I creaked my eyes open to the sounds of a doorknob jiggling. I turned to the door the left my hospital room. It began to creak open and out popped a tall blonde girl with a cyan tank top and cargo shorts. She looked around the room and then made eye contact with me.
"H-hey Mendez," She said sheepishly and walked into the room
I was going to question who she was but I remembered the conversion with Luan and Leni. That they had a sibling that was driving back from Fairway University. Her features matched the description that they gave me and I tried to remember what her name was that they told me. L-Loni?... no, Leby…. No, L-Lo… Lor-Lori!
"You must be Lori," I said
"Y-yeah, I am," She said
"Why are you here?" I asked her as I looked at the clock on the wall 10:46
"Y-your mom told me to check up on you for a bit before my family all comes at 2:00," She said
I remembered that my mom told me she had jury duty but there was one question that lingered in my mind… What about dad?
"Is my dad coming?" I asked her
"No, he said he had a Zoom meeting today," Lori said as she sat down her purse on the couch and walked over to me, "So your mom told me you're in a… situation… apparently. That you can't remember what happened from 3 months ago to now."
"Apparently I am," I said
"T-then how do you remember my name?" Lori asked
"We had a conversion with your family last night and they told me your names," I replied as I reached over the bed for water.
I took a sip of the lukewarm water and placed it back down on your tray
"So, like first and last names?" Lori asked
"No, just first names," I replied
"Oh, those Idiots, literally can't even give names right," Lori said
"Hey, that's not cool," I told her "They told me your first name and that was enough for me to call you by right?"
"Y-yeah but, they should give both first and last names when introducing yourself to someone," Lori said to me
"Yeah, but Luan and Leni did a good job on doing that," I said "Besides they were all up in my space for some reason."
I looked to my right, outside the window, and saw the town from my second-floor view. Lori went to the couch next to the window and picked up her purse. She pulled out her phone and I saw her tap on the screen for a few moments. She walked over to me and flipped the phone screen to me. I looked at it and it was a picture of me in swim shorts with me holding up Lola on my right shoulder and Lana was on my left while Lori was in the selfie position holding a peace sign with her hands. I continued to gaze up at the photo and I took it from her hands.
"When was this?" I asked
"Well I'm not sure you remember this but we took you to the pool one day," She said
"Really? What did we do?" I asked
"Well, you did chicken fights with Lynn and lincoln while play wrestling with Luan at the same time and won both of those things. You also flipped my floaty and I chased you around the pool," Lori explained "Then I jumped down the water slide to get you and my top came off when it got caught in one of the cracks in the slide."
"Hah, I would have loved to see that," I laughed at Lori's story
Lori blushed and said, "S-shut up."
"Man, you guys sound like fun to hang around," I said to her "What do you do when your parents arent home? I understand that you'd be the one in charge."
"Yeah, I am," She said with a smug look "They do everything that I say, or else I'll have to tell my parents they aren't listening."
"Really? What do you make them do?" I asked Lori
"Well, how the schedule goes when our parents go out is 6:00 pm they leave so I have them line up at attention in my presence and explain the nightly schedule, 6:15 I have them in their rooms and not make a noise while I paint my nails, 6:30 I make dinner and they eat it quietly, 7:00 They clean up the dining room while I talk to Britney on the phone. Then the rest of the time they sit in their rooms not making a sound until they fall asleep while I watch the Love Boat downstairs. I remember Lana called me Sr. so I chewed her out hard." Lori concluded with a giggle
I looked at her with very confused eyes and said "Do your siblings like it when you are in charge?"
"Well, no but I don't care because I'm the one-" Lori said until I shushed her
"Because you're the oldest? That doesn't make any sense, how come it's fair that you can do what you want to do while your siblings are stuck picking up the mess you created." I concluded
"Yeah, well they're the younger siblings so they have to do what I say," She said as she sat down on the couch
"So that makes their wishes and human rights invalid?" I asked
"W-what no," She stuttered "Its-"
I cut her off again " I went to a military school for a couple of years now and I can tell what leadership is. That's not leadership."
"Ok then, what is it?" She huffed
"That's called being a bully," I said
"What? How?" She said
"When you treat someone like that, then they won't have respect for you when you tell them to do something when they're older," I said "Like instead of putting them at attention in your presence, give them at ease or at rest to calm them down. And instead of yelling at them like an animal, calmly tell them the schedule for the night, and if someone messes up on addressing you, correct them but don't be a dick about it."
"Oh yeah, I'd like you to take care of 10 crazy kids," Lori crossed her arms
"Do you have any idea how big a platoon is?" I asked her
"W-well… no," She said
"It's from 25-30 people," I said "So I and 2 other squad leaders had to take care of them. So trust me when I say that I think I have more experience than you."
"Ok then, tell me what to do, with one of your stories," She said sarcastically
"I remember this one time it was only me because the all the other squad leaders caught the flu, both Platoon Leaders and Platoon Sergeants were at a meeting with the Dean of Academics, 1st Sergeant was on leave for a funeral, and my company commander was in the hospital for breaking his leg during football. So it was just me and the company, 67 kids," I said
"Wow really?" She said in shock
"How do you think that night went?" I asked her
"Terrible," She replied
"No, the opposite, it was the best night Alpha company had," I replied "I first looked at the schedule and made an announcement for everyone to get up to the formation. They all came and I called them to attention and then at ease. I then explained the schedule and that dinner will start in a bit and we'll have to leave now to make it. I formed them up outside and they decided it was funny to mess around in the formation so I made them do 30 pushups after we got there. We managed to get into the Mess Hall and eat with them sweating. So when I had to march them back they decided it wasn't funny anymore to mess around in the formation. Once we got back to the barracks I told them that study hours start in a bit. I dismissed them from the formation and I did my homework too but every 15 minutes I would walk around to see if anyone needed help. Some kids decided to follow my example and helped other cadets as well, so I gave them a reward with a bag of chips. We finished study hours and I got them to clean their rooms and got them posted for inspection and that whoever had the best room would get a chocolate bar. They all passed it and I gave them 10 minutes to get themselves ready for bed and they did it and we went to bed without any complaints. The winners of the Inspection were 2 Hispanic cadets, forgot who."
"Wow," Lori said
"Yeah, see how being chill and giving rewards can get a company motivated and ready to work and not just boss them around," I said
"I guess you have a lot of knowledge with a broken brain," she laughed
I laughed at it and I looked at her.
"We could use someone like you in our family," she said
Suddenly I stopped laughing and I looked down and twiddled my thumbs.
"Hey," Lori said in a concerned look "are you ok?"
"Y-yeah I'm fine," I said
"Are you sure?" Lori asked
I looked up at the clock and saw the time 1:55.
"Y-yeah, I just need to go to bed," I said
"O-oh ok," She said "Good night,"
I turned in the opposite direction and closed my eyes. I began to tune everything out and I felt my heart calm down. I began to loosen up as voices began to fill the space of my mind.
Flashback
White filled the room and churchbells filled my ears. I turned to see a woman in white with flowers stringed together with a white ribbon. I looked down at myself and I had shrunken into a child's suit. I looked up to see a man in a black suit and he faced a person with a crucifix on a string around his neck. I looked to my right and saw my brother in a suit. I looked down in my hands and there I held a pillow with 2 beautiful rings on it.
"May the ring bearer please step forth," I heard the priest say
Suddenly I felt a kick on the back of my knee and I folded like a chair and I fell to the ground. I looked up and saw Parker smirking down at me.
"You don't deserve to be the ring bearer," He said as he picked up the pillow with rings on it
He began to walk up the path of righteousness and stopped at their feet. I got up on my knees and peered above the rows of seats and saw my brother giving the rings to my new parents. I looked on as none of them even grew a look of confusion as they put the rings on.
"You may now kiss the bride." the priest said as she closed the bible "You may all now congratulate the new family."

Hello, it's me Memerman, I want to thank you for the support but I was thinking to end my career as a fanfic writer. I want to thank you all for the time of happiness and I want to thank you all. I'm not sure that this is the end but I am considering ending it and putting my stories up for adoption. But that is still for debate.
