The next day.

"Hmm maybe I can find some sticks here? No those are too small I have to keep looking" Arkyn said to himself as he walked in the woods looking for things he could use to build a new toy to add to his collection.

"No that won't work it's too oddly shaped" He kept going further into the woods until he got to a little stream.

It was small the water was low enough for him to walk across it was only a little above his ankles but he remembered his mother's words he was allowed up until he got to the stream, he must never go across it. And he always listened. He looked at the stream hoping he could cross it, maybe there were more things ahead. But his momma would never allow it even if he asked she might even not allow him to ever go into the woods at all. It took him 2 years to get her to say yes and he didn't want to chance it. He stared at the other side of the stream and sighed

"Hmm maybe one day when I'm older" he said sadly and as he turned away to walk back to his home when he heard a sound.

A sound that would most likely scare someone away but Arkyn didn't feel scared. He turned around and heard it one more time. It was a roar like a..."Dragon...?" He whispered to himself. The sound sounded so familiar as if it wasn't the first time he heard it. It even made him happy for some reason, and suddenly he was so curious to go see what it was but suddenly he snapped back to reality and realized he had to cross the stream and he felt conflicted. He looks across the stream and back to his path home but the curiosity pulled him more towards the stream

"I need to know...I'm sorry momma" and suddenly he was in the stream and felt the water on his feet and nothing could stop him now, he felt the rush inside of freedom and wonder and he started running looking at his surroundings that he could never see, it was so beautiful so much more open.

He smiled at it all not able to contain his excitement when suddenly he heard the sound again and followed it till he got to a big tree and behind it there it was, a dragon. He was black with a purple hue and huge he was beautiful Arkyn felt scared and excited at the same time.

"They are real.." he whispered to himself trying not to spook it.

It seemed he was using his electric breath to warm up the place where he was going to settle down on

"whoa, I knew it! mom said it wasn't true but it is !" He said a little above a whisper and the Dragon turn to look where the sound came from and Arkyn quickly hid so he would see him.

Then suddenly a figure came out behind some trees and spoke.

"Ugh that sap is going to be a pain to get out but oh well I think we covered a good amount today bud"

That voice sounded so conforting for some reason then Arkyn quickly looked at the man who was talking to the dragon! And it was his friend?! Arkyn couldn't believe it but then all of a sudden the man got close where Arkyn could see him and for some reason he felt as though he's seen him somewhere too. The man was tall, lanky but looked like he had a strong build under his armor he was wearing what had a dragon symbol. Maybe the dragon was his friend ! But then he also noticed the man had similar hair as he did it was like looking into the future.

"I wanna be like him some day and have a dragon friend too" he whispered as he smiled to himself thinking how great it would be.

The only thing he saw that was odd was he was carrying a small rattle, the sound of it also sounded familiar it was all so wired to arkyn and then he noticed the rattle had some writing but he couldn't tell what it said. He wanted to go talk to the man and hope he could let him pet his friend dragon bu then he saw a symbol of a Viking tribe on one of his shoulders and his smile faded away and his happiness became sadness.

"He's a Viking, momma told me they're bad people" and with that thought he knew he needed to stay away from him.

"I checked these places already and that one, where you able to find anything bud?" The man continued to speak.

Then something caught Arkyn's eyes, a bow ! He's always wanted one but his mother always said he couldn't have one, maybe if he showed her he could be responsible with one she would let him have one, plus the bad Viking didn't need it if he has a dragon he wouldn't mind if he took it maybe he had more at his village. As the man was busy looking at his map Arkyn quickly sneaked over to grab the bow without the man noticing and quickly but quietly left back to his home before his mother noticed he was gone for too long

Hiccup lifted his head up thinking he heard a sound in the distance but there was no one

"Did you hear that bud?" He asked toothless, toothless shook his head.

"Hmm wired. Well come on let get- wait where's my bow? Toothless" hiccup said looking at him with an annoyed look.

Toothless raised an eyebrow in confusion.

"Wha-well how could it just disappear! I just-I left it here, ugh" hiccup said as dropped himself on to a rock to sit on that was near by and burying his face into his arms covering his face.

Toothless expression turned sad, knowing that hiccup wasn't frustrated because he couldn't find his bow it was because he couldn't find his son...Toothless rubbed his head on to hiccups arm giving him a small push telling him it was okay. And with that small gesture hiccup lifted his head from his arms and looked at toothless his eyes were watery but he wiped the tears away.

"I know I'm sorry bud" Hiccup said to him as he pet his head.

Toothless still gave a concerned low purr.

"Don't worry it's okay I just hate this part you know, where I come back with nothing"

Toothless got closer for hiccup to rest his head on him and gave him a low purr as though he was telling him that he also felt the same.

"Yeah the whole part where I have to look at Merida and tell her I haven't found anything and see her heart break every single time" toothless looked up at hiccup with sad eyes and hiccup simply gave him a half sad smile.

"Well let get going there's nothing here for us"

Hiccup said, then saddled up to fly away.

It was a bit of a long distance from where hiccup went to search but he was soon back home and Merida was there of course waiting with hiccups mother by her side

"Do yeu think today might be the day..?" Merida asked Valka

"Oh dear just have an open mind" she replied giving Merida a hug .

When suddenly Merida heard toothless, she quickly ran to the edge of Clift that they were on to see hiccup below with toothless. She was always hopeful when hiccup would return that hoping one day he would return with their son in his arms. But today was not the day, she was far away but could see the sad expression as hiccup jumped off toothless then looked up at her and without any words she knew what he was saying. Just like every other day...nothing. Merida felt her heart sink again, every single time but Valka was there to company her today. Sometimes it was her mom, sometimes her friend Astrid and sometimes her father too. Valka also knew what the expression meant on hiccups face, she might have not known hiccup for a long time but she was starting to understand a few things. Valka put her hand on meridas shoulder and turned her around Merida looked at her with tears in her eyes

"I know it's hard dear but you will see him again. A mother knows" and with those words Merida felt more calm for the first time in a long time and hugged Valka, valka stroked her hair and laied her chin on the top of her head

"Hiccup will find him. He's done more than anybody here and knowing my son he's not going to stop, so have faith" Valka said reassuring her

"I just wish I could...help more I-" Merida began until valka cut her off and tilted her chin up to looked at her

"Merida you have, you have Scotland helping Vikings. I know you want to be out there with hiccup but it's dangerous"

"I don't care! My son is out there in that danger and I'm sittin' here doin' nothin'!!" Merida said pushing her self out of the embrace.

"H-how am I suppose to just sit here and-and let everyone do everything for me ?! I should be out there too." Merida then reached for her bow and showed it to Valka with anger and frustration in her voice

"I am the best archer in the land!" Merida said frustrated.

"And that's why you can't be out there with us" a voice spoke out firmly from behind her.

Merida turned around to see it was hiccup he was scowling at her.

"You're not helping your son have a chance to get to know his mother if you're trying to get yourself killed" he said passing by her as he took her bow out of her hand and threw it on a table.

Merida was furious at the gesture that hiccup did and snapped at him.

"How. dare. yeu! And yeu don't think he deserves to kno his father too?! Ugh!! I'm tired of all this hero stuff with yeu!" Hiccup kept scowling at Merida with his arms crossed, then turned around to unload his supplies he had packed in his armor while Merida kept yelling at him.

"Just because yeu have a dragon yeu think yer all high and mighty, yeu don't believe I can handle myself is that it!?"

"I'm done talking about it" hiccup replied.

"Talkin' about what?! Yer acting exactly like everybody else! I thought yu were different but I guess I was wrong." Merida said with anger and sadness in her voice.

"Merida..." Valka spoke up but Hiccup cut her off.

"No mom she's right." Hiccup said with a firm voice.

Merida's anger turned into worry she only said what she said out of anger but hearing hiccup say she was right killed her inside, she never thought that he would be like everyone else ever, telling her what to do and what not to do, she was trying to hold back tears by bringing her anger back up but a knot built up in her throat and Valka noticed and tried to help her.

"Hiccup...don't" she asked her son, because she knew exactly what he was about to say next and she didn't know how Merida would take it.

"Think what you want Merida. Think that I control your life like everyone else, think that I feel all high and mighty because I have a night fury..."

"Hiccup.." valka tried to stop him again.

"No mom I'm tired of this" he says turning to his mom and then back at Merida

"I'm tired of you thinking I don't want you to look for your son, Merida you are one of the best warriors out there. But you are also the mother of this child. The mother of the child who will bring peace and show the world that enemies can become allies. He needs YOU! He is not losing both parents trying to FIND HIM!! I'm not trying to stop you from being the strong queen and warrior that you are I'm trying to protect you. But if you can see the difference between controlling and protecting. Then there's nothing left to say" Merida looked away as a tear dropped from her face she was still angry but now understood why hiccup didn't want her searching for Arkyn.

Hiccup began to leave when Merida said his name

"Hiccup..." he stopped in his tracks to listen

"he needs you too..." Hiccup felt a small pain in his chest but brushed it off and kept walking.

Then Valka spoke.

"It true you know...hiccup fell in love for who you are dear, if he's forbidding things from you it's out of love and protection not because he doubts you but because he's scared..."

"of what..." Merida asked confused

"of losing you too, hiccup is fearless but not when it comes to you." Merida suddenly felt guilty for what she said.

But she knew she needed to let hiccup cool off first before she went to talk to him again.

"They are real.." he whispered to himself,

trying not to spook it. It seemed he was using his electric breath to warm up the place where he was going to settle down on

"whoa, I knew it! mom said it wasn't true but it is !" He said a little above a whisper

and the Dragon turn to look where the sound came from and Arkyn quickly hid so he would see him.
