She was standing
Somewhere
Some
place
Some
room?
Was it a room?
The light
bright
Nothing existed
under white
whites and yellows and reds
Blending
Breaking
And screaming
and screaming
and screaming and screamingandscream-
'Don't touch the light'
Loudly
'Don't touch the light'
Can't feel her hands
White
Hands around her body
Golden
Beautiful and holy and whole and-
'Don't touch the light'
Red
And red and red andrredandredandredandred-
ripping from her chest
"KAKYOIN"
She blinked back the tears in her eyes, breath uneven, every intake of air her throat burned. She was hunched on top of something bigger than herself. Her tendrils wrapped around it from every direction, tightening and twisting, some were held in mid-air, their sharp edges hovered inches away from the target, already drawing blood. A target that stared back at her..
Jotaro was covered in cuts and bruises. The wound besides her cheek left a trail of blood staining the bed sheets. Her red and bruised lips were moving but she couldn't hear a word. The room was a mess, broken chairs lay on the fancy hotel room, slashes across the vegetal wallpaper. Everything was too bright and moving slower than she liked. She could feel the adrenaline coursing through her body, her heart hammering hard enough to feel it in her palms.
Her eyes came back to land at Jotaro's, her lips kept moving but she didn't know what she was saying. Slowly she started to unravel herself from the girl, first her tendrils then her body. She tried to pull from where she was sitting on Jotaro's lap but her legs gave. Kakyoin tried to apologize but the blood rushing in her ears blocked out any sound she made.
Strong, steady hands clasped her face forcing her attention.
"KAKYOIN" Jotaro was practically screaming at her. Once the black haired girl knew she had finally got her attention, she said urgently. "Look at me Kakyoin, can you hear me now?"
The red head nodded slowly.
Jotaro let out a sigh "Good, can you move?"
She tried to move but the exhaustion of the past few days had come to bite her in the ass. Her hands shook as she tried to steady herself to get off of Jotaro. She shook her head.
Suddenly, she was swept up by strong arms and laid flat on her bed. She caught Jotaro winced when her hand made contact with her forearm, a deep purple creeping its way through the carmel tone of her skin.
She tried to get up but she was pushed down. "Sleep, you didn't get any on the road. I'll keep a look out for enemy stands". Kakyoin wanted to protest, yes the attack on Polnareff was a bit of a surprise but she was fine, she's just a bit tired that's all. She wanted to say all of that to Jotaro but her tongue wouldn't move when she told it to. She was suddenly overcome by a wave of exhaustion that ached through her bones. She watched as Jotaro got up from her bed and went to sit on the other, her back turned towards her. Slowly and carefully she lit a cigarette, the muscles on her back visibly relaxed as smoke wisped through the air . Kakyoin kept staring at Jotaro's back as it went up and down with every puff of smoke, her lean muscles showing through the undershirt she usually wears, her jacket disregarded on the floor. She watched the girl for a while, taking comfort in her rhythmic breathing as she fell back to sleep.
She woke up aching and sore. What she wouldn't do to just have a few minutes of rest without feeling like shit. The trip had been taxing on all of them as they all had little to no sleep while constantly being bombarded with enemy stand users. In those few days she had grown closer to the oddity they called a team, almost dying together would do that to any group of people. Slowly but carefully, she pulled herself off the bed, rubbing the sore spots on her arms. Jotaro was sitting on the floor, the content of a first aid kit splattered around her, spouting angry curses as slowly cleaned the wound with a damp cloth. She looked up and saw the guilt written over Kakyoin's face.
"Jotaro I-"
"Don't. It was an accident, you were on edge. It's fine."
"But-"
"Stop. I hate unnecessary yapping"
"Fine" she said, crossing her arms and realizing the mistake only after she felt the burst of pain. She wasn't sure if the fucking monkey cracked her ribs or broke them all together. She doubted it, her ability to breath meant something right?
"You good?" Jotaro asked, not looking up from the first aid kit she was rummaging through. It was quite thoughtful of the girl to ask, she usually wouldn't involve herself in anything that didn't warrant high levels of concern. Was her outlash that bad?
"Yeah… you?"
"Yeah, I just didn't expect it. I forgot how much a pain in the ass you are to fight"
"Who, me?" Kakyoin pouted and flashed Jotaro her biggest puppy dog eyes.
Jotaro's mouth twisted upward, barely noticeable under her cap."Says the girl that tore a man to shreds with no remorse."
"He was a mass murder Jotaro, what would you have wanted me to do give him a kiss?" she said, cocking her eyebrow.
She rolls her eyes "Right, the only two options." She let out a string of curses when she reached the wound on her shoulder.
Guilt ate at Kakyoin when she saw how many injuries she caused. It was obvious that the buff girl was struggling to reach the far end of her shoulder with all the bruises covering her. She slowly got up so as to not cause more damage to her ribs and sat behind Jotaro.
"Let me help" she said. She took it as yes when the other girl stood still. Gently, she started to rub off the excess blood around the wound before she started to work on the wound itself. Jotaro kept moving her neck, uncomfortable with the weird angle she had to hold it in for Kakyoin to see but also making it hard for her to focus.
"Hold still Jotaro" she said, placing a hand at her neck to steady her.
"I am still" she grunted back
They sat in silence as Kakyoin cleaned and patched the wound up. She had always thought that Jotrao's figure was quite interesting, a mix between harsh lines and soft curves, her muscles always leaving an impression whether it be good or bad. Her perfectly sculpted body was something Kakyoin was dying to draw. If she had told the other girl that she found muse in her body she would have said she was weird, no one had to know that, not yet at least. She wonders if she had told her that she wanted to trace her fine muscles on paper would she say no? She didn't notice when her fingers left the back of her neck and trailed the leen line of muscle on her shoulder. Jotaro flinched at her touch. Panicking, Kakyoin quickly withdrew her hand and composed herself. She mentally face palmed herself for doing something so stupid as tracing her muscle structure, why the hell did she do that. Of Course normal people don't go tracing other people's muscles.
She swiftly came up with an excuse " Sorry, I didn't know you had a star shaped birthmark I had thought it was a tattoo until I took a closer look"
Jotaro didn't say anything instead she nodded her head.
"Anyway, Kakyoin continued, "I Think you should go get that checked. I only patched it up but it looks like you might need stitches" a flush of guilt creeping up her neck.
Jotaro pulled her cap down and huffed, clearly agitated.
"I'll go with you. I should get my ribs checked, and maybe we could check on Polnareff while we're there."
She nodded in agreement.
The two teens walked out of their demolished room, hoping that the maid wouldn't mind the mess.
As soon as both got their injuries checked - Jotaro needing several stitches and Kakyoin told to take it easy till the pain subdues- they started to head to Polnereff's room. The speed wagon foundation had a branch in Singapore that dealt with stand related stuff as well as injuries. The building was a mixture between a laboratory and a hospital, since there aren't many stand related injuries that occur often patients were a rarity as well as an opportunity to advance their studies. Polnereff was seen as the labrat sent down from heaven.
"FOR THE LAST TIME I WILL NOT HAVE ANYTHING SHOVED UP MY ASS" the scream came from where Kakyoin and Jotaro were headed. The scream confirmed that it was indeed his room.
Both teens walked in to an agitated Polnareff yelling at a doctor that seemed unfazed by the scream at all. He smiled and nodded as he wrote notes on his clipboard.
"All examinations must be made for you to leave this hospital as well as a full detailed report of the enemy stand. But we may have to discuss this later, you have guests."
Polnareff blinks at them as if finally noticing them for the first time and grins.
"Hey ladies! What brings you here" he smiles slyly. His flirtatious nature was by no means aimed towards them but more so a reflex he couldn't help but act on. But it still agitated her.
"We have names Polnareff," Kakyoin said with a smile that would send shivers through the toughest of men. But he was too dense to notice.
"My apologies Kakyoin, Jotaro, where were my manners. It's been a living hell sitting here waiting to be discharged. I had no one to keep me company," he sighed dramatically "Except for those weird doctors, they kept asking if Im have side effects . I would know if it did but they just keep testing me for "unidentified substances" like Im the next fucking lab rat. Anyway, why are you guys here?"
"We came to see how you were doing as well as to do some check ups ourselves" Kakyoin said
"How did you getthat injury Jotaro?" He said pointing at the bulk of bandages peeking under her jacket.
"I got cut" not giving the man a second glance. She was rummaging through her pocket trying to look for a cigarette.
"Another enemy stand user?!"
"No"
"I accidentally hurt her" Kakyoin confessed
"Oooh was it a cat fight between the ladies" Polnareff said wiggling his nonexistent brows. Star platinum materialised immediately, their face as pissed as it's owner's.
"woah, woah Jotaro I was just kidding" raising his hands in surrender.
As annoying as Polnareff can be he didn't mean any harm by what he said, he was a man and men are difficult to say the least. She placed a hand on Jotaro's good shoulder trying to quell the anger. Jotaro pulled down her cap and gave him one last glare before summoning Star back.
Kakyoin immediately tried to steer the conversation to another direction seeing as she was the one out of both of them with better people skills. "Anyway, you said that you were here alone but doesn't Avodl come to check up on you everyday?"
The french man instantly turned red.
"How did you know he came here?"
"He doesn't necessarily keep it a secret"
As if summoned, Avdol walks into the room. Polnareff's face burns a brighter shade of red than before.
Avdol stood by the door of the room, a polite smile playing at his mouth . "Oh, hi I didn't know you guys would come to visit Polnareff too"
Kakyoin stared at both men, letting the gears of her mind work. How had she been so oblivious? She turned towards Polnareff one last time, giving him a wicked smile before grabbing Jotaro's arm gently.
"Hi Avdol Jotaro and I were just leaving to go to the pool. See you later Polnareff." and with that she hastily dragged Jotaro out with her.
When they were far enough from ear shot Jotaro cocked her head to the side and asked "what was that all about ?"
Kakyoin smiled triumphantly "Ah Jotaro" she patted her arm " Lets just say Polnareff needed a bit of privacy. Who would have thought that Polnareff the flirt could blush like that." a giggle escaped her.
She shook her head disapprovingly "Are we really going to the pool?"
"Why of course! I heard that the mosaic there was inspired by Edouard Manet's Olympia"
Jotaro stared at her from the corner of her eye, pulled down her hat and smiled. "You're such an overdramatic nerd"
Kakyoin smiled back "Me? A nerd?! Says the girl who reads fish books for fun"
"They're interesting"
"Sure" she rolled her eyes playfully.
Both girls walked out the hospital arms still linked and dangers ahead.
