From the corners of her eyes, she watched as Kal took orders from another table. She watched him for a bit right before she heard a commotion near her. She turned to look and noticed a man, who was obviously drunk, harassing the other waitress there.
"Come now sweetheart. Don't be like that," the man was saying, his words slurring as he tried to grab the woman's arm.
"I'm sorry but you are being inappropriate, Sir," The waitress said as she tried to move away from him.
"I am not being inappropriate! I am just trying to talk to you!" The man snapped out defensively.
Marie was annoyed at the man's behavior. So she said out loud, "Can you just stop bothering her?! You are obviously making her uncomfortable!"
"And who the hell are you?" The man asked her.
"Oh, I am just another one who is tired of your obnoxious behavior," she said to him.
"Why you little brat!" The man said angrily.
He suddenly grabbed a hold of her gloved arm and Marie nearly tipped over her stool. She tried to snatch her arm back from him but all it did was for the drunken man to unexpectedly peel off her glove from her entire left arm, which exposed her deadly skin.
Marie became alarmed. Even more so when the man threw her white glove on the ground and tried to grab for her exposed arm once again.
However, before the man could grab her by the arm, another large hand snatched her arm away while she was pushed behind a tall, familiar figure.
Marie's face instantly drained of color when she felt the waiter's hand - Kal's hand - holding her exposed arm as he stood in front of her in defense against the drunken man.
"I believe it's time for you to leave, Sir. Your inappropriate behavior is not welcome here." Kal said to the inebriated man while Marie remained frozen on the spot. Still in shock about what was happening and the hand touching her arm at that moment.
"And what if I don't leave? What are you going to do about it?"
Marie could hear the man say in challenge.
Meanwhile, she was waiting for Kal to start feeling the effects of touching her skin but to her consternation, Kal remained standing, like he was unaffected by her deadly skin at all.
"Then, I will have to force you to leave," she heard Kal reply to the man and that was also the moment Marie tried to get her arm out from Kal's firm grip.
Without glancing in her direction, he finally released her arm. Kal's attention was still riveted on the drunk man.
"You fucker!" The man shouted furiously while he tried to throw a bottle of liquor at Kal, who simply evaded it in a flash of movement.
The glass shattered against the table nearby while some people shouted in surprise.
Marie stared at Kal with renewed interest. She was still surprised to see Kal without showing any effects even after touching her bare skin.
As she continued to stare at him, she began to sense something strange within her.
There was a prickling sensation all over her skin.
Then, all of a sudden, she could hear a masculine voice saying in her mind, "Act normal. Don't let anyone suspect anything. Just be an ordinary human."
The voice said repeatedly, like a secret mantra inside her head.
And to her growing curiosity, the voice sounded like Kal, which confused her because she never saw Kal open his mouth to say those things while he dealt with the drunk driver in that instant.
She watched in complete silence when the truck driver tried to punch Kal, who just stepped to the side to avoid the attack.
The voice inside her head was not the only thing that was odd. Because without warning, her eyes started to itch something fierce.
She instantly rubbed at her eyes just as her vision began to do something strange. She blinked a few times but it seemed to make it worse. Then, to her growing horror, her vision seemed to penetrate through the people's bodies and provided her images of their internal organs, muscles, and skeleton within.
It felt like she was seeing everything with an x-ray vision. Other than that, her hearing suddenly started to pick up sounds acutely. The noise became far too much for her and the bright lights started to become glaring to her sensitive eyesight.
It felt like her senses were overloaded by too much stimuli at once.
There was a loud crash somewhere to her left that sounded more like an explosion in her ear drums. She tried to close her eyes but even that didn't stop her from seeing what was occurring around her. It seemed that she could see through everything now.
She could see Kal dragging the drunk man out while other customers looked on. She also began to see the tiny details of her surroundings now, even to its microscopic level.
It looked like she had gained a couple of abilities for some strange reason and she didn't know where it came from.
Completely overwhelmed, she leaned forward and tried to grip the edge of the bar, but it gave out beneath her hands with a loud groan. The wood was pulverized when she looked at it.
It appeared that Marie had become super strong as well. Fortunately, the people were far too busy looking at Kal and the drunk man that they didn't notice her at all.
Soon the noise and the view were increasingly becoming unbearable.
She needed to get out of there fast. So without thinking more on it, she ran towards the door but she didn't expect how fast she had become as well.
She only realized this when she barreled right through the door and broke through the door's hinges and straight at Kal, who was about to enter the bar.
She accidentally crashed into him, which sent Kal flying into thin air and straight into a parked truck, where he crashed into.
However, to her relief, Kal remained unscathed despite terribly denting the truck.
By now, people were gaping at her and reacting in shock at the scene she had caused.
Meanwhile, Kal looked stupefied as he tore himself from the man-size hole he had just made on the truck.
Marie hurried towards him and pleaded, "Please help me! I don't know what is going on with me!"
Kal must have realized the direness of her situation because to her immense relief, he took hold of her arm again and said, "I will. Just calm down and follow me."
Feeling scared and still overwhelmed by her environment, Marie followed after him until they were far away from the gaping crowd of people, who had started coming out of the bar to watch them.
When they were alone and away from prying eyes, Kal turned back to face her and asked, "Now, tell me what is going with you?"
"My vision, my hearing and everything else is getting far too much to bear!" Marie told him with her eyes closed. "Even when I close my eyes I can see your insides and hear pretty well even from afar. I don't know what is going on! This hasn't happened to me before! I think…I think this is only happening because you touch me! Please help me Kal!''
She babbled hysterically while tears slid down her cheeks.
"And I will help you. Just try to calm down for a bit." Kal said to her in an assuring tone.
"I'm trying to calm down!" She snapped while she opened her eyes to glare at him.
To her terror, her eyes began to heat up when she looked up at Kal and he must have seen something in her eyes because he suddenly said, "Stop glaring Marie or you're going to -"
Kal didn't get to finish his sentence because twin lasers suddenly shot out from her eyes.
Kal ducked away in time while Marie's laser vision ended up going straight towards the smashed truck where it immediately exploded.
Afterward, Marie hurriedly closed her eyes but the damage was already done.
She had just caused a truck to explode and she was certain that there might be some people who were harmed from the resulting explosion.
"Time to go!" Kal said quickly when he saw the blazing inferno that ignited in the parking lot.
Thereafter, Marie found herself being lifted up into Kal's arms right before they shot into the skies.
