Hosea wrapped his arms around him, and he could hear the gang walking away to give them their privacy, his face wet where he rested it against his back, his breath hitching with quiet sobs, reaching down out of habit to run his fingers through Arthur's hair only to pause, hand hovering awkwardly, a strangled sound breaking in his throat, and he wrapped his arms around them both.

Whumptober: Arthur was weak, and hurt, and tired. Dutch tried, but there was nothing he could do, the soldiers weren't willing to wait for him, wouldn't show him any mercy.

When they'd stopped their horses, dismounted to let them drink and rest, he'd clapped Arthur on the shoulder (Hosea hissed, drawing his breath) and pulled him in for a one-armed hug, booming "That was incredible, son!" Dutch had frozen when he realized what he'd done, expecting Arthur to cower, or cringe, or to bolt.

Whumptober2019: Arthur should have known something would happen. Every time, every single time, he tried to take a break from the gang, something went wrong. So why would this time be different?

Whumptober2019: "He-!" a hand grasped his upper arm, and pulled him aside. He grunted, and twisted, grabbing for his gun, but a familiar voice hissed "Son, it's me!" and he stilled, unable to help a wheeze as his back was slammed against a brick wall. "Shh, Arthur," the man murmured.

Arthur Morgan is alive after fifteen years. He doesn't know why or how but he'll seek the answers he needs while stuck in a small town plagued by corruption. Along the way, he'll make new allies and discover the fates of those from his past.

I could just stay like this. It was a thought that had been cropping up more and more often, especially in the wake of Blackwater, and on mornings like this, it reached a crescendo.

It's easy to forget how much a little scratch can hurt when you're a kid. Arthur would've had more sympathy for John, if he wasn't acting like such a little shit.
