Julia was just about to finish for the day. Her day at the hospital felt like it had gone on for ages! She loved to work there but sometimes the day just seemed to drag. She couldn't wait to go home and see the rest of her family. True it would be a while until she saw William as he always finished very late. She passed a lot of her colleagues on the way out and was finally stopped by one of them. A nurse.
"Going home for the day doc?" The nurse smiled at her.
"I hope so." Julia said staring out of the window which now seemed to be covered in rain.
"I'm sure your journey will be fine." The nurse tried to reassure her.
The rain didn't seem to stop as the conversation continued. The rain lashed against the windows like it was a lion springing on its prey. The day had been really nice but it just seemed to have clouded over.

"Crabtree get an ambulance now!" Brakenreid called out to the constables.
George didn't want to leave the two Murdochs but did what the inspector told him and went outside with Higgins to find a telephone. Higgins looked like he was going to be sick so that's why he was all too happy to leave with George.
"There must be one around here somewhere." George looked around.
"Can I be excused?" Higgins asked.
George just nodded as Higgins went away. George sighed a sigh of relief when he saw a telephone coming up near him. He raced over to it hoping it was still working with the dockyard out of use now.
"Thank God." George whispered as the phone rang out.
George seemed to talk through the phone for ages according to Higgins as he re-joined him. Higgins didn't want to go back in and George seemed like he also wanted to stay outside. He loved both detectives but knew someone had to wait for the ambulance to arrive.
"How did the detective look George?" Higgins said.
"I'm not a doctor Henry." George waved away his friend.
"I know you're not but…" Higgins tried and failed to get an answer from George.
Higgins nodded as he paced around the ground. He seemed to walk so much he must have worn the ground below him out. George on the other hand was sted firm. He hadn't moved since the conversation with the people on the phone had ended.
"Higgins?" The inspector called from the entrance of the dockyard.
Higgins ran over to the inspector hoping he wouldn't be sick again. The inspector could see the feeling spreading across Higgins' face.
"Did Crabtree manage to get an ambulance?" The inspector asked quietly once Higgins had come over.
"Yes. I think so, George is being really quiet sir." Higgins nodded over to George.
"I can see why." The inspector groaned.
"How's…" Higgins asked hopefully.
The inspector just shook his head however. Higgins sighed heavily. The detective had looked after him for quite a while and now it seemed that might have to come to an end.
"Is there any way of contacting Doctor Ogden?" Brakenreid asked.
"I'm not sure sir." Higgins put his hand behind his neck.
"Well try. She needs to know."
Brakenreid walked back into the dockyard building. Higgins could see the concern on his face but knew not to think much of it and just walked back to George again hoping they could contact Julia somehow.
"We need to speak to Doctor Ogden." Higgins suggested on the advice of Brakenreid.
"I know Henry but I don't think I can." George sighed.
"Then I'll do it."
Higgins picked up the phone and dialed in the hospital number both he and George had put to memory. He tapped his fingers on the device which held the phone as he waited for the number to call through.
"I just hope I can get her in time." Higgins sighed.
"What time does she finish?" George asked.
"Soon."
George bite his fingernails. This was already nerve racking without the added pressure of Doctor Ogdens reaction as well.
"Yes can you put me through to Doctor Ogden please?" Higgins asked into the phone.
"I'm afraid she's left for the day. Can I leave a message?" The answer came back.
"Is there any way of getting to her?" Higgins pleaded.
"I can have a look but I can't promise anything." The person said.
"Please just try." Higgins urged.

The nurse who had answered the phone put the phone down as she ran along the corridors. She looked into every room to see if Julia was in it. No luck! She continued to run even though it probably broke seven different rules!
"Doctor Ogden?" She called out hoping to get an answer.
She carried on. Suddenly running to a dead end at an end of a corridor. Luckily there were two people standing at the end of it. One of them was Doctor Ogden!
"Doctor Ogden." She called.
Julia turned to see the young nurse out of breath and somewhat sweating. She had obviously been running for a long time.
"Yes, what is it?" Julia asked in shock.
"There's someone on the phone for you." The nurse answered.
"Is it urgent?!" Julia smiled.
"Sounds so."
Julia said goodbye to the nurse she was talking to and followed the other nurse to the phone she had left. The nurse gave her the phone and Julia got ready for what she was going to be told.
"Hello?" Julia said.
"Julia, it's Henry." Henry's voice answered back.
Julia was very confused as to why the constable was ringing at this hour. She took it in her stride however, and continued the conversation.
"What is it Henry?" She asked.
"It's detective Murdoch."
Julia had many calls like this and knew why someone was calling when someone said this. Anything concerning William or Sam meant that they were injured or something else had happened.
"What's happened?" Julia asked, gulping down a lump in her throat.
"He's been shot. We've called an ambulance but I think you should be here." Henry continued.
Julia nearly dropped the receiver at this point. William had been gravely injured before but never this bad! Well apart from that time he was hit by an arrow or that time…. Okay maybe he has been in quite a few scrapes like this before.
"Maybe I should stay here. You don't want more people getting in the way." Julia finally said, holding back feelings of wanting to go.
"Are you sure?" Higgins asked a little taken aback.
"Yes. Look after him until he gets here." Julia put the receiver down.

Higgins stared at the receiver as he put it down gently. He would have thought Doctor Ogden would be jumping at the chance to be here but obviously not.
"What did she say?" George asked looking up from the ground.
"She's going to wait at the hospital until we get there." Higgins turned to face George.
George was a bit less confused than Higgins but was still a little bit shocked at this response.
"George!" A shout came from inside the building sounding like Sam's voice.
"I'd better go." George pointed back.
Higgins just chuckled and let him go. George ran back into the building hoping nothing else had gone wrong.
