"What's the strangest sentence you can think of?" asked Ron, looking up from his homework. He had no idea of what he had just unleashed when he asked this.
"When was was was, was was is." answered Hermione. Harry snorted quietly.
"What?! That's not a sentence!"
"It is, actually." said Harry, also looking up from his homework. "It makes sense when you understand it."
"What does it mean, then?" snapped Ron. Harry answered him.
"A way of interpreting the sentence is 'When the past was the past, the past was the present.'. Basically, it means that the past was once considered the present." he said.
Hermione looked at him, beaming. "That's right!" she said.
Harry, sitting more straight, continued. "Using the same logic, you can also say 'When will be will be will be, will be will be is.'." Then, he blinked. "Wait..."
"Actually, this one doesn't work." said Hermione with an amused smile. "It can't because when 'Will be' will be 'Will be', 'Will be' will still be 'Will be'.
"What?" asked Ron. He was bloody confused.
"What Hermione is saying is that the future will still be the future in the future."
"The future is indefinite while the present is not. Also, the sentence say 'When will be will be will be,' so 'Will be' won't be 'Is' because it will still be 'Will be'!"
"What's another sentence that could work for the future, then?" asked Harry, frowning. "When will be will be is, will be will be will be?"
"I guess, in a way of speaking."
"You can also say 'When will be is was, was was was.'."
"Or 'When was was is, is was will be'."
"True. You can also say..."
Ron banged his head on his chair. What had he unleashed?
