And another chapter! Woo! So yeah this was supposed to be all one chapter but then when I wrote it all out it was like 40 pages so broke it up into two lol. Anywho lots of good info in this chapter so read on and review! Adding in some more OC's into this chapter as well so just roll with it, they're needed for the plot.
Disclaimer: I do not own Naruto, only my own characters and ideas.
The next day Kyuu was relaxing under her cherry tree after a long morning of training. She yawned tiredly and stretched out. She had been up all night contemplating everything that happened within the exam so far. She wondered what to expect in the final matches both hers and Gaara's. Gaara was what she dwelled on the most, after seeing him lose it in his fight against Lee she was worried about him, but was unable to speak to him after they were dismissed. "How can I help him…." She mused and found herself dozing off under the tree.
Kyuu awoke what felt like a short time later when she felt a presence near her. She shot her eyes open and sat up to see that Gaara had entered the clearing and was watching her. "Hey, what's up man?" She grinned, standing up and taking a step towards him.
"I come here a lot now."He spoke looking around the clearing, which was true after the first night she showed him this spot he came back frequently.
"Told ya it was peaceful here." She laughed.
Kyuu smiled at him for a moment then looked off to the side and clasped her hands behind her back, rocking back and forth on her feet. "Soooo…." She trailed off, wondering why he was here.
Gaara looked at her for a moment longer than approached her. He picked up her hand and looked at it, turning her palm over in his. "Uh… can I help you?" Kyuu asked confused.
"There isn't even a trace of the injury from yesterday." He stated as he finished examining her hand.
"Oh… well yeah I heal fast, I mean it was a pretty deep wound and there was still a bit of a mark after my fight but it was completely healed by last night." She answered, confused by his actions.
"Did it hurt? Getting stabbed by that spear?"
"Uhh…yeah…" She answered as if it was obvious. "How did it feel when Lee actually managed to land a blow on you?" She asked in understanding.
"….painful…" He concluded memories of the fight causing him to scowl.
"You got pretty banged up in that fight, granted you didn't bleed, but you got a good idea on what it feels like for the rest of us who do get injured. Though my pain tolerance is a lot higher than most and I'd be willing to bet yours is a lot less since you're not used to being hurt."
Gaara stared at her for a moment and let go of her hand. "Your brother, is he a vampire too?" He asked suddenly.
"My brother?" Kyuu asked surprised, wondering why Gaara wanted to talk about him. "…Yes he is…" She admitted.
"Is he like you?"
"Like me? No he's a full on vampire. I… I was the one who turned him… in order save his life." She explained and looked off to the side.
"Is it an easy thing to do?"
"No. Its hard and it can kill you." She answered, turning to stare at him. "Don't say you came here because you want me to turn you into a vampire too cuz the answer is no. I'm never doing that again." She added. Haku she felt she had no choice but to turn in order save his life and repay her debt. She'd never just go around changing people because they might think being a vampire was cool.
"That's not why I'm here." He answered.
"Oh?" Kyuu asked curiously. "I doubt you're here to talk about my brother either, I mean Temari seems a little intrigued by him, but I highly doubt you're the kind to get involved in your siblings affairs. " She added.
Gaara stared at her for awhile before speaking up. "I researched vampires…after I met you…" He began.
"Why?" Kyuu asked curiously.
"I thought it might help me understand."
"Understand what?"
"What it is about you that affects me so much." He responded, sounding irritated.
Kyuu stared at him in confusion though a light blush did rush to her cheeks at his words. She was having some kind of effect on him at least. Even if it seemed to trouble him that she did. "Did it help?" She decided to ask.
"No. Most of what I read wasn't helpful. Though some things seemed to fit you it was mostly a kind of jumbled mess of information."
"Well that's to be understandable. There are many different breeds of vampires and most people think we're just a legend in the first place. What's put down in books is usually speculation but some people do tend to get stuff right."
"What breed of vampire are you?" He demanded.
"Honestly I don't know. I don't know what clan I belong to because my dad died when I was so young. All I know is that he was a member of an elite clan. Couldn't tell you which one though."
"Your powers are talked about in the books… "
"Inhumane strength, speed, and whatnot, yeah."
"You're also supposed to be sophisticated creatures."
"Well guess they missed me on that one." Kyuu laughed, still very unsure about where Gaara was going with the conversation but amazed he was talking so much. She usually had such a rough time getting him to say anything but he definitely seemed in the mood to talk and that also caused her a bit of concern. It wasn't like him. Was he still a little unstable from getting shaken up so much during this exam?
"I read some more last night and read something else as well…" He began, seeming to get a little agitated again.
"Oh? What you read?" Kyuu asked curious about what he could have read in a book that would make him mad at her.
"Your kind is supposed to be irresistible to us humans. You're supposed to be beautiful creatures that posses a certain charm, like a spell that you use to ensnare your victims. The men are supposed to have such a charm that it can turn any woman into an obsessive fangirl…" He began explaining and Kyuu cut in.
"Is that so? Well then maybe I should go investigate on whether my dear friend Sasuke is a blood sucker or not. He's got almost every girl in the village close to his age as a fangirl." She laughed and paused as a thought occurred to her. "If you're worried about my brother, I promise he hasn't used his manly charms to woo your sister into ensnarement. Psh the boy doesn't have any manly charms in the first place. Womanly charm sure, but he's not very macho." She laughed though she doubted Gaara was worried about anything like that.
"The females…" Gaara continued on, acting as if he hadn't heard her. Kyuu stopped chuckling to herself and listened to what he was saying. "The females use their beauty to lure men in and then drive them crazy with lust and obsessions, ensnaring them with some spell." He finished and Kyuu was surprised he was glaring at her as he did so.
"Well… I can ensure you that I haven't ensnared anyone, ever. Psh you'd have to be gorgeous first in order to lure some guy in and then what the hell would I do with some guy as my slave anyway? I promise no ensnarement from me." She laughed, trying to ease the tension a bit.
She was not expecting Gaara to suddenly grab onto her shoulders and shove her back into the tree, pinning her to it. "You have! You've ensnared me damn it!" He hissed out and Kyuu couldn't stop the blush that spread across her shocked face by both his words and his actions.
"You've put some type of damned spell on me that won't let me leave you alone! You're always in my head; you're driving me even more insane! Your tricks, your games with the mind, you've done something! Get rid of it. Now! I can't take this aggravation anymore. I want to hate you and then I don't, I want to kill you and then I don't, I want to…. This confusion is driving me mad." He snapped out, whatever restraints he had gone as the words came tumbling out.
Kyuu just stared at him in shock and her blush darkened as he took a step closer to her, no longer pinning her with his hands but rather pinning her to the tree with his body. Gaara pressed himself against her and moved one of his hands from her shoulder to her throat, grasping it while at the same time using his thumb to tilt her chin up towards him. "I want to…" He breathed out, bringing his mouth dangerously close to hers before stopping. His hand on her throat tightened and he moved his head farther away from her. "Half of me wants nothing more than to kill you…" He began again, staring at his hand around her neck. Kyuu remained still, waiting to see what he was going to do or say next. "I want to see your blood mix with my sand, to see you dead by my hands and be rid of this confusion forever. If I kill you then it will all go away." He finished, eyes narrowing and hand squeezing just a little tighter before he loosened his grip. "The other half wants to keep you alive." He spoke again, looking from his hand now loosely around her throat and then to her face watching her calmly (excluding the blush) stare at him and listen to what he was saying rather than be terrified by either his words or actions. "That half of me wants to keep you near me, to feel your body against mine, to hold you, to…" He trailed off and Kyuu felt him press himself firmly against her again and he brought his face close to hers once more.
"I want to get rid of this confusion. If I kill you I know it will go away but every time I try…" He muttered and pulled back a little bit again. "I don't understand what you've done to me, all these things run through my head and I can't think straight. All I see in my mind is you and it just makes me angrier! All the lies you've told me since I've met you run through my head and I hate it. I want to silence you forever but the lies…they bring comfort…I don't…I can't take it! Half of me lusts for your blood and the other lusts for you. What's wrong with me? What the hell did you do to me?!" He snapped out and his grip retightened around her neck in response to his anger.
Kyuu stared at him patiently, not affected by the constant squeezing and releasing of her windpipe. She now had her blush under control and let out a small exasperated sigh before answering him. It was going to take a lot of work to get passed his crazy and get him to understand. "I promise you Gaara, I have done nothing to you. I haven't cast any spell, I haven't done any mind tricks, and I didn't ensnare you. I've done nothing but be kind to you and tell you the truth- not lies, something you've seemed deprived of as a child. Honesty and love that's all I've given you and that's all I've done to you. Showed you what it's like to have a friend that cares for you." She explained calmly.
"You're lying." He hissed out taking a step away from her. She had to be lying she had to have done something to him to get into his head like this. Love, kindness, friendship? That didn't mean anything, they were empty words. He couldn't comprehend them.
"I swear to god I am being honest with you Gaara. I always have been and you have no idea how irritating it is that you refuse to see that." She responded, getting frustrated that he once again wouldn't believe her.
Kyuu fixed him with a slight glare, not an angry one, but one that showed how serious she was with what she said. Gaara also glared at her, but this glare was one of anger, anger and frustration. They continued to glare at each other for several long moments before Kyuu let out a startled yelp and found herself pinned to the tree by him once more. This time however instead of pushing her into the tree by her shoulders he had grabbed onto her hands and pinned them to either side of her head while pushing her back into the tree with his body. The blush returned to Kyuu's face one more time as he did this but she continued to make eye contact with him, waiting to see what he would do, she was sure if her heart beat like a humans it would be pounding in her chest like crazy. As it was with his body flush up against hers, she felt his heart beating against her chest and the rapid speed of it, like he had just run for miles. Gaara leaned his head in again, however this time went to put his mouth near her ear.
"You'll stop doing this to me or you'll regret it." He whispered before releasing Kyuu and disappearing in a whirl of sand.
Kyuu blinked in shock for a few minutes, allowing some grains of left over sand to fall into her hand before she heaved a great sigh and sunk down to her knees and then onto her butt. "What the hell was that about!" She exclaimed, now that he was gone so was her calm composer and the blush she had been fighting finally won and took over her face. "Bloody bastard acting that way!" She shouted, shaking a fist at the sky. "Trying to say he's the confused one. Fuck that, I'm not the one running around acting like a lunatic and not able to make up my mind about anything. Stupid, crazy, stubborn, hot, jackass." She grumbled and blushed more as she realized she called him hot out loud. "I mean no, not hot, just a jackass. Trying to act all macho and forceful with shoving me into the tree like that. Total dick move really, totally not a turn on or anything..." She concluded, nodding her head at her logic and ignoring the little voice in her head that said otherwise.
"Not to interrupt the extremely entertaining conversation you're having with yourself but uh, are you Kyuu by chance?" A voice suddenly spoke and Kyuu snapped to attention.
Kyuu watched a girl step into the clearing while scratching the back of her head sheepishly. "How long have you been here?" Kyuu demanded, horrified someone had heard what she was saying to herself and even more concerned that the girl had overheard her conversation with Gaara.
"Just since you started talking to yourself. I was out looking for someone and I saw… errr I saw that redheaded boy pinning you to the tree right before disappearing and then before I could come out and say something you kinda just started to talk to yourself and I thought it was funny so…yeah…" She explained.
"Yeah… let's not talk about anything you saw or heard ok?" Kyuu stated, standing up. "You asked if I was Kyuu? I'm assuming that's who you're looking for out here and that would be me." She added.
"Oh, great. I'm Mitsune by the way." She introduced.
Now that Kyuu had overcome her initial shock she took in the girl's appearance. She looked like she could have been close to the same age as her, maybe a little older, had medium length dark brown hair, pale blue eyes, and wore all black. Black baggy pants, a black t-shirt, and black shoes. The leaf headband was tied around her waist like a belt. Kyuu picked her brain to try to remember who she was and recalled a few facts about her. She had arrived to the village a few months prior to Kyuu and was a Chunnin, she got a long with most of the Genin and other people her age, but usually didn't talk about herself much. That was about all Kyuu could recall about the girl though.
"So anyway, the Hokage asked for me to bring you to him." Mitsune stated.
"Hmm? What's the old geezer want now." Kyuu mused thoughtfully.
"Beats me I'm just the messenger." She answered and began walking in the direction back to the village. Kyuu followed. "I hope I didn't interrupt anything…" She stated apologetically.
"No not at all… we were just having a discussion."
"Ha a discussion? I thought I heard some yelling from the distance and then when I get there, you're all intimate. Though judging by what you were talking to yourself about, seemed to take you by surprise to."
"It wasn't THAT intimate, we weren't doing anything." Kyuu defending, really all he did was pin her down and get close to her. No reason to freak out (or get turned on). "Also I said don't talk about that!" She added glaring daggers at the girl who just laughed.
"Sorry sorry. I'll keep the little lovers spat a secret I swear." She laughed.
"It wasn't even that! We're not lovers trust me." Kyuu responded in agitation.
"Ok ok ok." Mitsune grinned. When they returned to the village she waved to her and went in a separate direction. Kyuu headed to the Hokage's tower on her own and was thankful for the silence as she tried to process everything Gaara had said and done. As she reached the doors to the tower however, she put Gaara out of her mind and instead wondered what the Hokage could want with her now.
Kyuu knocked on the door to his office and waited for a response. She heard him tell her to come in and opened the door. "You wanted to see me?" She asked when she entered the room.
"Ah good, you're here. Shut the door and take a seat would you." He responded, nodding to a chair placed across from his desk.
Kyuu walked over and sat down, plopping her feet up onto his desk and crossing her arms over her chest. "So whatcha want? I have a busy schedule of doing nothing for a month I need to get back to." She grinned.
"You're not going to train?" He asked curiously and politely pushed her feet off his desk.
"Heh me train? You're kidding right? I can win this shit easily." Kyuu laughed and sat up in her chair after getting her feet knocked off and losing balance. "Nahh I'm going to train just later." She admitted with a shrug.
"You never change Kyuu." He laughed. "Or rather, I should say since Naruto got a hold of you, you've never changed." He added.
"Well I could go back to being a psychopath if you rather have that then what Naruto turned me into?" She offered with a laugh.
"I think we're all better off with you this way." He responded.
"Mhm, so why'd you want to see me?" She asked again.
"I was listening to what you had to say during your preliminary match, I think we should talk." He began.
"Am I in trouble for admitting it?" Kyuu asked curiously.
"No, it is your choice to discuss what you are, but I urge you to exercise some caution when you do so. You took a risk telling her and everyone else in the room about what you are."
"I guess…" She agreed reluctantly, in hindsight maybe she should have avoided the conversation after all.
"You put yourself into risky situations quite often."
"Kind of comes with the territory. Being a ninja isn't exactly a safe line of work." Kyuu retorted.
"That's not what I meant."
"….I know." She agreed and stared at his desk in thought. So he just brought her here to scold her for opening her mouth? Wasn't exactly what she wanted to hear. As she brooded a piece of paper caught her eye. It was a report he apparently was reading before she came in. She tried not to be nosey but a few sentences jumped out at her. One of the four remaining sound ninja was killed on a rooftop the previous night, his body crushed. It didn't take Kyuu much to figure out who was responsible for that one. Though a second body was found in a different location, it was the examiner from their matches and his wounds didn't match up to Gaara's mo so she was unsure about that one. Two deaths in one night concerned her though.
"Sir… that paper…" She asked before she could stop herself.
"Nothing for you to worry about." The Hokage answered and moved it out of sight. "Now Kyuu, I didn't bring you here just to scold you." He began attempting to distract her from what she had read. "I asked you here because I felt, in light of your match; you should know more about yourself." He continued.
"…Know more about myself…?" Kyuu wondered, what on earth was he getting at, how could he know more about her then she did.
"I've been contemplating on when I should tell you, I wanted to make sure you were ready to hear it. You're not the first vampire I've met.." He began.
"I'm not? What were you waiting to tell me?"
"I knew your father."
Kyuu froze in response to what he said. He knew her father? She had never been able to find anyone who could tell her about either of her parents. The Hokage knew all along and never told her? Why? Why was it kept a secret from her? "You knew him?" She asked when she found her voice.
"Yes and let me tell you, the difference between you two is striking. He was very refined, never rude, always well mannered, and reserved." He answered.
"How did you know him?" Kyuu demanded, she didn't want to hear how different she was form her father she wanted to hear about how they met.
"Your father, he lived in this village for quite some time. Like you I gave him permission to stay here provided he didn't feed off the villagers and unlike you he told few about his real nature. Only a few others knew." He answered.
"My dad… he's from Konoha?" She asked in surprise.
"Yes. Though he kept a low profile and I doubt few remember him now." He replied.
"You said… a few others knew who he was? Who are they?" She asked eager to see if there were more people she could talk to about her father.
"This… this is where we're going to have to make an agreement to keep this between us."
"What?"
"I will tell you, it's a complicated story and you must keep this information to yourself."
"…Okay, if I have to I will. Tell me about my dad." She agreed.
"One of the three others that knew who you were was Minato, the fourth Hokage, Naruto's father…" He stated and it took Kyuu a moment to process this.
"Naruto…his father's the fourth?" She asked in shock, though when she thought about it, after seeing a picture of the fourth long ago she realized Naruto looked almost exactly like him.
"Yes he was, he was also your uncle."
"…Wait what?" Kyuu demanded in confusion. She was related to Naruto!?
"As I was saying, Minato knew about your father being a vampire because your father married his twin sister." He continued to explain.
"What…?" Kyuu muttered, having trouble comprehending this. Both her parents were from Konoha, no one ever told her, and no one bothered to mention she had real family out there. "So Naruto is my cousin?" She asked as she came to terms with this.
"Yes."
"And does he know?"
"…No he doesn't. Naruto doesn't know who his parents are let alone who he might be related to."
"Why doesn't he know? Why are you telling me and not him!" Kyuu demanded suddenly.
"You know what's inside Naruto don't you?" He asked and she nodded. "Naruto's parents died the night Naruto was born when the Kyuubi attacked the village. Minato sealed the fox inside of Naruto and he and his wife Kushina gave their lives in the process."
"I knew the fox was sealed inside Naruto by the fourth, why would he do that to his own son?"
"Minato did it because Naruto was his son. He sacrificed everything for the safety of the village and although it may seem cruel to do that to your own child, it would be crueler to do it to someone else's. He trusted Naruto would harness the power from the fox and live on strong because he was their son."
"So why, if Naruto doesn't know who his parents are, why hasn't anyone told him? He should know his parents were heroes."
"I don't think many people knew they were his parents. Naruto was born that same night and so many people died. It would have been nearly impossible to figure out who his parents were in that mess if you didn't already know."
"Well why haven't you told him then?" She demanded in irritation.
"Naruto needs to find out on his own, he has a path he needs to follow and he will understand later." He answered. "And as I said this is between us, so this goes without saying but you're not to tell him either." He added.
"Seriously? You drop a bomb like this on me and expect me not to say something to him? I can't tell him we're cousins?" She demanded in frustration.
"No you can't. This is classified information regarding Naruto. I've told you because its connected to your own parents and you have a right to know who they are."
"Naruto has a right to know his own family!" She snapped angrily.
"And he will. In time he will know and understand all of it. There are people who will be able to talk to him and guide him through it all. You on the other hand have no one. The only living person who knew anything about your parents is me. So if I don't tell you no one will."
Kyuu sulked in her seat but nodded reluctantly. She longed to rush out and tell Naruto that they were family that she had a real family not just a friend she considered a brother. She understood she couldn't though, in order to explain that she'd have to explain who his parents were and although she wished she could tell him that too she understood the Hokage's desire to keep things a certain way for Naruto's benefit.
"So… tell me about my parents then at least. Assuming I'm allowed to know about them." Kyuu decided to speak up.
"They were both great people. Like Naruto, you get your looks from your father and your personality from your mother. Your mother was best friends with Kushina." He began. "Your father and Minato were also like brothers once he arrived to the village. Your father was very withdrawn and didn't want much to do with others, but something about Minato made him think differently and they clicked. Your father met your mother through Minato. I won't pretend to know anything about vampires and any strange abilities you may have, but it was the weirdest thing I had ever seen when they met. The minute he saw her he was beyond in love with her. Love was nowhere near a strong enough word, he quite literally worshiped the ground she walked on. There was some unyielding need to be with her." He began explaining.
Kyuu paused as she listened to him explain that. "Love at first sight?" She asked surprised.
"It was more than that, I remember asking him about it once and he explained that a certain trait appears in some vampire clans and his was one of them. The trait, it causes a certain bond to form with someone else. The vampire wouldn't fall in love with anyone until they met a specific person in their life. They'd be drawn to that person and connected to them. It could be an instant thing or it might happen slower, but from the moment they met the correct person their souls would become entwined with that person and no one else mattered. It would be them and no one else from then on out. No one else would matter more than that one person. Until the case with your father it had always been another vampire that they fell in love with, thus how they found their eternal soul mates." He explained.
"I never knew that… does it work both ways?" She asked curiously.
"He said he didn't think so. With vampires it often did but humans don't have that trait and thus didn't feel the same instant entwined connection. That's usually why it happened just between vampires."
"That must be hard if it's only one-sided." Kyuu mused and something began stirring in the back of her mind.
"Luckily for your father it wasn't. " He responded before continuing. "Your father began following her around like a love sick puppy and did everything she said, she could have told him to jump off a cliff and set himself on fire and he would have done it because it was she who asked him to. Of course she was nothing like that though, she was a very caring person underneath her troublemaker tendencies she was very loving and it didn't take her long to fall for your father as well, almost as hard as he fell for her. Minato was perfectly happy with the two being in love and after first giving your father a good overprotective brother lecture, gave him his blessing. The two were married not long after that and naturally both knew about what your father was before they were married. It wasn't long after that Minato and Kushina began to grow even closer and were married." He concluded.
"And then, bam related to Naruto." Kyuu chipped in as she listened to his story.
"Correct." He replied and began fishing something out of his desk. "Here, this is your mother." He stated as he pulled out a photograph and handed it to her. "And your father." He added as he handed her another photograph.
Kyuu took the photograph and stared at it, she had never seen what her mother looked like before and never remembered her father mentioning anything about her. The subject was usually too painful. She looked at her mother and inwardly smiled. She looked absolutely nothing like her at all, he wasn't kidding when he said she got her looks from her dad. She had long blonde hair and bright blue eyes; looking almost like Naruto's sexy jutsu in terms of physcial appearance. As she examined her mother more though she could see a resemblance in her face with her own. They had the same shaped eyes and smile. Her father on the other hand looked just like her. He had pale skin, long black hair, and dark eyes. She noticed he also wore a cross despite what he was.
"Your mother wasn't a Shinobi. She worked as an assistant here in this office, first for me my last few years and then Minato when I retired." The Hokage explained.
"…So when did my father leave the village then? I wasn't born here was I?" She asked curiously, she knew before her father died they were always traveling and she had no memory of ever being in Konoha before she came on her own.
"Your parents left the village shortly after the night Naruto was born. The deaths of Minato and Kushina, took a toll on them both and they wanted to get away and start somewhere else. Your mother was in no shape to travel at the time, pregnant with you, but they wanted to leave and I couldn't stop them. They begged to take Naruto with them as well but for obvious reasons we couldn't allow that."
Kyuu nodded as she processed this information. "And then my mom died in childbirth and my father was killed by a vampire hunter four years later." She concluded, wrapping up the timeline.
She had such few memories of her father since she was just four at the time of his death but she did recall how sad he was. She realized now how much he suffered. In such a short period of time he lost his best friend and his wife and couldn't be there to raise his nephew either. She knew now that the depression that radiated from him was from the loss of his soul mate. That made her wonder then, when he died and left her alone in the world; did he not fight as hard as he could in order to be with her again? Was she left alone because he couldn't stand being without his wife anymore and didn't care if he left a daughter behind? She mentally shook her head no. From what she could remember, though her father was sad most of the time he never showed a hint of not loving her and never acted like he blamed her for her mother's death, he wouldn't have abandoned her on purpose.
"You're correct, your mother's death was less than a month after Minato's I think that really affected your father. " He mused.
"You're right; Naruto's only a few weeks older than me." Kyuu responded as she thought about it. "His birthday is October 10th and mine, October 31st. From what I remember of my father, the loss did hit him pretty hard, he was always sad." She added.
"But he still raised you the best he could until his untimely death."
"Yeah…" Kyuu agreed. "So why are you telling me all this and not Naruto?"
"I wanted you to understand, that there are more humans out there than you think that accept people like you and don't judge. Minato, your mother, and Kushina, they all cared deeply for your father and all three would have loved you as well." He answered. "As for Naruto, as I said, he will find out in time, but you would never have if I didn't tell you and let's face it I'm not getting any younger." He laughed.
"How will Naruto find out if you don't intend to tell him?" She asked curiously.
"Pretty soon Naruto's going to meet his godfather. His godfather knows everything that Naruto will need to know and will guide him. He will train him, teach him, and look out for him. Your godfather Is dead so there would be no one to lead you."
"Minato was my godfather?"
"Correct."
"Who is Naruto's, it wasn't my father too?"
"Your father was one of his guardians, but Minato made his teacher Naruto's godfather. He even named him, after a character in one of his books, Minato's idea of course.
"That doesn't really tell me who he is." Kyuu responded suspiciously.
"Just a perverted old writer and sage." He answered with a light laugh and Kyuu realized she wasn't going to get anymore information out of him.
"Is there anything else you can tell me about my parents?"
"Unfortunately no, they were both great people though and that's the important thing to remember. I wish I could tell you more, particularly about your father and his history, but as I said he was a very private person."
"Well… thank you for telling me what you could." Kyuu decided. "Is there anything else you needed?" She asked as she stood up. This was a lot of info to take in and she wanted to go on a long walk to process everything.
"No that is all. I'll remind you once more to keep this between the two of us though and to exercise some caution when you talk about yourself." He added as he waved her off.
"Right." Kyuu agreed and left.
Kyuu left the building and clutched the two pictures of her parents. Though grateful he told her what he did, she wished he hadn't kept this information from her for so long. She had so many more questions she wished she could ask now and wished there were others that did remember her parents. So many thoughts went through her head that she just walked aimlessly throughout the village.
"Gaara where have you been?" Temari asked as Gaara returned to their hotel room.
"Out." He answered.
"Baki was looking for you; he wants to talk to us all." Kankuro stated as he sat by the window.
"I don't care." He responded and leaned against the wall.
It was only a moment later before Baki entered the room and began to explain to the three about their real purpose in Konoha. Gaara listened with disinterest and Kankuro listened with slight concern, Temari was the one most bothered by the information. She didn't like the idea of breaking the alliance and attacking Konoha but understood why they were doing it.
"We're counting on you Gaara." Baki concluded and Gaara glanced at him.
"Got it." He agreed.
"On that note, that vampire girl…" Baki began and Gaara's eyes narrowed slightly while Kankuro and Temari quickly looked at Gaara. "She may be a problem. You'll have to deal with her if that's the case."
Gaara stared at him for a moment before answering. "Right." He agreed and pushed himself off the wall, heading for the door.
When it was just Temari and Kankuro in the room they glanced at each other. "Do you think that's going to be a problem?" Kankuro asked.
"Gaara's never had a problem with killing anyone before. Kyuu though… I don't know…he won't admit it I'm sure, but I think he likes her. He's drawn to her if nothing else and she really likes him." She responded, not sure what Gaara would do at this point if faced with the task of killing her.
"He's going to have to stab her in the back... Guess we shouldn't get too comfortable with anyone while we're here then." Kankuro reasoned and looked out the window.
"Says the guy hitting on that chick we walked by this morning. What was her name?" Temari teased.
"Mitsune I think and you're one to talk, chatting up Kyuu's big brother whenever you get the chance." He retorted.
"Whatever, He's interesting to talk to that's all." She scuffed.
"Sure." He retorted shaking his head and watching Gaara walk away somewhere on the street below.
Gaara stared at Kyuu from his spot near Kyuu's window. After leaving the hotel he went back into the forest to be alone and when he returned to the village that night he found himself at Kyuu's apartment again. She was sound asleep. When he was sure she was in a deep enough sleep he crawled across the tree branch and crept up to her window. After examining it for a moment he slipped sand under the seal and had it unlock the window from the inside than slowly opened it and slipped into the room. Gaara landed on the floor silently and glanced around the room before walking over to her bed. He paused at the desk near her bed when he noticed two new photographs in frames, neither wear of people he recognized but they looked familiar. Gaara redirected his attention back to Kyuu and stared at her.
He wasn't sure why he came, he just did. He watched her sleep and Baki's conversation from earlier that day ran through his head. He'd have to attack her home when this month was up and maybe even kill her. Why wait? The cork in his gourd popped out and sand silently crept all around Kyuu's sleeping figure until she was covered by it, all but her head. "I should kill you right now." He hissed, his hand outstretched and hovering over her, ready to clamp shut. "It would be so easy, you wouldn't even wake up. Then I'd never have to deal with this…torture you're putting me through again." He continued. His hand shook in anticipation and he sighed, lowering it and allowing his sand to rush back into his gourd. "But I still can't bring myself to do it." He growled wondering what it was about this one girl that made it so hard for him to kill her. "Why can't I kill you?" He growled out and turned to leave.
"Gaara…" A voice whispered behind him and he spun around, thinking Kyuu was awake.
Kyuu was still asleep but her face was now in his direction and she mumbled his name in her sleep again. So she was dreaming about him? Gaara stepped back over to the bed and looked down at her. It looked like she was having a bad dream. Gaara watched a single tear form and fall down her cheek and reached out to brush it away without even being aware of his actions. He caught the tear on his finger and rubbed it before placing his hand on her cheek. He felt the iciness of her skin when he touched her but instead of feeling cold he felt warmth rush over him. He closed his eyes as he stroked her cheek. Whenever she touched him a warm feeling came over him , it drove him insane, made him feel content, warm, comfortable but the second she stopped touching him he felt cold and alone again. He didn't understand why. Touching her cheek, her grasping his hand, the slightest touch caused that feeling to surface and on the occasional times she hugged him or leaned against him he felt a knot in his stomach. Why? What was causing that? Gaara opened his eyes and looked down at her again, bringing his hand still and staring at her face. He took in every detail of it, her face looked so gentle and soft yet he had seen it change on numerous occasions and turn hard and cruel when she was angry. His gaze drifted down to her lips and he stared at them. They spoke so many comforting lies that it made his head spin. Her words made him feel on edge and like he needed to kill something yet they brought a strange sensation over him the more he thought about them. They brought…comfort. Something he hadn't felt in a very long time. Gaara traced his thumb across her lips a few times as he fought with the confusion inside him.
"I will kill you… until then…" Gaara muttered and glanced around the room as if he expected to get caught before bending over her and placing his lips close to her ear like he had done before. "Until then you're mine." He whispered and straightened up. Gaara backed away from her until his back hit the windowsill and he leaned against it, folding his arms across his chest and watching her.
He felt like he made up his unstable mind now. If this obsession wasn't going to leave then he was going to deal with it, accept it and deal with it until the month was up and he could be rid of her permanently. Until then, until then he'd go along with her games. Being around her was a distraction from his inner demons and he'd use that distraction until the time came where he could put it all to an end.
Kyuu fretted in her sleep. Her dream was dark and troublesome. She watched herself run through an abandoned wasteland with nothing but the hard ground below her. She ran through it, desperately searching for something lost. She finally stopped running when she saw a figure in the distance and approached it slowly. She walked up behind the small child version of Gaara and watched him cry. She reached out a hand and placed it on his shoulder, he turned to look at her and then the image changed. This time Kyuu found herself in utter darkness but a present day Gaara was embracing her. Though confused she smiled and hugged him back as tightly as she could. Then suddenly he let go of here and turned to walk away. Kyuu tried to run after him but no matter how fast she ran she couldn't get any closer to him as he walked into the darkness. She tripped in her running and fell, calling out for him until he disappeared into the darkness and suddenly she felt herself falling feet first into an abyss. She landed on her feet and looked around in confusion. There was absolutely nothing, just endless darkness. Above her however were white ripples as if she was underwater and the surface was right there. She stared at the ripples and watched a reflection form in the water of Gaara above her. It looked as if he was right there above the surface, lying on top of it as if it was glass rather than water. He stared down at her with cold empty eyes and she reached out her hand to touch him. The second she touched the surface of the water though it turned to solid glass and shattered into hundreds of pieces, Gaara shattering along with it. Then she was falling again, this time she was falling headfirst into the darkness and as she fell images of Gaara flashed by. The first was as he normally was yet he looked hurt and full of pain, then he turned angry and sad. A final image appeared before her and what she saw jolted Kyuu awake in fear.
Kyuu bolted up right in bed, wide awake and panting in shock from her dream. That last image was still stuck in her mind's eye. The image was of Gaara like she had never seen before. He had lost all grips on his sanity and was halfway between transforming into some murderous looking monster. Kyuu could only assume that was Shukaku taking control. Kyuu shook her head in an attempt to clear it. She had no idea what that dream was supposed to mean, but it all left her feeling confused and worried.
A sudden breeze got her attention and she glanced over at her window in confusion. It was wide open and a chilly morning breeze was stirring the curtains. She was certain she shut and locked that window before she went to bed last night. She blinked in confusion and got out of bed, walking over to the window and looking out it. She looked up and down and into the tree outside it but didn't see any sign of Gaara. Confused she leaned back into her room and shut the window. She glanced around her room to see if anything looked out of place and when she decided it all looked normal she shook her head and headed for the kitchen. All night in her sleep the back of her mind told her she was being watched but she didn't see or sense anyone now.
