—Ground beta, outside the building, No one's perspective —

She was going to die.

Definitely. Absolutely. No doubt about it.

She was facing off against Iida-kun...and goddamn Katsuki (of all people).

"Memorizing this floor plan is a little hard, huh?" Uraraka said, as she looked at the blueprint of the building the villain team was in.

Memorizing the blueprint? That was no issue for her. There were times when a murder investigation suddenly turned into either a hostage situation, or a manhunt for a serial killer. There was always a building involved, like a safe house for the killer to rest, and she had to know the structure of the building by heart before taking action.

Uraraka smiled. "But All Might's amazing though, he's exactly the way he is on TV. Unlike Aizawa Sensei, it looks like there's no punishment related to expulsion so we can relax—GEH! You look nervous!"

"I must really be hated by the gods," Izumi said to herself bleakly, "or maybe there is no god at all."

"Izumi-Chan, Why are you saying such things?" She asked, concerned.

Izumi smiled sweetly to her, and said in a tone full of dread, "Because I know I'm going to be downright murdered by Kacchan, today."

"I-I-Izumi-Chan! Your face and your words don't match!

"Please say your prayers for me, and quickly send me to Recovery Girl once the fight's over." She went on, and Uraraka could have sworn lights were radiating behind the green haired girl, as though she was an angel going to be sent back to heaven—

No! No! Izumi-Chan wasn't going to die in his hands! She may have not known the ash haired blonde for long, but she certainly didn't like the way her friend was treated by him.

"Sorry…" Izumi sighed, biting her lip as her hands shook. "It's not about the course.. It's just we're going up against Kacchan."

"Oh, I see. Bakugou's the one who makes fun of you, right? He is pretty scary."

She hummed. "He's amazing. Yeah, he's a piece of work and a major pain, but… his goal, his confidence, his strength, his quirk… they're all so much better than mine."

"Izumi-Chan…"

"But that's why right now…" she stood, slipping her face mask in place and narrowed her eyes on the building with a gulp. " I can't lose to him this time. I won't lose to him."

I can't have him perceive me as being useless and helpless. I want to change the image that's stuck in his head.

" Now let's start the indoor person-to-person combat training with team A and team D!"

—Forwarding, late afternoon, At a bar near the precinct—

"May I ask why high schoolers are working as police officers?" The newbie, who just joined the force last week, asked. His face looked confused and concerned.

He saw a high school boy with tanned skin and sharp golden eyes, accompanied by a girl with long flowing green hair and eyes, at a crime scene last night.

The other officers stared at him, and the newbie was starting to wonder if he asked something wrong.

Sansa Tamakawa licked his lips as he placed his glass down. "Shirota Misono was your name, was it?" He looked at him. "Yeah, I understand if you're confused. That was the same kind of reaction I had a few years back."

"Few years back?" He exclaimed. "How long have they been cops?"

"Officer Devil, Aka, Grey Nakamura, earned his badge at Angel, Aka, Midoriya Izumi, got hers at 12. Both had been trained immensely by professional policemen for years before taking the exam."

"This really sounds surreal," the newbie noted, taking a shot.

"Maybe, but it's true," one of the officers said.

"But, we admit, just because they're kids doesn't mean they perform their task idly," another added. "Everything's efficient!"

Sansa purred as he rubbed his cat ears lightly. "You can say that again. The number of murderers they caught these past years really increased our statistics. Especially the number of people who are wealthy enough to buy their way out of jail. It's remarkable."

"Did the general commissioner really allow this?" He asked.

"Hmm," he sighed heavily when he recalled those days. "At first, he was opposed to it. Nakamura has a record because of the incident he caused, and he could clearly tell that Midoriya-San wanted to be an officer in the first place so she could initiate her first step of her revenge."

Shirota frowned. "Revenge?"

"A villain broke into her home. Her mother is still hospitalized, and her close friend was killed that night. She's still looking for that bastard."

"Oh," was all he said.

"Anyway," The cat-man went on, "eventually the commissioner agreed after they passed those exams. He set certain conditions for those two to take this job early, and since then, kept their identities a secret from the public. Thus, Angel and Devil were born."

"What were those conditions?"

"Boy, you sure ask a lot of questions," an arm was suddenly around his neck from a slightly drunk cop who sat next to him. "Not that it's bad, but be sure not to ask these kinds of things in front of the kids. It's a little touchy for them." He took a shot and sighed. "About those conditions—for Midoriya, she has to keep her job in utmost secrecy from her school and friends. The police don't need more questioning from nosy brats and people when we're trying to keep it lowkey so that it wouldn't be heard by the wrong ears. Her second condition is that, unless it's related to work, she's prohibited from using her authority for any personal business. Even if she is a quirkless and people don't take her seriously, she has to stick to the rules."

Shirota choked on his drink. He wiped his mouth with his sleeve. "SHE'S QUIRKLESS?" He yelled, gaining unnecessary attention from other drinkers. "But with one glance, her eyes looked so intimidating."

"I know, right?" The arm around his neck was released as the officer refilled his glass. "Leave our terrifying werewolf Captain to personally train an innocent little red riding hood, then boom! We got ourselves an Ice queen who's equally terrifying."

"From what I hear, it seems she isn't quirkless anymore ." Sansa said calmly. All the other cops who drank choked. They gaped at the cat-man with dead silence. "Apparently her quirk finally manifested a while back, and she got herself accepted into U.A."

"Whoa, are you serious?" The man beside Shirota demanded. "U.A, huh? Shit! That's great news for our little lady." He refilled his glass happily to drink.

Sansa waited for the glass to touch the man's lips, then added, "Oh, and so did our little devil."

He choked, and coughed hard enough for Shirota to panic and gently rub his back.

"Sansa! Not cool,man!"

One cop sucked her breath. "Devil-Greyhound got into U.A? Well...I'm not sure how to react. And that doesn't mean it's good."

"Nakamura in U.A?" Another said warily. "Well, I hope that school can make a hero out of that monster."

Shirota felt a chill in his spine from hearing all of this. The tanned boy didn't look that intimidating, nor cold compared to Midoriya when he briefly looked at the pair. In fact, it looked like he was flirting and goofing off, giving off a warm atmosphere. Was he wrong about it? He decided to find out more. "What were the conditions for Nakamura?" He asked boldly to the cop beside him.

After recovering from choking, he hesitated. "Newbie, do you recall seeing a black choker around Nakamura's neck?" He nodded. "It may look like a choker, but it's actually a kind of monitor which he should absolutely NOT take off. After the incident he caused a few years back—which I will tell you later if you don't know—the general commissioner and the captain have to keep a close eye on him. That collar is also a kind of quirk cancellation."

Sansa continued for the man. "The boy has 2 quirks. One that involves teleporting, and the other is highly classified. We don't know what it is, and that proves how dangerous his second quirk is. The only time he can activate his second quirk is if he gets permission from the general commissioner or the captain, or a fingerprint scan from his father or Midoriya-San."

A hand clapped on Shirota's shoulder. "A word of advice from your senior, newbie." The guy next to him said seriously, he no longer looked drunk as it seemed that this entire conversation had kept him sober. "If you want to be closer to them as co-workers, then I advise you to first befriend the Angel. She may be a scary Ice queen, but that's just a poker face mask she wears only during work. She's a much brighter child in person."

—Meanwhile, Outside of the building of U.A—

Katsuki hadn't said a word after the fight ended. He lost...against Izumi. He had no feeling of anger, or resentment when her team were announced as winners. He was still trying to figure out some things, like his feelings were now a big mix of emotions that didn't have anger included. And...the conversation they had during the fight…the things Izumi said to him. The way she looked at him in a lifeless sort of way.

Kacchan...how could you of all people say that to me when you were there that night. When you forgot everything about me, about us! How could I tell you when you keep forgetting me, and leaving me behind, Kacchan!

Those words kept ringing in his head, even though it didn't make sense. What did she mean he was there that night? And Forgetting her? She was a damn nerd ! How could he forget that damn nerd's existence. She followed him wherever he went, it annoyed the hell out of him, so why did she yell that he was leaving her when she herself kept following?!

"You really went and did it, huh? Kacchan?" He halted at his tracks. it wasn't Izumi. The voice was familiar, but it was deeper, and it annoyed him when he realized who it was . He looked ahead.

From a distance, Grey Nakamura stood there with arms crossed, his back leaning against the pillar, as though the tanned boy had been waiting for him. His eyes looked sharper as he glared at the ash haired blonde, full of hidden and maddening anger. "A broken arm, and some burn marks on her skin that would leave scars. Have you still no feelings of remorse?"

"Why didn't you interfere this time?" Katsuki demanded. "Were you enjoying the entertainment displayed for you to watch from somewhere?"

He replied, "Izumi wanted me to pay attention to class this time and not interfere. I respect her wishes, so I did just that. However," he narrowed his eyes at him. "If I had known that you, out of all people, were her opponent, I would have ignored it."

Katsuki glared at the boy. "What's Deku to you, tanned skin?"

A smirk formed, and it infuriated him. "You mean Kitty?"

"That's not her name, damnit!"

"Well neither is "Deku"." He looked at the blonde with suspicion. "Why does it matter to you?"

"Deku said you two were childhood friends, but I have no fu**ing recollection of seeing you in the past until 10 months ago. I don't know what your motive is to be around that shitty nerd, nor know how you know me like we're buddies of some kind."

Grey chuckled. "Are you worried I might be an enemy who would threaten you by taking Izu away?"

He didn't know why, but Katsuki felt the cocky bastard struck a nerve at him. "Oi, I don't care if that nerd was dead." A tinge of pain was felt within him for saying that, but he ignored it. "She's your pet, right?" Another pain. "Then for all I care, the two of you can run away and go die in a ditch somewhere! I was a stupid kid to let that shitty, damn, annoying nerd be my friend, associating myself with the nerd should have never happened he first place!"

Grey's cocky smile melted away as he stared at Katsuki with wide eyes.

"Was it you who planted the idea to trick me into her head!? Haaa?! If that's so, then it makes sense why she's suddenly being bold and doing stupid shitty things recently! What other crazy foolhardy ideas did you fill her head with? To save me from the sludge villain? To apply to U.A? To become a hero?"

The tanned boy was silent as the wind rustled past them, his head looked down. Katsuki sneered. But katsuki should have known better. He should've paid more attention to the pain in his chest that was screaming at him rather than be blind by anger.

—meanwhile, back at the bar—

The newbie gulped. "Is Nakamura really that bad of a person for everyone to be wary of?" He asked meekly. Holy shit, if that boy was dangerous, why did the commissioner allow him to take such a responsible job?

"It's not that he's bad. He has his own sense of justice and righteousness that doesn't break any laws. However...he has another side of him. Umm... A darker side, which rarely surfaces. He can become unpredictable if something were to happen to Midoriya. Basically, if you have some sort of resentment or grudge towards her—to the extent where you want to physically hurt her, then you're making that Devil your enemy."

—meanwhile, back at school—

"As I thought, you piss me off."

The atmosphere suddenly went colder, and darker—enough to melt the smirk off of Katsuki's face. Grey snapped his fingers and suddenly plunged his right hand forward. A small portal in the size of a ball opened, and his hand went straight into the golden void. The other end of the void opened right in front of Katsuki, and so did Grey's hand.

"Gah!...ah...geh…" Katsuki choked when he felt the hand suddenly grab his neck fiercely, the fingers were digging into his skin. Katsuki unconsciousness gasped for air in a desperate manner, both his hands gripped Grey's forearm, trying to release himself free.

"You know, the moment I first saw your photo," Grey said in a murderous tone as he looked up, his sharp golden eyes glowing from his darkened face, " I immediately knew I would dislike you."

—meanwhile, bar—

Sansa said to the newbie, "In the first year on the force, they had a rough start, especially Midoriya-San. Some officers—disgusted, jealous, and angered that a quirkless child climbed certain ranks that had taken them years to reach—began to harass her and leave threats. Some didn't even hide their resentment towards her, and openly discriminated and ridiculed her in front of the other cops. But Midoriya-San said nothing, and endured the harassment, not even telling the captain, her uncle. When they finally crossed the line...Nakamura got furious."

Sansa stared at his empty glass when he recalled those days. "our little Devil decided to take action in the shadows. He dug out their personal info that had dirt about them, and exposed it to everyone. He not only humiliated them, but got people to turn against them. Furious at their situation, those scums decided to vent their anger out to Midoriya-San in front of everyone. But the twisted part was that it seemed that was Nakamura's objective all along."

Shirota gasped. "For those officers to openly attack a young girl?"

The cat man looked at him. "For many grown men to attack a girl all at once gives a legitimate reason for him to openly fight against them, as it would be seen as defending and protecting a helpless fellow colleague. And the moment he landed a punch...Uh…things didn't end well for them. " Sansa looked at the other cops. "What were the injuries again?"

"One got 4 broken ribs,"

"The devil broke both legs of some bald man,"

"Broken nose and teeth. Anyway, I still think they deserved it."

"Even if he went little overboard despite orchestrating the whole thing," Sansa went on, looking back at him, "He got away with a warning and suspension, while the injured bastards got themselves fired."

"He's someone you need to be cautious with. You know," a female cop said walking to them, "In my opinion, if there's a possibility where Nakamura took the path of a villain, and god forbid it, I can guess the first person he's willing to kill."

"The kid from the Sludge incident?" Sansa said.

She nodded. "No doubt about that,"

—school—

Katsuki gasped for air. He tried activating his quirk, but for some reason, his explosions wouldn't set off. What the hell was going on?

"Why did you say all those things, I wonder, when you don't entirely mean it, Bakugou? I never understood what Izumi sees in you to have her following you everywhere." His words were bitter and biting, also filled with anger and murder. "I've been watching you since you were 9. It made me sick seeing how you treated Izumi since you were kids. Izumi pleaded with me not to do anything to you, or meet you in person, until It eventually became inevitable."

Katsuki still gasped for air. Damn, if that bastard wasn't so far away, he could have kicked him to set himself free.

"I'll be honest with you, Bakugou… I really wanted to kill you in your sleep each night."

Katsuki's eyes widened.

"You may not be aware of this, but for certain reasons, despite caring for you, Izumi is also very afraid of you. A lot more than you realize. You're part of the reason why she has nightmares at night; she has enough scars on her body, but you go on creating more; she has and always been suffering, and yet you make the pain worse for her by bullying her, tormenting her, humiliating her...I thought killing you was the only way to put an end to her sufferings."

Grey calmed himself and smiled at him, and that sent actual shivers down Katsuki's spine. "However...fortunately for you, I can't bring myself to do that." He released his grasp from Katsuki's beck, and quickly withdrew his hand out of the void. "Izumi would be sad...no she'd be devastated if something were to happen to you. After all, you are her weakness."

Katsuki's red eyes widened hearing those words. "W...Weak...ness?" He rasped. How the hell was he her weakness? He treated her like shit throughout their lives. Being "childhood friends" definitely didn't explain the reason.

"Ending you would make things easier for her, however...it's not that simple. The reason Izumi still cares for you is not just because you were former friends…" he walked closer to Katsuki and whispered to his ear. "It's because you forgot about "Izumi Midoriya" and started seeing her "Deku Midoriya."

His breath hitched, and his mind went back.

Grey pulled back, his smirk widening. "I can't tell your past, or what happened that night at her old apartment. But what I can tell you is that Izumi feels responsible for what happened to you as you got...dragged into something. Thus, she endured all your bullying because she believed she deserved it as her guilt weighed heavier."

Grey turned away and began to walk. "Her emotions and mentality whenever it comes to you is always a mess, it's unhealthy, it's negative, it's self-blame. While I can't do anything to you, we came to an agreement. I'll keep my blade away from your neck if she'd let me protect her from you."

Katsuki was stunned hearing all of this, but...slowly began to understand why the tanned boy kept interfering. It made sense. But at the same time, something didn't feel right…

—meanwhile, bar—

Sansa contemplated as he handed his money to the bartender. "I wonder…"

The newbie looked at him. "Is something wrong?" He wore his coat.

The cat man began to walk out of the bar, the other followed. "I know Midoriya-San and Nakamura were childhood friends, but I can't help but wonder if she was actually aware of the young boy's other true nature. I never once saw him display any sort of dark behavior in front of her as he always smiled, flirted and goofed off."

"What makes you say that?"

"Because she asked Nakamura to protect her from a boy who she claims is capable of being a monster, when the actual reality is that she sought protection from an actual monster himself."

—school—

"Why...would you go that far for her?" Katsuki asked without thinking. It was like his mouth moved on its own, and the feeling in his chest was unsettling, and demanded to know more.

Grey stopped, and said nothing for a few heartbeats, intensifying the silence. He looked over his shoulder at him, his yellow eyes glowed, but looked deadly and angry. "Because unlike you, who discards her like trash, I treasure her very much. I really love her, you know. "

...

...

It was like the world stopped. And moved...and stopped again.

Katsuki stared and stared at him.

He felt a pain in his head for some reason…

...

This was wrong.

This was wrong.

This was wrong.

Something was wrong.

Izumi...loved by someone…

Wrong.

Wrong.

Wrong.

Why?

Wrong

How?

Wrong

What?

Wrong—

"By the way—" Katsuki flinched when his thoughts suddenly snapped off. "About that "pet" thing...I lied. I just wanted to see your reaction. In truth, Izumi doesn't like being someone's "pet" or being treated like a possession."

"What good does it do telling me this?" He gritted out.

Grey shrugged. "I thought it was something you should know, considering the fact that Kitty was actually your former "pet" before you lost your memories."

"What!?"

"Bakugou, it's best if you forget about your past, and not question Izumi about it. For both your sakes." He snapped his fingers. "Nothing good would come out of it." Then Grey disappeared in the flash of golden lights.

"Kacchan!" A familiar voice screamed from a distance away behind him .

He looked over his shoulder reluctantly. "De...ku…"
