The Doctor didn't like crying.

She never knew what to do when someone started. This incarnation was a bit better than the others at dealing with it but all of the Doctor's incarnations shared the curse of being socially awkward. She hated it when people cried because it meant they were hurting and no one else should ever have to hurt like her.

She let the others deal with it - she was going to make them feel worse if she opened her mouth. Anne looked like she was ready to punch someone - uh oh - and Anna was trying desperately to stop crying.

"But why?" Anna sobbed "Why were they so mean?"

Perhaps if the Doctor explained, she would feel better?

"Because they are taught to hate."

"Hermione?" Justin questioned as her eyes burned.

"Think of - umm Hitler. Yes, Hitler! You do know Hitler, don't you? Met him once." Before the other occupants of the compartment could say something, she rambled on "Of course you do! This is 1991. They think that because you're not Pureblood - you don't have three generations of Ca-magicals in your blood, you're somehow lesser."

"Like Hitler and his 'Aryan' race?" Roger tentatively offered.

"Yes! Exactly like that! They're taught that they're above us like the 'Aryan' race in Nazi Germany. To them we're second class citizens." The Doctor said animatedly.

"But we're not!" Kellah exclaimed loudly surprising the others who had formed the impression that she was kind if a bit shy.

"Unfortunately neither the Ministry or most Purebloods see it that way. They call us Muggleborns and sometimes 'Mudbloods'. It's a not so nice term basically implying that we have 'dirty blood' and that we're 'polluted' because we're not like them."

Silence fell in the compartment as they took the opportunity to digest what they had just been told. Eleven year olds might be young and a bit naive but that didn't mean they were stupid.

"What did you mean about the Ministry?" Lisa asked curiously.

"Not only are Purebloods subtly favoured, they are also blatantly treated better. The only Muggleborns in the Ministry have low jobs and most Muggleborns go back to the non-magical world after the compulsory Hogwarts years. Some stay until NEWTS and try to find jobs but most end up going back. Furthermore, none of us have any real rights. Whatever you do, don't get into a fight with a Pureblood unless you have someone very powerful backing you. Otherwise your court trial will be like a witch hunt."

Anna who had (finally) stopped crying, sat up straighter and said "Let's make an alliance."

"An alliance?"

"We are stronger united than divided" Anne chipped in, supporting her twin.

If the Doctor's presence hadn't been a big enough sign, The Alliance for Equality (AE) indicated that the following years at Hogwarts were not going to go how anyone expected.
