Chapter 54: Only Child/Favourite Sister
Bluey and Bingo were at the backyard with Snickers, who had come to visit with his mother. The trio was trying to get something to play, but they were not having that much luck. "Ugh! I'm bored!" Bluey said laying on her back. "Me too!" Bingo said. "Me three!" Snickers said while also laying on his back. It was then that he got up. "I have an idea!" Snickers said. "Really? What's that?" Bluey asked, looking at her friend. "Let's play K9 news!" Snickers said. Bluey and Bingo formed a smile. "Okay! What news are we going to cover?" Bluey asked. "Um… kids who are only children!" Snickers said. "Like you?" Bingo asked. "Nah the game won't work if you're interviewing me," Snickers said. "Then who do we interview?" Bluey asked. "Well we need someone who is or at least was an only child and ask them what it was like or is like," Snickers explained. "Hmm…" Bluey she started to think. "Oh! Maybe mum is an only child!" Bluey said, wagging her tail. "Then let's go ask her!" Bingo asked. "Yeah!" Snickers said.
The three then went to the kitchen where Chilli and Snickers mum were talking. "Really? Then what did you do?" Chilli asked Snicker's mum. "Well…" she started, only to stop when the kids got in. "Mum?" Bluey asked her mother. "Yes sweetie?" Chilli asked. "Are you an only child?" Bluey asked as she wagged her tail. "Um… well… no…" Chilli said. Bluey and Bingo were both confused by this. "You're not?" Bingo asked. "No sweetie I'm not you both actually have an aunt but we don't talk much," Chilli explained. "Oh is she Thomas's aunt too now?" Bluey asked. "Yeah by marriage," Chilli explained. "Oh… we're trying to find someone who is an only child…" Bingo said.
"Hey, Snicker's mum, are you an only child?" Bluey asked. "No, I have two younger brothers and I was very little when the first one was born to remember well," Snicker's mother said. "Yeah, I forgot about my uncles… they are so great…" Snickers said. "What are you kids playing anyway with these questions?" Chilli asked. "K9 news!" All three said. "We need someone who was or is an only child to interview them," Bluey explained. "Now that's some news story," Chilli said. "But we can't find someone to do the story with," Bingo said looking down. "Well, I do know someone you can interview… and he lives right under this very roof…" Chilli started to say. "It can't be dad, uncle Rad is older than him," Bluey said looking at her mother. "Actually… I was going to say your brother, he was an only child for a while," Chilli said while making some tea. "Oh yeah!" Bluey said now looking at her sister and friend. "Let's interview him!" Snickers said. "Yeah!" The girls said before running off to find their brother. "Just don't torture him!" Chilli called out with a smile. "Kids am I right?" Snicker's mum said with a chuckle. "Yeah… okay, what were you saying about Bill?" Chilli asked looking at Snickers mum.
Meanwhile Thomas was painting a picture while listening to music through his earbuds at the garage. "Thomas!" Bluey and Bingo shouted while running into the Garage. Thomas was too busy listening to his music, while focusing on his painting that he didn't notice his sisters and their friend behind him. "Big brother!" Bingo shouted while tugging on her brother's tail. "Oh hey! Sorry, guys, I didn't notice you," Thømas said, taking out an ear bud. "What are you doing?" Bluey asked. "Making some art pieces for Uncle Rad's wedding," Thomas replied. "Ooh! I can't wait to see that!" Bluey exclaimed, wagging her tail. "Bluey the interview," Snickers said. "Oh! Can you play with us?" Bluey asked, wagging her tail. Thomas then checked his phone and then looked at his sister. "Yeah I guess for a little bit," Thomas said, while putting down his painting brush and palette. "Hooray!" The kids cheered.
Now outside in the backyard. Snickers and Bluey had set up a pretend camera and mic for Thomas to use. "So what are we playing?" Thomas asked, taking the mic. "K9 news! And the story is what it's like being an only child!" Snickers explained. "But I'm not an only child, or at least not anymore," Thomas said looking at the kids. "That's the story! You used to be one," Bluey said, now getting ready to take notes. "Ah, I see," Thomas said. "So tell us Thomas, what was it like being an only child?" Bluey asked. "Uh… well growing up, toys were always mine and attention on me was important," Thomas answered. "Did dad play with you like he does with us?" Bluey asked with a smile. "Yeah most of the time but mostly I played with uncle Stripe," Thomas answered. "How come?" Bluey asked, pretending to write something down. "Well, dad worked a lot more than he does now and when uncle Strike came to visit, he had all the time for me," Thomas answered.
"When dad didn't work, what games did you play?" Bingo asked. "Um, there was the game space dog we played," Thomas answered. "Ooh! Can we play that next," Bluey asked. "Maybe after I'm done working on these paintings for uncle Rad," Thomas answered. "Oh, I want to help with those!" Bingo exclaimed. "Oh me too, we both can make art for uncle Rad and Frisky," Bluey added. "Focus guys!" Snickers said holding the fake video camera. "Right, sorry Snickers, anyways did you like being an only child?" Bluey asked, looking at her brother. "Eh it was kinda lonely at times," Thomas answered remembering the time he and Bandit went to funland and being asked if he would be a good brother. "Did you always want to be a brother?" Bluey asked. "At some point I did and then there was a point I didn't want to be one," Thomas answered. "Really why?" Bingo asked, pointing her flashlight at her brother's face.
That question made Thomas get a little uncomfortable. "Um… well… I should probably get back to these paintings guys," Thomas said, trying to get up. Bluey then realized the meaning behind her brother dodging the question. "Do you not want to be our brother?" Bluey asked, getting defensive. "No I do! it's the best that's ever happened to me," Thomas said while Bingo was still flashing the light in his face. "Bingo could you-" Thomas said, trying to see what he was doing. "Then why at some point did you not want to be a brother?" Bluey demanded. "It was during the time I was mad at dad," Thomas answered nervously. "Oh," Bluey said looking down. "Guys it's really something I don't want to talk about anymore I've moved on from that and I'm focusing on now here with you two," Thomas said looking at both of his sisters. "Do you wish you were an only child again?" Bluey asked. "No! I love you two more than anything," Thomas said, hugging both Bluey and Bingo.
"Aww," Snickers said, wagging his tail, moved by that scene. "But Snickers could be a better little brother to me than you too," Thomas joked. "Hey!" Bluey and Bingo said. "I'm joking!" Thomas said, lifting both his sisters in the air. "Snickers! It's time to go home honey," snickers mum said from inside. "Okay mum! Great interview guys!" Snickers said before leaving the garage. "Bye Snickers!" the three siblings said. "Alright get out of here I have to finish these for Uncle Rad" Thomas said, putting down his sisters. "Aww, but the interview was fun," Bluey said looking at Thomas. "Well you can still ask me stuff while I continue this," Thomas said while grabbing his brush and palette to continue painting. "Okay!" Bluey said, wagging her tail. "You ask something, Bingo," Bluey said looking at her sister. "Okay Um… who's your favorite sister?" Bingo asked. "Ooh good one!" Bluey said, wagging her tail.
Favorite sister huh?" Thomas said while painting. "Yeah! It's me isn't it?" Bluey asked proudly. "Nope," Thomas answered. "Yay it's me" Bingo said, wagging her tail. "Wrong," Thomas answered again. "What?!" They both said. "How come neither of us is your favorite sister?" Bingo asked. "Yeah, it's not like you have another sister… right?" Bluey asked. "You're both my favorite, without one or the other there's no point," Thomas said with a smile. "Really?" Bluey asked. "Yeah, really, how can I possibly choose between any of you, I love you in the same way," Thomas replied. There was a pause and then Thomas looked at the time. "Look at the time, I need to hurry and finish this before I have to go study," he said. "Can we also paint, Thomas?" Bingo asked. "Well… I am still trying to figure out what to paint for uncle Rad and aunt Frisky's wedding… Nothing I seem to paint seems to be… good enough… and I don't have much canvas left… But… I do have these sketch books," Thomas replied, showing two sketch books and giving them to his sisters. "Hurray!" the two sisters exclaimed happily.
The two girls lay down on the floor to draw on the sketchbooks their brother gave them, while he continued to paint something. However, the more he tried to find the best idea for a painting that he could give to his uncle and soon-to-be wife for their wedding was to find. Even if what he was painting was good, it simply didn't seem right for Thomas. Eventually, he came to his second-to-last canvas. He was on the middle of his painting, when he felt reaching a block. Frustrated, he left out a grunt, putting down his brush, and started heading towards the exit of the garage, while grabbing a cricket ball and bat. "Big brother, where are you going?" Bluey asked. "Just outside to bat a little bit, I'll come back right away," Thomas replied. After he was gone, Bluey, moved by curiosity, headed towards her brother's painting and admired it. To her, it looked like he was trying to do a painting of their uncle Rad and Frisky.
She then noticed on a spot that Thomas had forgotten to pain. An idea came to Bluey in a way that could have her be Thomas' favorite sister. She could just help him with his painting. Picking up the brush Thomas was using, Bluey started to fill the blanc space Thomas had left. Bingo noticed that. "Hey, you can't do that, Bluey, that's Thomas' painting," she protested, as she got up and approached her older sister. "I'm just helping him a bit, that way he is going to see how much of a great sister I am," Bluey said, as she continued to paint . "You just want to be his favorite sister and that's not fair!" Bingo exclaimed. "You're just mad because you didn't think of this," Bluey replied. "But I know what I have to do, prevent you from ruining Thomas' painting" Bingo replied. And she grabbed the brush Bluey was using and tried to take it from her, but the older sister pulled it back. "Bingo, let go!" she ordered. "No! I won't let you ruin Thomas' work!" Bingo replied. "I'm not going to ruin it, I'm helping him!" Bluey replied back. It was then that, with all that fighting, the sisters ended up hitting some painting that was resting at the easel, dropping it on the painting. Both Bluey and Bingo got shocked by that. "Look what you did!" both shouted to each other.
Meanwhile, Thomas had gone to the backyard, where he started batting the cricket ball and hitting on the fence, as a way to vent his frustration. Chilli, who came out to the backyard, saw her son like that and got a little worried. "Thomas, are you okay, sweetie?" she asked. After batting one more time, he sighed. "I don't know, mom… I think I'm losing my inspiration for painting," he confessed. Chilli went to sit on the verandah and made a gesture for Thomas to sit beside her. Thomas did that. "Tell me, why do you think that?" Chilli asked.
"It's just… I can't do the right painting for uncle Rad's wedding, it's like… no matter what I paint… it's not the one," Thomas told. "Thomas… haven't you gone through this already? I thought the birthday cake incident has taught you that you don't need to make the perfect gift," Chilli commented. "Yeah, but… I am uncle Rad's best dog, I can't disappoint him, a birthday is every year, but a wedding… Hopefully, he won't have another," Thomas said. Chilli made a tender smile. "You don't need to worry about anything, you are a great artist and I am sure you'll get the inspiration you need for your painting," Chilli told Thomas, while passing her hand by his cheek. "Are you sure?" he asked. Chilli nodded, what caused Thomas to express a smile and then hug her. "Thanks, mom, that's exactly what I needed to hear," he said, as Chilli hugged him back.
At the garage, the girls were a little nervous about what they have done. "What do we do?! Thomas is going to be mad at us!" Bingo exclaimed. "This is your fault, Bingo, you shouldn't have tried to take the brush from me!" Bluey told. "But you shouldn't be meddling with Thomas' painting!" Bingo replied back. "Okay, okay, okay, let's stop arguing, we need to fix this," Bluey said. Taking the brush, she started to color over the ruined part of the painting, but because the paint was still fresh, the colors just mixed up, creating a much bigger mess. "Oh no, I'm making it worse!" Bluey exclaimed.
"Let me try," Bingo said. She tried her best to fix the painting, but she also made the mess spread. "Oh, oh…" she said. "What do we do now? Thomas is going to see this and is going to get mad at us and we will stop seeing us as great sisters," Bluey said. "But… we were not great sisters… we messed up Thomas' painting for uncle Rad and Frisky," Bingo said, sadly. "Yeah, you're right, Bingo… and I am the worst sister… I was the one to start it," Bluey said, also sadly. "No, you're not, you only did that because you wanted to help Thomas, you're a great sister!" Bingo replied. "Oh, thank you, Bingo, you're also a great sister," Bluey told. And the two sisters then hugged each other.
They then heard steps approaching the door of the garage and they knew who that was. The door opened and Thomas entered, noticing his sisters in front of his canvas. "So, already tired of the sketchbooks?" Thomas asked. He then noticed the look on his sisters, one that he recognized very well. "Okay, what did you do? I know when you're up to something or you did something you shouldn't," he said. The two girls traded a look. "Thomas, we're sorry, we were just trying to help you with your painting, but…" Bluey started. "We ended up… making a big mess," Bingo finished. They then moved aside, revealing the ruined painting, what caused Thomas to adopt a shocked look. "My painting…" he said, while approaching. "We're so sorry, Thomas! It was an accident!" Bluey said. "Yeah, we didn't mean to ruin your painting," Bingo replied. But Thomas continued to look to the painting with the same expression. "Thomas… are you mad at us?" Bluey asked. "This is…" Thomas started, as the girls feared what he was about to say. "…exactly what I was looking for!" he exclaimed, expressing a big smile.
"I know, it's really… Wait, WHAT?!" Bluey started, with the last word being shouted along with Bingo. "I was so stuck about what to paint! But this… is what I wanted all along, I mean, not the painting, but the style, that is it!" Thomas said. "So… you're not mad?" Bingo asked. "Mad? Why would I be mad?" Thomas asked, confused. "Because we messed up your painting you would give to uncle Rad and Frisky," Bluey said. "Girls… I could never get mad at you two, I mean, maybe at first, but that would never last more than a moment, I love you two… even if you mess up my biggest masterpiece," Thomas said, sitting down along with his sisters, both beside him. "Really?" the girls asked. Thomas nodded. "That's what being a big brother is all about, to love his little sisters despite their little upsies," Thomas replied. "Even if… we mess it because we were arguing about who was the better sister for you?" Bluey asked. "Despite that as well, I already told you I don't have a favorite sister and I meant every word," Thomas said, hugging his sisters who hugged him back.
"Besides, thanks to you, I finally know what kind of painting I want to do, it needs to be one that not only celebrates uncle Rad and Frisky's wedding, but one that also officially welcomes her to the Heeler family, and we all know our family is messy, chaotic, but still full of love, and that's what my painting is going to represent… with a little help from my two favorite sisters… and maybe with a little extra help from our favorite little cousins, what do you say?" Thomas asked. "Yeah!" Bluey and Bingo shouted.
Thomas nodded and then went and called his uncle and asked for his cousins to come over and help finish the project. Stripe agreed and within the hour had brought them over with Trixie. Muffin and Socks went into the Garage and found their cousins waiting for them. "What are we doing again?" Muffin asked as Thomas put an apron on her. "We're making some art for Uncle Rad," Thomas said, now getting the paint together. "Yay! Art!" Socks cheered.
Thomas then puts aprons on his sisters and Socks and then they were ready to start. "Alright just make a bunch of colors and have fun," Thomas said with a smile as he crossed his arms. "That's it?" Bluey asked, looking at her brother. "Yep, and I'll do the rest once you're all done," Thomas said sitting down. "Yay colors!" Socks said as she already had started. "See Socks gets it," Thomas said with a chuckle. Bluey and Bingo smiled at each other and then started painting along with Muffin behind them.
The adults were inside talking until the heard Bandit come into the house. "Bandit is that you?" Chilli asked from upstairs. "Yeah, Babe I'm home," Bandit said, putting his backpack down. Bandit then went upstairs and found his wife, his brother and sister in law. "Hey mates, what brings you here?" Bandit asked as he gave a kiss to Chilli on her cheek. "Thomas actually," Stripe said looking at his brother. "Really? I wonder why," Bandit said sitting down at the counter. "Something about an art project," Trixie answered looking at Bandit. "Oh! The art project for Rad," Bandit said now realizing what art project it was. "Do you two want to stay for dinner?" Chilli asked, looking at Stripe and Trixie.
Stripe and Trixie then looked at each other and then looked at Chilli. "Sure if you don't mind," Stripe said. "Mate we're all family here of course we don't mind," Bandit said with a smile. Stripe smiled at his brother and then cuddled his wife. "Alright I'll order some pizzas," Chilli said as she then got into her phone to order. Meanwhile the kids were just painting away and making new colors and really just making anything they could. "How is this big brother?" Bingo asked, looking at brother. Thomas looked at it and smiled. "Perfect!" Thomas said, wagging his tail. "But we're just mixing colors together and making a mess really," Bluey said. "You'll see, once I put the finishing touches," Thomas said again, crossing his arms.
After a while all the girls were done doing what they were doing and wanted to clean up. "Are you guys done?" Thomas asked, looking at his sisters and cousins. "Yeah I think so," Bluey said as Thomas helped take off her apron. "Kids dinner is here," Bandit said, peeking his head into the garage. "Okay dad!" Bluey and Bingo said. The kids then ran back into the house house while Thomas added some things to the painting before letting it dry. Bandit then came into the garage and looked at the art project that his kids and nieces did. "Hey mate! This looks… great!" Bandit said, trying to figure out what the art piece was trying to look like. "It's not finished just yet dad, I have to let it dry and then finish it," Thomas said, wiping the paint from his face. "Well mate, I think it'll be great once it's finished;" Bandit said, putting his arm around his son's shoulder.
"Yeah it will be," Thomas said looking at the project. "Your mum would be so proud of you," Bandit said softly. "Thanks dad," Thomas said looking at his dad. "Come on son, a pepperoni and black olives pizza is calling your name," Bandit said, patting his son on the back. Thomas chuckled and went inside the house with dad and joined everyone for dinner. Later that night right when the girls had just fallen asleep. Thomas couldn't sleep and went to the garage and started to finish his art project for his uncle and soon to be aunt.
A few days later…
"Have you seen it yet?" Rad asked his brother while looking at him. "Nope he wouldn't show me or anyone for that matter," Bandit said looking at his older brother. "I hope I didn't put too much pressure on him," Rad said, rubbing the back of his neck. "He did have a little trouble with the pressure but I think he overcame that after we talked," Chilli said softly as Bandit cuddled his wife. "Come on mate! We want to see this masterpiece!" Stripe called to his nephew with a smile. "Alright everyone I'm coming," Thomas said as he came outside with the art piece covered with a sheet. "It is big," Frisky said to Rad. "It is," Rad replied to Frisky. Thomas placed it down in front of his family and was about to pull the sheet off. "Alright here we are," Thomas said as he then pulled the sheet off. Everyone gasped with their eyes wide seeing the art piece that the kids had done.
The art piece was an outline of Rad and Frisky with a bunch of Vibrant colors on the inside of them with the quote "Made With Love" Graffitied on the side of it. "Mate…" Rad said standing up shocked. "Oh my.." Frisky also said while standing up. They got up closer and looked at it. Thomas looked at the art piece and then looked back at his uncle and Frisky. "This… this…" Rad trying to get the words to speak. "Amazing!" Frisky finally said before grabbing Thomas for a huge hug. Thomas was surprised by Frisky's grip and then hugged her back. Rad had teared up and then grabbed his nephew and hugged him tightly. "Thank you mate," Rad said softly while hugging his nephew.
"Well, I can't take all the credit I had help from my favorite sisters and favorite cousins," Thomas said looking at the girls who then blushed and acted a little shy now giving the credit they deserved. The family then celebrated the art piece with a barbecue and continued to admire the piece. Thomas was standing next to it with arms crossed looking at it. "You did mate," Bandit said while putting his arm around his son's shoulder. "Do you think mom would have liked it?" Thomas asked, still looking at the art piece. "Your mum would have loved it mate," Bandit said softly. Thomas rested his head on his dad's shoulder and smiled. "I love you dad," Thomas said softly. "I love you too mate," Bandit said, rubbing his son's shoulder. "Foods ready!" Rad shouted to the family. "Alright mate, let's get some food," Bandit said, patting his son on the back. Thomas nodded and then join his family for the barbecue.
