I don't own anything to Star Trek. It is all property of Gene Roddenberry and whoever has the rights to it. I don't make money with it. I'm writing fanfictions about Star Trek because I love this story. So I ask you not to sue me.

I am very sorry for my frustration in Chapter 3. I just had to write it off my chest. After that I felt better. I will of course try to end this story. I will probably never be satisfied, but I am very critical of myself.

Simon, the Human

Irony. That was the word Spock thought of when he saw James Tibirius Kirk's eyes. Of all the people who lost their lives in this senseless slaughter, this very man was still alive.

Spock remembered him well. From his attempt to win his test by cheating, his familiarity with Captain Pike and his outburst when Spock became captain and made a decision he absolutely disagreed with.

He didn't know how this man survived. He had believed that, like so many others, he had died with the fall of the Enterprise. Eventually Spock had him locked in a cell. With all his calculations, he never expected to see this person again.

"Why are you sneaking around here trying to kill us?" He heard Nyota's question and was instantly torn from his thoughts. He saw Gary pull her head back in response. The blade of the knife flashed on her neck for a moment.

"You can't trust anyone these days, honey. You should have understood that by now. I for one, I still don't understand why I shouldn't."

"Gary!" A warning came from Kirk, who wasn't paying any attention to Spock. "Let go of her! She's not dangerous!"

"How do you know?" His buddy asked mockingly.

"She was on the Enterprise with me when it all happened!" Jim countered. But his argument was weak. Even Spock believed it, but he hoped it would remove the blade from Nyota's neck.

Unfortunately, Gary didn't seem convinced in any way. "How a hundred others! I have no idea who is still living on it. Besides, that doesn't prove anything! We turn around and the next moment they ram the knife in our back!"

A logical thought, Spock thought, but ...

"So that means you're going to kill us," he said calmly, turning his whole body to face him. He didn't think Kirk was attacking him from behind unless he showed hostile intent. So he fully concentrated on his friend. "Romulans kill humans. They chase them. They execute them. What are we doing? The last survivors? We kill each other and help those who are already slaughtering us."

After his speech, he let a moment pass before continuing, "Of course we pose a risk to you, it's the same for us. But I can only assure you that we just want to leave the sector. We all know what happens when a Romulan is injured."

"Or killed," Gary replied, turning his head toward the bloodied corpse.

Spock nodded. There was no point in denying it. He could only hope that this man would listen to reason.

"Gary," urged Kirk and now stepped over to his buddy 's side.

The man's gaze wandered from Spock to Kirk and back. To his relief, the older one sighed in frustration and pushed Nyota away. Surprised, she stumbled to Spock and he took her protectively in his arms.

Gary raised the knife threateningly. "Don't make me regret it!"

"That's not our intention," Spock assured him. However, his eyes were secretly on James T. Kirk. Without him, his friend would certainly not have been so kind.

"Who are you?" Kirk asked the next moment, as if he had noticed Spock's gaze. He felt his muscles tense briefly and he remembered that he could not be recognized with the motorcycle helmet. Now all he had to do was say half-truths. That he could. After all, it wasn't an outright lie because he wasn't very good at it.

"My name is Simon," Spock replied.

His mother had once told him that if his father hadn't insisted on a Vulcan name, he would have been called that. So you could say it was Spock's human name.

Jim seemed to be wondering if he knew him from somewhere, but couldn't figure out where. Instead, he shook his head slightly and pointed his ax at the back door.

"Fuck off!"

Advice that each of them should follow immediately, but Spock found himself asking, "Don't you want to come with us?"

The two gentlemen stared at him in amazement, but also Nyota. He himself didn't know why he was asking this question. Still, his mouth seemed to have developed a life of its own.

"We all seem to want to leave the sector, so it would only be wise to work together to increase our chances of success."

"No, thanks. We can't leave here yet," Kirk replied with obvious suspicion.

His offer was viewed as a planned ambush. That was understandable. Spock should have expected this reaction. Before he could correct his mistake, Nyota pulled his arm toward the back door.

"Come on, Simon! Let's not challenge our luck "

"She's right!" Gary spoke condescendingly and made a shooing motion with his hand. "Go away! I already regret it!"

Although Spock wanted to say something for some reason, he decided against it at the same moment. They really shouldn't push their luck. So he followed Nyota with quick steps outside.

Jim let out a relieved breath when he couldn't see them anymore and turned to his buddy, who had already wasted no time and searched the body.

"Something useful here?"

Gary shook his head. "You have no idea how much I want to take the phaser rifle from this guy."

"Do that and these guys will be able to track us down," Jim reminded him as he picked up a piece of the broken bottle. These things were more practical than anything nowadays. They had attracted the attention of many opponents. Even if Jim wished to find a full bottle. What would he not do for a good drink.

"Why didn't you let me finish them?" Gary asked from behind, actually sounding reproachful.

"Please forgive me for having inhibitions about killing people I have known before," Jim said with as much sarcasm as he could. Sometimes he couldn't believe what he had to justify himself for. Murder used to be a crime. It was routine now.

"You're pretty soft, Jimmy."

"Fuck you! We finally have to find Kelso! Leave the corpse. We can't make it vanish anyway."

Gary said nothing more and they both started moving again.

On the way to the crashed spaceship, the two managed to get past any patrol unnoticed. That was good. Neither of them would survive a shootout, though Jim always wanted to knock them down whenever he saw a Roumulan. Sometimes he imagined using a brick, wooden plank or crowbar to do this. He didn't need a phaser or even his ax.

He sighed. His thoughts wandered away again.

It was on the edge of the sector when they realized they were getting closer to their goal. Kelso's girlfriend once lived in one of this buildings. When they were at the academy he couldn't stop talking about her and raved and raved and raved. Jim could only hope that they would find Kelso here. After all, it was a place they all knew. His buddy had to trust that they would be looking for him here.

The screams they suddenly heard made Jim's blood run cold. He knew that voice. Kelso!

Neither he nor Gary wasted a thought on being careful and rushed towards the excruciating noises. Only when the screams got louder, it was only thanks to Gary, who turned his mind on faster than Jim, that they hadn't bumped into the small group of soldiers. He had pushed Jim against the nearest wall and covered his mouth. As a result, he had no choice but to quietly watch the scene that was going on around the next corner without doing anything.

His good old friend Kelso lay whimpering and bleeding on the floor and begged the Romulans for mercy in a trembling voice. His nose was broken, his right arm was twisted strangely and that was only what Jim could see from this distance. His mind was racing with ideas of how to save their buddy, but it was all marked with a big "if". No plan was perfect enough to be carried out, and Jim was painfully aware again how much he could no longer take risks.

... but they had to save Kelso! There had to be a way!

A conversation between two Romulans rang out and before Gary and Jim could react, one of them raised their gun and shot Kelso in the face, quick and painless. His buddy immediately sagged. The phaser's branding smoldered through his skull. Jim was in complete horror. His body reacted like on autopilot and the next moment he came with a loud "No!" on his lips out of the corner. Of course it was a mistake. An unforgivable one that happened again because of his uncontrolled feelings. The soldiers had definitely noticed him because all pairs of eyes were fixed on him at the same moment. They just seemed shocked that someone was so stupid and would just step in front of them. Well, Jim wondered how long he could even survive this.

His heart was racing and time seemed to pass with every beat.

The first heartbeat and the first Romulan left his rigidity.

In the second moment he was aiming his phaser rifle at him.

On the third heartbeat, Jim had expected to be shot, instead there was a loud whistle.

And on the fourth all the soldiers turned and saw a man with a motorcycle helmet. This time, Simon seemed to be using a different tactic, ramming his knee into a Romulan's face so hard that he passed out immediately.

At that moment Jim's heart skipped a long moment and looked spellbound at the scene in front of him. Simon had been holding something that he had thrown immediately after his attack. Jim heard something break and the next moment he heard screams. One of the Romulans was on fire! Jim was slowly processing in his head that Simon had used a Molotov cocktail.

The resulting confusion and surprise was immediately used by the man to run away. Jim was instead drawn away with sheer strength and realized in his own shock that Gary was pulling him to a wildly gesticulating Uhura.

"Come on!" She yelled at them as she tossed another Molotov cocktail to the Romulans who were about to hunt them. She met one of them and made the others stop to help their companion. It wouldn't stop them for long, but long enough to give them a head start. Jim violently shook all useless thoughts and ran with the others like the devil was after them. Which was almost true for them.

The whole escape was just a fuzzy memory for Jim. He paid no attention to where they were going or what their possible destination might be. He just ran after Uhura and Gary. Always faster and faster.

Even when his lungs started to burn, he didn't stop running.

Even when he got sweat in his eyes, he didn't stop running.

It was meaningless. He could rest when they were safe ... or dead. It wasn't until he saw the beginning of a ravine that Jim knew where Uhura was going. This one separated the adjacent sectors and was created by a crashed spaceship. Jim couldn't imagine why she was headed for it, but given their situation, he shouldn't care. He would embrace any lifesaving idea he could get. Still, he noticed how he lost speed as they approached the abyss and Uhura made no move to change course. Just before she jumped, she yelled at the two men behind her: "We're sliding down!" And with that she was gone.

Gary screamed horrified: "What ?!" But Jim tried to ignore it and his own fear and just blindly did what was asked of him. He jumped over the edge and found in a few seconds that it was not falling steeply, but sloping the earth downwards. So they could actually slide all the way down.

But that didn't mean it was a pleasant experience. It was still steep enough to make Jim feel like he was off the ground. Debris and other small pieces found their way under his clothing, ripping open his skin, piece by piece. He had to close his eyes because all the dirt was obscuring his view. It wasn't until he lost speed and cold water surrounded him that Jim knew they had hit the ground.

Uhura must have known that the canyon had filled with water over the years and would slow their escape. When Jim coughed the unwanted water out of his lungs, it wasn't long before he saw her. Luckily Gary next to her. She motioned for them to dive and immediately disappeared under the surface of the water. Jim and Gary only looked at each other briefly before following her.

The water was dirty and prevented good visibility. So it became more and more difficult to follow Uhura the faster she got away from them. Jim could only rely on his intuition and luck, which amazingly still worked. He could also guess where they were swimming to. Their small group could only hope that the Romulans believed they died in the fall.

He had guessed correctly and Jim appeared with his colleagues under the spaceship. They could still see the holes and rifts of battle that must have caused this lady's end. Jim couldn't read the name anymore because everything was already covered with moss and rust. It had only been two years but this baby looked so worn it could have been from a war movie.

"Nyota," a calm voice echoed near them and after a brief moment of searching Jim saw him. Simon! He leaned out of one of the cracks in the ship to help them into the house. Jim couldn't tell how relieved he was to see the guy. Part of him had feared that he died for this rescue mission.

Uhura was the first to swim to him and offer her hand. Simon picked her up as if the young woman weighed nothing and Jim was already afraid that Uhura had lost too much weight. But when he saw how easily Simon got Gary out of the water, Jim was confused. How strong was this guy? He couldn't suppress a surprised sound as he was easily pulled up himself.

"I hope you are not wounded, Mister Kirk?" Simon asked too calmly for Jim's taste. Furthermore...

"Mister Kirk?! Seriously?!" Only then did he notice how out of breath he was. "Do you still think of politeness when shit like that happens? "

Simon then seemed to want to answer. But his gaze slid down and stayed there. Jim wanted to ask him if he liked what he saw, but when he looked down at himself he noticed the blood flowing down his pants.

Fuck!

And with that, Jim passed out.

I got the name Simon from the Star Trek Boldly Go comic, in which Spock chose his human side in an AU and was called Simon. I only adopted it for fanfiction. By the way, this universe was very interesting! There he was an enemy of Jim, who was raised by Klingons as a child. The idea has its charm. Has anyone ever written a fanfiction about it? I would definitely read it.

Kelso's death was very emotionless now, but unfortunately it only served to get Jim and Spock to band together. Sorry, Kelso!
