Dim didn't know how long he and Roll were stuck in the cardboard box, he didn't budge nor tried to move, he was completely paralyzed, unlike Roll who screamed in his language and bounced every face of the box to get out.
The pill bug, eventually, got exhausted and reached for the terrified beetle, all his little hands rubbing his cheek to calm him down, but to no use: Dim was having bad flashbacks when he was still in a wild state, captured and held in a dark cellar. He didn't know what the human would do to them, and honestly he wasn't curious about it.
After fifteen minutes that seemed an eternity, there were finally new sounds, the creak of a door, the meowing of a cat and the human talking, probably a male?
"William! Hey William! I gotcha something!"
Dim and Roll once again hissed in pain, but the cardboard shielded their poor antennae a little, luckily.
The humans footsteps were quick, as if he was running up stairs, then another door opened
"William!!"
"AGH! Trevor, how many times have I told you not to barge in my room like that!" The other human called William replied, kinda annoyed, also male, sounded older.
"I know you had to make a research about bugs for school, so i got one for you from the fields!"
There was a pause, then William spoke again, abruptly "I got already three books i got from the library, I don't need anything else." There was a knocking sound on something that sounded like paper
"Go free whatever insect you caught before your mom finds out or Nina chases it for all the house making a mess"
The Trevor human tried to speak but all he got was a "Go" from William, then there were more footsteps, door creaking and then the box was placed on a hard surface.
Finally the lid was lifted and both Dim and Roll stared up at the Trevor human... a six year old kid, his skin was brown, his hair short and curly, brown eyes, but he had a kind and excited smile.
"Oh wow I caught two! Hey there little guys! I'm Trevor, don't worry, I'm not gonna hurt you"
"Mrrreeeow"
A cat mowed from the opened door, a striped red and white cat with green eyes, Trevor immediately shooed it away "Nina no, no chasing these little guys! Go play with your mouse plushie"
The child closed the door and returned to the box, he had expected the bigger bug to fly but it stood there firmly.
"Hey, you ok?" Trevor's innocent voice asked, he had saw them wince a little...
"What's wrong? You hungry? Imma go get something, wait here!"
Once the kid ran out, Roll tugged on Dim's leg and gestured to get out of there, but the bigger bug didn't move.
"Outta here!" The pill bug made a buzzing sound mimicking Dim's wings, he wanted to get away from there but honestly they didn't know where they were and there was a merciless hairy bug killer waiting for them.
Tuck and the others would come rescue them, for sure! His brother would come save them. Roll smiled, trying to cheer him up.
Dim, on the other hand, wasn't optimistic as his little friend.
His face seemed to lose all the brightness and innocence he had before, he didn't even spoke to Roll and settled in his place, looking down with a single tear rolling out of his right eye.
He was a burden to Rosie and everyone else.
He just made things worse.
And now he was prisoner somewhere unknown with much bigger creatures who were known to be cruel to bugs.
