Chapter 1
Lucy POV
"Wow!" exclaimed Lucy. "They finished it!" She had recently come back from vacation with her friends, Natsu, Gray, Erza, and Happy. During their vacation, Erza had been kidnapped and they had to fight through the Tower of Heaven to rescue her.
"Its different," mumbled Natsu. As they began walking through, she noticed a lot of changes.
"Is that an outdoor café?" asked Gray.
"Woah, they have a store," said Happy as he flew over to the small building. "Hey Max, what are you selling?"
"Oh, we have some towels, fake Erza swords, and our best-seller," he said as he grabbed something from behind him. "Action Figures!" A miniature version of Lucy stood in her battle stance. Max then pressed a button and all of her clothes fell off.
"What!" screamed Lucy. "You can't make that without my permission!" Erza and Gray smiled.
"Nothings the same" grumbled Natsu.
When they walked into the Guild Hall, Lucy noticed there were a couple of newcomers.
"Hey you guys are back!" said Levy when she noticed their group.
"Hey Levy," said Lucy. "I was wondering, who's that?" she pointed to a teenager with a striking blue jacket looking at the job requests.
"Oh," Levy scratched her head. "That's Makoto, I think. He joined a few days ago."
Makoto POV
I stared at the job board, looking for a job that paid well. I rented a small apartment next to the cathedral, so the rent was kind of expensive. I was also getting tired of eating grilled frogs all the time. A bandit problem in Flora? I considered. Nah, only 125,000 jewls. It had taken him a while to start saying jewls, instead of dollars. It was really embarrassing when he said dollars to a merchant, then realized he meant jewls. Catch a thief in Crocus. Worth….300,000 jewls! That would be enough to cover my rent for the rest of the year, with around—100,000 leftover.
"I'll take it!" I said to myself as I snatched the paper off the board.
"Are you sure?" asked a man with tan skin. He had black hair, with a bull cut of sorts. He was wearing a black vest, with his chest showing.
"Uh, yeah?" I said confused. Then I remembered who this was. It was that one character who never decided on a job.
"That's the hardest non-S-class quest, no one in the last month has taken it!" said the man.
"Eh, I think I'll be fine," I said as I walked out the guildhall. I heard the faint noise of Mira singing. So uh, I don't know how to get to Crocus. I said to Mike in my head. Fine, I take you there. But you really need to learn how to get places by yourself! chided Mike. I walked around a corner into an alleyway before activating my armor. I popped out my jetpack and blasted into the sky.
Ten minutes later, I dropped into an alleyway, deactivated my helmet, and threw up. A mountain of green sludge was piled on the ground. Do not go that fast, ever again! I said to Mike. But I thought you wanted to get back to the guildhall in time for the Fantasia Parade, and traveling from Magnolia to the capital would take at least a day. replied Mike sarcastically. Yeah, but that doesn't mean you have to go that fast! I sighed and checked the paper. Luckily, the paper didn't fall out of my hand while I was flying. I read the address, and that was when I realized it said the king's castle. Well, that's easy to find. I said as I deactivated my armor. I started walking up to the castle, recalling one of the funnier memories from my journey.
Ah, time to go to sleep. I told myself. I crawled into my shelter and crawled into my sleeping back. 30 minutes later, I woke up, and found a colony of ants decided to make a nest in my sleeping back.
"Ah!" I yelped in surprise and jumped out of the sleeping bag, then jumped into the nearby river. Mike never let me live that memory down.
I smiled at the memory and continued walking. Soon, I reached the castle and walked up to the nearest guard.
"Uh, hello," I said. "I'm here for the thief job." The man, clad in armor, took the sheet of paper from me, read it over, and nodded.
"Head on the stairs, and take the 3rd right. You'll see the vault master," said the guard. I left without a reply and followed his direction. You know he's the thief. I saw his heart rate rise slightly when you handed him the job post. said, Mike.I know, but I don't want to give that way. I replied. I opened the door to find a tall, thin elderly man, sitting at a mahogany desk. He had a huge bookshelf behind him, and a small lounge sat in front of the desk. It looked like a manager's office, minus the windows.
"Oh, you must be the wizard that accepted the job!" He exclaimed. "Follow me." He pressed one of the many bricks in the walls and revealed a secret tunnel, then gestured for me to follow him. As we walked, he talked about how desperate he was.
"At first, the thief only stole a few things. A coin here, a tiny jewel there. As the weeks passed by, he realized that the guards were too incompetent to find him, so he began stealing more stuff." He explained
"That's why the reward is so expensive?" I asked
"Yes, that's why," he replied. "Here we are. The hallway opened up, to reveal a massive door, with a deliberate amount of runes on it. "We keep on trying to add run a to stop the thief, but they don't seem to work," he said dejectedly.
"What's his magic?" I asked.
"According to my guards, he has some kind of invisibility magic," the man replied. "But not much else," He checked his lacrima watch. "Oh! It's almost noon! That's when the thief usually strikes," He handed me a key with his hand quivering. "Use this to get in the vault, but please catch this crook!" He then ran out of the room. Okay. I thought. I put the unlocked the door and slipped inside. I locked the door again, then looked for a suitable place to hide. There! I suggested to myself. Onto one of the wooden rafters on the ceiling. I heard footsteps coming from outside. I jumped up and concealed myself behind the wood. The door opened, to reveal no one. I activated my armor, then switched my visor to thermal vision. I had learned that the different visors in the armor were similar to goggles in real life. The thermal vision had saved my life more than once.
When it finally activated, I saw the guard I saw earlier and watched him as he looked around furtively before gathering all the jewls he could carry. I concentrated, then summoned a bow. I had met a bowman, who challenged me to a duel. I won of course, but I learned that the armor could copy other people's magic, but could only have four different magics copied at one time. I steadied my hand, then fired. The arrow got caught on the cloth covering his armor and drove him into a wall.
"Oof," he grunted as the thief tried to remove the arrow from the wall. I jumped down from the rafters and chanted:
"Magic Barrier. Self-Manipulation Mode!" A man suddenly appeared on the wall. I nocked another arrow.
"So, you either come with me, or there's going to be an arrow through your head," I said. He smiled as if he had a trick up his sleeve, but nothing happened.
"What!?" he gasped in surprise. He looked at me, terrified. "Ok! I surrender!" His face is priceless! laughed Mike. I prodded him to his feet and guided him into the manager's office. He was cowering behind his desk.
"It's okay, now sir!" I said. "I've caught the thief." He peeked his head over the desk.
"Wow, you actually did it!" he exclaimed. "What guild are you from?" I considered telling him, but instead, I lifted my left forearm and pulled down my sleeve. In the middle sat a white Fairy Tail logo.
"Oh," he said disappointedly. "I can't hire you again. Leave the thief to the guards outside. Oh, before I forget, here's your money." He slammed a very heavy bag full of jewls. I lifted the bag and swung it over my shoulders.
"Why can't you hire me again?" I asked.
"My boss wouldn't be too happy. He works for the Magic council." He replied.
"Oh right, they don't really like Fairy Tail," I muttered. While I was talking to the vault manager, the thief tried turning invisible, but I kneed him in the crotch and he collapsed to the floor like a bean bag. "Well, I'll be on my way," I picked up the thief by the arm, and dragged him outside. I was annoyed by the council. Their prejudices about our guild, destructive and reckless were really maddening.
"Hey you!" I called to the other guard. "Here's the thief!" I tossed the thief to the ground in front of him. I then activated my jetpack and zipped off. I decided to take the train home, so I landed at the station and deactivated my armor. I used jewls I had just earned to buy a train ticket to Haragon, then I flew from there to Magnolia. When I approached the city, I noticed a bunch of lighting lacrimas surrounding the city. So I made it back to the city before Erza destroyed the lacrimas. I thought. Of course, you did. said Mike. The job itself only took, like 20 minutes, and the travel time took a day, and the "Tournament" lasts for at least 4 hours.I remembered something about the tournament. You can't leave, but you can enter. I was a little tired, and really angry at the council, so I decided to sit this fight out. I landed in a secluded alleyway, only to find a barely conscious Gray. I quickly deactivated my armor and made it look like was running towards him.
"Hey Gray!" I waved as I ran towards him.
"Uh…." He grunted. "How long was I out?"
"I'm not sure," I replied. I just got back into town, I was doing a job. What's with the lightning lacrimas, and what's going on?" Gray quickly filled me in on what had happened.
"….and then Bickslow targeted a little girl in that window," he said while pointing to a window a couple of feet above us. "So I jumped in front to save her and got knocked out. He's going to pay for that!" He slammed his hands together and jumped up. "Where's Laxus?"
"Uh, the cathedral, I think," I said. "There was a lot of lightning coming from it. And fire. A lot of fire."
"So Natsu's fighting him?! I need to get there immediately!" Gray immediately jumped up and started sprinting towards the cathedral. I quickly followed him.
"So, where were you while we were fighting it out?" asked Gray.
"Uh," I hesitated. I had momentarily forgotten about my recent job since I was listening to Gray ranting about Bickslow for ten minutes straight. "I was in Crocus."
"What?! What were you doing there?" demanded Gray.
"The thief job," I replied.
"Huh? I thought nobody under S-class could do it?"
"Eh, it was probably because they found out that the thief was using invisibility mag-" I jumped to the side just before a stray lightning bolt struck the spot I was in.
"Well," said Gray. "Who's going to win?" I glanced up to see him staring at the smoking church.
"Natsu for sure," I said unconsciously.
"THAT'S IT!" Laxus bellowed from inside the building. A few seconds passed. "I invoke, FAIRY LAW!" Another few seconds passed The entire city was bathed in white light. I closed my eyes, smiling at what was just about to happen. When the light receded, not a single person around me was vaporized by the blast.
"What!?" exclaimed Laxus.
Gray POV
Gary noticed a limping Freed stumble into the cathedral.
"Where does he think he's doing?" wondered Gray. Ten seconds later, a loud boom could be heard. A hole appeared in the roof of the cathedral, and out flew Laxus. Natsu soon followed him. Laxus slammed Natsu into the side of a building, and the pink-haired mage was sent skidding into the roof. He ground his hands into the roof, stopping him. Laxus landed with a thud on the roof. Natsu shakily stood up.
"No, your no match for him," said Levy. It was only then Gray realized that Levy had come. He glanced to the side to see a wounded Gajeel, standing next to Levy, supporting a hurt Freed. Natsu's got no chance. Gray thought. When Laxus formed an electric spear and aimed it at Natsu, he took a step forward, prepared to run in when Natsu was defeated. A second later, the spear to a sharp right turn, and struck Gajeel.
"Go!" he yelled to Natsu as he fell to the ground. He doesn't really expect him to attack…right? Thought Gray. A moment later, Natsu was covered in flames and began to beat the hell out of Laxus.
"Fire Dragon Iron Fist!" he yelled. "Fire Dragon Wing attack! Fire Dragon Sword Horn!" Soon, the electric wizard collapsed onto the roof, unconscious.
[2 Hour Time Skip]
Normal POV
Boom! Bang! The Fantasia parade was in full swing. The sky was filled with bright, colorful fireworks. The music was blasting into the night. Makoto was running at the back of the crowd, trying to find a place to see. As he ran, he bumped into Laxus, and fell to the ground.
"Oh, sorry, Laxus!" apologized Makoto as he jumped up. Laxus grunted an apology. Just as he was about to turn and leave, he stopped. "Just so you know, you'll always be one of us." Then he continued to sprint down the street. Laxus smiled and continued walking. A few yards away, Makoto stopped and put up his left pointer finger into the sky. And with that, the day ended with fanfare and happiness.
