"What is Evil? Whatever that springs from Weakness"

The AntiChrist by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

Everyone in Class D has just had the weirdest thing that happened to them. Apparently a person from another world came to them to let them watch an anime that is about them. They are currently arranging and preparing themselves and waiting for Tanaguchi to return. Everyone stopped when they saw a portal and Tanaguchi in front of the classroom.

Tanaguchi: *carrying a lot of bags and stuff* Hi everyone! Um… little help here?

Kushida: Oh, Tanaguchi-kun, let me help you.

Hirata: Yeah, me too.

Kushida and Hirata then help carry some of the other stuff that Tanaguchi was carrying. They were a laptop bag, a projector bag and also some other stuff.

Tanaguchi: Thank you very much, Hirata-kun, Kushida-san!

Hirata: Your welcome. Anyways, you need help to set up?

Tanaguchi: Oh, no need. I can do it on my own. You could just help the others prepare themselves. I am sure this will be a big shocker for them.

Kushida: Okay then.

While Tanaguchi was preparing, Class D prepared themselves to be comfortable and ready for the screening.

Ayanokoji: He said that most of the things that will be happening will be in my perspective. That would likely mean that most of the things I have done in the shadows will be exposed to everyone. *sighs* This will seriously bother me for the longest time.

Horikita: What are you thinking, Ayanokoji-kun?

Ayanokoji: *cutted off from his train of thoughts* Horikita. Well, I am just thinking some stuff about the screening, that's all.

Horikita: This will be interesting, well atleast for us. This anime series might reveal some things about your past. That will be what I would be looking forward to.

Ayanokoji: I forgot about the fact that Horikita is very interested in my past. Although I don't know why but what she just said can also be a possibility *looks at Tanaguchi, preparing and humming* I should probably ask him about this.

While Ayanokoji was still in his thoughts, Tanaguchi called the attention of everyone in the class.

Tanaguchi: Alright everyone. This is it, the first episode of Classroom of the Elite. I hope you guys enjoy this anime series.

"What is Evil? Whatever that springs from Weakness"

The AntiChrist by Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche

Karuizawa: Wait… I heard that quote from somewhere… Oh yeah, that is one of the quotes that we studied for the midterms exam.

Tanaguchi: Really? I suggest that you guys keep these quotes as what they are talking about could be very useful to knowing what the episode will be about.

Karuizawa: Oh, really? Then what is this quote about for this episode?

[Setting: Bus at a station]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): If I may, I'd like to pose an interesting question: "Are all human beings truly equal?" These days everywhere you go there's a talk about a fight for equality.

[An elderly woman enters the utility vehicle. The bus is filled with Advanced Nurturing High School students]

Kushida: This bus… Oh yeah, this is the bus that I took to get to school for the first day of school.

Ayanokoji: So that will mean that we will be starting our journey from the first day of school.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): As a wise man once said, "Heaven does not create one person above or below another." People like to throw these words around. That's not the whole quote. It goes on to say that "... while we are all equal at birth, pretty soon, things begin to change. The academic effort is what sets some people apart to rise above the others.

[The bus leaves]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): At any rate, humans change over time based on their actions. Truth be told, at the end of the day, equality is just a fantasy. And most of us go through life denying the fact that we live in a meritocracy.

Hirata: Wow, Ayanokoji, I didn't expect you to be this perspective about this type of stuff.

Horikita: Me either. I knew you were smart but I never knew you would have such a realistic view of society and the equality it holds.

Ayanokoji: I guess, you still have a lot of things you don't know about me, Horikita.

Kikyō Kushida: Uhm, excuse me, sir? ... Would you be willing to give up your seat?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Hmm?

Kikyō Kushida: That is the priority seat after all. I think you should let this elderly lady sit there.

Sudo: Hey everyone, that is Kushida!

Ike: Yeah we know, we are not that dumb to not realize.

Hirata: And you look like you are helping that old lady get a seat to sit in the bus. You are always a nice and thoughtful person.

Tanaguchi: He's right, Kushida is a very nice and caring person but at least from what I learn, not everyone is showing their true side.

Hirata: What do you mean?

Tanaguchi: Oh nothing, let's just continue watching.

Rokusuke Kōenji: My, my, pretty girl. While it may be a priority seat, there is no law requiring me to relinquish it. You want me to give up my seat just because I am young? [Chuckles] Nonsense, pure and simple. Even if I am young, standing consumes more stamina than sitting. Why should I do something so detrimental with no benefit to myself?

Everyone: BOO!

Yukimura: No surprise there, Koenji have always been the braggish type.

Hirata: Yeah but why did you do that Koenji, could you not see the old lady who she is trying to help? Do you not have any care for her?

Koenji: I could see the old lady alright. And also it is not like I do not care, I am just exercising my right to sit down. Beside like my screen self said, there is no such rule.

Sudo: But still though, that is not cool.

Kikyō Kushida: I think you'd be contributing to society. And this lady seems to be having trouble staying upright...

Rokusuke Kōenji: I have no interest in contributing to society. Besides... What about those sitting in the other seats? The difference between priority seats and others seems rather trivial to me.

Ike: Well the pretty boy does have a point, the others in the bus doesn't seem to want to give up their seats as well to the old lady.

Tanaguchi: Yeah, you can't deny the fact that the other people in there as well are not willing to do it. Well that is just the truth of society and might as well accept it.

Elderly Woman: Really, I'm fine. But thank you.

Kikyō Kushida (Shouting): Excuse me! Would any of you be willing to give up your seat?

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji gazes upon Suzune Horikita, a female student who's reading a book and is sitting across him]

Kushida: Ayanokoji, so you met Horikita already before the start of the school?

Ayanokoji: Yes, although that was just a coincidence.

Sakura: B-but you guys seem very close.

A young adult woman (Speaking while raising her right hand): Um, you can have mine.

Kikyō Kushida: Thank you so much!

[She stands up and passes along the aisle]

[Portrayal of school vicinity]

[The bus arrives at a station. Students are disembarking]

[Setting: Near the High School Entrance]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: So this is my new school? Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School. A school established by the Japanese government to nurture young people who will support the country in the future. It boasts a 100% employment and college entry rate, and with thorough, state-directed teaching methods, it spares no effort in pursuing the nation's desired future.

Tanaguchi: Actually this type of school doesn't exist in the main world.

Hirata: Wait, you mean there is no such school that is funded by the government in your world?

Tanaguchi: I mean yes there are government-funded schools but not at the same level as your school. Teaching wise is the same but things like the point system or the special exams do not exist.

Karuizawa: Special Exams? What is that?

Tanaguchi: Oh, you guys will find out in the upcoming episodes. Anyways it seems in this version of Japan, the government has enough money to do something like this.

Suzune Horikita: Excuse me. You were looking at me on the bus. Why?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Oh. Sorry. It was because you, like me, didn't seem interested in giving up your seat. So you don't like to get involved in stuff like that either, huh?

Suzune Horikita: Don't assume I'm like you. I held on to my seat as a matter of conviction.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Uh, doesn't that make you even worse?

Horikita: Oh, Ayanokoji-kun, what did you just say in your mind? And also what is that sarcasm you just showed?

Ayanokoji: *sighs* This is the reason why I would like my inner thoughts to remain in my inner self.

Suzune Horikita: If you have no business with me, fine.

Ike: *whistles* Wow, Horikita-san, you know you don't have to be that mean to him, you know.

Horikita: It is none of your business.

[Setting: Inside the High School Covered Court]

Orientation Ceremony Host: Now we'll have a few words from the student council president.

Manabu Horikita (Speaking on the stage): I am the student council president, Horikita Manabu. As a representative of the upper classes, I would like to extend words of welcome to our newest students. As I believe you know, our school is highly accomplished in all aspects and boasts a high employment and college entry rate. This is the pride of our school, accomplished through the hard work of both our graduating students and those still attending. We expect the same from the new students.

Sotomura: I just realized, right Horikita-san is the sister of the student council president?

Yukimura: Oh yeah, that's right. I didn't recognize that they have the same family name.

Tanaguchi: Um… how did you guys didn't realize that?

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji looks at Suzune Horikita while wondering]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): We're in the same class?

Horikita: Do you have a problem with us being in the same class, Ayanokoji-kun?

Ayanokoji: Well, at first I have none but now I have some regrets and doubts.

Kushida: Wow, those two really do look close. I wonder if she told him anything about me? Or rather, whether Ayanokoji told anything about that night?

Manabu Horikita (Speaking at the stage): Everything in this school is decided by merit...

[Bell rings.]

[Setting: 1st Year D-Class Room]

[Students are chatting and talking in Class 1-D, while some decided to stay in their seats.]

Kikyō Kushida: [Giggles] I see! What genre do you like best?

Mei-Yu Wang: Oh, what genre? Well... I like romance!

Kikyō Kushida: Oh, really?

Mei-Yu Wang: Stuff like shōjo manga...

Kikyō Kushida: Really? I like mysteries!

Kokoro Inogashira: Mysteries?!

Kikyō Kushida: Surprising, huh?

Kokoro Inogashira: Yeah!

Kikyō Kushida: I get that a lot!

Ike: Kushida-chan is really good at communicating to people, both male and female.

Ayanokoji: Yeah, she was able to convince the three idiots to attend Horikita's study group in less than a few minutes. That is really impressive.

Tanaguchi: I have to agree, Kushida does have a great talent in gathering a bunch of people's trust and also secrets. With that kind of power, you could break the mindset of an entire class!

Kushida: Tanaguchi-kun, you don't say...

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji sitting with his arms on the desk. He looks at Suzune Horikita while thinking about the coincidences.]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): I'm seated next to her?

Suzune Horikita: An unpleasant coincidence.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I feel the same way.

Ike: Is it just me or the way they both talk to each other is sometimes getting a bit too out of hands.

Yamauchi: Yeah, the way they talk to each other seems like their enemies of some sorts.

Tanaguchi: You'll get used to their insults easily, trust me.

Yōsuke Hirata (Shouting): Everyone, may I have a moment? I was hoping we could all introduce ourselves to get a jump on getting better acquainted. The teacher doesn't seem to be here yet, anyway. How about it?

Kikyō Kushida: I'm in!

Kei Karuizawa: Sounds fun.

Maya Satō: Yeah. I don't even know anyone's names.

Yōsuke Hirata: Thanks. Okay, I'll go first. I'm Hirata Yōsuke. Just call me Yōsuke. No need for formality. I play all kinds of sports, and I intend to join the soccer club at this school. Nice to meet you all!

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): I bet he'll end up being the class leader.

Hirata: Oh, Ayanokoji-kun, thank you very much for the kind compliment.

Ayanokoji: Um… That wasn't supposed to be a compliment but I will let you have it, I guess.

Some students: Sounds good.

Kikyō Kushida: I'll go next! My name is Kushida Kikyō. My goal is to become friends with every one of you! I'd like to make lots of good memories, so don't hesitate to invite me anywhere!

Some boys: Looking forward to it!

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): She'll be popular with both guys and girls. She's already got that "I can be friends with anyone" aura about her. But I guess this is no time to be critical.

Kushida: Really, you really think I am like that, Ayanokoji-kun?

Ayanokoji: Well, it was pretty obvious to begin with. I am sure everyone here is thinking the same thing as me.

Everyone nodded in agreement to what Ayanokoji said, including Tanaguchi.

Tanaguchi: Yeah, like what Ayanokoji said, it was pretty obvious and that is one of the main reasons you are a very likeable character but that attitude of yours just made it even more obvious for the viewers to think that you are hiding something.

Kushida: Really? I didn't know...

Kanji Ike: Me next! I'm Ike Kanji! I love girls, and I hate hot guys! I'm always accepting new girlfriend applications!

[Some students laugh.]

Haruki Yamauchi: I'm Haruki Yamauchi. In elementary school, I went to nationals in ping-pong. In middle school, I was the baseball club's ace and cleanup hitter. I'm still recovering from an injury I got during the inter-high.

Tanaguchi: Really, Yamauchi? Are you sure that all the things that you just said are true?

Yamauchi: W-what did y-you mean, Tanaguchi-kun? Of course, I am not l-lying. Why would I be lying about those things? Hahahahaha…

Tanaguchi: *deadpanned* Yep, I think I hit the bullseye.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): These introductions will determine everyone's standing in the class. Should I try for a joke? I bet I can get a big laugh if I'm really energetic. Or maybe I'd just creep everyone out.

Kanji Ike: Oh, wow! The inter-high, in middle school?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): It's not like I have any hobbies or talents, anyway. I'm just a white bird, flying free.

Kushida: Um, Ayanokoji-kun. I don't think you should take this introduction seriously. I mean, it is just an introduction.

Hirata: Besides, we don't easily judge a person by his first impression and introduction only.

Ayanokoji: That is easy for you two to say. Besides, how will you guys react if you guys really know who I truly am?

Yōsuke Hirata: Next up... you!

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Huh? Me?

[Yōsuke Hirata smiles in response]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): No getting around it. I'd better muster up the energy to introduce myself. For the sake of my school life.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Uh... Um... I'm Ayanokōji Kiyotaka. Uh... I look forward to studying with you. Ah, um... I'm not good at anything in particular. Uh... I'll work hard to get along with everyone.

[The students clap for his introduction.]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): I blew it.

Most of them laughed hard as they saw Ayanokoji's defeated face on the screen. Ayanokoji on the other hand just looked at disappointment at his former self.

Hirata: But to be serious about this, Ayanokoji-kun, you didn't blow or screwed it up. That was a perfectly normal introduction and it is normal for a person to be nervous when first introducing himself.

Sudo: Yes, and unlike some other people's introductions, it is not so stupid and not so cringey.

Yōsuke Hirata: Nice to meet you, Ayanokōji-kun. Let's be good friends.

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji sits down and looks at a grinning Suzune Horikita]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): She laughed at me.

Yōsuke Hirata: Okay, next up...

[A loud thud interrupts the room. The noise was Ken Sudō kicking the desk in front of him, frightening Kanji Ike]

Ken Sudō: Introductions? Please. What are we, little kids? Do that if you want, but leave us out of it.

Ike: Um, bro? We are just introducing ourselves to others, there's really nothing wrong with doing that, right?

Sudo: Y-yeah, I guess I was pretty stupid that time, I am sorry.

Sae Chabashira: Everyone...

[The teacher of the class arrives.]

Sae Chabashira: Take your seats. I'm Chabashira Sae, and I'm the homeroom teacher for Class D. There will be no changing of classes in this school. I will be responsible for you for the next three years until you graduate. First, I'll hand out the school rule book. Take one and pass it back. We have special rules at this school. First, you will live in dorms and, while at school, your ability to leave campus and contact the outside world will be limited. But don't worry. The school offers a variety of facilities. Everything you need can be found here, including entertainment. To buy things, you'll use points stored in the school's official computer system. At this school, you can buy anything using points. Points are allotted on the first of each month. One point is worth one yen. You have already been allotted 100,000 points for this month.

Kanji Ike: 100,000?

Haruki Yamauchi: Are you serious?

Yamauchi: Now that I am thinking about it, that amount of money was probably enough for us for three years in the school.

Ike: Yeah, I guess we should have saved at least some points instead of using all of them at once.

Yukimura: Speaking of points, Sensei, will Tanaguchi-kun be getting some points as well?

Chabashira: Oh yeah, I forgot. *picked up a phone and handed it over to Tanaguchi* Here is your official school phone. The phone will be most of the things you need in this school, including your points counter.

Tanaguchi: Thank you very much but I could still access it on my own personal phone. *brings out a phone similar to the tablet he have*

Ike: Woah! Just how advanced is the technology you have in your world?

Tanaguchi: Actually it is just as similar as yours. The phone, tablet and laptop that I have right now is all provided when I first received my powers. I don't know how but that's just what happened.

[Kei Karuizawa looks surprised]

Sae Chabashira: Are you surprised by the size of your allotment? This school judges students based on merit. You are attributed significant value just for being accepted here.

[Setting: Convenience Store]

Cashier: Thank you very much!

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: It really does work like money.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Twenty-five students per class, and four classes per grade... that makes 300 students total. If each student gets 100,000 yen per month, that's 360 million per year. Strange, even if it is government-funded…

Sudo: Now that you mention it, that is kind of strange for the government. Just giving away a big sum of money to literal teenagers in a single school. Even if it's inside school, that is still strange.

Yukimura: Hey, Tanaguchi-kun, how many points do you have?

Tanaguchi: Wait, I never checked it yet, let me check… *opens his phone and saw the big sum of numbers in the screen* T-t-ten million points?!

Everyone: EH?!

Karuizawa: That's insane! How was the government able to give such a huge amount of money to him?

Chabashira: All of the nations around the world practically know of Tanaguchi right now so the UN decided to give him and the other person 10 million points.

Ike: But why? What is the benefit?

Chabashira: I don't know either but either way, he is a top secret to the outside world, existence of life outside our world is unheard of until now, I am sure this amount of money can be considered as hush money.

Tanaguchi: *deadpanned* I mean I appreciate the sentiment but I don't plan on telling anyone other than the main cast about me in the first place but I guess I should accept this amount of points.

Kushida: But what will you do with those points?

Tanaguchi: I have practically no idea.

[Coincidentally, Kiyotaka Ayanokōji meets Suzune Horikita again.]

Suzune Horikita: Another unpleasant coincidence.

Sotomura: Coincidence? I don't think so.

Sakura: How did you always meet Horikita all the time, Ayanokoji-kun?

Ayanokoji: To be honest, I wonder the same thing, Sakura. Almost as if we are always meant to be talking or what all the time.

Tanaguchi: Um, of course, I mean you guys are the literal centerpiece of what is happening within Class D. That means you guys have talked to each other almost frequently.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You don't have to be so twitchy. Well, since we sit beside each other, we should at least get along. What's your name?

[Silence]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You can tell me that much, can't you?

Suzune Horikita: Is it a problem if I refuse to answer?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: No, but it's unsettling not to know the name of the person sitting beside me.

Kushida: Wait a second… You mean they didn't know each other at all that time in the bus?

Tanaguchi: Yeah, finally you guys realized that fact.

Hirata: I mean they are always close and talking to each other, we initially thought they are some sort of friends or something.

Yamauchi: But hey! At least for the first time we could hear Ayanokoji talk more often. Here we could always see him as the one who starts the conversation while most of the time he would always be in the background.

Suzune Horikita: It's Horikita Suzune.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Horikita? Like the student council president?

[Suzune Horikita picks up a natural oil and shampoo from the counter]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You're buying lots of cheap stuff. You have a lot of money, though. You could buy more expensive—

Suzune Horikita: I don't need it.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: But—

Suzune Horikita: I don't need it, I told you.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Right.

Karuizawa: Wait a second… Does this mean that she knew about the point system and what will happen all along?

Tanaguchi: Well we can't say she does totally know, I mean-

Horikita: Like what Tanaguchi said, I don't really know what is happening that time but I felt that the amount of money and points we received is just too unreal to let students have every month.

Hirata: We understand that but it could have been better if you have told us as well, if you have then we could have avoided the thing that will happen later.

Tanaguchi: Um, guys, there's that and all but we better continue watching.

Suzune Horikita: You don't seem very good at interacting with people. You're a lousy conversationalist.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: That's true, although you don't seem much better.

Suzune Horikita: True. But I, for one, feel no need to make friends.

Kushida: Horikita-san, that is so unfair for all of us here. We all just wanted to be your friend or just be in good terms with you.

Horikita: But like I said, if you don't bother me or even talk to me then we would be on good terms always. But I always will prefer being alone.

Tanaguchi: Um, too much attitude? Well can't help it for now, she would just soon realize how wrong she truly is.

[Suzune Horikita notices the table adjacent to the counter]

Suzune Horikita: Free?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I guess it's to help people who use up their points?

Suzune Horikita: On top of 100,000 yen a month? The school is quite indulgent.

Ike: Indulgent? The school is more generous! Those things are a massive lifesaver for you if you don't have points left. I would not survive until now if those things don't exist.

Yamauchi: But despite that, I think we should prioritize saving our points by spending it all so that it could last longer, right everyone?

Everyone nodded in agreement to what Yamauchi said.

Ken Sudō: You looking down on me? Huh?!

[Both Kiyotaka Ayanokōji and Suzune Horikita notice a loud voice outside the store.]

Unnamed Upperclassman 1: You're in Class 1-D, aren't you?

Ken Sudō: [Grunts] And what if I am?!

Unnamed Upperclassman 1: Now, that's no way to talk to your seniors.

Ken Sudō: Shut up!

Hirata: *sighs* You know, Sudo-kun, I think we should fix that attitude of yours. It could seriously not just cause you trouble but rather trouble as well for the whole class. You almost got expelled for this.

Sudo: How could I expect to do that?! I mean they are treating me like trash here, no more like the lowest of the low in here.

Tanaguchi: But you don't have to fight them just for that. Just prove them wrong by showing good grades and efforts by not just you but the entire class. There is a lot of evidence of that happening in anime.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Huh? He's from our class, isn't he?

Suzune Horikita: My integrity would dive if I involve myself in that.

Hirata: But still, you should have helped him as a fellow classmate of yours.

Tanaguchi: No, Hirata-kun, it is more like the correct decision was made right there. If he would have been involved in that, then your class's reputation will sink even further.

Ayanokoji: Although my intention was not to really get involved in a fight and called by others as a mindless Class D student who is out for blood.

Ken Sudō: I don't care if you're my seniors! Do you want to fight or not?! I'll take all three of you! Bring it on!

Unnamed Upperclassman 1: We'll let you off easy today.

Unnamed Upperclassman 2: You guys are already defective losers. If we knocked you any lower, you'd just be pathetic.

Ken Sudō: Are you running away?!

Unnamed Upperclassman 3: Scream all you want. The real hell is yet to come for you people, anyway.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Hell?

Ken Sudō: Damn it!

[The garbage case stumbles. Few pieces of trash scattered. Ken Sudō walks out of the scene.]

Kushida: Hell huh? Well the next time I see them do that to one of us and I will show them real hell.

Tanaguchi: Sentiment aside, it is better not to do so, Kushida-san. Besides it is normal for the lowest class in the school to be treated like trash in the first place. And also involving yourself further into more fights could break your reputation even further, you get me right?

Kushida: Yeah. Wait, how did you know what I am talking about?

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji looks at his direction and notices the CCTV. After which, he acts accordingly to his goodwill.]

[Setting: 1st Year D-Class Room]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): It wasn't long before groups began to form within the class.

Mei-Yu Wang: Kikyo-chan, let's get lunch together!

Kikyō Kushida: Sorry, I've got some things to do.

Hideo Sotomura: 'Twas a mere 80,000! We're to receive 100,000 every month, after all!

Kanji Ike: I bought tons of mobile games!

Haruki Yamauchi: Sounds good! I'll buy some too, and we can battle!

Chiaki Matsushita: I saw this accessory I really liked.

Kei Karuizawa: Want to stop by after class?

Chiaki Matsushita: I wanna buy clothes too.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): I failed at making friends.

Sotomura: Poor, Ayanokoji-kun. Well this is a normal thing to happen to most anime protagonists, right Otaku Tanaguchi?

Tanaguchi: First off, what's with the nickname? and second that is more normal to all people. You don't have to be an anime protagonist to experience this.

Hirata: Sorry Ayanokoji-kun, I guess I wasn't able to notice that you are lonely at that time.

Ayanokoji: I actually don't mind, in fact it is more preferable. I never really liked to attract any attention or a crowd around me.

Hirata: But still, it is my fault for you being inconsiderate. Next time, I'll definitely invite you to lunch or something, okay?

Ayanokoji: Y-yes. He is really forcing himself to make me be his friend. But might as well accept it, maybe he can be useful for me in the future.

Suzune Horikita: You're pitiful.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You're alone, too

Suzune Horikita: Yes, because I like to be alone.

[Suzune Horikita eats her meal. Kiyotaka Ayanokōji stands up.]

Karuizawa: Horikita-san really likes to be lonely. If I were her, I wouldn't survive not having at least one person talking to me every minute.

Tanaguchi: A little bit of exaggeration over there, Karuizawa but yep, she does like to be lonely.

Horikita: But I don't see any wrong in liking being lonely, right?

Kushida: No, there is no problem with that. But just in case you want someone to talk to, you could always call me. I would always try to find time to hang out with you.

Horikita: Like I said… Fine, I will accept your offer.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Maybe I'll hit up the cafeteria...

[Setting: Along the corridor]

Kikyō Kushida: Um... Ayanokōji-kun, right?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Yeah. Um... Kushida?

Kikyō Kushida: Thanks! I'm so glad you remembered my name!

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Yeah... I guess.

Kikyō Kushida: Um... Can we talk?

Kushida: Hey Ayanokoji-kun, isn't this the first time we talked to each other?

Ayanokoji: Yep, remembered it clearly. Although you could have talked to me later since I was pretty hungry that time.

[Eyecatcher]

Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School

At this school, each student will have their own points to be used in place of money when buying goods and services. There is nothing, within the realm of reason, that cannot be bought on campus using points.

Ike: Eyecatcher? What's that?

Tanaguchi: In our world, these eye catchers symbolize that it will be back right after a commercial break. But within those eyecatchers, they show to the audience some facts and rules about the school.

Yamauchi: Why?

Tanaguchi: Isn't it obvious? It is because we still don't know yet all of the rules and regulations about the school yet. Really need to think first before asking Yamauchi.

[Setting: Area of corridor near the stairways]

Kikyō Kushida: Ayanokōji-kun, you seem very close to Horikita-san.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: No, I wouldn't say that…

Kushida: Yeah, I am pretty sure anyone who has known you by now has thought that you and Horikita-san have been pretty close to each other.

Ayanokoji: Well, if you think of it that way, we have always been seen talking to each other all the time so I guess that makes us pretty close.

Horikita: And it is also because this guy has no one to talk to but me.

Ayanokoji: I could say the same thing to you, Horikita

Kikyō Kushida: But you're the only one she ever talks to. I want to be friends with everyone in school. So I asked Horikita-san for her contact information, but she turned me down... She said she doesn't want to be friends with anyone.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Yeah, I think that's just how she is.

Horikita: How do you know that I will be that way, Ayanokoji-kun? It hasn't even been one month since we met.

Ayanokoji: Well, it is through the moment we spend with each other I realized that as much as possible, you tried to avoid as little to no contact with other people unless you are needed to. With that in mind, I really doubt that you would actually accept Kushida's request for your contact information, am I correct?

Horikita: All of what you said is true. I guess you do know a little about me.

[She leans to him forward and holds his hands close to her chest.]

Kikyō Kushida: But I want to be friends with Horikita-san, too! Won't you help me?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Help you? I don't...

Kikyō Kushida: You... won't?

[She looks at him with puppy eyes, which earns her a sigh from Ayanokōji.]

(Mostly) Everyone: So cute!

Kushida: *blushing* Well, I can't say that I am all that cute…

Tanaguchi: Just accept it already, you know that you've worked hard to make that kind of impression to everyone.

Kushida: O-okay Hm? What is Tanaguchi trying to mean?

Ayanokoji: But still, I felt that I am forced to agree to do so.

[Setting: 1st Year D-Class Room]

Sae Chabashira: The head of the Yamato government was known as the "o-kimi". He controlled the powerful families of each region using the uji-kabane system. "Uji" referred to groups that shared the same bloodline, while "Kabane" referred to post and status.

[While Sae Chabashira lectures, Ken Sudō is taking a nap, Kei Karuizawa is checking her phone, Haruki Yamauchi is reading a manga, possibly the Himawari-san (manga), through his tablet. Some of them ostentatiously show their disinterest in Japanese History lectures.]

Ike: Now that I am seeing this in a new perspective, I guess we are pretty stupid to do those things in the first place.

Yamauchi: I agree, if we didn't do those things, we could have saved up some class points at least.

Sae Chabashira: In other words, it was a system where bloodline determined one's post and status.

[Bell rings.]

Sae Chabashira: That's all for today. Please review the material thoroughly.

Sudo: But still though, you can't deny that Sensei is talking like a silent drone in an empty classroom, it was pretty boring to listen to.

Tanaguchi: What do you mean? What she was talking about was fascinating! I mean sure it looks boring but I haven't heard anything about these.

[Some time passed by.]

[Setting: 1st Year D-Class Room]

[Suzune Horikita unzips her bag after packing her equipment and necessities.]

Suzune Horikita: This school really is indulgent. Students play around and nap in class, but the teacher never calls them out. Is this really an advanced school run by the government?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Maybe they want to encourage student autonomy.

Karuizawa: I am sorry, Horikita-san. I really thought you knew something about this school but I guess you were pretty confused as well like the rest of us.

Horikita: Apologies accepted. It is nobody's fault that the school is this way.

Suzune Horikita: Perhaps...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Hey. If you're on your way out, would you come with me?

Suzune Horikita: What are you after?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Does an invitation from me suggest an ulterior motive?

Suzune Horikita: If you'll tell me specifically what you want, I'd be willing to hear you out.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You know that café in the mall, right? The one where lots of girls hang out. Would you go there with me?

Ike: Oh ho, is this a date I am smelling?

Yamauchi: And a good one, he is inviting her to that cafe where most of the girls go to everyday. I heard that almost no boys go there.

Hirata: Well, I went there once with Karuizawa but I am surprised that Ayanokoji-kun and Horikita-san went there as well.

Suzune Horikita: Why me?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I'm not brave enough to go by myself. It feels sort of "no boys allowed."

Suzune Horikita: And there's no one else you can ask? No, I suppose not...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: It pains me to say it, but you're right.

Sudo: Don't worry, Ayanokoji, we respect your guts that time. It takes a real man to say that in front of a woman.

Ike: Yeah, we respect you for that!

Kushida: But I am really sorry, Ayanokoji-kun. You went to make the effort to invite her but everything didn't go as planned in the end.

Ayanokoji: No need to apologize, in fact it is normal of me to do this kind of sarcasm.

[Setting: Café]

Suzune Horikita: It's quite crowded.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Is this your first time coming here, too? Ah, right. You're a loner.

Suzune Horikita: Was that a dig? You are immature.

Hirata: You guys are actually pretty funny sometimes, you know.

Ayanokoji: What do you mean, funny? What she just said isn't what I call funny, more like insulting.

Horikita: And I am definitely not sorry for it.

[Both Kayano Onodera and Nene Mori get up from the table]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Ah. That table's free.

[Both of them bought something for themselves]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You know, I wonder if we look like a couple to the oth—

[Suzune Horikita gives off an annoyed glance.]

[Silence]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Yeah, probably not.

Everybody laughed.

Tanaguchi: But Horikita and Ayanokoji, in all honesty, you guys do look like a good couple but other people on the Internet wish to differ.

Sotomura: What do you mean?

Tanaguchi: What I am saying is that there are some people who argue which is a better pair for Ayanokoji. You'll know what I mean later.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Thinking of what's about to happen is making my stomach hurt.

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji looks at the table beside them where Mei-Yu Wang and Kokoro Inogashira are sitting.]

Mei-Yu Wang: Ready to go?

Kokoro Inogashira: Yeah!

[Mei-Yu Wang and Kokoro Inogashira walk away.]

Kushida: This scene will not be a good one to remember again. I felt that I have angered Horikita-san a lot during this.

Ayanokoji: I have to agree. I wonder how Horikita will take this again?

Kikyō Kushida: Horikita-san! What a coincidence! You, too, Ayanokōji-kun!

[Kikyō Kushida sits beside Suzune Horikita]

Kikyō Kushida: Do you two come here often?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Today's our first time.

Kikyō Kushida: I see. I'm here alone—

Suzune Horikita: I'm leaving

[Suzune Horikita stands up]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Hey, we only just got here.

Suzune Horikita: If Kushida-san is here, you don't need me, do you?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Well... Kushida and I are just classmates.

Suzune Horikita: That's all you and I are, too. Besides... I don't like this. What are you after?

Kikyō Kushida: C-Come on, it was just a coincidence...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Kushida, you should have said, "What's that supposed to mean?"

Kushida: *chuckles* I should have thought of a proper way to respond to that… I am pretty sorry, Horikita-san.

Horikita: *sighs* I never really saw the point of doing this in the first place.

Suzune Horikita: The girls who were sitting here, and the two at the next table over, were all students from Class D. Coincidence?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I'm impressed you recognized them. I didn't even notice.

Suzune Horikita: We came here right after class ended, which means they could only have been in this café for a few minutes. Too soon for them to be leaving.

Hirata: I get it. So the two girls in the next table over them are actually Mei-yu san and Inogashira-san.

Wang: Sorry, Kushida-san, we gave it away.

Inogashira: Yeah, I apologize as well.

Kushida: Oh, you two don't have too. It is my fault that I tried to set Horikita-san up. It was pretty obvious for her in the end. I guess it was pretty stupid of me to do so in the first place.

Kikyō Kushida: Um...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I'm sorry. We set you up.

Suzune Horikita: I thought as much.

Kikyō Kushida: Horikita-san! Please be my friend!

Suzune Horikita: I want you to leave me alone. I won't have trouble in class.

Kikyō Kushida: But you'll be lonely all by yourself...

Suzune Horikita: I have never once felt lonely by myself.

Kikyō Kushida: Ah

Suzune Horikita: You're wasting your time. Every word that comes out of your mouth disgusts me.

Tanaguchi: You know, Horikita-san, as much as it was pretty stupid of her to do that, it was pretty harsh of you to say that.

Horikita: I guess he is right, I should have phrased that properly, I could have hurt her feelings.

Tanaguchi: No, more like fuel even more her hate for you.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Hey, are you sure about this? If you won't be friends with anyone, you'll be alone for the next three years.

[Suzune Horikita takes a few steps before stopping to leave final words to Ayanokōji]

Suzune Horikita: I've been alone for the last nine years, so I don't mind. Longer, if you include kindergarten.

Karuizawa: Wow, that is pretty cold.

Hirata: I never thought you would have that kind of childhood, Horikita-san.

Horikita: *sighs* I never intended to show it to everyone in the first place.

Kikyō Kushida: Sorry. I might have made Horikita-san hate you...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Nah, don't worry about it.

Kikyō Kushida: Maybe I can never be her friend…

Horikita: I am actually really sorry, Kushida for using such offending words to you.

Kushida: Oh, Horikita-san, you don't have to! I mean I was the one who set this up so I have to say sorry to you instead.

[Setting: Outside]

Kikyō Kushida: If I can't even make friends with my own classmates, I guess my goal is still far away.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): I think Horikita is an exception, personally…

Horikita: What do you mean "personally"?

Ayanokoji: Uh...

Chihiro Shiranami: Your hair is always so silky!

Honami Ichinose: You think so!

Kikyō Kushida: Oh, it's Ichinose-san! Ichinose Honami-san from Class B. We became friends yesterday.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: You're even friends with students in other classes?

Kikyō Kushida: Yeah! There are a lot of nice people in Class B. But this school is pretty amazing, huh? There are so many stores, and we get 100,000 yen each month...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: That amount seems a bit excessive to me, though.

Tanaguchi: And having 10 million points is a lot more excessive than I really need. What should I do?

Ike: I mean, you could… you know… if you're generous…

Tanaguchi: Let me guess, give some away? Although I am generous, I wouldn't just give points away just randomly. I am keeping in mind the future here.

Kushida: What about a party?

Tanaguchi: Hm… Maybe I will ask my friend.

Hirata: Your friend?

Tanaguchi: Yeah. She is the other person who will be transferring with me. But she has some stuff to do as well so maybe tomorrow you guys could meet her.

Kikyō Kushida: Yeah... you think so, too? And calling them points makes me spend them without thinking. It really messes with my sense of money.

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji remembered the section in the convenience store where all "free items" are included.]

Kikyō Kushida: I want to be really careful not to overspend. I'll buy the things I have to, of course. Daily necessities like soap and detergent... underwear, and stuff...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: Yeah, Horikita was doing the same thing.

[Kikyō Kushida stands in front of Kiyotaka Ayanokōji and leans to him]

Kikyō Kushida: Oh? So you know how Horikita-san spends her money? You really are close, aren't you?

Ayanokoji: How many times will I have to tell you? Me and Horikita are not close, we are just mere classmates who somehow always meet each other.

Tanaguchi: Whether that is the case or not, just keep in mind that you too have the potential to be the ultimate intellectual couple, you know.

Horikita: ...

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: I just happened to see it.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Um, she's really close…

Ike: *fake cough* Yeah, real close.

Kushida: Sorry, Ayanokoji-kun, I have really made you uncomfortable that time.

Ayanokoji: It's okay, I have no problem with it.

Tanaguchi: *looks at Ike* Oh no. Someone jealous here.

Kikyō Kushida: Hmmm. Well, we'll just leave it at that.

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): It really is true, though...

[Setting: Dorm]

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji puts his bag down the deck and sits down on the bed. He looks at his phone]

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji: 100,000 per month, huh?

Kiyotaka Ayanokōji (Monologue): Most students decided to make the most of their school lives, without thinking too deeply about anything. Day after day, they blew through their monthly allowance of 100,000 like it was nothing. The teacher was very lenient, so in-class conversations, napping, tardiness, and absences became a daily occurrence. Extravagance, debauchery, and indolence were rampant. And then, May 1st arrived.

[Setting: 1st Year D-Class Room]

Kei Karuizawa: Huh? What's going on?

Kanji Ike: Really? You, too?

Kei Karuizawa: How come?

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji looks at his phone to notice his point count is out of date for some reason.]

Karuizawa: Oh, it's that day…

Ike: So this is the day we realized how much of a mistake we underestimated this school. I still remember that month I have no points left to even buy my basic essentials. Sure the free stuff is there but it's not even decent.

Hirata: That's why we need to change something about how we as a class act.

Sae Chabashira: Take your seats. Morning homeroom will now begin.

Haruki Yamauchi: Hey, teacher, we didn't get our points! We're supposed to get them on the first day of the month, right?

Sae Chabashira: No, this month's points have already been allotted.

Haruki Yamauchi: But...

Sae Chabashira: The points have been allotted. I can say that for certain. There is no chance that this class has been overlooked, either.

Kanji Ike: But we didn't get any points!

[Most of the students agreed to what Kanji Ike said.]

Sae Chabashira: What a bunch of idiots you are.

Yukimura: Sensei really hit us in the head as terms of coming to reality, because what she's about to say really hurt.

Sotomura: But we have to accept it, afterall it is our fault that we are being civilized people for a single month.

[The students bewildered to her statement]

Sae Chabashira: A combined total of 98 tardies and absences. 391 instances of talking and cell phone usages in class. Quite a month's work. At this school, your grades and performance evaluations are reflected in the monthly points you're given. My assessment of you has resulted in the loss of all 100,000 points you were to be given. The points you're receiving for this month... are zero.

Tanaguchi: It is very impressive of you, Ms. Chabashira to still be able to monitor your students in a way they don't even know they are being monitored.

Chabashira: If you have been assigned in Class D for the rest of your career, then you will learn that you have to.

Kanji Ike: You mean I have to live on no money this month?

Haruki Yamauchi: Wh-What the heck? No one told us that...

Sae Chabashira: Did you really think that mere high school students were going to be given 100,000 yen a month to spend without a single catch?

[Kiyotaka Ayanokōji gazed at Suzune Horikita]

Sae Chabashira: That's absurd. Use your common sense. If you had doubts, why did you do nothing about them? I told you on the first day, didn't I? This school judges students based on merit. Which means you're all worth nothing. You're garbage.

[Pan out to class]

Tanaguchi: Alright, Class D, that is basically it for Episode 1, now let's continue to Episode 2!

But before the class could even respond, a phone call was heard from Tanaguchi's bag. When he came over and took his phone out, he realized that his friend was calling him.

Tanaguchi: Um, guys, I will be just taking this. Use this time to just, you know, do your stuff, okay?

Hirata: It's okay, take your time and we will take ours.

Tanaguchi: Okay, see you in a minute!

Tanaguchi went outside the classroom and proceeded to find a spot to be alone. When he found one, he proceeded to accept the phone call.

Tanaguchi: Hey, what's up!

?: Hi, Tanaguchi-kun! I just wanted to call you because I have just finished Episode 1 in here, how's yours?

Tanaguchi: We just finished episode 1 as well! Have you talked already with the main cast?

?: Not yet, maybe after Episode 2. And I think you should do yours as well.

Tanaguchi: Okay, maybe I should.

?: Hey **** -chan, could you please over here? We are already ready for Episode 2

?: Okay! I should probably go now, Tanaguchi-kun. See you later!

Tanaguchi: Okay, see you later!

Tanaguchi ended the call and he sighs.

Tanaguchi: This is really getting tiring pretty quick and we are still in Episode 1. But I guess I can admit this is fun. Come to think of it, I didn't finish the first-year arc yet. I guess I should be going.

With that in mind, Tanaguchi went back to the classroom, with a positive smile on his face.
