Harry heard the voice and froze in place. The mouth of the statue opened and a giant, HUGE snake started to slither out. It had a dull green tint on its greyscales, and as if it was impossible something else caught the tall boy's attention. Folnir hadn't really taught him anything, as the old man liked his secrets, but when he learned of Harry's affinity with sedir he practically beat into the young boy's head on how to detect with his own magic. And this snake was practically imbued with ancient sedir.
~your body is tall but your soul is young. You dare intrude here!~ the snake hissed at him. Harry looked up and saw the eyes of the basilisk were a startling yellow color. He felt a pulse of magic. Still frozen he just stared at the snake. Who stared back. Their staring match lasted a few minutes as the snake, if it was even possible, started to look confused. ~How do you resist my gaze I wonder?~
~excuse me?~ Harry whispered back, his voice betraying his fear. The snake coiled in on itself immediately.
~You are a speaker. The ancient one was right, another speaker would come. Such would explain how you defy my gaze~ the snake started to sound excited and slithered closer to Harry. It was also when he felt another pulse of sedir coming from the snake as it started to shrink to the size of a small anaconda. ~You will follow me to the personal chamber and accept his gifts~
~I'm terribly sorry, but what are you talking about? Whose gift?~ Harry asked. The snake said nothing as it started to shrink again, becoming as big as a garden snake, and slithered onto Harry's shoulder
~All will be explained in time. Please, go into the mouth of the statue.~ Harry nodded dumbly and walked. Inside the statute was another door. Deciding to trust the snake that could very easily kill him if it decided to, he put his hand on the door. It was he did that he felt a sharp sting in his palm and pulled it back. He noticed that his hand had been pricked and a smear of blood on the doorknob.
Said door glowed a bright green before it flashed white and slowly opened. Inside was a large circular room. On the left was a double poster bed, like the ones in his common room. On the wall beside it was a desk with a potion cauldron and shelves full of potions with a small blue hue, signs of a stasis charm. On the other side, there was a fireplace and a shelf absolutely packed with books of all kinds and another desk with ancient-looking scrolls.
The snake basically pulled him to the desk where there was a neatly folded letter that had a large green wax seal in the form of a snake in the shape of an S. it read,
To my descendent,
My name is Salazar Slytherin. If you are reading this then you have passed three tests to prove yourself of my bloodline. The first is that you looked into the eyes of my basilisk and were protected by my family magic. The second was the blood ward on the entrance to my personal quarters in the castle. And the third was the ward on the room I set. If you enter the room with impure thoughts or evil intentions then the room will hide from you.
For those who pass all three tests, I leave to you everything I own. Godric and I had just made a deal with some goblins. Hang Tooth Gringrotts wishes to open a banking service for us wizarding folks in exchange for their kind to live in the caves that dwell under the Wessex Islands. I have made a key to the vault that was made for me. Anything put in that vault is yours now.
I also offer my personal companion. Not much is know about Basilisks but if mine still lives to see the dawn of this letter opened then he is yours to command. Though he operates on his own merits, I had him installed into the castle wards to protect the students should our ancient home be discovered by those Christian Invaders who would see us burned at the stake and our lives work destroyed.
Though I am not like Godric Gryffindor I wish for you to carry yourself with honor and nobility. In my life, my ambition was the only thing I cared about, and I nearly lost my closest friend because of it. If I am to be remembered, I wish for you to remember this.
Ambition is worthy, but our end result will be dry if the road ends in loneliness. At the bottom of this letter is an ancient spell, used by my wife's clan. It will help you inherit my title. I fear that the Slytherin name will end with me. My enemies grow numerous and my life grows short. I am in accordance with my beloved, our child will take after her clans' name Evangaline or Evans for short.
Your's truly,
Salazar Slytherin, Lord Slytherin of the Castel of Hogwarts.
To say that Harry was shocked was an understatement. "I'm related to one of the Hogwarts founders." He said. Then another part of his brain kicked in. "YOU'RE A BLOODY BASILISK!"
~indeed young one. Did you not know this when you entered the Chamber of Secrets?~
~No. According to the known Hogwarts History, the four founders each had a personal quarter in the school, hidden by powerful magic when they wanted privacy. But when they died, their remaining family kept the locations a secret. No one knows~ Harry replied. ~you tried to kill me with your gaze. When it didn't work you were confused.~
~Yes. When my master left the school his final time he left me special instructions. He said his bloodline would live on, and they would be given the clues they needed to find the chambers. And when they came I was to test them. If they could resist my gaze they would be led to the quarters. If they failed the blood ward I was to eat them. If they passed but couldn't get past the Impurity Ward, then I was to lead them back out and they would be told if they came back they would be killed. But only one came. 49 full moons ago. A speaker came through claiming to be the heir. He used some kind of ritual to control me, his proof. If I could have freed my will I would have killed him.~
~Someone was able to control you?~ Harry asked.
~Dark Magic used to subvert the will of others. I was forced to kill an innocent girl for some kind of ritual, of what I am unsure, but her death was the catalyst for it. His name was Tom Marvolo Riddle. Once he finished he sent me back into the chambers and told me he would be back He said when he came back that we would purge the school of all those with dirty blood. 11 years ago something happened and my will was returned to me, leading me to believe the foolish kid was killed, though he would have been a grown man by then.~ the snake said, anger evident in its hissing.
~Okay, next question, I'm immune to your stare?~ Harry asked
~I am unsure of how my gaze kills but I do know that only my master could resist it. And he told me that his children would also be immune. To prevent me from killing anyone else, I have a special lens that can stop the magic.~ he said. Harry looked into the yellow eyes again, and a small translucent flesh covered the eyes. ~Now please, claim what is yours, and when you do the magic tying me to my old master will tie me to you, and I will be your companion~
Harry nodded and looked at the letter and saw some old Norse rooms. Thank the gods for Folnir being persistent with his learning of the old language, as he began to translate, "By Magik and by sedir, claim your birthright. By the blood and by my soul, claim your title. We are Evangeline, By Freyja's thought and by Tyr's judgment, claim the old and ancient spirits"
As soon as the words left his mouth he was surrounded by a white glow that turned green, black, then white. He felt a pain in his scar, so great that he collapsed to his knees. His last thought was something about being Basilisk food before he passed out.
When he opened his eyes he was in the forest again, Folnir stoking a fire with an amused look on his face. Harry was startled when a large snake by him, but ignored him as it went and laid by the fire. The last occupant in the room was some kind of humanoid figure. It looked like a bay with a flat face with no nose and no ears. It was curled in a fetal position and seemed to be in pain.
"Folnir? What's going on?" Harry asked. The older man held his staff and smiled.
"Well it would seem you have claimed your birthright, and I get to boast about being right again. That letter you read, it told you about Salazar Slytherins's wife and her clan? And the Norse spell you cast specifically called on Freyja. You do indeed come from a blessed family. And it seems when you claimed it, the old seidr was trying to clean you, and this was trying to hang on to you." Folnir said, a smug look in his eyes.
"What is that thing exactly?" Harry asked, feeling lost.
"I am unsure of what you would call it but I do know it is a soul fragment. Probably from the same man that killed your parents." Folnir responded. "It is not unusual for the power-hungry to try and make themselves Immortal. Splitting your soul and sealing it away in an object would mean your soul does not pass to judgment. A bastardized version, but it is immortality all the same. Though this is all guesswork. The seidr is cleansing your body and mind, and that means this fellow is gonna have to go. On to other matters, good work finding a basilisk. Not many men can boast such a strong companion.
"Thanks, I guess. Salazar Slytherin left it for his descendants and to protect Hogwarts." Harry responded, looking at the snake by the fire. Suddenly the humanoid figure screeched in pain before is turned into a puddle of black ooze. "I don't think he has a name, any suggestions?"
A glint appeared in the eyes of the older man, one Harry recognized from countless pranks. "Name him Jormungandr, after the World Serpent."
Harry thought it over, "Well he is a rather large serpent. I guess it'll fit. Not be rude, but why am I here? Why did I pass out?"
Folnir frowned, which Harry found disconcerting. It wasn't often that Folnir frowned questions asked of him. "That spell you chanted did more than just clean your mind. It cleaned your body and your magic. That is to say, completely turned your own magic into sedir. I think the pain of having your magic ripped from your soul only to be refilled in an instant is painful. It's also why the hitchhiker had to go. The magic that latched itself on to you no longer exists, so it moved on for lack of better words."
Harry was once again shocked. "I no longer have my magic…" Folnir shook his head.
"Yes and No. You no longer have wizarding magic. You have sedir. Which means you'll still be able to use your wand and use spells. They'll simply be stronger and more potent. It might bring on some other surprises that you might not know about yet." He explained. "And on that note, I would like to make a deal with you"
"Make a deal with me?" Harry asked. Folnir nodded as he revealed his one lone eye. It shined golden for a moment.
"By now you know who I am, I go by mean names. Havi, Folnir, All-Father, Odin. which one I use is irrelevant. But you know I am looking to escape my fate at Ragnorok. When you had your vision, I saw my own. Your clan was blessed by Frejya. But before they were blessed by Frejya they were not of Midgard. No, I believe them to be from Jotenheimr. They were Jotnar and exceptionally talented with prophecies. Now that you have full access to sedir I have no doubt you will find your own talent as a seer." Folnir now realized as Odin began.
"I will grant you my raven sight. With it, you will see the magic that lives by you or you'll be able to see through the eyes of the owl who has bonded with you. In return, when your time has come, my valkyries will escort you to my hall, where you will take a place with the Nornir and grant your sight to me" He offered. Harry blinked and blinked again.
"What does this raven sight do exactly," Harry asked
"It is simple. It will grant you natural mage sight. The ability to see magic as naturally as you see the color of the leaves on the trees. And so long as Hedwig lives, you will be able to see through her eyes. Your minds will temporarily become one and your Will will guide her as you take in her sight." Folnir said as a snowy owl landed in the clearing with them. It took perch on the same log as Harry sat and stared into the fire.
"And in return you want me to serve you as one of the Nornir?" he asked trying to make sense of what he was hearing.
"Many know but not many truly understand it's meaning. My wife Freyja is Vanir. The Vanir were masters of sedir. For all my might, I am a warrior. In a battle of sedir, Freyja would easily overtake me. What many do not understand was the Vanir had their own fortune-telling. It is the only aspect of sedir the Freyja has not grasped nor does she have no intention of learning. You who is blessed with Sedir, a descendant of the Jotnar who has a natural talent with the Sight, will have a stronger connection with the force governing it. You would be the strongest Seer to ever grace the halls of Asgard." Folnir said.
"You call yourself Folnir, claim to be Odin, but I have not seen proof of it," Harry said, questioning the older man. The older man laughed as he stood up. He motioned for Harry to follow him. They walked through a thick mist in the woods, almost too thick to see each other. They stopped at the edge of a cliff, everything in front of them covered by the same thick mist.
Folnir waved the staff in his hands. The mist started to disperse revealing everything to Harry. Off in the near distance, he saw a golden hall and beautiful architect and following out from it was a bridge made of blue light like substance. "Though I have not found the reason for it yet, your mind is protected by sedir, the same sedir of Asgard. You have been inhabiting the forest outside its walls these past few years. That alone is enough of a mystery that I wish to solve that I allow you to come and go as you please. No one comes here, as I've forbidden them to. And Only Loki will be foolish enough to disobey me if he so chooses. So what say you?"
Harry stood shocked for several moments, but he didn't really have a reason against it. "I suppose so. This sounds like a generous gift, and my afterlife won't be boring." Harry nodded, reassuring himself of this answer. Folnir nodded with him and held out his hand to the younger boy. They shook once and Harry once again felt pain and the world went black.
Folnir watched the boy collapse before Harry disappeared from the forest. He walked over to the fire and sat down again. If anyone looked into the campsite, they would have seen a small light in his single lone eye. It was a green light.
(WITH Harry)
When Harry came to, he realized he was in the hospital wing. He was confused for a moment before the memories came back to him. He hissed as he felt his arm burn slightly, and the feeling inside his body was strange like someone had given him an energy drink made of straight magic. He also noticed that his vision was clear, without his glasses. He was in awe when the world came into focus.
He saw strange, transparent, colors around different things. Around the walls of the castle was a light green color that felt immensely old and powerful. He saw bright yellow energy in the corner, it was situated around a person. Who seemed to notice him. "Hello to you deary. You may call me Madam Pomfrey. I am the medical Witch assigned to Hogwarts. Now hold still while I check on you" She said as she began to wave her wand over Harry.
She frowned when she waved it over his arm and over his face. "Why don't you tell me what you remember from last night? McGonagall found you by the second floors bathroom."
Harry frowned. He didn't know how much he wanted the school to learn. According to the history books Salazar Slytherin was considered a dark wizard with his view on muggleborn and half-bloods. Add to the mix that Basilisks were considered dark creatures...He could see someone naming him a dark wizard. He would feign ignorance for now. "I don't know. I was talking with Professor McGonagall. She sent me back to my dorms. I had to use the bathroom so I stopped at the floor...and then everything went black."
He noticed for the first time since waking up, that the sun was up and rising, meaning that he had been out for the entire night. Madam Pomfrey frowned again. "Someone attacking first years? Unacceptable. But that doesn't explain the residue of energy over your arm or your eyes."
Harry gave her a confused look as she conjured a mirror. Harry's reflection surprised him. His right eye was green but it was different. It was glowing. More so than normal. And his left eye was completely different. Gone was the green, it was replaced by a golden yellow that was also glowing. Where his pupil was supposed to be was a black star, with a faint silver outline that was spinning very slowly. "Tell me is there anything different with your eyes?"
"Umm, well I can see without my glasses for one. Like my vision was corrected. I can also see...something. An aurora of energy. Maybe magic?" He revealed with a confused look. Madam Pomfrey was shocked and said nothing for several seconds.
"Sebastian, come here for a moment." She called. A house-elf popped next to her. "Can you go get the headmaster, please? Tell him that Mister Potter is awake. And bring me a breakfast tray please" The elf nodded and popped away for a moment before he reappeared with a tray of eggs, bacon, and a few biscuits. "Eat up mister Potter. Breakfast was served an hour ago but I know you must be hungry. I will explain more when the headmaster arrives."
She left him to his thoughts as he began to eat and hissed again when his arm started to burn. Suddenly he heard a voice in his head.~the new master is awake~ Harry froze for a moment. That was definitely in his head. ~I was worried when you collapsed in the chamber so I brought you out into the castle, but I sensed someone coming, so I hid~
'And where did you hide? And why can I hear you in my mind?' He asked silently eating.
~I used a ritual that bonded companions can use. It is what Salazar used. It allows me to meld my body with yours, sending my mind into your mental sanctum.~ the snake replied.
'Is that why my arm is burning?' Harry asked with a hiss again, finishing his plate.
~your magic is strange, and it is taking it's time to accept me in this form, which is what is causing the burn. And from the stray thoughts in here, I see you have named me. Jormungandr. I approve.~ the now named Jormungandr responded. He only saw it briefly, but a small black line appeared on the top of his wrist. It was a snakehead, and the body circled around his wrist and up to his arm and onto his shoulder. As it suddenly appeared it also disappeared, just in time for the doors to the infirmary to open as Dumbledore strode in, with a kind smile on his face.
"I see your guest is awake Poppy. Good morning to you Mister Potter." Harry nodded but was confused.
"Not that I am not glad to see you, sir, but why would you come? I thought my head of house would have come?" Harry asked politely. Dumbledore nodded.
"In most cases, Filius would. But he only comes in absentia of a student's magical guardian. In the case of most muggleborn, they only have a muggle guardian. In accordance with the Hogwarts Bylaw, the headmaster acts as the magical guardian while they are at the school. While you are not muggleborn, I am your magical guardian, thus why I was called." He explained. Harry nodded at the reasoning and laid back down. "Poppy?"
The medi-witch nodded as she walked back up the bed. "He doesn't remember anything, nor did he seem to know about his eyes until I showed him. But that's not why I called you here. There seem's to be some kind of magical residue on his arm that I can't identify. I was hoping that you could use your vast knowledge to help. Mister Potter, why don't you tell the headmaster here what you see."
The headmaster nodded as he pulled out his white wand. He waved it over Harry once and made the same frown that Pomfrey did. "Well, like I told Madam Pomfrey, my vision seems to be corrected. In the sense that I no longer need my glasses to see properly. And I think I can see magic now. Or at least everything seems to be surrounded by some kind of weird aura. She's surrounded by yellow energy. You seem to have a white-greyish aura mixed with a purple flame?" Harry said. In his eyes, he could see the gentle greyish aura surrounding Dumbledore, and every so often a purple flame would lick around him for a moment. It reminded him of the fire surrounding the Phoenix he saw in his vision.
"This a strange incident indeed." He said as his eyes started locked with Harry. For a moment the world shifted. He was in the forest of Asgard again, sitting on top of Jormungandr, in his full size, though he was laying down. Folnir standing beside him. Across was Dumbledore, on the opposite side of the fire, looking confused.
"You don't belong here Oath Breaker. Begone" Folnir said with a wave of his staff, a wave of energy coming from it. In an instant, he was back in the great hall. And Dumbledore was sent flying backward onto the floor. He blinked.
"What…?" He said as Pomfrey scowled.
"Really Albus? On what authority do you have to attempt a legilimency attack on the poor boy?" she huffed. Harry looked even more confused and hurt. He didn't know much about it, but he knew what legilimency was. And that it was illegal to use on a minor. The older wizard groaned as he sat up.
"His memories may be tampered with. I was going to see if his subconscious had any recollection of what transpired last night. And I do so as his Magic Guardian." he said, finding the strength to stand.
"Well in your haste, you didn't let me finish my diagnosis. There is one more thing. Mister Potter's magic is strange. Almost to the point, I am hesitant to call it magic, watch. Revelio Magic" She said with a wave of magic. She and the older headmaster started to glow a soft blue. "See? The magic revealing charm does not react to whatever energy courses through his body." This caused Dumbledore to frown again, forgetting his failed attempt to read Harry's mind for a moment.
"Harry, would you grab your wand and cast a spell please?" He asked. Harry nodded and pulled his wand and thought for a moment. A bright light appeared at the end of the wand, much brighter than Harry intended. Realizing his mistake he snuffed it quickly. "Interesting indeed. That is not magic he is using. Hmm." he was silent for a moment. "Mister Potter, are you aware of what Sedir is?"
Harry blinked but nodded. "It's from Norse mythology. It was the magic the Vanir used in their war with the Aesir. But more practically it is what the Viking sorcerers used."
The headmaster smiled. "Ten points to Ravenclaw for a correct answer. You are correct, if only slightly wrong. Sedir is not magic. It is an ancient form of energy used centuries ago. Many theorize it is as old if not older than magic. Some even think magic was a byproduct of sedir being introduced to nature. I believe you to be using sedir instead of magic. But for what reasons, I have no idea"
Pomfrey thought for a moment before she cast her wand over Harry again, "Maybe it is a form of a bloodline? Not from James, but from Lily? Maybe living with muggles stunted his magical growth and being surrounded by the castle's magic jump-started it? It was wildly believed by the scholars that Hogwarts is one of the only places natural Sedir is produced."
"You may be right, do a few tests. If you find nothing else out of the ordinary then send mist Potter on his way. I will take you to your class in the morning. I believe it is transfiguration with the Lions, correct?" He asked Harry nodded
Madam Pomfrey had Harry do a multitude of tasks to test for other injuries and found none. She gave him the all-clear soon enough, releasing him to join his class. "I trust you to keep yourself out of my infirmary Mister Potter. Your father was bad enough." the old witch said, walking back to her office.
"Off we go, Harry. According to Professor McGonagall, I have a safe reason to assume you know where to go? Good. On a side note, please try and keep this to yourself? No need to alarm the school. And if I may suggest a Slytherin approach, try and keep your sedir a secret for now." Dumbledore said. He nodded to Harry before leaving up the stairs, lost in his own thoughts.
~the old one has a strange taste, speaker. He is bathed in the light magic of his familiar and yet his own magic tastes old, far older than he should be. It tastes like the precious treasure stone that Salazar hid~ Jormungandr commented.
Harry said nothing as he walked up the stairs to the first year Transfiguration class. The magic around him was breathtaking and severely distracting. He frowned trying to think if there was a way to turn it off, or at least dim the effects so it didn't completely distract him. His new snake had something to say about that.
~Master, if you wish to stop seeing the world as it is, then simply remove the strange magic powering your eyes. Though the correct term would be hiding your eye, as doing this will simply pull the eye to the background, much as I can do with my hidden eyelid.~ he hissed. Harry rose an eyebrow as he stopped in front of a shiny suit of armor. He looked at his golden eye as he slowly tried to fill for the sedir. It took a minute but he could feel it.
Trying to control it was something else entirely. He could feel the push and pull of the ancient energy but it was silently resisting his will. It took several moments but he saw the golden glow disappear as his normal eye reappeared, though his pupil still remained a black star with a faint silver glow around its edge. Oh yeah, it was also still spinning slowly. Sighing, he resolved himself to his fate. He had accepted the deal with Folnir. He would deal with the punishments.
It wasn't long before he came to the room and took a breath. Walking in, almost every eye was on him as he entered. He ignored them the best he could and took a seat near the front, next to Hermoine. She looked worried but said nothing as the class was still looking at him. The professor smiled as he sat.
"I'm glad to see you are well Mist Potter. You wouldn't believe how worried I was when one of the Portraits reported to me that a student had collapsed on the second story." She said, "If you are here, then I assume Madam Pomfrey gave you an all-clear?" she asked.
"Of course Professor. My apologies for the worry. Headmaster Dumbledore has the story if he wishes to share it with you." He replied.
"Of course. Miss Granger took the liberty of taking some notes for you. Go over them and. We still have over forty minutes of class left, and I wish for you to attempt the spell. The rest of you, please continue." She said, going back to her desk.\
Harry looked at the bushy-haired girl next to him. "You didn't need to, you know. I would have caught up. But thank you for the initiative miss Granger." the girl slightly blushed but pulled out some notes.
"It was no problem, really. You seem to be ahead of your studies and I just wanted to make sure you didn't fall behind me" She said behind a small smirk. Harry grinned as he read over the notes. It was the basics, of which he had already read over.
They were trying to turn a match stick into a needle. Not too hard, he thought to himself as he pulled out his wand. He was determined to eventually learn to master his own magic without a wand, but he found it easier to learn with the wand first, so he could get an understanding of what he was doing. He muttered the spell.
Nothing happened, which caused him to frown before he sighed. He didn't have magic anymore he had sedir. Long ago when Folnir had introduced him to it, he was learning to control the seidr around him and in nature. Now he had to learn the seidr he could naturally call upon now. Which meant relearning basically everything.
Within the remaining time of class, he had successfully made a needle but it was slightly discolored. Hermione however had done it perfectly by the end.
"Okay, good work class. Your homework for this week is to write half a scrolls length essay on the importance of understanding when using this branch of magic. Mister Potter, please stay behind for a moment. "
The class filed out as Harry gathered his items, already guessing what the Scottish woman wanted to talk about. "Are you okay Harry? I noticed you were having a hard time today. I thought transfiguration was something you were adequate with?"
Harry sighed as he pulled the glasses off his face and closed his eyes. Opening them he slowly allowed his left eye to bleed into its golden form, causing McGonagall to gasp. "I don't know what happened last night after I left your office. When I woke up this morning I had this eye and I could no longer use magic. The headmaster assumes I am now using an ancient form of magic called sedir. It's more powerful and more potent, and really hard to use. I just need to be able to tap into this new power properly." He said. "I can see magic now, like natural mage sight, and my vision has been corrected. Headmaster Dumbledore suggested I should try and keep this to myself" his eye turned green again as he put on his glasses.
"Well as long as you are okay…" She said, a small amount of worry in her words. Harry nodded and smiled.
"I am fine professor but I need to get to my next class." he pointed. The Scottish Professor nodded and excused him, leaving her to her own thoughts.
Thre year just started and he was already attracitng unwanted attention. Much like his father she mused. A very interesting start indeed.

And I hope ye enjoyed this chapter. I had fun writing this one, especially the interaction between the snake and Harry. My beta and I ran through a few different names for him but we decided to stick with the Pagan theme and thus Jormungandr.
Also want to start a small thought. What do y'all think of this becoming Harry x Luna x Daphne? I can certainly run the idea. Let me apologizes again for the miss typing. This was always gonna be a Harry x Luna, as it is my favorite pairing, but me and Silver were talking about story called Paid in Blood (harryxDaphne fic) when I was writing the Summary which is the reason for the typo.
I'm sorry again and let me know what you think about the triple pairing :D
