Chap.7
Hey guys,I recently finished the concept for the next few chapters and I gotta say I'm pretty proud of it. Just remember that I prefer A nice slow simmer to make a build up seem earned. I do plan to keep this entire story under 30 chapters so it's digestible but people can still get the most out of its run. I hope you all and enjoy and don't forget to critique and review in the comments below.
Not long into class,Heidi addressed Kenny with the topic at hand and they agreed to meet up after school. Heidi managed to coax Kenny into letting them work at his house. Kenny was very against this. Mainly due to how his parents could be. Also,the homeless tend to linger around the ruins of sodosopa.
But Heidi presisited as Kenny kept dodging an answer to the question.
"Well then since I know where it is,I'll go with or without you."the words engraved into Kenny's head replayed back to him throughout class. Eventually making him cave to her demands.
The school day had ended and Kenny was looking for Karen so he could take her along with Heidi.
"Hey Kare!"
Karen turned around from where Kenny had spotted her. She quickly told her friends good bye and met up with Kenny. But as she got closer, Karen noticed Heidi's presence. She then began to walk slower and in a shy manner similar to when a deer approaches a watering hole. Hoping to not attract any predators.
Karen then gave Kenny a hug and kind of snuck behind Kenny to avoid interacting with this new face.
Heidi noticed this and took the initiative.
"Hello,I'm Heidi. You must be Karen."Heidi said with a smile.
"Come one Kare,she won't bite...I don't think."
Heidi gave Kenny a bit of a scowl.
Karen then came out from behind Kenny. Kenny gave her the way to present herself. Karen was looking at the ground.
"H-hi..my name is -it's nice to meet you"Karen said
Heidi noticed the binder the shy girl was holding. It had some princess and unicorn stickers on it.
"It's very nice to meet you Karen,I like your binder."
"O-o thank you."
And with that the trio head towards the McCormick residences. It was mainly Heidi talking to Kenny while Karen remained silent while sticking close to her brother. Heidi thought this was adorable.
Karen still didn't know what to think of Heidi. Believe it or not,Karen could be just as protective of Kenny as Kenny could be of her. There were a few instances where a drunken Stuart and/or Carol McCormick had thrown a fist or slap towards Kenny and Karen got in the middle to stop her parents from going any further. She was already weary of new people. But new faces around Kenny made it even more so.
While listening to Kenny speak about his opinion on socialism he learned from his father, Heidi noticed that Karen was looking blankly at the ground. Almost like she was being disciplined. But Kenny hadn't done anything to scold her or suggest that he was upset with her. There was only one conclusion Heidi could draw.
Amidst talking,Kenny caught on to this. He gave Heidi a nod.
"Hey Karen,so who's your favorite princess?"Heidi asked.
"My brother."Karen replied.
Kenny proceeded to give himself a metal facepalm.
Heidi just gave him a look of honest confusion. She decided not to push it and change the topic.
"Well who's your favorite Disney princess?"
"Well I'd have to go with Elsa."Karen replied
"Ooo that's really cool,have you seen the second frozen?"
"I haven't...I really want to but…"
Heidi was forced to guess that it was due to her financial situation.
"Well,how about you come around my house sometime? I'd like to have you over to watch it."
Karen was surprised and a little excited to hear this. Similar to her brother,it was the little things that meant a lot to Karen.
"Oo-okay...I'd like that a lot too."
Karen had a smile now on her face.
"Heidi,do you think you could show me how to do my hair like Anna or Elsa's?" Karen replied
"What? That's my job Karen." Kenny said
"Well,your not a the best hair stylist Kenny."Karen replied
This was true. Kenny did sometimes mess up Karen's pig tails by making one smaller than the other.
"Don't worry Karen,you can leave it to me. I know your brother is a dork." Heidi said
Karen chuckled to herself.
"Dork? Dork! I am a stud!" Kenny added with much manly posturing.
"Ok then...dork." Karen added
The trio made it to the McCormicks residence/ruins of sodosopa. Luckily, there were no homeless people around so Kenny didn't need to worry about that. He just had to hope his parents were either working or out of the house for some other reason.
They entered the house. The first(and most obvious) Heidi noticed was the smell. That being the smell of cigarettes and a slight skunk smell. She also noticed the unwashed dishes along with the torn wallpaper. She knew that Kenny was poor but this was pretty bad. No wonder he did it want to work here. He was embarrassed. But,what's done is done. They stoppped near the couch and set their stuff down.
"I'm tired Kenny,I think I'm gonna nap."Karen said
"Alright Kare,make sure to do your homework and let me know when your hungry."Kenny replied
"Okay."
Karen went off to her room.
"O my gosh you guys are adorable. Your such a great big brother." Heidi said
"Well...ya…"Kenny replied
Kenny pulled out his supplies for the project from his backpack.
"Alright,where the hell were we on this damn thing?"kenny asked
"Well I think we were start the-
And before they could even begin to start the project, burst through the door with his wife behind him. Beer in hand of course.
"I don't need your shit bitch!" Stuart said.
"Well maybe you need some shit so you can get off you ass and work!"Carol McCormick retorts
"I wouldn't need to work so goddamn much if you hadn't pulled that shit at Thomas's place!"
"You know damn well I needed to do that,because unlike you,I actually give a fuck about our kids!"
"That's bull shit,now shut your ass up before I do!"
proceeds to smack her husband across the face.
"Alright then bitch!"
Stuart retaliates with a slap of his own.
Before she is able to bring down the hammer, Carol looks towards the doorway where Kenny has the door open with Heidi following him.
"Who's that Kenny?" asked
Kenny looks at her with tears in his eyes.
"It doesn't matter,maybe it would if you paid attention."
With Heidi out the door he proceeds to slam the door shut.
"Let's just go to your house…"
Kenny begins to walk out the walkway with his face pointing towards the ground. Heidi doesn't say anything and just follows Kenny.
This continues for a few hundred feet. Heidi begins to walk alongside Kenny and notices the tears in his eyes.
Kenny notices this and begins to wipe his tears.
"Kenny...I'm sorry" Heidi states
"Dont...don't you dare say that." Kenny replies with a serious tone.
"Why?"
"BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY ALL SAY! The brofloskis,the marsh's,Cartman's goddamn mother, and everyone else in this GODDAMN TOWN!"
"Kenny I-
Before she could even begin,Kenny cut her off.
"They all say the same goddamn thing because they think that I should be pitied because all my household is some trailer trash who just get drunk and high all day. And after that,they go and abuse their kids. But that couldn't be further from the truth. My parents love Kevin,Karen,and I. And we love them. My parents want to do more for us but they made mistakes. They know that and they want to be better. But people don't seem to see that. They don't seem to understand that there's more than meets the eye…"
"Kenny…"Heidi said.
"Listen,I'm sorry I yelled but I'm just so done with the same sympathy song dance. I don't even know if you believe what I'm saying,especially after just what you saw. But...they do care. I know they do…."Kenny replied
"Well then I believe you."
"What?"
Heidi put her hand on Kenny's left shoulder.
"A lot of people have told me things about you I used to believe. They said that you were a sleazy flirt in a parka who only cared about scraping by. But you have shown that there is more than meets the eye. You showed me that you are a very caring human being that has his own way. Regardless if that's consoling a friend you just made or if that is standing up for your family and making sure they know that you love them. Kenny...I believe you,without a second thought."Heidi fisnhed with a smile.
"Heidi…thank you."Kenny said as he wiped away his tears.
"No problem."
A thought popped into Heidi's head. She meant what she said about believing Kenny,but that didn't change the fact that people could be unpredictable when intoxicated. Not unlike the McCormick parents.
"Kenny...we should go back...we should check on Karen."
Kenny looked Heidi in the eyes.
"Karen? Karen…KAREN!" Kenny said
With that last word,Kenny bolted towards the direction of his house. Heidi ran after him but was quickly out sped.
Kenny had arrived and right to Karen's window. Completely taking out the frame,he then called out for his sister. Karen was surprised by this. She was in her bed.
Heidi arrived next to Kenny,completely out of breath "Come on Karen,it's a code purple."
"Okay,I'll get my stuff."Karen replied
"Pur*pant pant*purple?"
"We use codes rather than the actual situation to ensure we know what we need to do. It's been helpful in the past."Kenny said.
And with that Karen grabbed all the stuff she needed for school and climbed out the window. They arrived at Heidi's house within about fifteen minutes.
Ok the way Kenny noticed Craig house
"Still got to find out what that bastard knows"Kenny thought to himself.
Whenever Kenny revived and certain events seemed to still have happened, he refers to that as a point reversal. This allows him to progress in time without the worry of going back in time.
He thought his immortality caused a point reversal that seemed to change when he entered the fourth grade. His deaths were pretty random though. Maybe Craig knows something that can aid his situation and be able fix his immortality. The truth is that Kenny fears his own immortality. After he came back from the time he had muscular disease, he now knew that his immortality wasn't bound to natural causes of death. What if he doesn't die again until he's 104 and all the people he loves are gone. And what if the point reversal around that time is after he loses everyone and he's just stuck wondering eternity all on his own. Kenny shook these thoughts off as they arrived at Heidi's house
Heidi's house was a cornflower shade of pink. Heidi welcomed the McCormick siblings into her house. It has light blue wall paper with pictures of scenery.
"Are these stock photos or something?" Kenny asked
"No, my mom took those. Photography is one of her hobbies." Heidi replied
"Heidi is that you?"an unknown voice let out.
"Speaking of which…"Heidi added.
At the top of the stairs a woman appeared. She had light brown hair with a light pink button up with a blue undershirt. Kenny was forced to assume that this was Heidi's mother. She walked down the steps with a look of skepticism.
"Mom this is Kenny,we are doing a project together for class." Heidi said
"Hello,it's nice to meet you ."Kenny said with his hand outstretched. went to shake his hand.
"Ooo it's nice to meet you Kenny. And please, call me Nancy. And who might this be?"
Kenny looked at Karen. He had no problem introducing her,but he didn't want to expose the reason. So he was forced to make one up.
"Ooo...this is my sister Karen. She was at my place but my parents were still working. So,I brought her with if you don't mind."Kenny said
"H-hello." Karen said.
"It's not a problem at all." replied.
After this Heidi and Kenny started working on their project as planned. Heidi was doing the majority while Kenny was just being a goofball to bring some humor into it.
After they finished,Heidi decided to put on frozen 2 as promised for Karen. Karen had a great time but Kenny was pretty upset with the sound track. It wasn't as catchy as the first. The movie soon finished and Kenny decided the smoke had probably cleared at home.
"Thanks for having us Heidi but we have to go."Kenny said
heard this.
"Aaa so soon. But I just started dinner. I'm making my famous pasta fazool." .
"It is pretty good,"Heidi said while looking Kenny in the eyes with a smile.
Kenny then looked down to Karen
Karen was looking at Kenny with puppy eyes. Kenny knew fully well how much Karen appreciates the joy of a home cooked meal rather than pop tarts or waffles. Plus,how could Kenny refuse puppy eyes.
"Alright,we can stay for dinner."Kenny said
"Yay!"Karen said with glee
proceeded to continue with preparations for dinner. She was joined by her daughter in the kitchen while Kenny and Karen helped set the table.
When the food was done they all took their seats. Kenny sat in between Heidi and Karen and was positioned right in front of . The pasta smelled amazing and the McCormick siblings couldn't wait to dig in.
An impatient Karen went for a bite and was met with a mouth full of delicious pasta accomiped with a broiling heat. Karen immediately regretted this and her face showed this.
"Ooo I'm sorry dear it's hot…" said.
"You could have said that…"Karen said mentally.
then turned her attention to Kenny who was cooling down his pasta by blowing on it.
"So your the McCormick kids right?" said
"Ooo ya."Kenny replied
"How's your mother doing?"
"My mom?"Kenny thought to himself.
The first thing that came to his mind was his mother taking a slap to her face. Why would care about how her mother was doing?
"My mom...is fine...I guess."Kenny replied
"She sells drugs."Karen said
"KAREN!"
"What? it's true. All the kids say it. Even Cartman says it."Karen stated
Kenny questioned why she mentioned Cartman. He always tried to keep Karen as far away from Cartman as possible. Had Cartman been talking to her when his back was turned? He'd have to put some research in to find out.
Kenny looked toward who had a hand over her mouth. She then proceeded to remove it so she could speak.
"I guess her old habits haven't changed." said with disappointment.
Kenny then looked down at his plate with disappointment. She was just another town folk that thought his mother was nothing more than white trash.
Heidi noticed this and was growing a bit upset with her mother. She knew this had to hurt Kenny after everything she had seen at the mccormicks household.
Before she could say something,Heidi's mother spoke.
"Still,if she's anything like how I knew her,she's probably the hardest working at what she does. Never faltering for a second,huh?"Nancy Turner replied.
Kenny looked up with a face of surprise. Most adults just blew off any effort his parents went into raising them. Probably just perceiving it as them just trying to look like more than white trash in public. But Nancy knew more. Kenny didn't know how but she did. That brought a smile to Kenny's face.
Heidi saw the look on Kenny's. She was happy that he was happy.
Dinner continued with small talk and eventually finished. Kenny and Karen helped clean to show their appreciation.
Kenny noticed that it was getting late and that he should probably get Karen home.
"Alright guys,I think we should get going."Kenny said
"O...alright,it was nice having you over." replied
"Thanks for having us ." Kenny followed.
"Rember call me Nancy." corrected.
"Right,my bad."Kenny stated while putting his hand behind head.
"Thank you Nancy."Karen said
Nancy Turner's heart skipped a beat. She thought Karen was the most adorable thing.
Kenny and Karen waved and walked out the door. Heidi followed them outside. She looked back at her mom who was giving her a wink. Heidi smiled and rolled her eyes to deny whatever her mother was thinking.
Once they were at the door,Karen turned and approached Heidi.
"Thank you…"Karen said
"No problem,maybe we can hang out agin soon and watch more-
Karen then pulled Heidi into a hug. Heidi was shocked but reciprocated. Heidi felt happy and somewhat fulfilled to have Karen show affection like this so quick.
Heidi then broke the hug.
"If you ever see me in school,don't be a stranger okay?"
"I won't." Karen said with a smile
Karen backed off so her brother could say his goodbyes.
They were awkward about it at first but Kenny and Heidi eventually decided to hug. Hugs were kind of the vibe now thanks to Karen.
After a few seconds,they began to broke the hug when Heidi asked a question.
"Are you sure you need to go? What if it's not safe for you guys to go back?"
"Trust me,they just needed time to work off whatever they were on."
Heidi thought about prodding. But,she told Kenny earlier that she believed him. That also meant that she would have to trust him.
"Okay just...let me know if that changes,we have an extra room if you need it. And Karen could stay in my room."Heidi said
"Like a sleepover!?"karen said with excitement
"Yep."Heidi replied
Karen then looked at her brother with a grin. Kenny knew what she was suggesting but he didn't want to burden the Turners or piss off his parents.
"I'll be sure to remember that…"
Kenny then looked into Heidi's eyes with a smile and she was doing the same to his. They did this for a few seconds but Kenny finally broke the hug and grabbed Karen's.
"I'll see you tomorrow."Kenny said
"Ya...you too." Heidi replied
Kenny and Karen began to walk away from Heidi. Kenny then turned his head towards Heidi.
"And Heidi…" Kenny stated
"Ya?" Heidi said before entering her home
"Frozen one shall forever have a superior soundtrack."
Heidi rolled her eyes at his comment.
"Whatever dork."
And with that the McCormick siblings walked back home. Heidi had gone to her room to go onto her phone. She was listening to music and flipping between texts with her friends. They were planning a get together sometime in the future. She looked at her window. She got up from sitting on her bed and looked towards the direction of Kenny's house.
Hopefully her trust wasn't misplaced.
Holy guacamole. Well my concepts worked out for this story as planned. I was originally doing a good job of writing in the first half of this chapter. But then I got into an argument with my girlfriend and was pretty upset. I made the mistake of writing angry and was distracted the entire time. Probably from the point at which Kenny and Karen arrive at Heidi's house till about when they leave. I could tell this was bad so I took a bit of break and held off a bit so I could acquire positive vibes agin. I worked everything out with my girl and was able to revise a bit of the story. So a quick tip from yours truly, Only write with positive vibes. These next few chapters are gonna come out a little bit later than the other ones to ensure I can take the time to write them best I can.
