"The ambulance is on it's way." Brakenreid called to Sam who had been left alone with Murdoch.
The other police officers had either gone to find the person who had done this or gone back to the station to start work on the case. Sam hadn't said anything but Brakenreid didn't want a lot of people just milling around. Plus they all looked up to Murdoch, if they saw him injured they might go crazy, leave or maybe even worse, complain!
"Thanks sir." Sam whispered as she nodded.
Brakenreid could tell she wanted to be alone. Luckily George walked in at the right time. He walked over to him for some sort of conversation. Sam turned to Murdoch.
"You hear that dad. They're going to be here any minute." Sam tried to keep her father in good spirits.
Murdoch just gave a slight nod. Sam kept her spirits up but knew Murdoch was in a dangerous state. The ambulance needed to get there and fast. She put her coat on Murdoch's chest and tried to keep pressure on it as best she could. Murdoch's eyes fluttered from open to close.
"Dad? Dad!" Sam tried to keep William awake.
It was no use however, and Murdoch's eyes closed. Sam looked to George and the inspector. Brakenreid shook his head as he came closer.
"Don't you do this Murdoch do you hear me?!" Brakenreid pretty much shouted as loud as possibly could.
Murdoch didn't respond but sounds of sirens came from outside the building. The officers cheered as the ambulance pulled up and took the detective away.
Sam stood up and looked down at her hands. They were covered in red, I don't exactly want to disgust you reader so won't go to the full extent of the redness, Sam gulped down a feeling of being sick.
"Sam?" George asked walking over to her and putting his arm around her.
"I need to go with him." Sam said.
"I don't think that's a good idea." George tried to comfort her. He rubbed her shoulder.
"But.." Sam tried to say.
"You two get back to the station." Brakenreid called over to them.
Sam tried to call something back but to no avail so nodded. Higgins soon joined them. He hadn't been asked for but had seen Murdoch taken out so didn't have to see any more blood. Sam gave a little smile when he arrived.
"We're going to the station Henry. You coming?" George asked.
"Yeah. The inspector said I could." Henry nodded in reply.
Sam walked forward a bit and then waited for the other two to join her. Henry and George walked their quickest walk to keep up with her. The inspector watched them leave worried but sure they were going to be "mostly" fine.

Sam threw her coat onto the coat rack. She put her hand to her face as she went into the toilet. George went to go follow her but was held back by Henry.
"Not a good idea George." Henry urged.
"But we can't just leave her." George tried to urge him back.
"Maybe some time alone would do her good."
"And what if it doesn't?"
"Just give her some time."
Henry walked over to his desk. George looked to the toilets once more and then joined Henry working.
"You're right. Sam will come out soon anyway." George told himself and also told Henry.
Pendrick had heard about the commotion so edged his way into the station. After the last time he had seen Murdoch, he didn't exactly want to see him again. He was happy to see George and Henry at their desks however.
"Hey James." Henry said as he stood up to greet the guest.
"George, Henry." Pendrick meeted them back.
"What are you doing here?" George asked.
"I heard about what happened. I just wanted to know how you were all doing." James looked around the station.
"Most of the officers are still at the crime scene." George answered him.
"Then how are you holding up?"
"Been better." George put his head down.
"What about you Henry?" James looked over to Higgins.
"About the same Mr Pendrick." Henry nodded at George.
"You don't have to call me that." James smiled.
James looked around the station once again. There was obviously something missing apart from the other officers. George and Henry looked at each other. They knew who he was really looking for.
"Sam's in the toilet." George finally answered.
"How did you…" James said surprised.
George gave him a sarcastic look. James smiled it off once again. He didn't want to go into the toilet to find Sam. plus she wouldn't be too happy to see him in the toilet.
"I'll wait for her out here." James decided.
"Good idea." Henry patted him on the back.
Henry and George sat back behind their desks and got on with their work until the inspector came back with the case. James sat down at Sam's desk waiting for her. It was cluttered with papers and pens, he wasn't surprised at all!

"Come on Murdoch stay with us." Brakenreid said as the ambulance pulled its way along.
Brakenreid had decided to go with Murdoch so he had someone to wake up to. Even if Murdoch hadn't exactly wanted to see his face. He didn't want Sam being upset for the rest of the day so had gone instead.
"Are we there yet?" Brakenreid asked the driver impatiently.
"We are nearly." The driver answered.
"Well hurry up!" Brakenreid shouted.
The driver went to pull a face but thought better of it. Brakenreid didn't have the time for jokes right now. The ambulance went over a pothole which sent the whole vehicle flying. Brakenreid and the stretcher carrying the injured Murdoch came back down with a thump.
"Careful!" Brakenreid called again, getting more and more angry.
Murdoch groaned as his eyes fluttered open once again. Brakenreid peered over him once he had done this. Murdoch gave a slight smile out of the side of his mouth.
"Sir." Murdoch whispered.
"Shush. Save your strength." Brakenreid ordered the detective.
"Yes sir." Murdoch smiled again.
Murdoch's eyes closed again but it was clear to Brakenreid he was still listening. Brakenreid tutted and turned back to the window. The world rushed past on their way.
"Here we are." The driver finally said, after what felt like hours.
Brakenreid looked away from the window. He could see the hospital get closer in front of his eyes. He looked at Murdoch once again and got ready to try and face Julia.
