Hi guys. Just wanted to say thank you for reading so far. Just a little warning for injury detail and some mild violence in this chapter and the next. Thanks for reading and do keep reviewing if you have anything to say good or bad. Thanks. X
Murdoch, George, Henry and Sam were making the way to the crime scene by bicycle. Not Sam's preferred method of transport but Murdoch had insisted so the others joined him. George and Henry didn't like it very much either but didn't want to upset Murdoch so just went along with it.
"Are we nearly there yet?" Sam groaned.
"Be patient Samantha! We'll get there." Murdoch urged.
"But everyone else will be there before us."
"Just be patient!" Murdoch repeated.
Sam looked to Henry and George for support but the two stayed quiet as they didn't want to get involved. Sam would just have to make do with the bike. It wouldn't be long until they got there anyway.
"What's the case sir?" George asked to change the subject.
"I don't know yet George, we'll find out when we get there." Murdoch answered.
"So we don't even know what we're going to?!" Sam chirped up.
Murdoch gave his daughter a glare that meant she shouldn't ask him any more questions. Sam just looked in front of her for the rest of the journey.
"Here we are." Murdoch said as they pulled up alongside every other mode of transport the station had.
It was then clear everyone else had been there a while. Sam really wanted to mention this but kept it on the back burner until they went back to the station. George could tell she was keeping something back.
"What's up?" George whispered to her.
"I really want to say something." Sam smiled.
"You're entitled to. I'd back you up." George smiled back.
Sam chuckled under her breath. George always knew how to make her smile. Murdoch had noticed the relationship his daughter had with George but didn't want to ask either about it in case they snapped back at him in return.
"You're late." Brakenreid jokes.
"Don't." Murdoch waved away the comment.
Brakenreid kept a smile back as it was obvious Murdoch had had it in the neck the whole journey. As Murdoch looked around the scene it was clear that the officers who had got there first had pretty much cleaned up and the four that had been on bikes were no longer needed.
"Sorry Murdoch. Just lucky I guess." Brakenreid shrugged.
"Yeah. Something like that." Murdoch sighed.
"You look awful!"
"Didn't sleep well last night I guess." Murdoch smiled.
"Do you need to see a doctor or something?" Brakenreid suggested.
"No. No I'm fine." Murdoch dusted himself off.
However much Murdoch said this, Brakenreid was still concerned about Murdoch. Maybe Sam was taking it all out of him, he wouldn't be surprised!
"Go back to the station." Brakenreid said finally.
"But sir…" Murdoch protested.
"That's an order Murdoch." Brakenreid changed his tone.
Murdoch could tell he wasn't going to get out of this one. He would have to go back to the station whether he liked it or not. Sam, George and Henry were waiting for him.
"Back to the station sir?" George asked.
"Yes George it seems so." Murdoch shrugged.
"Dad…" Sam tried to say but Murdoch ignored her and just got onto his bike ready to go back.
"Let's go." Murdoch urged.
George, Henry and Sam looked at each other but before anyone could say anymore, Murdoch was already gone. They quickly got on their bikes and tried to keep up with him.

They all managed to get back to the station. Murdoch went storming in without a second thought of the others. George and Henry followed soon afterwards. Sam was left standing out there for a little bit.
"Something on your mind?" James Pendrick said from behind her.
"What are you doing here?" Sam asked, a little bit angry.
"Oh nice to see you too!"
"Sorry I didn't mean it like that. Just an annoying day."
"I can see that! Need some time off?"
"Why?" Sam asked, wondering what Pendrick was going to suggest. He just gave her a kid-like grin.
Pendrick then walked into the street looking back for her. Sam looked into the station and then caught up with Pendrick still oblivious to what he was going to do.
"Where are we going?" Sam asked after they had walked for a bit.
"You'll see." James smiled back.

"George where is Samantha?" Murdoch said running into the bullpen.
Murdoch hadn't seen his daughter since they had left the crime scene. He hadn't made an effort to go and look for her but he couldn't find her anywhere.
"I think she's gone home." George lied.
"Really?" Murdoch asked, crossing his arms.
"Okay she hasn't told us where she's gone. She must have gone out on her own." George gave in.
"I bet she isn't." Henry said under his breath.
"What's that supposed to mean?!" Murdoch said in a stern tone.
"Nothing sir." Henry said getting back to work.
Murdoch looked at the door hoping Sam would walk through it. George and Henry wanted to do something but unless they found Sam out of thin air it wouldn't work.
"I'm sure she'll be here soon." George tried to make the detective more happy.
Murdoch didn't respond to this and just walked slowly back to his office. It was clear to anyone in five miles that Murdoch wasn't feeling good and this wouldn't make it any better.
"Maybe we should go and look for her." George suggested to Henry.
"It's your turn!" Henry snapped back.
"Does it matter?"
"Yes!"
George sighed at Henry. Maybe he was right. Sam knew how to look after herself and George had a lot of work to be getting on with. She would be fine for a few hours without him.

Sam and Pendrick finally came to a stop outside of town. They were right near the river that ran in one of the woods. James sat on a tree that had fallen over. Sam stayed standing throwing pebbles into the river.
"This any better?" James asked her.
"A lot. Nice to get somewhere different." Sam smiled.
"Your job annoys you then?" James tried to make trouble.
Sam gave him a sarcastic look. James smiled as he continued to watch the river rush past. They then heard screaming coming from the other side of the river. James stood up straight away.
"What was that?!" Sam whispered.
"Let's get out of here." James whispered back.
"But what if they need help?" Sam hissed.
"Then the police will deal with it. Come on." James grabbed her hand.
Sam looked back to see if she could see anything but couldn't. She then followed James back to town. Hopefully someone else would deal with it.

Sam and James finally made their way into town. They were smiling but still on edge thanks to what they had just heard by the river. Sam just wanted to get back to work however, so James had told her he would go with her.
"Samantha." Murdoch said from the station door.
Sam gulped as she saw her father's face come into view. He didn't look happy either. James walked back a few paces trying to get out of whatever trouble Sam might be in.
"Stop right there Pendrick!" Murdoch stopped him.
James stopped in his tracks. He then joined Sam again and stood in front of Murdoch.
"Where have you been?!" Murdoch crossed his arms.
"She just wanted some air." James spoke up for Sam.
"I wasn't asking you." Murdoch rolled his eyes.
"I just wanted some air. That's all." Sam answered.
"Where?"
"By the river. Away from everything else."
"Constables have just been sent there. You could have been in danger!"
"I don't care!" Sam cried.
This took Murdoch back a bit. Sam never spoke to him like that. James was also surprised that she had answered like that. He was kind of proud that she had finally spoken up like that however. Murdoch straightened his suit and put his hands behind his back.
"Go home Samantha." Murdoch said again.
"No. I have a job here." Sam snapped.
"Not any longer you haven't." Murdoch shook his head.
"What?!" Sam nearly cried.
Sam's eyes nearly filled up with tears because of this reaction from her father. She loved her job here and Murdoch knew that more than anyone. James stood there quiet not knowing what to say. He didn't know whether to support Murdoch or Sam. Sam turned to him for support but he also got a glare from Murdoch.
"Maybe I should go." James said leaving.
"Wait…" Sam tried to stop him.
Too late. James was already gone. Sam turned back to her father.
"Now look what you've done!" Sam cried.
"Me?!" Murdoch chirped back.
"This is all your fault!"
"Sam calm down."
"Calm down?! I just lost my job and you're telling me to calm down!"
"Samantha…"
"No. I quit. Why would I want to work with you anymore?"
"S…."
"I hate you!" Sam cried as she ran away from the station.
"Samantha!" Murdoch shouted trying to run after her.
She was already gone however. Murdoch looked back at the station. Constables that were left turned back to their work. They had obviously been watching and listening to the whole thing. Great!
000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Samantha rounded the next street corner and found an alley way to sit down in. She put her knees up to her chest for comfort. She then put her head on top of them. She had just lost her job and maybe even worse, her father. What was she going to do now?
