A Nemesis Returns.

Quiet looked at the floor sadly, she just had her first argument with her daughter. She spent so much time trying to protect her daughter, but now Jill was beginning to reject her help, after Quiet explained to her that sometimes to assure ones survival, one would need to take the life of someone who was not an enemy. Quiet would kill anyone if it meant keeping her daughter safe, but she wasn't sure if she was prepared for her only child to hate her for it. Jill had stormed of to fix the power, leaving Quiet to look at the dead body of the dead U.B.C.S. soldier. She noticed something on him. She took it out and saw it was a training log. So she decided to read it.

July 10th

202 lbs / 12 laps of the yard / 2 circuits

Suck it, prison! The Umbrella Corporation just recruited me for a job. A JOB! Don't know how they're gonna wipe out a life sentence for murdering twenty gangbangers, but whatever. I'll take it. Beats shitting away the rest of my days behind bars.

I gotta get back into shape.

Murdering rapists is something Quiet would do if she ever met one. Well one tried to rape her, but she smashed his crotch with her boot. Still this poor man would've been better of in prison than being sent here. Quiet read the next entry.

July 26th

196 lbs / 20 km run / 3 circuits

Target practice at 400 yds, 5 misses

Caught the chain yesterday and got moved to a U.B.C.S. training camp, where I fired my first bullet in two whole years. Missed a stationary target by 5 inches at 400 yards—I never fucking do that! It's like I forgot everything.

Doesn't matter. I'll get sharp again. Watch me.

Quiet shook her head and read the next one.

August 15th

190 lbs / 30 km run / 3 circuits

Target practice at 600 yds, 2 misses OK, I've got my shot grouping down to 3 inches. Feeling good, feeling good. After lunch, they put me through my first mock battle. The cap and the other guys are good people, and goddamn beasts of war at that, but what the fuck is up with that lunatic Nicholai? He used me a fucking human shield just to score some extra points.

Quiet narrowed her eyes at that. Was Nicholai the man who shot him? If so, he could be a danger. She reads the last one.

September 25th

181 lbs / 30 km run / 4 circuits

Target practice at 600 yds, no misses

Murphy's back, baby! You'll never see ME miss another target. Tomorrow I go on my first mission: riot control in Raccoon City. I think Jimmy would've liked that. My brother was always the first to reach out and help people, right up until those street punks took him away from me. Now it's my turn to do some good for a change—the way I know best.

Quiet looked at the dead Murphy "I'm sorry...".

She puts the log back before getting up to find Jill. Right now she didn't care if Jill was still mad at her, she needed to make sure Jill was safe. As for Jill, she finds a richly decorated box in the dead body's hands. When she picks up the box, the corpse's belly explodes and the larvae come out.

"Oh my god" She said in shock and disgust opens the box and finds a rusty lockpick.

When she picks the lock down the hall, a green insect like monster attacks her from above. It grabs Jill by the neck and was about to put it's sprout in her mouth. But a knife hits it in the head, making it fall down on the ground, letting go of Jill. She looks and sees Quiet storm up to the monster before stomping on it so hard it's body splattered from the force. Jill saw the rage in Quiet's eyes, and it was clear she wanted to do more to the creature.

"Umm... thank you" Jill said.

Quiet's eyes softened when she looked at her "You ok? I'm sorry for taking so long. I figured you needed some space... but now that I think about it. It was really stupid of me, since being alone in this city is very dangerous".

"I'm fine, and you were right, I did need space to cool of. I'm sorry for what I said. I do trust you, I just don't like the idea of shooting someone who hasn't turned yet" Jill explained.

"I understand. I just hope you are ready for it. Some people won't give you a choice when it's either you or them. And I don't want to lose you" Quiet said but realized she said a little to much.

"Lose me? Ok enough of this, why am I so important to you?" Jill asked.

Quiet sighed "I really put my foot in my mouth. Alright, I will tell you. But only once we're in a safer place. This is not the time or place for an explanation like that".

"Fair point. Let's get going then" Jill said.

Quiet nods and they head inside. They spend some time activating four circuits, killing more insects along the way. Luckily with Quiet's help, Jill had no problems dealing with them, even saving some amo along the way. With only the main power switch remaining, they head to the substation's central control panel. Jill pressed a button on the control panel, it destroys a beast that is sitting on an electric tower.

"Enjoy that" Jill said before she calls Carlos "Carlos, it's Jill. I've restored power to the subway".

"Nice going! Next up is the traffic control system. It should be in the subway company's offices" Carlos said.

"Right, I think I know the building" Jill said.

"Really? Way to go, partner. One step ahead!" Carlos praised.

"Not your partner" Jill corrected before hanging up "Ready?".

"I think he likes you" Quiet said with a teasing smile. Carlos didn't seem like a bad guy, so she felt she could trust him.

"Maybe... but I'm not sure if I am ready for the love life yet" Jill admitted.

"No one ever truly is, until they take the step" Quiet said.

"Can we just get out of here first? Then we can worry about my dating life" Jill said as she was starting to blush. Quiet chuckled but they continued on anyway.

As soon as she goes out on the street, a wall burst open. Both women got wide eyes as the monster from before was back. A direct hit from a rocket launcher, and he was still alive and didn't even seem to be that injured from what happened to him earlier. Making it very clear he was indeed a far greater threat than the tyrants that came before him. He glared at the two women, and it was clear he remembered them both. Jill was his target, and Quiet was in his way.

"S.T.A.R.S.!" He spoke in a dark tone as he began walking towards the two women.

"Are you shitting me!?" Jill asked out loud as she aimed her gun at him.

"Don't waste your amo! I got him!" Quiet said, ready for a rematch against the monster "I am ready for him this time!".

Nemesis roars and charges at Quiet, who leaps over him and kicked him in the back of the head. He staggered but quickly recovered and goes to grab Quiet, but she avoided his attempt and kicks him in the leg before kicking him in the face making him fall on his back. Jill was amazed, wondering how the hell this woman was able to go head to head with that monster. Quiet's enhancements were the only reason she could do it. Had she faced Nemesis back when she was a normal human, she would've been dead already.

"Jill! Get out of here!" Quiet ordered.

Jill hesitated, not wanting to leave Quiet to face that monster alone again "But-".

"GO! I will catch up latter!" Quiet said as Nemesis got back up.

Jill cursed but decided to trust Quiet on this. She already survived one encounter with the monster, so hopefully she could again. With Jill not around to distract her, Quiet could focus on fighting Nemesis. She had learned from her last fight with him. Fighting him head on would not end well, and her superior combat skills would only prolong the inevitable. She would lose in the end, so she needed a better strategy. Punches and kicks werent going to do the trick, and he has already survived being hit by several different kinds of weapons. Quiet needed something that packed more of a punch.

Nemesis glares at her for a moment before he picks up a nearby car, ready to smash it over her. Quiet smiled, that was a bad move on his point. Pulling out a gun she kept hidden, she focused her aim and shot the fuel tank, causing the car to explode. Nemesis groans as the fire burned him, before Quiet runs forward and delivers the hardest kick she could muster, causing Nemesis to stumble and fall on a nearby electrical box. He roared in pain as the electricity tore through his body before he went limb. Quiet walked up to make sure he was dead. But kept her guard up just in case.

She remembered the reports on the tyrant Ahab faced. There were several times Ahab believed the tyrant was dead, only for it to come back like nothing happened. These things were hard to put down, so one could never be to careful when it came to them. As she got close Nemesis suddenly kicked her in the chest, sending her flying in to a nearby car. She held her chest before looking up to see Nemesis getting back up. He glared at her, but what he did next surprised her. He used his tentacles to pull himself on to a building and left.

"Wait, he's retreating?" Quiet wondered out loud. Was this Monster smart enough to know when to retreat so he could lick his wounds? Or maybe he was going after Jill!

Quiet rushed in the direction Jill headed. She remembered the building Jill was heading to and ran towards it as quickly as she could... only to nearly run in to Jill, causing them both to nearly fall from the sudden encounter.

"Fucking hell! You scared the shit out of me!" Jill said while holding her chest.

"Are you alright? Have that monster attacked you?" Quiet asked.

"I'm fine, I haven't seen that thing since you decided to deal with it. But never mind me, are you alright? You faced that monster alone" Jill said.

"A little bruised up but I'm fine. The monster left after I managed to cause some damage to it... this honestly worries me. That monster is not only more powerful than the others we've faced, but it is smarter too" Quiet explained.

"Meaning he has knowledge in basic tactics. But how does it keep finding us?" Jill asked.

"Best guess is that he has some form of tracking ability. Like a blood hound. If that is te case he will keep coming until he kills us" Quiet answered.

"Great, just perfect" Jill said in annoyance.

"All the more reason for us to leave. I doubt we are equipped to defeat him like this" Quiet said.

Jill nodded in agreement and they kept moving, while keeping an eye out for the monster, who was more than likely still hunting them. Little did they know, Nemesis was indeed watching them from the distance. He had lost a battle, and once again failed to kill his target. But this killer wasn't even close to done yet. He had only one goal, and he wouldn't stop until completes it. And anyone who gets in his way, will die.

"S.T.A.R.S.".

While all that was going on, Solid Snake was on his own mission. Locate any survivor that could help bring down Umbrella. When he arrived in the city he didn't expect everything to go insane so quickly. Zombies were everywhere, and the chances of finding someone still alive had grown more slim. He carefully made his way through the streets before entering a garage. He hears something inside the back of a truck. Someone was in there, so he walked up and knocked on it, earning a scared yell from inside.

"Get away!" Came the voice of Dario Rosso.

"Sir, I am here to help. Open up" Snake said.

"Fuck of! You are just another thief, looking to steal my safe house! Now leave!" Dario shouted.

"You are just waiting to die in there, you are not any safer in there than anywhere else" Snake said.

"Like I already told that cop bitch. I'm not going anywhere! I'd rather starve to death in here than be eaten by one of those undead-monsters! Now leave me alone!" Dario shouted again.

"Cop? Where is she?" Snake demanded.

"Probably dead! Serves her right for being stupid enough to go out there! Now leave me alone already!" Dario said.

Snake narrowed his eyes before putting his hand on the door "I am planting a small explosive. You can either come out of there now, or I will blow you out. You have until the count of three, One".

"Go away!" Dario demanded.

"Two..." Snake continued counting.

"You are insane! Fine! I'm coming out!" Dario said as he finally got out of the truck.

"Now that wasn't so hard now was it? Now tell me all about this cop lady you saw" Snake said.

"I don't know her! She just kept insisting I'd go with her out there. But I already lost my wife and daughter, and I refuse to die like they did!" Dario said.

"Wife and daughter? What happened to them?" Snake asked.

"Non of your business" Dario said, but Snake noticed some guilt in his eyes.

Snake glared in to his eyes "What, happened?".

Dario looked scared "Fine! We were trying to reach a safehouse together but we encountered some zombies... I freaked out and screamed, which only attracted them to us. We ran but on the way my wife hurt her ankle and fell. My daughter stayed behind to help her, but I was so driven by panik I just kept running and even locked a gate behind me... I could hear them both screaming as I just ran away... I left my family to die... that is why I don't want to die like they did".

Snake got angry when he heard that, this man left his family to die just to save himself? He grabbed Dario roughly "Listen here fat bag. You are coming with me. I will get you out of here so you can tell the world everything you saw here. And you better pray that you don't end up in a cell for what you did".

"You're insane! Let me go!" Dario protested as Snake dragged him along with him.

"Shut up! Or I will make you shut up" Snake warned as he dragged Dario outside. Not many zombies were around, but Dario still screamed, causing Snake to elbow him in the gut "Idiot! Now they know we're here!".

The zombies advanced towards them and Snake quickly took out his gun and began shooting them in their heads. One zombie got close but Snake kicked it down and shot it in the forehead. But in the madness, Dario panicked and tried to run away.

"Idiot! Stay close to me!" Snake shouted before he had to defend himself against another zombie.

Dario didn't listen as he kept running, only for his thigh to get cut open by a long tongue. He screamed in pain as he fell to the ground, clutching his bleeding thigh. He looked up to see a red monster with it's brain exposed and a long tongue. The Licker hissed before leaping at him and his cry of agony echoed through the area as he was brutally torn apart.

"Damn it!" Snake said, making the Licker turn it's attention to him.

The Licker crawled up a wall before launching it's tongue towards Snake. But his reflexes were sharp enough to allow him to grab the Licker's tongue and pulled it down hard. He the quickly took out his combat knife, and stabbed the licker's exposed brain. He kept the knife inside it's brain until the licker stopped moving.

He pulled the knife out before looking at Dario's shredded body "You should've stayed close to me. You would've had a better chance at surviving if you did".

Snake sighs, he was ordered to find survivors, but he just lost one. With no other choice, he continued his search through the infested city. This mission just keeps getting worse. At this rate he would never find any survivors that could help bring Umbrella down. But he couldn't leave until he had made sure that no one else was around.

Little did he know, he wasn't the only one who had been sent to the city to collect things. And unlike him, these people were not looking for survivors so they could save them... but to silence them, and make sure nothing that can incriminate Umbrella leaks outside the city.

These people were working for Umbrella. And they were also determined to complete their mission. Not matter the cost.
