It was a warm Sunday night in Paris France. Cerise was in front of the T.V. watching a black and white movie.
"I'll tell you what I'm gonna give you Snakes…" the T.V said. The man picked up a gun. Cerise was slightly excited about this part.
"I'm gonna give you to the count of ten to get your ugly yella no-good keyster off my property before I pump your guts full of lead."
Then Alfredo came downstairs with Auggie in his arms, checking up on her.
"Oh Hey Cerise, whatcha watching?" Alfredo asked her
"1 2 10" then gunshots fired in the T.V. along with laughing. Unfortunately, the gunshots woke up Auggie and he began to cry in his father's arms.
"Shh, Auggie, it's okay, it's just the T.V." Alfredo comforted. Cerise then turned down the television and helped her father comfort her baby brother.
Cerise luckily turned to her father and lip-synced her favorite line from the T.V.
"Keep the change you filthy animal…" Cerise then gave a smile and a bow, to which her father gave a small chuckle. She got her notebook and wrote him a message
I was watching Angels with Filthy Faces...I love that part…
"I'm sure it is...You should get ready for tomorrow…" Alfredo said rocking his slightly antsy son. Cerise tilted her head.
"It's your first day of school tomorrow…" Cerise had a look of confusion and was a look of bewilderment.
"I thought the first day of school was next week?" She thought.
"Colette prepared your uniform...You've never been to school before, have you…"
Cerise sadly shook her head. Since she was in the country house, she never really got too much of an education. Her mother taught her how to read and write, but since she couldn't speak, writing was the child's strong point.
"Hey, It's gonna be okay...the first day of school is gonna be easy...I promise…"
Cerise wasn't too sure but she departed to bed not before kissing her father and baby brother good night
The next morning, Cerise jolted awake when she heard a loud alarm clock next door, followed by her twin siblings crying.
"LINGUINI…." She heard her adoptive mother yell.
Cerise looked in the mirror after she got dressed for school. She saw that her hair grew longer since she was with her new family(Think Molly Ringwald's hair from The Breakfast Club) She looked at her uniform. She was wearing a white short-sleeved collared shirt underneath a navy blue uniform dress that matched the color of her translator. Cerise felt something inside of her about her uniform
"Was this something I have to wear for the school year?" She thought.
"Wow, you look Magnifique Cerise…" Colette said through the mirror with Auggie in her arms. Cerise bowed and smiled
"OWW" The girls heard Alfredo yelp. "Renee, what did Daddy say about the little beard"
"I guess, She likes to pull…" Colette chuckled with Cerise silently giggling with her.
Colette got dressed to take Cerise to school, while Alfredo stayed and looked after the twins until Colette came back
"Renee, Auggie, Say bye to Cerise, say bye to big sister" Alfredo cooed. He held both babies and tried to get them to wave goodbye to Cerise, who waved back sweetly in response.
It was a lovely morning in Paris for a motorcycle ride. Cerise clamped onto Colette during the ride. She was lucky her dress did come up
When the two arrived, Colette gave Cerise her books and her schedule. Cerise had a look of fear, glancing at the large building
"It's okay Cheri, I'll go in with you…" Colette reassured her. She knew Cerise has never been to a school before. She and Alfredo took a tour of the school before sending her there and they thought it would be a perfect school for Cerise
When the girls entered the building, they saw that the students were talking and the teacher saw the two ladies and she came over to talk to Colette. Cerise gave a big smile to the teacher who introduced himself as Monsieur Monet.
Cerise typed on her translator Nice to meet you Monsieur
Colette assured the teacher that she only needed the translator to talk which the teacher understood.
"Time to go Cerise…" Colette told her daughter. Cerise and Colette share an embrace and they go their separate ways.
Cerise tried to find an open seat. Most of the students looked at her and it made her feel intimidated.
"Hey, You can seat with me" a voice called her. She turned to see an African American girl with two high puffs and a uniform that is similar to hers. Cerise smiled and sat next to her
"I know how it feels to be the new girl in school…" Cerise nodded her head. She typed on her translator
I've never been to school before
"Really, Not ever…" Cerise shook her head. "Well if it makes you feel better I've never been to a french school before…"
Cerise turned to her. "Well, I moved to France because my mom got a job...I was from California...But I think France is prettier than California...Oh, I forgot, My name is Gemini...Like the zodiac sign, but I'm actually an Aquarius, anyway, what's your name?" the girl
My name is Cerise Cerise said typing on her translator
"Cerise...I like that name...It's really pretty…" Gemini stated.
I like your name too
"Wanna hang out with me and a few friends at lunch?" Gemini asked
Cerise happily nodded her head. As class started, Cerise smiled and paid attention. She's never had friends before and Gemini was the first friend she's ever had, well besides Alfredo, Colette, Anton Ego, and her baby siblings.
When lunch came around, Cerise had a tray of food walking around the cafeteria trying to look for Gemini.
"CERISE…." She heard a familiar voice yelled. She saw Gemini waving and she gently raced over to the table and sat down. Gemini was joined by a blonde boy in a school uniform, an Indian boy, and a boy with black hair.
The blonde boy kept staring at Cerise as if he was in a trance. She saw that his cheeks were red. Cerise blushed and smiled at him. The boy in the black hair also eyed her too, smiling
"Cerise, this is Tony, Tony this is Cerise, She's new" Gemini introduced the two
"Uh Uh, Ni-Nice to meet you" Tony the blonde boy shook Cerise's hand. Even them touching hands, they both blushed
Pleased to meet you Tony Cerise typed.
"Pardon me, but My name is Rafael…." the Indian boy spoke. "And this is Francois"
Nice to meet all of you guys….
"Our pleasure Cerise, Welcome to the 4th grade…." Rafael told her.
"Well well Well," a snarky voice said
"Oh no…" Gemini rolled her eyes. A group of blonde-haired girls came over to their table and one girl eyed Cerise
"New girl alert…." said one blonde-haired girl
"Is it me or do I smell a loser about...What's your name"
Cerise didn't say anything but she looked up and down at them
"What's wrong, unpopularity got your tongue" this caused laughter within their own group
"Can't you idiots tell she's mute?" Tony told the girls off
"She's mute...Oh poor you...too bad, you probably might've had an ugly voice anyway…" said the leader girl
"Come on guys leave her alone...What did she do to you?" Gemini fired
"Shut it coon…" another blonde girl said
"EXCUSE ME?!" Gemini stood up
"Is there a problem over here?" asked a teacher's assistant
"Yeah, these girls are bullying us…" Gemini told her
"No, we're not"
"Yes, you are…"
"Girls, you know the rules, no bullying" the girls rolled their eyes and they leave
Gemini sat down with her hands on her head. Cerise reached over to her and was about to give her a hug
"Coon is a word that my mom and dad taught me about...If you look around, I'm the only young black girl in the school, so I guess you can say I'm special I guess…" Gemini sank
Cerise then typed on her translator Well, I'm the only mute girl here...Everyone's special...In their own way and it's okay...Your my friend no matter what
Gemini's dark brown eyes look at Cerise's hazel eyes and She smiled.
"Thanks, Cece...Can I call you Cece, A nickname for Cerise?" Gemini asked
Cerise nodded her head
"Hey, guys...I think recess is about to start…" Francois reminded them
"You're gonna love this Cerise…" Tony said excitedly. The five kids along with the rest of the kids run outside to play.
Gemini, Tony, and Rafael taught Cerise most of the recess games, like tag, hide and seek, they even taught her to play pretend...Which was something that she was fond of.
Despite the bullying she got at lunch, it was a good first day.
When the five kids sat on the stairs waiting for their parents, Cerise told them about the restaurant but didn't tell them about the rats
"No way, your parents own a restaurant...What's it called?" Gemini exclaimed
La Ratatouille
"Maybe we can all have dinner there…" Tony suggested
"What about your parents Gemini…."
"My mom does fashion designing...She made most of my clothes…"
Cerise learned that Tony's parents worked at a police station as investigators, Rafael's parents are working accountants, and Francois's parents are teachers."
"Cerise…" She heard a familiar voice call. She turned around to see her father carried a stroller where her baby brother and sister are in
"Aww Cece, you never told me that you have a baby brother and sister" Gemini aww.
Gemini slowly walked to them and they stared at her with curiosity
"Hi you guys, I'm Gemini...I'm your big sister's friend…" Gemini cooed
"How-how are you so good with babies?" Alfredo asked Gemini
"I have 3 baby brothers named Jim, Kirk and George, they're triplets…"
The babies then giggle at Gemini
"I guess they like you…"
Cerise signed to her father
"Oh, this is your new friend…"
"My name is Gemini…" Gemini introduced herself
"Oh like the zodiac…"
"Yeah...but I'm actually an Aquarius...it's the same with my mom...Her name is Pisces but she's a Taurus…"
"I'm Cerise's new friend too…" Tony went up to Cerise's father
"I'm tony, these guys are Rafael and Francois…"
"Well uh, Nice to meet you guys…" Alfredo said sheepishly
"We'll see you tomorrow Cece...Bye"
Cerise waved goodbye to her new friends
"Cece?" Alfredo asked
It's a nickname for Cerise…
"So uh...How's was school today?"
It was really good. I think I'm gonna like this school Father.
"That's good, well Let's head home to have some lunch…" Cerise smiled and nodded her head and off they went for an afterschool snack.
