Chapter 2: Beginning
'Nana Mol!' Angie greeted her 'grandmother' cheerfully.
'Good morning my dears' Molly Weasley enveloping Ginny in a warm embrace as Angie dropped her bag in the living room.
'Morning mum, sorry we're a bit early but I needed to get a few more morning sickness potion off of you and I offered Hermione to bring Angie with me to save some time to herself, you know how she can be when she's in a lot pressure' Ginny explained once her mother began peppering kisses on Angie's chubby face.
'That's no problem at all let me go grab some for you, while you sit' with that the older woman walked off searching through the many cupboards in the cramped kitchen. She returned shortly to find Ginny listening tentatively to Angie who was explaining her morning to her.
Although Angie's morning was short with her mother, she managed to give every detail. From how quietly she tried to sneak into her mother's room to how she struggles to put on her clothes, the child seemed to have a gift to making a 15min morning routine into a whole story. Molly admired how her daughter nodded at the right moments and giggled when Angie found something funny.
'Here you are dear' Molly cut off Angie as her stomach began to growl.
'You little missy, need to wash your hands while I make you a quick breakfast. After breakfast we'll go down to the orchard to pick a few apples for desert and then we'll do whatever you want until your cousins arrive' Molly instructed her as Ginny made her way to the floo.
'Bye mum, thanks for the potions. I'll see you at dinner' with one final kiss on the cheek Ginny disappeared into the green flames.
Molly heard Angie sing a little melody as she walked into the kitchen. Her heart welled up to see Angie on her tippy toes, arms over the sink washing her hands clean. They prepared breakfast as Angie recited all the things she knew about breakfast foods and helped her nana as best she could.
After Ginny and Angie left, Hermione was left with her thoughts. She sat back in one of her reading sofas by the French doors and began to think back to her little miracle.
4 years ago, in the hospital…
'She's beautiful, Ms Granger. She had trouble breathing but she managed to push through. Would you like to hold her?' the nurse spoke softly.
Hermione originally wanted to put her daughter up for adoption as she didn't want to raise the child on her own. Being only 20 years of age with no family, she wanted her daughter to have her best chance. A better family with a mother AND father. She wanted her daughter to grow up normal and without the consequence of being raised by a single mother. She didn't know how to be a mother; she couldn't be one.
But hearing the child's cry made her rethink her decision. After an inner battle between letting the child go without a single look to holding the angel in her arms, Hermione went for the latter. She gave a court nod to the nurse and tried to mentally prepare herself.
When the nurse came back, nothing on earth could have prepared Hermione. There in the pink blanket lay a whimpering child. She had platinum blond hair that was barely visible and skin softly toned pink, Hermione held her breath as the child opened her eyes and staring back at her hazel brown eyes were a shining grey. The angel inherited the dominate Malfoy appearance but that didn't matter to Hermione.
The little bundle's whimpers slowed to a soft coo as she reached up, with her hand that escaped in the closure of the blanket and smiled at her mother. Hermione felt silent tears down her cheeks and kissed her daughter's forehead, promising to the world that she will protect her no matter what. The angel reached up to Hermione's cheek, almost as if wanting to wipe the tears away. Hermione gave a small laugh as she reached for her daughter's hand with her finger, immediately her child grasped her figure with the tiny hands and Hermione began to cry even more. She kissed the little infant's knuckles and began to hum a soft melody.
'Does this mean you'll be keeping the child?' the doctor interrupted the mother-daughter moment.
Hermione smiled, inspired by the fact that if her daughter pushed through the struggle of breathing to be held by her mother, Hermione can push through raising her despite what anyone would day to her. Not trusting her voice, Hermione nodded and pulled the child closer to her heart, allowing it to heart her heartbeat and love for her.
'I apologize for interrupting again and I understand you need to rest but if you have a name for the child or if you need to think abo-'
'Evangeline, Evangeline Cassiopeia Granger. That's her name' Hermione answered confidently.
The doctor took the name down, double checked the spelling for Hermione and left the mother to tend to her child. When Angie was taken by the midwife for some test to make sure she was perfectly healthy, Hermione got cleaned and transferred to a new room. Hermione wanted nothing more than her mother to be there, but she knew, after numerous attempts, there was no way to restore their memory. It pained her to think of her parents living a happy life without her, but she comforted herself with the thoughts of safety and happiness for her parents.
The midwife returned with Evangeline and reassured Hermione that her daughter was health. She taught Hermione the basic of Brest-feeding and how to change nappies along with recommending some books for her to read on. Everything was going to be okay. She was Hermione Jane Granger, the smartest witch of the generation.
Smiling to herself, she got up form the small seat and made her way to the daughter's room to inspect her 'cleaning'. To her amusement she found numerous clothes scattered around and began to tidy it up for her daughter, not having the heart to give out to her later this afternoon. She went downstairs, taking a good portion of the fruit mix, her daughter had helped her make, and began to make her cup of tea. She reviewed the questions she was going to ask the new employees as she ate.
They were basic questions, but it was how a future employee would answer:
'What qualities do you hold to help the development and growth of the department'
'What does the rights of magical creatures mean to you?'
'Do you have or have had any magical creatures?'
Hermione glanced at the clock seeing as it was nearly 8:00am, she quickly gathered up her things for today. With a final glance at the hallway mirror she summoned her wand and briefcase from upstairs, with wandless magic, and began to ward up the front door. Ever since Angie was born and she moved into their new house in the countryside near a small muggle town at the outskirts of London, she always put up wards to give extra protection for daughter's sake. Satisfied with her work she went into the quaint living room to put on her robes and getting into the fireplace to foo to the ministry.
Please leave a rate and review about how the story is. I'm not quite sure how people are reacting to it or if it's not any good at all. So i came up with Evangeline's middle name to be Delphinus because it's a constellation, like Draco's name. Draco will come into the story in next chapter. It will explain where he's been all this time and maybe how he fell for Hermione?
