Upstead (First Kiss)
Chapter 4
Hello guys! I am back with the new chapter and I finally feel as though we are getting into the real stuff. We are finally delving into Upstead. Hope you enjoy! :)
What transpired in the few hours at the hospital was a complete blur to Jay. The only thing he seemed to understand was that Hailey had barely made it and was still in a critical condition. The next 24 hours would be crucial. The entire team was present and the only thing they could feel good about was that Hailey was alive, even if it meant they had to wait the next 24 hours to confirm that. Since Hailey had been brought to Med as well, Adam had come to see her and he was not pleased. The anger and hatred was evident in him. Well, the good news was that Booth was finally dead. What happened, how he died, nobody knew. Voight took care of the situation in his own way. If there was an investigation about this, the entire team had only one answer and that was enough to close the case there and then. Soon everyone left one by one and only Jay was there. He couldn't leave and he most certainly did not want to. Someone had attacked Hailey, his Hailey, and he wasn't going to leave her in such a condition. The idea of Hailey being his did not seem foreign or weird, it felt as though he had always protected her as though she were his own.
Jay spent the entire night by Hailey's side, hoping in every second that she would regain consciousness and look at him. But as fate had it, she did not wake up during the night and Jay couldn't help but wonder that something was wrong. The last couple of days had been emotionally taxing and physically tiring, and if this continued he was bound to break down. Will arrived early in the morning, hoping to check on Hailey.
"Will, what's wrong with her? Why isn't she waking up?" Jay asked almost crying.
"Jay, she will wake up. Just give her some more time. The medicines we gave her are strong and the anaesthesia combined with them takes longer. Be patient, she will be fine," Will tried to assure his brother himself not certain about the outcome.
Jay could only nod. He didn't know what to say or what to expect anymore. Suddenly a hand tugged at his fingers and he became alert instantly. He had forgotten that he had been holding Hailey's hand since last night. And it seemed that that very hand was moving now. He got up immediately and tried to see whether Hailey had opened her eyes. She had, and the delight that brought to his heart was exponential. He called Will frantically and in a while everything seemed to be stable. Since Hailey had regained consciousness there was no longer a threat to her health.
Once everyone left the room Jay said in a soft voice, almost inaudible, "Hi."
"Hi," Hailey replied with a slight smile on her face.
Jay's heart was breaking at every moment. He felt terrible that someone like her had to go through such horrific things, and he couldn't even do anything. She was so tender, so soft, so kind, and most importantly, she was his.
"Jay," Hailey whispered. At that Jay leaned in ready to do almost anything she asked. She continued in the same soft voice, "When am I going to get out of here?"
Jay couldn't help but smile for the first time in two days. Yes, the last time he had smiled was when Hailey had kissed him and made him feel as though he were flying. He began softly, "Hailey, you know I can't help you out in that department. And for once I am going to agree with Will. You need to stay here as long as he says it's okay for you to leave."
"But I am fine," Hailey protested.
"No. And we are not discussing this anymore. You need to rest."
And just like that the entire day went by. Everyone had come to meet Hailey when they had a free moment. Crimes had not stopped just because a detective was in the hospital. One would have liked to believe that but the world was a messed up place and one didn't know what one would encounter the next second. Finally in the evening Will thought it was a good time to discharge Hailey. Hailey was delighted at the news but Jay seemed unhappy. But Will assured him there was no danger anymore and Hailey could rest at home. Although she had to come back for a check-up after a week. At that Hailey grimaced but Jay felt at ease. Jay had to confirm one final thing before leaving and he didn't know to ask Will about it.
"Hey, Will," Jay began, looking at the floor, not having enough courage to look his brother in the eye. "I just wanted to ask you something. It is clear that Hailey was sexually assaulted," at that he could feel his blood heating up and the raw anger overtaking him. But he continued, "Did he…," he trailed off, not being able to complete the sentence. He tried again, "Was she...," but failing once more.
Will understood what his brother was trying to say and he said, placing a hand on Jay's shoulder, "No."
That single word was enough and Jay didn't want to hear or talk about this matter ever again in his life. So the bastard had lied, he hadn't been able to get what he wanted so badly. And now he was dead, and he would never lay a hand on anyone. Jay shook his head, forcing out Booth's thoughts from his mind. He thanked his brother and left.
The ride to Hailey's place was a quiet one, neither Jay nor Hailey knew what to say. As Jay opened the door he saw Hailey hesitating for a second. He understood immediately what was on her mind and he instantly put a reassuring hand on her shoulder silently letting her know that nothing was wrong and she didn't have to be afraid anymore. But boy, was he going to be wrong about that. It was one thing to have a bad experience and a whole other thing to relive that experience every second of every day, thought Hailey. She really didn't know how she was going to overcome this, and at the moment it seemed impossible to be able to do just that. She knew Jay was aware of her condition but he had no idea how deep this wound and fear were and in a way she didn't want Jay to ever see this side of her.
As she entered her home she saw that there were no signs of anything that would remind her of the horrific night and she inwardly thanked Jay for making sure of that. Then she decided this was the moment to speak, and she began, "Listen Jay, you should go home and get some rest. I am fine now and I am at home as well. There's nothing to worry about."
Jay looked at her as though she had spoken in a foreign language. "I am not leaving and there is nothing that you say or do that will change my mind. So just bear with me."
Hailey knew this conversation had ended and she was tensed now. She didn't want Jay to see her most vulnerable and emotional side, not that he already hadn't seen it. But what he had seen was the extent to which she was comfortable in showing him.
"Fine, I am going to bed then," she said hoping to escape from his sight as soon as possible.
"Yeah, that's a good idea Hailey. I'll be here if you need anything," Jay said, glad that there wasn't an argument about this.
Hailey nodded and entered her bedroom, which in its turn was fresh and showed no sign of assault. She changed and lay down on her bed hoping she would get through the night without any disturbances.
Jay was lying on the couch, finally at ease that all that could go wrong had gone wrong and Hailey was safe now. It had really been a few hard and exhausting days for him. He shut his eyes in relief when suddenly he heard sounds. He opened his eyes instantly wanting to make sure he wasn't dreaming or imagining things. The sounds still continued, and now they sounded like a voice. His brain put two and two together and he rushed to Hailey's room. She was on her bed frantically swinging her arms and what appeared to be, kicking her legs in the blanket. All the while she was half saying half screaming, "No! No! Stop! Please!"
Jay raced to her side of the bed and grabbed her hands firmly but softly and stopped her frantic movements. Her legs were still doing their work and he had to hold onto her hands with his one hand and attempt to stop her legs from kicking with the other. He succeeded after getting a few knocks here and there. By then Hailey had awoken and she was drenched in sweat. From her look Jay could sense that he was not the person she was expecting to see. It angered him to even think that she was having nightmares of that monster. When she seemed to understand what was happening Jay let go of her hands and legs and sat down facing her. Hailey was still panting but she was trying to say something, "I am sorry."
Jay pulled her in for a hug. Her legs wrapped around her his back and that's when he realised he had discarded his T-shirt. Her bare legs touching his bare skin caused him to hold his breath. As things seemed to calm down he noticed that she was only wearing a lose T-shirt which could fit in two of her. As his hands rubbed her back he realised she wasn't wearing a bra either. These little details caught his attention in way they shouldn't. Now they were both seated on the bed, legs wrapping each other's backs. This was as close as they had ever been and Jay's member was heating up registering the proximity between both of them. Hailey was wearing a small panty that did little to cover her core, but it was something at least and Jay was glad about that.
Hailey pulled Jay closer and he could see that she was shaking beneath him. He pulled her in tighter and realised she was sobbing silently but profusely against his bare chest, the tears trickling down. That broke something in him and it took all the strength he had not to break down at that particular moment. Their closeness revealed to Jay that her breasts were pushed against his chest and there was a constant heaving of her chest against him. He couldn't fathom the pain she was undergoing then, but he knew he had to do something to make her feel better. They sat there for what seemed like hours and Jay did not want to let go of her. Her breasts pressed to him, her bare legs wrapped around his bare back, her almost nudity gave Jay an erotic feeling that he discarded the moment it entered his mind. He shouldn't be thinking on those lines, he scolded himself. Hailey was in pain and he needed to be there for her. The rest could be left for later.
That concludes this chapter and I have a feeling the following chapters will be on similar lines. Let's see. Meanwhile, all of you please let me know what you think. Because your comments and feedbacks are what encourage me to write more and better. Thank you!
