Upstead (First Kiss)

Chapter 2

Hello guys! Initially I had decided to make this a one shot but after the positive and warm response that I got I decided to further explore this story. Hopefully it has worked. Hope you enjoy. :)

On the ride to Med, both Hailey and Jay felt exhilarated but didn't know what to tell the other person. So they looked at each other from time to time smiling shyly and sincerely hoping the other felt the same as them. As they entered the hospital they kept a significant amount of distance between them, as though their being close was going to reveal the precious moment they had shared. But the team was too shaken up to worry about Jay and Hailey's personal life, but one never knew what Voight saw and knew. In any case, everything seemed to be stabilised and Hailey went to Kim directly giving her a reassuring hug. Kim was glad someone could understand her situation and supported her. Hailey had gone through her fair share of trauma and panic regarding Halstead, because it appeared that Jay loved to put himself in dire situations and either get shot or have sustaining injuries. As this thought completed its route Hailey sighed and made a silent prayer that Jay had not put himself through such a situation today. And after the kiss they had shared today, she wasn't ready to see Jay in such a state ever again. Suddenly, she wanted Jay only to herself and she knew that she would do anything, literally anything, to protect him. She smiled at this thought and saw Jay looking at her intently but softly, a third person would have understood this look as one normal between partners. But who knew what had just transpired at the district!

As people were allowed to meet Adam now, the team went to his room and saw him lying on the bed, looking tired and dull. He smiled lightly and was delighted from within that his team had come to meet him. Kevin was the first to approach him and give him his usual hug, since they had been the two who had been under fire. Kim knowing her limits did only what she could, but made a note to do more when they had a private moment. The rest of the team said their wishes and left the room. It was time to head back to the district, since this case was officially not wrapped up yet. As the team walked towards the exit, save Kim, Voight suddenly called out to Hailey and that caused her to hold her breath. She turned around half looking at Jay and averting her eyes directly towards her Sarge. Before speaking she assured herself that there was no way that Voight knew what had happened, or that even something had happened. She said calmly, "Yes, Sarge?"

"Are you and Halstead done with the paperwork?" he asked normally.

Realising she was in the safe zone she muttered remembering they hadn't even starting working on it, "Uh, yeah. Almost done Sarge."

"Alright, good. I want it on my desk by this evening."

"Copy that," she said and turned around to leave. She noticed Jay hadn't waited for her and she was relieved, the more they behaved like normal the better for them.

He was waiting in the truck, himself wondering what this was about. But as Hailey explained that they were safe he sighed in relief too. Voight just had this way of making people sweat and increase their heart rate. They left for the district a little calmer but nonetheless hoping to find a private moment to discuss what had just happened and what it meant for them. In the district it was impossible to try to find such a moment and both of them accepted that, realising they had to wait till the end of shift. As shift came to an end Jay approached Hailey to ask her where they would meet, but he heard Voight calling him and turned around immediately.

"Jay I need you to come with me. I am going to meet a CI," Voight said.

Jay looked at Hailey but she didn't dare look back at him. He said in an even tone, "Sure, Sarge. Let's go."

This was the thing Voight meant when he said people within the unit could not date each other. The job came first and everybody had to follow that rule. As Voight and Jay left she gathered her things and headed home. As she reached she shot Jay a text asking him to meet her at her place if he could make it and wasn't exhausted after the heavy day. She had got a reply quickly that he would stop by certainly. Hailey smiled once again, delighted that finally they would be able to speak.

An hour later there was a knock on Hailey's door but no one came to open the door. Another knock, and still no response. Jay finally decided to use his spare key, thinking that she was probably asleep, though still wanting to check on her once, to look at her once. As he entered he saw that the living room was dark and he flipped on the switch to find everything normal. But as he moved forward he saw what appeared to be drops of some sort of liquid and he wished to God it wasn't what it appeared to be: blood. He rushed past the couch where he spotted these stains and entered her room. There was more blood on the floor and some on the bed. Jay panicked so much that for a few seconds he wasn't breathing and when he had to, he gasped in horror. What the hell had happened here and where was Hailey? He quickly cleared the house as he was so used to and there was no sign of Hailey. In an instant he realised that this was not the time to let his emotions take over, he had to find Hailey first and fast. He called his Sergeant and Voight told him he would be there with the team, whatever was left of it after this gruesome day. Jay found himself breathing raggedly, this couldn't be happening. This was even more hard to understand and accept after the moment they had in the bull pen. Not that he wouldn't be worried out of his mind if Hailey went missing before this event, but this kiss had changed his entire perspective. He had to find Hailey and he vowed inwardly never to let this happen again. She meant so much more to him than he realised and wished to accept at that particular moment.

That concludes the second chapter and I am excited to continue writing. All of you please drop your comments and let me know what you think. It would really mean a lot. I continued this story because you guys loved it so much and I intend to make into something beautiful. Eagerly looking forward to your feedbacks. Thank you!
