Chapter 3; Discovery
Walking down the long passage full of floo links, Hermione made her way quickly to an elevator that would take her down to her department. As people walked by, they greeted Hermione with a kind smile and asked about her morning. She walked with pride, seeing everyone work hard and in the early morning gave her a burst of energy.
Knowing that Hermione was early she quickly made her way to her office and was greeted by a pile of paperwork that needed to be done before her interviews began. Shaking off her outer robe, Hermione attacked the stack of paper with determination. An hour later Lavender, Hermione's assistant, walked into Hermione's office to give her some morning tea.
Ron and Hermione's friendship were still strong, but nothing more happened between them after the final battle. Ron had helped Hermione back on her feet after finding out about her pregnancy and offered the Burrow to her as a home until she could settle down on her own. The Weasley clan had adopted her and helped her through her first months of pregnancy and Molly certainly made sure she was there whenever Hermione had a problem or worry about the child. Lavender and Ron started their relationship again after the battle and Hermione had surprisingly became good friends with Lavender. Despite her attitude during their Hogwarts days, Lavender admitted that she took as much attention as she could because she never got much of it growing up and she put on a dumb blonde imagine to get out of her mistakes. In fact, Hermione will admit, Lavender was quite smart and passionate when it came to work and to those she truly cared for.
''Good morning Mione. How was your morning?'' Lavender wobbled in, being 6 months pregnant, giving Hermione the latest draft to their newest development: Dragon rights and freedom. They have spent the last 8 months trying to reduce the number of Dragons being illegally sold and used for experiments. They were magical creatures and were in great danger of being extinct. Hermione had been working day in and day out to finalize a law and reinforcements to keep the poor creatures out of the trading industry.
''It was peaceful. Ginny took Angie to Molly's early since she was running out of morning sickness potion'' Hermione replied taking the report from her.
With a quick scan of the report Hermione was satisfied about the new development. She looked up to see Lavender absentmindedly rubbing her swollen stomach as she looked at the pictures on her desk. There was only a picture on her desk of Angie and her, but a charm hid the true picture to preying eyes. Anyone who Hermione trusted could see the photo of Angie and her, but the charm cased would show a photo of Ron, Harry and herself in the end of their first year, in front of the Hogwarts Express before the summer holidays.
''So, when are you planning on leaving me?'' Hermione teased as she broke whatever trance Lavender was in.
''Oh, stop being dramatic'' Lavender countered back ''I'll simply be gone for a year or maybe earlier if you'll allow it. And besides, I'll see you every Sunday at the Burrow for lunch.'' Lavender laughed at the fact that they would constantly see each other no matter if she were on maternity leave or not.
''How are you keeping with the baby?'' Hermione asked. She knew the fear and constant pain of pregnancy, she wanted to help her two best friends through theirs as they did for her. She sees them like sisters and, even if she's never said it to their faces, Ron and Harry were useless when it came to helping their respective wives.
''Oh, he won't stop kicking me when I sleep, and I swear he eats more then Ron! Imagine if he comes out and I have cook and feed the two, you'd imagine I was feeding the whole clan'' Lavender exaggerated with a short laugh.
The two women shared a heartfelt laugh as they continued to drink their tea. Any worries Lavender had; Hermione was there to reassure her. She knew how terrifying the experiences was, always wondering if she were good enough for the child, if she would become the person her daughter looked up to. Hermione, Ginny, and Lavender were lucky though, they had an enormous amount of support and knew that there was always someone looking out for them. The three girls were as thick as thieves, always having each other's back, no matter what the problem was.
''Well I must get going, being your assistant isn't as easy as it looks, and I'm doing it pregnant'' Lavender teased her boss as she struggled to get up from the comfy seats. Hermione was quick on her feet and provided the support Lavender need to get up.
''Don't overwork yourself, you've done so much in the last 3 years, I wouldn't know what to do without you'' she replied giving a genuine smile.
''My shoes are quite big to fill, how on earth are you gonna find someone as good as me'' giggling towards the door.
''Look who's being dramatic'' Hermione quipped back as Lavender rounded the corner into her office. With a final laugh, Hermione shook her head and went back to work, she had another hour before she had to make her way into the small conference room where the interviews were being held.
Back at the Burrow:
The children ran around the large orchard as Mrs. Weasley began to prepare their lunch, she had just finished giving them their lessons such as learning the alphabet, numbers, and rhymes. Angie, being already quite advance for her age, read as her cousins listened carefully to their nana. After the lesson they were able to do what they wish if it was within their nana's peripheral vision.
Victoire and Louise (Bill and Fleur's children) suggested to Roxanne and Fred (George and Angelina's children) that they should go and play by the orchard. All the children cheered and began to run down. Angie was hesitant to leave her book behind but after a few encouraging words from her nana, that her book will be right where she left it, she too began to run as fast as her little legs could take her.
The girls decided to pick some of the apples to bring back for their nana and make some delicious treats for dessert. They looked back at her before picking just so they don't get in trouble and after they saw her give a nod and a smile they began giggling and chatting about fairy tales and new robes their parents have gotten them.
The Boys ran to the farthest tree at the back of the orchard, so they won't be seen climbing it. After a few moments, the girls had enough apples but struggled to carry them, they decided to ask the boys for help and began to approach the two. Upon their arrival they discovered that Louise was sitting upon one of the tallest branches, with his legs swinging under him, calling out to Fred.
''Come on Fred! Don't be a baby'' Louise teased as he climbed up onto one of the bigger trees. With their nana distracted he began to pressure Fred into climbing. Being 6 years old and the eldest of two boys, he wanted to prove to all his cousins that he was brave and strong.
''But I don't want to get into trouble with nana'' he replied innocently. Fred being 11 months younger than Louise was shy and preferred to observe rather than act.
''Nana won't know your even up here, come on. You're a baby if you don't climb Fred!'' Louise continued to taunt his younger cousin.
''Don't do it Fred, you know nana will take a way dessert for you, even if Louise gets in trouble as well. You absolute can't!'' Roxanne tried to plead her brother out of it.
''Ah come on Freddie, don't let a girl talk you out of it'' Louise pushed laughing
''Alright I'm coming, just quite down so nana doesn't hear us'' Fred finally gave in. Looking back at the girls who gave him disapproving looks he began to climb. He concentrated on pulling his body up on branch one at a time. He looked up at Louise giving him a triumph grin and began reaching for the branch Louise sat up on.
''Fredrick Weasley!'' a loud screech blew out from behind the girls. Whirling around Angie saw her nana stomp closer to the boys.
Startled, Fred lost his footing on the branch below and began to fall, as he gave a scream, he waited for the impact of the ground, but it never came. All eyes were on their nana, but her wand was pointing to Louise levitating him from the tree to the ground. With wide eyes, Molly began to turn around looking at girls, both Victoire and Roxanne had their hands covering their eyes as Angie had her ands reached out in front of her and a concentrated look on her face. Her grey eyes were a dark grey contrasting to her original light eyes. Her hands trembled as she focused on Fred as he hovered millimeters form the ground.
''Fred are you alright?'' she ran towards her cousin, uncertain if she managed to save him fully.
Fred ingulfed Angie into a tight hug, thanking her for saving his life and how wonderful of a cousin she is.
''Thank you, Angie! I promise I'll do anything you say from now on and I won't make fun of you or your books ever again'' he concluded giving her a suffocating hug. Angie laughed at her cousin as she pulled back from the hug.
''Are you sure your alright Fred?'' Molly walked over to the pair to check on Fred more thoroughly. With a wave of her wand she cased a charm to show any injuries on both Fred and Louise.
Turning angerly towards her eldest grandson, she announced that he would not be getting dessert and must help her clean up after dinner. Louise continued to apologize to both his grandmother and cousin for his actions, genuinely regretting them. Angie followed slowly behind, too focused in her own thoughts. Once inside the house the children washed up for lunch, all except Angie who sat near the window looking back at the orchard.
Molly slowly walked up to Angie not wanting to startle the poor girl. She noticed that Angie looked paler than usual, but her hands have stopped trembling.
''You did an extraordinary thing today, dear'' Molly stated gathering the little girl in her arms to sit on a soft, worn-out armchair.
''I didn't mean to use magic nana, will the ministry arrest me?'' the child responded in a worried tone, her eyes glistened with tears.
''No one is coming to arrest you, pumpkin. You did it by accident, it happens quiet often so you don't need to be worried'' Molly softly reassured her giving her a gentle kiss to her temple.
''So, I'm safe? Will mama be mad at me? Nana do you think mama will be mad at me?'' Angie began to cry. Molly rubbed soothing circles on the girl's back and let her cry. She herself was still in shock after seeing her youngest granddaughter do wandless magic. She's been around enough children to understand accidental magic but never controlled magic, let alone controlled wandless magic. Molly knew that being a child of The Hermione Granger, it was inevitable to have such a gifted child.
When Angie's cry turned to soft sniffles and heavy breathing, Molly placed the sleeping child on one of the sofas, wrapping a knitted blanket over her. The magic took out most of the little girl's energy causing her to fall asleep. Molly double checked for injuries on the child and when non showed up she left for the kitchen.
As Molly set up the table for her other grandchildren she began to wonder; How did Angie know about wandless magic? Was it truly an accident? Was she able to do it because it was a life or death moment for someone she loved and care for?
Shaking her head, she knew she had to tell Hermione and to be better prepared in case it happened again.
Hey guys, sorry for the late update. I had so much to do this week with work and college. So just a little clarification, chapter 1-5 will be based all in one day. Most of the story will be like that. I know I said Draco was gonna show up in this chapter but I got this idea of showing how smart and powerful Angie is for a very good reason that I cannot tell you about just yet.
Thanks for being patient, tell me what you think. If you guys see any mistakes please point them out. I am typing this very late. I'll fix spelling/grammar/phrasing and everything when I have time.
