The night Hiccup and his group of Vikings finally got to Carona they were waiting at the docks for Toothless and a few other dragons to arrive. But to hiccups surprise they were not alone. 3 ships from Dunbroch were right behind them.

"What are they doing here?" Hiccup said to himself as a smile grew on his face.

Toothless got to hiccup first and gave him a big smile then hurried to go lick him.

"Ahh toothless!! Who did you bring bud?" Hiccup said teasing him as he pet him.

The boat finally arrived it was Furgus and 2 lords, each along with there small group Scottish groups.

"Hiccup!" Fergus yelled out.

And hiccup walked over to him right away.

"Fergus ! Wha-what are you all doing here?" Hiccup asked with a small chuckle.

"Came to help me son in law of course! Not goin' to let you have all the fun" He said giving hiccup a wink.

"You didn't bring Merida did you?" Hiccup asked worriedly.

"Ah of course not ! Although the lass did put up a good fight tryin' to come along. Haha"

Hiccup laughed. "I can already imagine"

"Oh that reminds me, she wanted me to give you this."

Fergus pulled out a bow, hiccup couldn't believe it. It was the bow he first taught Merida a trick on , a trick on how to shoot a certain way. The bow that had brought them together and began their love story.

His chief bow.

It was special to both of them and it was one day going to be Arkyn's. He looked at it with sadness and happiness. He knew Merida sent it for a reason to tell him something he told her years ago when they were first getting to know each other, he thought back to that day.

{ Flash back }

Hiccup and Merida were walking in the forest of Dunbroch. Merida was following behind him to a spot he camped out when he would come to Dunbroch.

"Yeu don't know what yer takin' about Viking" Merida said annoyingly.

"It's Hiccup, Princess" he replied back.

"I said don't call me that"

"So don't call me Viking, I have a name"

"Right. So...how long till we get there? It seems like we've been walking forever!"

"Well I insisted on riding on toothless but you didn't want to"

Toothless was walking right in front of them as Merida looked over at him.

"um yeah that's still a no to that"

Toothless scared her, he was big...so bigger than angus, and that scared her a little.

Hiccup saw the worry in her expression as she looked over at toothless and he laughed.

When suddenly hiccup stoped in his tracks. Merida didn't noticed and ran into him. She then realized how close she got, she had never been so close to him like this before, he smelled so good, like fresh pine trees but with a musky cologne, but it was a soft scent not too harsh, and along with it came the smell of the fresh out doors, both were intwined together giving him his own unique smell. It was so addicting it made her want to be wrapped in his arms. When suddenly hiccup spoke up and brought her out of thought, she stepped back a little as he turned around.

"We're here" he smiled at her then turned to look over where he was talking about and merida did as well.

"Wow..." she said.

It was beautiful ! Toothless quickly made himself at home. It was a lake with a small waterfall everything was blooming and the sun shined perfectly on everything making the water sparkle and the colors of the forest brighter. It was like a crater so the only way to go down is slide down this dirt slope it wasn't high up but it was easy to tumble down.

"Hiccup how did yeu..?"

"I like to explore, now come on let's go down to get a closer look!" Hiccup said getting in position to slide down on his feet, then he put out his hand for Merida to hold on to.

He could tell merida was a little scared to go down. He had never seen this side of her, and it made him feel protective over her.

"Is this even safe?" She asked giving hiccup her hand, when she slipped and fell into his arms.

"Well yes but watch your step you can still-" and before hiccup could finish his sentence Merida slipped.

Hiccup caught her with his right as she unconsciously wrapped her hands around his neck grabbing on, which brought hiccup closer to her.

"Fall" he finally said laughing a little to himself.

He hadn't noticed how close they were now, until he felt Merida grip on to him tightly. They were so close their cheeks were practically touching each other. She was too distracted on not falling that Merida hadn't realized it too. Hiccup was caught of guard but that didn't stop his heart from racing, he's always wondered how it felt to hold Merida ever since the first day they met. But he knew that day would never come, she didn't really seemed like the affectionate type so he never counted on it. A ringlet of her hair that framed her face rubbed against his face and it was so soft. He wished he could just kiss her then and there to calm her down but he also didn't want to scare her away. So he resisted, he also didn't know if she felt the same way. Hiccup then held her tight to him as they slid down the slope. And once they got to the bottom Merida let go and composed herself. They both cleared their throat realizing the position they were in and blushed slightly. Merida was the first to speak up.

"So...how did ye find this place?" She said as she kept walking.

"Toothless found did actually" hiccup said as he walked passed her heading closer to the side of the lake.

Merida looked over at toothless who was jumping in the water having fun and she raised an eyebrow.

"Yer...dragon?" She replied.

"Yes him. Now come on ima show you what your doing wrong with that bow" he said turning around to see her.

Merida scowled at his statement.

"For thee last time nothing is wrong! I've been trainin' since a was a wee lass."

Hiccup rolled his eyes. " So you've said...a million times"

"Then get it right!" She yelled at him.

"Not until you learn this" hiccup said as he under hand tossed his bow to her.

They weight of the bow almost made her lose balance but she caught herself. This bow was heavier that most of the bows in her kingdom.

"What is dis made outta of ...medal? it's...so...heavy"

Hiccup laughed "it's called Buloke wood, one of the strongest woods in the world." Hiccup said while slipping on his leather glove in to protect his palm and have a grip on the bow. it had holes where his fingers would go so he had full movement of them.

Merida looked down at the bow hiccup had handed her. It was beautiful, wrapped in leather where you put your hand on to hold it and it had Viking engravings on it, symbols of bravery and honor? She only knew that because her mother taught her to know every enemies language as-well as their allies But the one that caught her eye was a certain marking.

"Chief...?" she said in a whisper as she looked up not realizing hiccup was right in front of her inches away.

"Yeah...but not yet." He said looking at the bow in a sad tone.

They stood there in silence. Merida just kept looking at his face. He was of royalty too? But his face looked just like hers the day her mother said she was to wed. Was he like her that didn't want the crown.

"Hiccup..." she began but he cut her off

"Ready your arrow" he said changing the subject. As he went around her.

Merida was speechless but dropped the subject knowing she would want him to do the same for her and then did as he said. She pointed her bow and arrow at a target that was far to even see. But she knew exactly where the center was. She gripped tightly on to the bow pulled the string back to her cheek and took a deep breath.

"Haha no no you're doing it all wrong" hiccup interrupted.

"This is how ye shoot an arrow Viking.."

Hiccup gave a small glare then rolled his eyes, then went to stand behind Merida putting her back into the position she was in. Merida jumped a little at hiccups touch. He was holding each of her hands with his own his face was almost touching her cheek. He had to lower himself a bit since he was taller than her which made Merida able to feel his warm breathe on her neck as he spoke in a soft voice only they could both here.

"Elbow up, that's it, relax your hands Mer."

Mer. Merida was already feeling warm inside being next to him and his musky cologne filling the air around her but her heart raced faster as he said that nickname, thousands of butterflies fluttered in her stomach. And she felt like she could melt in his arms then and there. Hiccup must of felt that because he got even closer and griped her hands more which made Merida tense up. She had never been so close to a boy like this. But most importantly feel like this.

Hiccup chuckled at meridas tenseness. He knew it was because of him. He would have reacted the same but he wanted to be closer to her again and this gave him the opportunity to do it without scaring her away.

"It's okay I got you...oh wait I'm sorry I'll-" hiccup said then realizing he was being selfish being a little too close but he was cut off by meridas response.

"No um...I...it's alright" she said wanting him not to back away.

Hiccup tried really hard to hide his big smile but couldn't and luckily Merida couldn't see it because she was focusing on the target. Hiccup then got closer to her again but this time he felt how she relaxed in his touch, letting him take the lead.

"That's it now point your arrow right...here" he said.

"Hiccup. That's not even close to the bullseye how am I-"

"Just trust me, if you're as good of an archer as you say you are your going to hit it, now close your eyes."

Merida rolled her eyes then got back into position pointing a few inches away from the target and closed her eyes. Then hiccup began to speak again.

"Now...focus with your mind. Think of something important to you something that drives you to your core."

Hiccup. Hiccup Haddock Horrendous iii.

That what came first to her mind. She only new him for a few days, yet she trusted him. Even though he was suppose to be the enemy.

He made her mad but she felt something for him. He drove her to her core. He was freedom in a person, the way he talked about his adventures. That's what she wanted. And Made her be herself around him without judgment even when he was a Royal himself. She would find her self waiting to see him again. And craved to be near him. It was unexplainable but he made her feel...safe.

Hiccup kept speaking.

"Hold on to that one thing like the grip on that bow. Don't let it slip. Feel that energy that it gives you. And use it...now...release!"

Merida lets go of the arrow and it goes flying right into the bullseye!

Merida became speechless she felt like she was out of breath.

Hiccup on the other hand was cheering in the back

"YES !! That's what I'm talking about !! Works every time. I told you you would miss it!"

Merida turned around to look at him realizing he was no longer right next to her he was feet away but how? Hiccup got closer to her as he looked over at the bullseye she made.

"So what was your drive ?" He asked curiously in a sheepish way.

"You..." Merida whispered under her breathe. Stunned at what just had happened. When she realized what she said and then blushed.

Hiccup looked at her confused. He's never heard a person be a reason for someone's focus. It was always a hobby or an object of even climate. But never a person. Hiccup got closed to her till they were inches away.

"Mer..I'm-"

But before hiccup could speak Merida kissed his him, her soft lips touched his and it felt like electricity. She didn't know what made her do that but something inside her just wanted to for so long. Merida then quickly pulled away realizing what she had just done.

"I'm sorry I just-" she rambles but hiccup pulled her back into the kiss. Before she could finish.

Hiccup was gentle at first but Merida wanted more and intensified the kiss, hiccup didn't mind he wanted her to give him permission and she did without a word and without breaking the kiss he pick her up so each of her legs were on each side of his hips, he didn't seem strong but once she lifted her up merida couldn't believe how he wasn't breaking a sweat, she felt light as a feather, she then wrapped her arms around his neck to get a good of him but as well as bringing him closer to her.

Toothless covered his eyes with his wings and front legs not wanting to see, he wasn't really a romantic.

Hiccup then placed Merida on a bolder that was close by so she was a few inches higher then him.

When they finally broke the kiss Merida cupped hiccups face with one of her hand and kept the other around his neck. And rested their foreheads on each other's.

Hiccup smiled as he avoided her gaze looking down at the ground then back up at her with a smirk. Then she whispered to him.

"What?" Also giving him a small smile.

"I'm your drive?" He replied softly.

"I donno what that means. But I guess ye can say that" she replied

Hiccups smile suddenly became a thoughtful look.

"Is there somethin' wrong?" Merida asked worried in a normal tone.

"No it's just...The technique I showed you is an old technique us Vikings use to use in the old era. It helps you focus on the target without the need to actually see it. This energy or drive helps you hit the target every time you use it. It takes a lot of concentrating and that's what your drive does it keeps you calm and focused. If your in a bad place you might use it in a bad way."

"What does that mean?" Merida asked.

Hiccup backed away for Merida to jump off so they could take a walk. She took his hand and entwined it in hers. Hiccup smiled at the small gesture and continued.

"There's a tale about a young Viking that fell in love with a beautiful girl of his own tribe. At a young age they were trained to be strong and fearful because one day our parents wars will be our wars. So his grandfather trained him and showed him this technique, it a technique we all learn at a young age. And only our kind knows it.

"But why did ye show me it?" Merida asked.

" I don't know I just wanted to impress you I guess?" He said with a small laugh. As he looked down at her hand that was holding his.

Merida blushed at what he said and how he was looking down at their hands. She felt hiccup stroke her hand with his thumb and it made her smile even more.

"You don't have to worry about that though it takes years of training to know how to do it on your own"

"But I did it in seconds" Merida said questionably.

"Yeah that's what we all say haha but that's cause I was there, I was able to help you concentrate and not as your drive as your teacher" he teased.

Merida shook her head and gave him a playful look.

"Whats yer drive?"

Hiccup smiled and looked behind him.

"Toothless. Dragons. that's why I'm so connected to him he's a big part of who I am." Then he turned to look back at Merida.

"We're tested at a young age what our personality is, if we're selfish, greedy. If we're kind, brave. Those who show signs of a leadership get to have a chance at that ability."

"Like a...chief...?" Merida said quietly.

Hiccup looked over at her she was avoiding his eyes, she was looking over at toothless with a sad look, and hiccup replied softly. "Yeah..." then continued.

"Listen I'm sorry I didn't-"

"I don't want to know..." Merida said before he could finish. "I'm not a Princess and yer not a Chief. I'm just Merida...and your just Hiccup, okay?" She said smiling at him.

A smile grew on hiccups face. He gave Merida a kiss on her forehead and whispered "okay"

"So...what happened to the Viking and his love?"

Hiccup laughed at the way she said it. And they kept walking.

"His drive became his love interest he didn't have much important things except her. Because when your young that's all that's 'important' , It was the first time someone ever saw that. No one knew it could happen because It's usually the wind of the trees or an animal or a hobby but his was his girl and it cost him a lot"

"What happened ?" Merida asked worriedly.

"She was taken by an enemy ship, he tried to shoot at the enemy but because of his rage and instability he shot his girl"

Merida stopped in her tracks shocked and hiccup did as well looking back at her confused.

"Hiccup..." she began

He saw the worried look on her face and he laughed, already knowing what she was going to say.

"Mer, your not going to shoot me"

"But legends are lessons..."

"Yes but you don't have the ability to shoot an arrow like we do."

It was silent for a moment before Merida spoke again.

He stepped closer to her and realized a lot was probably going through her head. She was pensive. And it worried him.

"Listen I'm sorry I scared you I shouldn't have-"

"No...it's not that I'm glad ye showed me, it's just- the story. I just now started feelin' somethin' I don't quite understand and...the thought of loosing it...losing you scared me. We're enemies remember."

Hiccups face got serious. It wasn't the trick she was a afraid of, it was that they were enemies and that always ended bad. Hiccup got closer to her. He cupped her face with one of his hand. And began to speak

"Don't be I'm...right here. And I know what you mean I don't understand it either I just know I'm falling for you Merida, every day, ever since you almost shot me on purpose a month ago"

Merida gave a small chuckle before hiccup continued.

"But I keep coming back here, just to come see you. I've tried to convince myself to not come back but I can't Mer, Even though I know this is wrong it feels so right."

Merida forgot for a second where they were. He was right and she would tell him non stop, what was he doing in enemy territory, she could have him arrested , she was the princess after all but she said it hoping he would leave at first but then so he wouldn't get killed because she had fallen for him, but deep inside she was hoping more that he would stay and he did which made it a lot harder to stay away.

"I can get killed right here right now just by being this close to you, just by...kissing you...and yet I'm not afraid because you're here. I'll only leave if you tell me to..."

Merida closed her eyes tightly trying not to cry but a tear was able to fall down.

"Don't..." she replied in a whisper.

Merida couldn't resist any longer and kissed him. This time this kiss was sweet and tender. When they finally broke the kiss Merida was the one to speak last.

"No matter what, ye will always be my drive. Ability or no ability. I'll find my way back to you"

{Present day}

"I'll find my way back to you"

That sentence echoed in Hiccups head as he held his chief bow that Fergus gave him. Merida wanted him to remember that day on purpose. And he knew exactly why. Even if his drive wasn't a person his emotions were still going to cloud his judgement and he didn't need that. He needed to focus. He smiled at himself, Merida knew exactly how to keep him balanced. And with that new mindset he went to rally up his troops.
