watching from?!
"Huh, someone else did my work for me," Aizawa Sensei put his...long cloth thing around his neck again. "Bakugou, don't kill Midoriya yet. The tests still haven't finished. You can deal your matters with her once school's over. Alright, next person."
The nerd got up, nervously looking at him before running away.
He clenched his fist, glaring at Deku.
Until a little while ago, you were just a pebble on the side of the road…
He clenched his teeth hard until it hurt, his eyes looking wild and angry.
A pebble...on the road! You were...!
—(Forwarding) later
"Okay...I'll quickly tell you the results," Aizawa Sensei said in a bored manner. But before he could, the nerd raised his hand, "Yes, Midoriya?"
"S-Sensei," the boy hesitated. "After I injured my finger, I came to realize something...the thing you said relating to expulsion…" several students tensed on the subject, "...that was a trick, wasn't it? As it was a rational deception to draw out the upper limits of our quirks."
The teacher stared at her blankly, then looked away shrugging. "Seems like you calmed yourself too quickly if that brain of yours was able to see through that."
Deku gave out a sigh of relief. "So I wasn't going to get expelled…"
Huh? Was most of their reaction.
"Of course that was a lie," the ponytailed girl said to round cheeks and glasses as they were having some sort of freaked out mode. "It should've been obvious if you thought about it."
Katsuki wouldn't have cared less if the expulsion was a ruse or not, but the fact that Deku noticed before he did…
It was annoying, if not pissing. The nerd was supposed to be an idiot! He kept dreaming about being a hero when he was told that he had no quirk. He couldn't think realistically, yet…
"Midoriya," Aizawa Sensei gave a slip to him. "Have the old lady fix you in the nurse's office. Tomorrow will be packed with even more rigorous tests. Prepare yourself." He turned to leave, but halted, "Also," he added, and Katsuki's ears were listening. "Tell that Nakamura kid not to interfere with your training from today onwards. I understand he's worried about you, and I'll let him off the hook for today. But if this continues, his actions could have an effect on your learning and progress in the battlefield. Eventually, the school may have to do something about him."
Nakamura? His eyes narrowed suspiciously. Was it...The tanned skin bastard?
Deku gasped. "Sensei...how do you know Grey?"
"Hmm?" He blinked. "Why wouldn't I know who he is? Other than the incident he created years ago—" Deku's shoulders stiffened, "—he's also a student in this school."
The blonde and green haired teen's eyes went wide. "Huh?"
"After the entrance exam, he had a last minute change of school, and got into U.A through recommendations. Currently, he's in Class 1-B: Hero course department."
Katsuki's jaw dropped as Deku turned paler.
"And from your reaction, I'm guessing he didn't tell you. Despite how close the two of you are."
"H-he was all happy and chirpy this morning for some reason," Deku said slowly to himself. "I thought he found himself a girlfriend or something...but to think that crazy fool got into the same school as me…" he took a deep and shaky breath. "I don't feel too good, I think I should go to the infirmary now."
And quickly fled.
—Later, after school, evening, Apartment —
Katsuki began slamming his fist rapidly at the door. "Oi! Shitty Deku! Get out here this instant!" He shouted angrily. "You've got a lot to explain to me! Come out this instant, you coward!"
The door to the right next to Deku's apartment slammed open. "The hell's going on!" A man, looking like he was in his 30s, yelled. "Brat, there's a thing called a doorbell! Don't go on and cause a commotion! You're disturbing the neighbors!"
The door to the right next to Deku's apartment opened. "What is going on here?" Some old woman asked, looking concerned. "What's all this ruckus about? Oh!" The old hag took a closer look at him. "Katsuki-kun? Is that you? My, you've grown big!"
"Huh?" Katsuki blinked. "Uh...who are you… ma'am?"
"Oh...yes...I suppose it has been a while since we have last seen each other."
"Katsuki?" The man frowned, contemplating. "Oh, wait. I vaguely remember a brat with spiky hair coming here to play with Mrs. Midoriya's kid a long time ago...but wasn't he a feral temperamental beast?"
A vein popped at his head. "Who ya callin 'beast', old man!?"
"Old man! I'm...ugh...never mind, you're definitely that brat from that time."
"What brings you here, Katsuki-kun?"
Katsuki touched the back of his , trying to calm himself. "I'm here for De...Izuku...Just needed to talk, for all times sake." He gritted the last part out, annoyed when the image of Deku wearing a skirt flashed in his mind before anything else.
The women looked at him sadly while the other man went cautious. What the hell were those expressions?
"I'm sorry, Katsuki-kun…" the woman said. "I doubt you were aware of this, but the Midoriya family don't live in this building anymore."
...What? His eyes widened.
The old hag touched her chin. "It was probably 7 or 8 years ago, back when you and Inko's daughter—" he went stiff. Daughter? "— were 7. I wasn't here to see them off as I was on vacation, but according to what I heard…" she hesitated, looking away. "To think something like that would happen here…"
"What?" He demanded. What the hell was going on?
The man answered, his expression grimed. "A villain broke into their home…"
The ash haired blonde froze, his mind went blank.
"We weren't told why, or how, but some villain attacked them, and got Inko hospitalized. I think her daughter was severely injured, too. Blunt trauma, they said."
"I overheard a rumor that someone had also died here that tragic night," The woman said to the man. "I don't know who, though…"
The man nodded, momentarily forgetting Katsuki was still there. "Me, too. Although that had never been officially confirmed. Anyhow, that rumor was pretty much the reason why no one wanted to rent their old place after they moved...Hmm? Yo, brat. You okay?"
"I'm fine," he snapped sharply, and swatted his hand away when he came close. "I'll...I'll be leaving now...thanks for telling."
He turned and walked away, fast. Katsuki's breathing went fast the moment he heard about the villain. He didn't know why his body was reacting mind had experienced some sort of mild headache when they told him the news, and he wasn't sure why. There was some sort of pain in his chest, too.
But he couldn't deal with those now. There were too many thoughts running in his head. But the main ones were…
How did I not know about this?
What else are you hiding from me, Deku?
Who are you, Deku?
