Marinette walked back into the school building and Alya raced to her. "MARI! Explain!" Alya pushed her phone in Marinette's face. A picture of Marinette and Cat Noir was on her phone.
"Wha… How did you get that?" Marinette said as she pushed Alya's hand out of her face.
"Nino. He was walking back to school and he took the picture," Alya said, a goofy smile spread across her face. "Is Cat Noir your boyfriend?"
"Well… No, I mean… At least," Marinette couldn't form the sentence she wanted to say.
"OMG! Girl! You're dating Cat Noir!" Alya said a bit too loud. Almost everyone gathered around them.
"ALYA!" Marinette said, blushing. "I'm am not dating him…"
"Not ye-et!" Alya said, shaking her finger at Marinette. "You want to though!"
"Stop, please!" Marinette said, dying with blush.
"You know, you really liked Adrien but you gave him up for an alley cat," Chloe said. Adrien's head poked up, curious. Why had he not known this before meeting Marinette on her balcony? Clearly everyone knows that she had a crush on him…
"Hey! He is not an alley cat! More like a cute kitten…" Marinette said, half daydreaming.
Lila walked forward and put her arm around Marinette. "I totally agree with your relationship…" Her tone was cold. Lila walked Marinette into the bathroom. "Thanks for moving on." Lila said.
"I didn't move on for you," Marinette shot.
"I know you didn't, but that leaves Adrien up for grabs," Lila said. "You were the hardest to get rid of. You, Ms. Googly-Eyes, have always been close to Adrien, but now I have the chance to take him."
"Lila, Adrien is not up for grabs, ya know," Marinette said. "You have to win him over."
"Yeah, yeah. I'll just lie my way in," Lila said. She pushed Marinette down and walked out. Marinette pushed up and broke into tears. She didn't know why. It just happened. Her heart pounded in her chest and she snuck into the locker room. She knew what she had to do.
She pulled off her earrings and said, "Tikki, Alya is not to know I am Ladybug…" Marinette placed her earrings in Alya's locker. "After I am cooled, bring the earrings back."
"Yes, Marinette," Tikki said, with a tiny nod. Marinette strode out of the locker room. She had only decided last night to move on from Adrien, how could she be ready to share her feelings for Cat Noir to all of Paris?! Anger almost immediately started pumping through her veins. Lila didn't deserve Adrien, and Alya should know to ask Marinette in private.
"Arrg!" Mariette knew right away why she had started crying- she still had feelings for Adrien, but her feelings for Cat Noir fell over the top. And she had only decided a few minutes ago her feelings for Cat Noir were even real.
Hawkmoth could sense the growing anger and sent an akuma to the heart-sick girl. The akuma landed on Marinette's signature hand bag and sinked in. "Breaker, you don't know what you are feeling, but I give you the power to choose and to break the heart of anyone who gets in your way. All I ask is that you bring me Ladybug and Cat Noir's miraculous."
Marinette couldn't hear what anyone was saying. She briefly heard the shout of Adrien and Nino, but she didn't care. Her heart pounded in her ears as she said, "Yes, Hawkmoth."
A few seconds before…
Alya snuck in the locker room to see what Marinette was doing, but she missed it. Marinette had walked out. But, Alya's locker was cracked open. Alya quickly walked to the open locker and saw a pair of earrings in her locker- red with black polka-dots. "Aren't these Ladybug's..?" Alya picked up the earrings and a kwami flew out.
"I am Tikki. Alya, Ladybug needs your help. You've seen her fight plenty of times, just say, 'Spots on.'" The kwami flew side to side worried. "Ladybug couldn't get away from her civilian life, and so being Ladybug kinda wasn't a choice."
"Okay," Alya said, putting the earrings on. She stepped out and saw an akumatised person, and she was sure it was Marinette because of her. She retreated back into the locker room and shouted, "TIKKI! SPOTS ON!" A slightly familiar tingle went up her body that she had only felt a few times before. This time though, it was a little stronger.
Cat Noir watched for his always expected partner. Ladybug almost always showed up before him. A girl who looked like Ladybug plopped down next to him. "You... You aren't Ladybug." Cat Noir had stated the obvious.
"No, I'm not. I'm Doublebug, the second choice if Ladybug can't get away from her civilian life," the new superhero said.
"Well, Doublebug, you know how this works, right?"
"Yes." The two then lept away to deakumatised Marinette.
"Pound it," the two superheroes said, fist-bumping. Then, Cat Noir turned his attention to Marinette who was holding her head while kneeling on the ground.
"Princess? Are you okay," Cat Noir said setting a hand on Marinette's shoulder.
Marinette immediately threw her arms around him and said, "Now I am." Doublebug smiled a little, took a picture and jumped away.
"Spots off," Alya said, she took the earrings off and handed them to the kwami. "Give these to Ladybug, and tell her thank you."
"Yes," Tikki nodded and flew away. Alya pulled out her phone and looked at the picture of Marinette and Cat Noir.
"They seem so perfect for each other, even more perfect than Marinette and Adrien," Alya said to no one in particular and walked away.
