A/N: Hey everybody! I would've updated sooner but the site was giving me problems all day yesterday and I couldn't get on to update this. I'm so pleased by the shocked reaction many of you had to Bella's dream! We'll find out more about that today I promise! And if there are any Harry Potter fans that are reading and like James, Lily, and the Marauders, I have a new fanfic out and would really appreciate some feedback so please check that out! In the meantime, enjoy! And P.S. I would love to dedicate this chapter to my wonderful mom! She's been so supportive of my writing ever since I started three years ago, so thank you mom, you're the best mom anyone could ever ask for! I love you so much!
Disclaimer: Do I need to say it? Not mine.
Bella POV: Quil had turned off the T.V. and turned to face me, and Embry had put his hand on my own. "What was the dream, Bella?" he asked softly.
I took a breath and began, "Well… I had been standing in the forest just outside Jake's house. There was this gigantic white wolf, and a black one was standing next to it. The black one spoke to me and it said that the one I loved was about to put himself in grave danger."
"When I asked what it meant, the white wolf spoke up and said I would find out in time, but it may not be who I expect that gets hurt. He said that it could be any of the ones I loved the most."
"So that basically means anyone in the pack," interjected Quil. "And one of is at least is going to get hurt. Such a pleasant thought," he rolled his eyes.
Embry hit him in the head with a pillow. "Let her finish you goof, this is important. If Allison, my dad, and Bella have all had these same dreams, it means something," he took a deep breath and squeezed my hand.
I took this as a sign to continue. "The wolves said that my imprint would be the one to lead the pack into battle, and that his journey would justify him as a great warrior. And his brother would have to step down from his position."
For a moment the room was deathly silent, then Embry fell back against the couch. "So… I'm going to become… Alpha?" his voice was a dead sounding monotone.
"And Sam is going to step down and allow you to do it," Quil nodded.
"But wait," Embry held up his hands. "Why haven't I gotten a dream like this? Or Sam?"
"I think the Spirit wolf said something like that," Bella said slowly. "He said it was because neither of you are in the proper mental state yet to handle such a thing. And you don't even know what the cause of it all will be, so it would be brought up with you at the right timing."
"B-but I'm not ready to be an alpha!" Embry cried, panicked. "I'm not ready to give orders, have that kind of responsibility. I'm sixteen, Sam's had a couple years with this, but he's never had to face war! I mean, I have people's lives at stake here!"
Seeing him like this was heartbreaking, but I didn't know how to reassure him. I understood his fear, and I understood that he wasn't ready for it all, but how could I make it easier for him? Shouldn't the Spirits at least have given me some guidance as to how I could be a good imprint? They basically told me everything except that! So unfortunately, I did the only thing I knew would at least calm him down for a moment. I kissed his cheek and wrapped him in a hug. "Everything will be alright," I whispered. "I'm right here, and we'll all get through this together."
"Yeah man, unless, you know… one of us gets hurt like the Spirits say, and dies. At least it would be one less brain inside your head," Quil cackled, rolling around on the couch.
I got up and hit him upside the back of the head. "You are so not helping right now," I hissed through my teeth. "Em, maybe you and Sam should talk to Joshua. You don't necessarily have to build a truce right then and there and do all the father/son bonding stuff. Just listen to him and find out how much he knows about this war."
Embry's eyebrows furrowed. "You really think I should?"
I nodded. "If you're going to take on Alpha, you need to get into the mindset of the position. Start thinking not only of your personal feelings, but about what's best for everyone else. Don't you want to know as much as possible prior to starting out a war? Or do you want to find out too much too late and risk everyone's deaths?"
I saw a flash of realization in his eyes and he sighed. "Yeah, I guess you're right. I don't like it though. I'm not the least bit interested in him or what he has to say."
"I know," I nodded. "And normally I would say you don't have to, but in this case the safety of everyone in the pack comes first."
"Alright," he exhaled. "I'll go back to my house and ask him to sit down and talk to me and Sam alone. Considering how much he's been trying to apologize to us, I'm willing to bet he's going to jump at the chance to talk to us."
I smiled. "Good. Now Em, I love you, but shoo. You need to go and work all this out."
He laughed and kissed me before walking out the door, leaving me and Qui in the living room to stare at each other.
There was a moment of silence before Quil broke into a grin. "Ten bucks they go wolf on Joshua."
