Ch 5. Planning to save Minerva

He had spent the entire evening watching the graduates celebrate their last night at Hogwarts from the head table, alone. Usually, Albus would be out on the floor dancing with Minerva but she hadn't appeared tonight and by the expression on James Potter's face she wasn't likely to show up anytime soon. The look on the boys face was enough to make Albus laugh but he had to keep his composer in front of all of these people for Minerva's sake. But Albus wanted to know what Minerva had said to the boy but he could only guess but whatever she had said left the boy shattered which serves him right for messing with a strong woman like Minerva. The boy was doomed from the very first time he planned on harming her; Potter just didn't know it yet but now he certainly did.

He was proud of her for standing up for herself even though it was the most hardest things emotionally and physically she would ever have to go through; he was proud to have her back but in order to have her back fully he had to save her from death's embrace.

"Now all I have to do is save you from self-destruction my dear." With a heavy sigh, Albus pushed his chair back and stood wanting to get out of the Great Hall; away from all the joy and happiness. Albus had one thing he wanted to do before going to Minerva - Talk to James Potter.

James was sitting at a table in the darkest corner with Miss Evans, who was trying to get him to dance but he wouldn't budge. The only movement he managed was to flinch when he was the Headmaster walking towards his table.

"Hello Mr. Potter and Miss Evans." Albus smiled at the young couple in an effort to hold his temper.

"Hello Headmaster." The two said in sync.

"Why do you have such a sad expression on your face, James? This is the time for celebration for you are free from these walls and are now able to start a new life in the Wizarding world. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you two the best of luck and many years together. Goodnight."

Before walking away Albus leaned towards James and whispered so that only he could hear the Headmaster's words. "She won and you will regret what you have done to her. Min is stronger than you think."

Once the Headmaster was gone, Lilly looked at James with concern in her eyes.

"James, what did he say to you?" James took her hands in his and with a tremble in his voice he said the only thing that came to his mind. "I will regret what I have done. Lilly, there's something I need to tell you and you're not going to like it."

For the next two hours, Lilly listened in horror as James told her everything that had happened during the past year. She couldn't believe what he was telling her; he had made Professor McGonagall - her favorite professor - into his mistress in order to survive and she was stronger than he expected and now he was afraid for his life. He was a vampire and it didn't bother her one bit but the survival of McGonagall would mean doom for them all. Lilly decided that even though she looked up to McGonagall, she would make sure that the woman didn't live to see her marry James.

Albus had no clue how he was going to explain to Minerva that his blood was going to save her. No one knew that his blood held the key to immortality - he was not immortal but if Minerva drank his blood then she would be. The only reason Albus knew about his bloods special abilities was because of a freak accident that happened in his youth and the rabbit was still in a cage in his quarter, almost seventy years after the fact. He would have to explain all of it to Minerva eventually but right now he needed to hold her in his arms.

He walked to the back of her classroom to the bookshelf behind her desk and began looking for the book that would allow him to enter her quarters. "Here it is. Jane Eyre*, your favorite book." He pulled the book from the shelf and whispered the password and walked through the door.

He expected to find her curled up on her sofa perhaps with a book trying to relax or even grading papers at her oak desk but when he walked into her living room he was greeted by emptiness. The room was usually warm and inviting but it held the negative energy that came from Minerva's argument with James. The room was unsettling and made Albus want to find Minerva just to make sure she was alright. Albus walked to her bedroom door only to pause which allowed his mind to wander as to what he would find behind the door. But pushing his worst expectations to the side he opened the door slowly hoping that he was wrong about what he would find. He walked into the darkened room and found Minerva lying in the center of her bed curled up under the blankets fast asleep.

Even though she was sleeping peacefully, she was only a shell of her former self but it warmed his heart knowing that she had been able to stay strong long enough for him to save her. No one mattered more to him than Minerva even though they had never acted on their mutual affection for each other, he loved her with his entire being and all he had to do now was to offer her his blood and she would be restored to her former glory. His strong-willed witch but he would have a hard time convincing her to drink his blood but then an idea popped into his head - he would lure her to feed by playing with her desire to be loved.

A/N: Jane Eyre is my favorite book. :) Just saying.
