Well anyways enjoy lol

Chapter Nine: Jedi Crash

Anakin stood on the bridge of the Venator, gazing out the viewport as the void of hyperspace swirled around him. He was doing his best not to constantly glance at his wife by his side, dressed in a form-fitting jumpsuit and a dramatic cape, but that was proving difficult. To his other side stood his padawan, also looking through the transparisteel. They were surrounded by clones and a tiny togruta, so the General was unable to show Grace the affection she deserved. But with enough luck, they might find some alone time on this mission.

"Sir!" Called a clone working the controls, "We're about to come out of hyperspace!"

The trio watched the stars and planetary system start to materialize before them, having a moment to take in the peace of space before three Separatist cruisers jumped out of hyperspace ahead of them. Grace let out a sound of shock, stepping back as the cruisers began to fire on their ship. The Venator rocked as it was hit, several transports coming from the belly of the frigates.

"Our hyperspace generator is down! We can't go anywhere!" called a clone, typing furiously at his station.

The Jedi snapped to action. "We're outnumbered! Call for help. There aren't enough escape pods for all of us to make it to the planet's surface."

"They're sending boarding parties!" cried Ahsoka.

Grace was out of her element here, not having been trained in battle strategy on this level. She had with her her trusty blaster, but she knew with her combined status as a Galactic Senator and Anakin's protectiveness she was not gonna see any action unless the ship was completely overrun. Her blaster would be the last line of defense between herself and the droids aboard the steadily approaching transports.

The two Jedi ran from the bridge, lightsabers already lit as they approached the battle. Grace stood alone on the bridge, only able to watch as transports approached. She drew her blaster, ready to face whatever came her way. This was supposed to be a diplomatic mission, despite the heavy armed guard. The Venator had not been permitted to enter the orbit, instead planning only to send the two Jedi and a small group of clones. This planet was not well-documented, so they had been ready for anything. Anything except an ambush.

It was not long before Rex sped onto the bridge, bucket on and blasters out. "Senator," he greeted, "General Skywalker assigned me to get you safely to an escape pod."

She mentally sighed. He could be so over protective. She went with him anyways, giving the Captain a thank you as she was led out of the bridge. She could hear the clanking of droids and the sounds of blasters in the distance, combining with the ever-approaching sound of dying men. She prayed Anakin was okay.

Anakin swung his lightsaber through the air to deflect the seemingly infinite flurry of blaster bolts. "They just keep coming!" he remarked to his similarly occupied padawan, green lightsaber flashing through the air as she deflected the fire of their attackers. Clones behind them fell as they were struck by the clankers, enemy fire piercing through their armor. Just as many droids were going down, but they were far more replaceable.

"Great," muttered the Jedi. Super Battle droids had started to filter in, blasters blazing. The combined firepower of the wall of droids in front of them was deflected, with some difficulty, by the lightsabers, but the Venator hallways provided little cover and the clones were quickly mowed down.

"RETREAT!"

The remaining forces sprinted away as they were overrun, attempting to find more clones to reinforce them. Droid parts littered the hallways, and a pipe had burst, causing flammable fluids to leak down the walls. They were almost at a blast door when the Knight's senses alerted him to an incoming projectile. He barely turned in time to use the Force to redirect a torpedo into the wall. He had perhaps saved them from an explosion, but it had hit the flammable liquid and engulfed the hallway with fire. Fire that was spreading so incredibly fast and burning so incredibly hot that it could incinerate them all if he did not act fast. Luckily, that had been his talent from the start. Qui-Gon had found him because of his heightened reflexes, and he would be damned if he let his padawan and remaining men die because he was too slow.

He reached out, pushing the flames back with the Force.

"Master!" Ahsoka cried, rushing to help him. He did not even look behind him when he thrusted out one hand behind him, sending her and the remaining clones flying backwards through the blast door, which closed almost immediately.

"Master!" she cried again, rushing to the door and banging it with her fists. She ju,ped back with a hiss as it became hot, and a bang could be heard as something struck it. Hard.

The padawan wasted no time in igniting her lightsaber and cutting a hole in the thick metal, sending the sliced metal flying into the hallway behind her. She made sure not to get burned as she climbed through it, careful of the still smoldering edges. She gasped when she saw her master, a slice down his face and unconscious, likely with hidden burns. The hallway was covered in flames, left over from the torpedo and remaining flammable material. She put away her lightsaber and grabbed his shoulders, heaving him through the hole she had cut. The clones helped her pull him through, making for the escape pods. "We need to abandon ship," the Commander ordered. "This battle is hopeless. Evacuate and make sure the Senator is safe. We can get Master Skywalker medical attention in an escape pod."

"Yes sir!"

A clone ran off to properly broadcast the announcement, and another, Ridge, helped her drag their injured General's body to the escape pods.

"Anakin!" cried Senator McNally, who had just arrived with Rex. She turned to Ahsoka. "What happened to him?"

She winced, dragging him to an open escape pod hatch. "He was caught in an explosion, saving my life. He seems to forget that he can die too!"

The togruta, Rex, Ridge and Grace all scrambled into the escape pod with an unconscious Anakin. They shut it behind them and detached from the burning Venator, headed as quickly as they could towards the planet they were supposed to negotiate with. The tiny escape pod barely avoided the incoming volley of fire from the Separatist ships, bumping along worryingly as it was propelled towards the planet below.

"Hang on!" called the Commander, bracing herself and Anakin as they entered the atmosphere. The pod was really bumping now, and Grace had to hang on tight to stay seated. The air in the pod got hot as they broke through the atmosphere, sweat beading on her forehead as fire consumed the pod. This lasted very briefly, and soon they were bursting through clouds and clear sky, making a beeline for the quickly approaching ground. Everyone strapped themselves in, and the Senator brought a still unconscious Anakin into her lap to protect him from the rough landing they were about to experience.

The tiny craft hit the ground at high speeds, sending dirt and grass flying in its wake as it carved through the ground. They slid and bumped for several long moments before the pod slowed with a screech of metal. Ahsoka unstrapped herself immediately, opening the pod door. Rex and Grace picked up Anakin, carrying him out of the pod to place him on the ground. She looked at him and winced; he was not in good shape. "He needs medical attention!"

Rex walked over, taking his bucket off and nodding. "There are medkits in the pod, sir. They won't be able to do much, but maybe we can disinfect his wounds and bandage him up a bit."

She nodded. "Get them out. We still don't know the extent of his injuries, and it would be best to get him fixed up before we make a camp."

While the Captain entered the pod to get the medkit, the Commander was looking around. "There's nothing on the horizon as far as we can see. I'll take Ridge and scout ahead, can you handle my Master alone?"

Grace nodded, concern for the young padawan flowing through her. "Be careful, alright? Be back by dark." She put a hand on the young girl's arm. She did not miss the resilience in her friend's eyes.

"Will do, Senator. Ridge, let's go."

The Senator watched the duo head off, turning back to her husband. "Oh Ani," she whispered, caressing his face. She quickly snatched her hand away, however, when Rex returned from gathering medical supplies. She took the medkits from him with a "thank you," and set about cataloguing the supplies they had. There were a few bacta syringes and adhesive bandages, as well as bacta patches and disinfectants. There were also rolls of gauze and a needle and thread. She hoped he didn't need that. She turned her gaze to her husband, taking in his visible injuries. His face was cut up and burnt, and he likely had head trauma. Grace cut off a small piece of gauze and put some disinfectant on it before gently rubbing her husband's facial wounds, He hissed in pain, even in his sleep, and she winced. Once the wound was clean she applied an adhesive bandage, covering his cheek in white.

This left the rest of his injuries hidden under his Jedi robes. She was very well-versed in removing them, but she intentionally showed down her pace for Rex's benefit, pretending that she wasn't able to remove it in ten seconds flat when she was properly motivated. He had busied himself with being on watch, blasters drawn as he surveyed the plains before him. He paid no mind to the Senator and General; he suspected too much already. The less he knew the better.

Grace finally removed his tunic and armor, revealing his muscled chest. It was covered in shiny red burns, and he was bruised all over his abdomen. She wet another piece of gauze in disinfectant and wiped down his chest, pretending not to notice it glisten in the sunlight. Once finished, she took stock of the bacta patches and distributed them across the burns. Then, to be sure they stayed in place, she took a roll of gauze and wrapped his chest in the white fabric. She was disappointed to have to hide his muscled pecs, but she could look at them all she wanted after they got back home.

After some internal debate she decided to leave his tunic off, strictly for medical reasons. This way she could monitor his injuries better. No other reason.

Grace sighed and got up. They needed to set up camp.

Grace saw Ahsoka and Ridge returning long before they arrived, the sun starting to set as they trudged back from their long scouting mission. She and Anakin were set up in the escape pod, the General still unconscious as she kept watch over him. It was worrying that he had still not woken up, but he was still breathing. That was all the comfort she could take, here in unfamiliar territory.

The scouting party finally arrived at the pod, sitting down. They looked exhausted, which was to be expected when one walked for several hours without rest. The Senator passed them a bottle of clean water she had found in the escape pod, and they made sure not to drink too much.

"We saw signs of civilization, but it would have taken too long to get close enough to check it out. If we wanted to investigate it further we would not be able to return by dark."

Rex nodded, sparing a glance at his General. "Skywalker is too heavy for us to move right now. We may need to get help from the locals, but we cannot bring him."

"We may need help if they have healers," added Grace. "Anakin still has not woken up, and I'm worried about his condition. None of us are medical experts, and we have very limited supplies."

Ahsoka nodded, considering. "At dawn I can set out for the village while Rex and Ridge stay behind to guard you and my Master."

"With respect, Commander," argued Rex, "they may be hostile and too much for you alone. It would be best if we came along."

"I'm good with a blaster," said Grace, "I can guard Anakin myself. There has been no sign of prey, and the escape pod provides good cover."

The togruta frowned, but her friend placed a reassuring hand on her arm. "We'll be fine, Ahsoka."

"Alright. At dawn we leave."

There were no rations to be found in the escape pod, so this settlement may be able to provide food as well. As the sun set over the horizon Rex went on watch, allowing everyone else to rest. Senator McNally sept between Anakin and the escape pod door, knowing that if she could not cuddle with him she would protect him. Her blaster was on the ground in front of her as she slept, curled on her side and facing the night. Everyone else was sleeping outside, as there was not enough room for them all to fit inside in their sleep, seeing as Anakin took up the majority of the space.

The Jedi was far enough from his wife that she did not notice when he stirred, opening his eyes groggily. He looked at the escape pod ceiling, confused. Where was he? His head was pounding, and he felt something on his cheek. He reached up to touch it, and his flesh hand was able to detect the texture of gauze. His hand flopped onto his stomach and he quietly hissed in pain as it smacked bruises there. He started trying to sit up, trying to get his bearings, but he groaned in pain and flopped back down. He was exhausted. Maybe he should just close his eyes. Yes, that was a good idea, maybe just rest a bit longer…

Grace sat beside her husband and gazed out at the plains. The clones and Ahsoka had left about an hour ago, and she was still worried for Anakin. She needed a distraction, and it would come in the form of changing his bandages.

She peeled a bandage off his cheek, noting the blood on it. She replaced it and moved on to his chest. The bruising had gotten darker, but the burns seemed to be healing well. She was about to reapply bandages to his chest when a hand reached out and seized her wrist. She yelped and almost dropped the roll of gauze, but she calmed herself enough to look down and realize it was Anakin's hand. Her eyes shifted to his face, and she smiled as she saw his eyes open.

"Oh, Ani!" she exclaimed, bending over to smother him in a hug. He returned her embrace a bit weakly, still confused about everything.

"Grace, my love," he said. "What… what happened?"

She withdrew from the hug, setting about reapplying his bandages. "You decided to risk your life- again- and, surprise surprise, you got hurt. We took an escape pod to this planet and landed here yesterday. Ahsoka, Rex and Ridge set off to see if they could find a settlement."

He nodded as best he could from his position lying down. Once she had finished with the bandages he tried to sit up, clenching his teeth to hide his pain. She helped him, propping him against the escape pod wall. He cupped her cheek tenderly. "Thank you for taking care of me, Grace."

She smiled, leaning into his touch. "You would do the same for me."

She moved from her position crouching beside him to straddle him, kneeling with her legs outside of his. "You said we were alone, right?" He asked, his hand moving to the small of her back and getting progressively lower.

She smirked, leaning in to whisper in his ear, "I did."

With that he angled his head so that their lips met, hand pulling her closer so that she was in his lap. She made sure not to put too much pressure on his wounds, but her hand did trace the hard lines of his muscled chest, running her fingers over his pecs. She tangled her other hand in his hair, using it to angle his face for the kiss. His mechanical hand, which was behind her, circled around to the front. He broke their kiss to tear his glove off with his teeth, pressing a button on his wrist that he had designed specifically for her, for this. A buzzing sound filled the escape pod as his fingers began to vibrate, just the way she liked it.

It was well past dark when Ahsoka and the clones returned, accompanied by a tiny creature. If Grace remembered correctly it was a Lurmen, a sentient species that lived in peace. The lurmen saw the escape pod and leapt, curling into a ball as it sped towards the two people inside. The Senator stepped protectively in front of her husband as it approached, springing back into standing position in front of her.

"I am Wag Too," it proclaimed. "I am here to bring your General to our village for medical aid."

Grace gave him a glance. He was unconscious again, but luckily he had been awake for several hours before passing out.

"I appreciate your help, Wag Too. I am Senator McNally of Naboo."

He bowed his head. "Come quickly. We have no time to waste."

Her friends had finally arrived, and with her help they loaded Anakin's body onto a stretcher they had brought. It was with haste that they set out once more, trudging through the night. Ahsoka had her lightsaber out and ignited, using it to ward off possible predators and serve to light their way. Grace was right behind the stretcher, blaster drawn and ready to fire. As the hours wore on, however, she became less vigilant.

It was day by the time they arrived at the village, a small settlement of tiny homes and many lurmen gazing curiously at the outsiders. The outsiders in question were exhausted, having taken turns carrying the stretcher and walking several hours. All the Senator wanted to do was lie down and sleep, but she stayed close by the Knight's side as they walked through the village. Eventually Wag Too stopped them at a house, as uniform as the rest but clearly their destination. He opened the door and led them inside, where they laid Anakin on the ground. A few other lurmen had become brave enough to enter the house for a better look at the outsider, and they were standing over him with wide eyes.

Anakin groaned, eyes fluttering open. He looked up groggily to see furred faces looking down at him inquisitively. His brows furrowed in confusion.

"Uh, Grace?"

End of chapter!
