So this story spawned from my own idiocy. I wore pair of wedges to my graduation and ended up with so many blisters on my feet that when I taped them all up at the end of the day my left foot was just one big plaster. Anyway, it gave me an idea for a chapter. Hope you like it.
They were all training for their next physical. As a team they were all pretty fit, they had to be to survive off-world, but they all still wanted to practice what was actually going to be on the test to make sure that they would all be able to pass without any issues.
Right now the four of them were running a lap around the mountain, as were quite a few of the other SG teams. They were running as a team although Daniel knew that they were all running slower than they were capable of making sure that he was ok.
"Nearly there," Jack said, "Half a lap more, then we're back at the entrance."
Teal'c, who was having the easiest time of all of them, his measured gate eating up the miles, nodded and the four of them kept running. Teal'c was out in front with Jack just behind him and Daniel behind him. Sam was running at the back, determined the keep up even though she was having issues of her own, but there was no chance she was going to let the guys know she was suffering.
They reached the entrance and sat down on the curb, all bare Teal'c breathing heavily.
"Time check," Daniel said.
Sam checked her watch. "We made good time," she said, "Well within the required time limit."
"Thank god," Daniel said, laying back and wheezing slightly, "Because that sucked. I'm glad that at least I can stay on the team and keep going off-world."
Jack patted him on the knee and then got to his feet. "Right, let's get back down and get cleaned up and then go grab some food," he said, "Then we can recover this afternoon and tomorrow before the testing the day after."
They all agreed and got to their feet. They didn't get far however before Jack noticed that Sam was limping. Rather than call her on it now in front of the rest of SG1 and the odd marine who had also finished their run and were heading back into the mountain, he decided to wait until they were more alone.
In the lift, which was slightly more crowded than anyone was overly comfortable with given how hot they'd all gotten running, Jack leant in close to Sam and whispered in her ear. "I need to talk to you alone."
"I'm fine sir," Sam said, knowing that she had been rumbled but trying to deny it.
"Now Carter," Jack whispered back.
Sam sighed. "I'm the only female out," she said, "The ladies locker room will be empty except for me."
Jack just nodded and stood back up straight. The two of them were at the back of the elevator so when it stopped they were the last out. They walked slowly to give everyone a chance to get ahead of them. The door to the male locker room swung shut behind the last person and Sam checked the corridor before the two of them headed into the ladies locker room.
While it was unlikely that anyone would come in, there was always a chance, so when they sat down they made sure that there was space between them. They knew the rumour mill in the mountain was nuts, if you wanted to get any information out the quickest way was to tell one of the nurses in confidence and it would be around the mountain before the end of the day, and they didn't want anyone to get the wrong idea if they happened to walk in.
Not that it was uncommon to find Jack, Daniel, or Teal'c for that matter, in the ladies locker room with Sam, but only when there was no one else present, and only when Sam was hurt in some way.
"So what's up?" Jack asked her.
"I got new shoes," Sam admitted, "My old training shoes were worn out and I didn't want them to fall apart during the testing and messing with my score so I thought I'd buy a new pair." She sighed. "I broke them in at home," she said, "I'm not an idiot."
"Never said you were," Jack muttered.
Sam smiled. "But obviously not enough."
"How bad is it Carter?" Jack asked.
"I don't know," Sam admitted, "But it's not feeling good right now."
"You better take them off then," Jack said, "So we can see the damage."
Sam giggled slightly at his choice of words but Jack just rolled his eyes in response.
She sighed and then began to unlace her shoes then, wincing with every movement, she started to pull off her shoes.
Once they were both off she and Jack gasped. "Well crap," Jack muttered.
"Yeah," Sam said, "This really doesn't look good."
"Nope."
Sam started to pull her socks off but then stopped when the pain got too much.
"Do you want a hand?" Jack offered, "If I pull them off for you it'll be done a lot quicker than you trying to do it."
Sam thought for a moment before she nodded reluctantly. Jack moved to sit beside her and then gestured for her to swivel so her feet were resting on his legs.
"Ready?" he asked.
Sam took a deep breath and nodded.
Quickly Jack pulled off one sock and then the other. Sam winced in pain and then whimpered slightly when she saw the state of her feet.
"Holy Hannah," Jack whistled, "Christ Carter, I have no idea how you kept running in this state."
Her feet were a mess of blisters and rubs. Thankfully there was no blood, but there was lots of serum from the blisters that had popped while she ran all over her feet.
"Tell you what," Jack said, "Do you think you can manage a shower?"
Sam nodded.
"Right then," Jack said, sliding her feet off his lap, "You go and do that and I'll go and do the same. Once we've done that, I'll come back over here and wrap your feet up for you ok."
Sam nodded happily. "Thank you, sir," she said, "For not making me go straight to the infirmary."
Jack shrugged. "It's not that bad," he said, "And I've got stuff in my locker that should help."
He got to his feet and then offered a hand to Sam. Gingerly she got to her feet, and then Jack let go of her hand. "See you in a bit Carter," he said.
"See you in a bit sir," he replied.
He left the room and headed across to the men's locker room. He slipped in, no one else in the room noticing him, or commenting on how far behind everyone else he was. He quickly grabbed his shower stuff, cleaned up, and then moved back to his own locker.
He nodded at the others as they all greeted him and went their own way. Daniel and Teal'c were done pretty quick and said about meeting for lunch in half an hour, they both had other things that they needed to do quickly first.
Jack waved them off and then once he was one of the few men left he left the room he grabbed what he needed from his locker, check that the corridor was clear, and then knocked on the door to the ladies locker room and letting himself in.
"You decent Carter?" he called in, keeping his eyes locked on the floor as he walked.
"Mostly sir," Sam called back.
"Mostly?" Jack asked.
"I don't have my pants on yet sir," Sam admitted.
"Ah," Jack said. He was so tempted to take a peek and couldn't help it as his eyes flicked up for a fraction of a second, finding Sam easily, before concentrating back on the floor. She was stood with her hair wrapped up in a towel and her BDU top on, but her long legs were bare and Jack got an eyeful.
He smiled to himself, that was a picture he wasn't going to forget in a hurry. "Do you want a hand Carter?" he asked, only half teasing.
"I'm good thanks sir," Sam replied.
He heard a few grunts and then Sam called over. "I'm decent sir."
He slowly looked up and saw that Sam was now dressed, although her hair was still up in a towel. She smiled at him and he smiled back.
"So what's the plan, sir?" Sam asked, sitting back down on the bench they'd been sat on earlier.
Jack held up his goodies. "An old trick I learnt a few years ago," he explained, "And it should mean that you're healed enough to be able to do everything the day after tomorrow."
"Oh good," Sam said, "I would have hated for all this practice to have been for nothing."
Jack sat next to her and pulled her feet up onto his lap. He lay out his kit on the bench beside him and grabbed the needle and the iodine he kept in his locker. He washed both his hands and the needle in rubbing alcohol and then turned to look at Sam.
"So the plan is," he explained, "I disinfect the skin around the blister, pop it with this needle and drain it, and then put petroleum jelly on the blisters and the other rubs and then I'll strap you up. They'll be tender for a few days, and you'll need to make sure that you keep them clean and dry, but you should be ok. I also grabbed these," Jack said, holding up some moleskins, "For you to use before the testing. Hopefully, they'll keep the worst of the pain away. Add some painkiller on top and you'll be your normal kick-ass self."
"Thanks, sir," Sam said with a smile.
She sat quietly as Jack went about popping and treating each blister and rub one at a time. Once they were all covered in the jelly he grabbed the bandages he'd brought with him as well as the padding. Carefully, with a great deal of care, he gently wrapped her feet.
"All done," he said eventually.
"Thank you, sir," Sam said.
Neither of them made to move or made a comment that Jack's hands were now resting on Sam's ankles, tracing tiny patterns. They stared at each other for a long moment then broke apart when they heard someone coming in through the door.
"Male present," Jack called as a warning.
"Yeah we know," Daniel called back, "We were coming to find you and Sam. You're late for lunch."
"Crap," Jack muttered before saying in a louder voice, "Sorry we lost track of time."
As Daniel and Teal'c cleared the door Jack pulled his hand away from Sam's feet like he'd been burnt.
"You ok Sam?" Daniel asked in a concerned voice when he saw the state of Sam's feet.
"Yeah," Sam answered, "All good now." She looked between Jack, Daniel and Teal'c and smiled. "Give me a minute to get my socks and boots on and then we can head to grab some food."
She slid her feet off of Jack's lap and onto the floor. She then reached and grabbed her boots and socks. She carefully rolled her socks onto her feet, making sure not to disturb the bandages that Jack had wrapped around her feet, and then reached down and unlaced her boots. Once the laces were loose enough for Sam to slip her feet into without it hurting she did and then tied them up, making sure they were tight enough that they wouldn't move around on her feet and create any more problems, but not so tight that she put too much pressure on her sore feet.
She then pulled the towel off her head, ran her fingers through her hair a few times to get it to lie the right way, and threw the towel towards the washing basket in the corner.
"Sorted," she said, getting to her feet, "Let's go eat."
The three men all nodded and they all headed out of the door and down the hallway towards the mess.
