A Train Wreck.
To say Jill's mind was all over the place would be an understatement. She had been running all over town, being hunted by that monster, who's name appeared to be Nemesis. Then she barely avoids being shot in the head by one of Umbrella's assassins, who made sure she understood that he would not spare her if they ever meet again. After that she once again had to run from Nemesis, until she finally realized that trying to outrun him wouldn't work, and decided to fight him. With some last minute help from Quiet, both women were managed to defeat Nemesis, and finally killed him. Leaving his corps burning on a destroyed roof top... but after that, Quiet dropped a massive emotional bomb. Quiet... was Jill's long lost mother.
But Jill had to take care of something real quick "Carlos, it's Jill. Do you read me?".
"Loud and clear. You alright?" Carlos asked over the radio.
"Yeah... Bastard's dead. And I found our friend, she's safe" Jill said as she glanced at Quiet, who was currently living up to her name.
"Good. Fuck 'im. And I'm glad our friend didn't get herself killed while rushing after you. But what were you thinking, turning yourself into bait? You could've been killed" Carlos said.
"Don't start, I've already had an earful for that. I did what I had to..." Jill said in a tired tone.
"I know. And, uh… thanks. The subway's ready to go. Hurry back" Carlos said before they ended the call.
"Jill..." Quiet began, not knowing what to say.
"All these years..." Jill whispered.
"Jill I-" Quiet tried to put a hand on Jill's shoulder, only for her daughter to pull back as she turned to face her.
"Do you have any fucking clue what you put me through!? Do you have ANY idea how lonely I've been!? I spent years waiting for you! Years of hoping that you would come back! But you never did! I waited and waited, but you never came back! I was beginning to believe that you were gone. I even convinced myself that you must be dead, because I did not want to believe that my mother simply chose to not come back. But now... Here you are, standing right in front of me. After so many years of trying to move on, I find out you've been alive this entire time!" Jill shouts in anger and pain.
"Jill, please understand. What I did, was for you" Quiet said.
"Oh don't start with that bullshit! This isn't some kind of Hollywood movie where a parent does stupid shit just to protect their child. If you really wanted make me happy, all you had to do was be in my life! Watch me grow up! Show me that you actually cared about me. But you didn't! You left me alone because you couldn't be bothered with me! And now you are back and acting like a protective mother? Why is that? Just to soothe your own guilt? Why bother coming back at all if you couldn't be bothered with it before?!" Jill shouts... before suddenly falling to the ground after receiving a hard slap.
Jill looked up in shock as Quiet glares down at her "You don't know anything about me. You have no idea of the pure agony I went through. When I gave birth to you, I was both happy and terrified. I was happy to have a beautiful child such as yourself. But I was an assassin, Jill. I made many dangerous enemies, and I was practically owned by dangerous people. People who wouldn't think twice about using you against me, either for revenge or just to keep me in line. I sacrificed my only hope at a normal life. I sacrificed a life I wanted to spend watching you grow... all to make sure you would grow up at all. I trapped myself in hell, so you could live!".
Jill rubs her cheek, but couldn't say anything.
"After a while... I made new friends. Friends who cared about me, who gave me a goal worth fighting for. They helped me more than I could ever hope to repay. Thanks to them... I even got a chance to visit you... I visited you when you slept... and I wanted to stay with you so badly... I wanted to finally have the chance to be a mother... but there were still far to many enemies left, and I already to a massive risk just by being there. But I swore, once things calms down, I could finally talk to you, to explain why I hadn't been in your life... but I was faced with a choice, a choice that should've killed me... but Umbrella found me. They experimented on me, curing me of the reason I was named Quiet. And when I woke up, several years had passed. I learned you were now a grown woman, and I had missed my chance to be the one to raise you... And not only that, all the friends I made is either dead, or missing... I lost everything I worked so hard to build... you are all I have left now. And I will be in a burning pit of hell before I lose you too" Quiet finished explaining.
Jill was silent but could hear silent sobs coming from her mother. She stood up before giving Quiet a hug. It surprised her, but she quickly hugged back.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry Jill" Quiet whispered.
"It's... it's ok mom... I'm sorry too... I was selfish, I never considered the pain you must've been going through... But you are here now, and you will stay this time, right? After all this, I have made my own fair share of enemies, so I will be a lot safer if you stick around" Jill said.
Quiet smiled "Yes. I am not going anywhere this time. I have years to make up for. And you would probably not last to long without me anyway, given your lack luster fighting style".
"Oh fuck you. If I suck at fighting that much, maybe you could give me some pointers" Jill said.
"That is a good idea. Once we get out of this city, I will whip your ass in to shape" Quiet declared.
"Ew! Mom!" Jill said with a small laugh.
"Oh you know I didn't mean it like that. Besides, mothers spanks their kids all the time if they misbehave" Quiet said, wondering if Jill's father had a dirty mind... now she hopes Jill don't ask about her father.
Thankfully she didn't, and the two women continued on their way back to the station. They enter a gun shop and takes the last remaining ammunition from the shelves, when suddenly the owner of the store jumps at her with a crazy look and a shotgun.
"Don't move! Shit… Jill" The man said as he lowers his shotgun.
"Kendo. You're alright" Jill said with a smile.
"Yeah well, alright's a stretch. Sorry I got a little jumpy there. Didn't know quite what to expect" The man named Kendo said.
"No shit" Jill said in agreement.
"Who's your friend?" Kendo asked.
Before Quiet could answer, Jill spoke "She's my mom".
Quiet was both surprised but also touched that Jill was openly acknowledging her as her mother, rather than trying to hide that fact. It already felt like their bond had grown stronger.
"You mom? Damn, the years sure has been kind to her. She barely looks any older than you" Kendo said.
"I do look good for my age, don't I?" Quiet joked a little.
"Well I can only hope I inherit those genes from you" Jill said before looking at Kendo "Look, we're using the subway to get people out of town. You in?".
"Subway. Well... That's good thinking" Kendo said in a uncertain tone as he glanced at a door.
"When we get out there's gonna be a lot to do. We could use a man of your skillset. What's wrong?" Jill asked as she put a hand on Kendo's shoulder.
"Nothin'. Just uh... Just bad timing is all. Look, um… don't worry about me. I'm gonna make other arrangements. OK?" Kendo said as he began to walk away.
"You better. You're the best gunsmith around" Jill said with a smile.
Kendo smiled back "Oh, no".
"Don't do anything stupid" Jill said.
"Oh that's-, that's your job, right? Take care, Jill" Kendo said as he goes into the basement and locks the door behind him "If you're heading to the station, take that service alley out in front of the shop, OK? The key's hanging on the wall".
Jill grabs the key before looking at Quiet "Do you know what's wrong with him?".
"Does he have a family?" Quiet asked.
"Yes, a daughter at least" Jill answered.
Quiet got a sad look as she glanced at the closed door, she could hear faint sounds coming from it "Then I have a pretty good idea".
"Wait you mean... oh no..." Jill said in a sad tone.
Quiet sighs "He is experiencing the one thing no parent wants to. Come on Jill... it's time to leave".
"Right..." Jill said as they leave.
They used the key to unlock a gate and they continue on. They enter a building and decides to take some time to look for supplies. Quiet finds something and decides to read it.
Dear Editor,
I'm writing to you because I am troubled, deeply troubled. Anyone who's been a parent knows that Crystal Promenade is THE place to take your kids for a trip downtown on Saturdays. And there's no store more popular (or harder on a parent's wallet) than Toy Uncle. However, I've noticed that on windy days, the big statue above the entrance wobbles like, the only thing holding it up is couple of screws.
If that statue's head tumbles loose on a busy day, children will be badly hurt. I've complained to the manager three times now, but he just isn't willing to rectify the situation.
Are we supposed to wait for a terrible accident to happen before taking action? No. If heads are going to roll, then let it be the manager's. Take that death trap down.
—Timothy Wyles.
Quiet sighs and they head back outside. There's a nasty surprise waiting for her outside. Nemesis is very much alive. He jumps off a roof holding a huge suitcase. He drops it on the ground, causing it to open up... and he then pulls out a new weapons. One that was much more dangerous than his Flame thrower.
"A rocket launcher? Really!?" Jill wondered in disbelief.
"Run!" Quiet shouts as she grabs Jill's arm and pulls her along. Quiet was not stupid, she wasn't going to try to fight Nemesis head on while he was holding a rocket launcher with a laser pointer. She knew she could not beat him this time.
They run down a narrow alleyway, barely avoiding Nemesis barrage of rockets. They even had to knock a few zombies to the side. Quiet even grabbed a zombie and threw it at one of the incoming rockets, causing it to be blown apart. They continued running until a rocket blew up a car and they had to throw themselves to the side to avoid it landing on them.
"Jill, you OK?" Carlos asked over the radio.
Jill quickly grabbed her radio "Carlos, that monster's on our asses again!".
"Are you shitting me? I thought you killed it!" Carlos said.
Jill looks up to see Nemesis leap on top of a ambulance "Me too!".
Having gained the high ground, Nemesis fires rockets at the two women who had to run quickly to stay out of his aim. But Quiet noticed a rocket was heading straight for Jill. She hurries to grab her and used her own body to shield Jill from the explosion. But the blast sent both of them flying.
Jill recovers from the landing as quickly as she could "Mom! Are you alright!?".
"Don't worry about me! We need to keep moving!" Quiet said as she pushed through the pain and stood up.
"Jill, you there? I think I know how to slow that fucker down. Head back toward the station!" Carlos said.
"And lead him right to you?" Jill asked in worry.
"It's OK. Trust me!" Carlos insisted.
"We need to listen to him Jill. Leading that monster away won't work. If Carlos has an idea, then it's worth a shot" Quiet said.
Jill nods, she knew Nemesis wouldn't stop hunting them unless they kill him, so she hoped Carlos' plan works. As they run Nemesis shoots a rocket at a giant mustache head on the roof of a Toy Uncle store and it rolls right towards them, forcing them to avoid it before they continued on. Finally they saw Carlos waving to them.
"This way!" He shouts and they run towards him.
As they run, another rocket hits the ground behind them, knocking them down. Quiet pulls Jill back up as they followed Carlos. Nemesis was hot on their trail, bu didn't notice the bomb Carlos had planted. The explosion sent Nemesis flying in to a truck, stunning him for a few moments.
"Hey, you OK?" Carlos asked the women before Nemesis glares at them "GO… GO!"
Carlos fires at Nemesis while Jill shouts at him "C'mon! Forget about him!".
They enter the building leading to the underground station. Jill began closing the gate but Carlos noticed a tanker truck and quickly fired at the tank. It still had gass in it, so it triggered a massive explosion, which knocked them down and dented the gate. Nemesis was in the direct center of the explosion. They could only hope he was finally dead now.
"C'mon. Let's get out of here" Carlos said before they headed down the hallways.
"Carlos, I know we didn't get off to a great start, but… thanks for the save" Jill said.
"Hey, you saved my ass first. You're a hell of a lot braver than me" Carlos assured.
"You are wrong on that, Carlos. You saved Jill from that monster while I was busy recovering from having been beaten up by it. We both owe you a great deal" Quiet said.
"Keep up the sweet talking Tixij and you're going to make me blush" Carlos joked.
"Well, what matters is that we can get everyone out of the city now" Jill said.
"Yeah. You both will be safe" Carlos agreed.
Jill looked at him "What about you?".
"From the sound of it. I won't be catching the train" Carlos answered.
"Why not?" Jill asked in concern
"There'll be new orders. If it means I can help save the city, that's fine by me" Carlos lifts up a massive roller and they approach the train.
Mikhail looked at them "Good work. Your reputation is well deserved. Get inside, the subway is about to leave. Carlos, Tyrell. You have your orders. You need to go back out into the city and find Nathaniel Bard".
"This isn't the last ride out of town, right?" Jill asked.
"Do not worry. Once the civilians are safe, the train will be back" Mikhail assured.
"It's alright, you go on ahead. I'm not gonna die on you, and leave you in a cold, cruel, Carlos-less world" Carlos said in his easy going tone.
Jill smiled "OK".
"Alright lover birds, time to go" Quiet teased as they entered the train cart.
"You need to find this scientist. His vaccine research could save us all" Mikhail instructed his men. Something that made Quiet and Jill rather curious.
Nicholai, who was sitting inside the cart, began clapping "You see? You're learning. The only life that matters is your own".
"Shut up" Quiet warned.
"Good luck. Let's go!" Mikhail called out as the train finally began to move. Finally they would get out of this nightmare.
Nicholai walked up to Mikhail "You don't really think a pencil-pusher like Bard is still alive, do you?".
Mikhail looks at him "I have it on good authority. Why? Are you worried about teammates? Or something else? Funny how brainless zombies can ambush a platoon like that. Funny the gate was locked. Don't you think?".
Nicholai chuckles and Quiet glared at him, looking ready to pull out her knife. But then the train starts shaking. From afar, the rattle of metal is open the door to the next car and see Nemesis. He was still alive, and had just killed all the survivors.
"How is this fucker not dead yet!?" Jill runs at him in a rage.
Quiet grabs her "Jill! Don't!".
"She's right, Jill. They're gone. Come. This way" Mikhail said as he pulls out his gun.
The two women runs to the opposite cart, but Nicholai has already locked it and stands on the other side of the door.
"Nicholai, what are you doing?" Jill demanded.
Nicholai smiles "It's not after me".
"Nicholai!" Jill shouts as she hits the door.
"Back stabbing bastard!" Quiet growls.
Mikhail was trying to shoot Nemesis off, but without success. Nemesis grabs him with a tentacle and drags him to himself. Mikhail, like a real warrior, has prepared a backup plan. He had covered himself in explosives.
"Get off my train, shitbird" He presses the detonator trigger.
The cart explodes, and Quiet held on to Jill to protect her from the violent impacts.
Meanwhile, Snake was standing on a roof top, scouting out the area. Plenty of infected as far as the eye could see. But he needed to find a spot where survivors could be located. In the distance, he noticed a Police station.
"Well that would probably be one of the safest places for survivors to hide" Snake mused to himself before beginning the dangerous trip to the Station. He hoped he would at least find someone.
He really hated this damn city.
