Sam and Pendrick were still waiting for Higgins and Crabtree to come back. Pendrick went over everything he had found out with the local paper, which wasn't much. Sam didn't like Myers but he was quite important to this case and she could do with any help she could get right now. Pendrick was helpful but Myers with the information about what he had so far might be more helpful.

"The local paper sounds helpful then!" Sam smirked once Pendrick finished.

"I thought Miss Cherry might help out but apparently not! Crabtree will have found something though." Pendrick said.

"I hope you're right." Sam sighed back.

Pendrick shrugged as footsteps came from outside. Sam sat up straight to see if it was Crabtree or Higgins. Pendrick was ready to make sure if he needed to fight if anyone dangerous came along.

"Who is it?" Pendrick asked looking out of the window.

Sam shushed him as she continued to look. Watts' face appeared around the corner. Sam was a bit confused as to why Watts was here but was quite happy to see him.

"It's Watts. You can sit back down again." Sam chuckled as she saw Pendrick waiting by the door.

"Are you sure? Just don't want to take down our guard just in case we get attacked."

"Oh my gosh! Just let him in."

Pendrick made a face but opened the door for Watts to come in. Watts looked around the streets and then came in. Sam smiled as he came in.

"What's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost." Sam smirked as Watts wiped his brow.

"It's nothing." Watts waved his hand.

"How come you're here? I thought the case came first." Pendrick said, closing the door carefully.

"It did but I got a lead and left it to someone I can trust. They just have to wrap it up and then it'll be solved." Watts looked Pendrick up and down wondering why he was here.

Sam could see the looks Watts was giving Pendrick. She could trust Pendrick, why couldn't everyone else?!

"You can trust him. He's been helping us." Sam finally said to Watts.

"Heping? I would hate to be you if the inspector found out he was here." Watts threw up his hands.

"Don't listen to him." Sam whispered to Pendrick.

Pendrick sighed. He had heard all of this already from everyone in this station. Higgins and Crabtree hadn't said too much about it but he could tell they were a little anxious about him being there. He hadn't even started on Detective Murdoch. Murdoch seemed to be a friend but anytime he got involved with a case he didn't want him around. Luckily Sam felt different.

"So where are we so far on the case? Unless you want me to focus on something else and let you continue." Watts saw a glimmer on Sam's face.

Sam chewed this over for a few moments. She liked that Watts was back but she had done pretty well so far with the case without him. Maybe this was the time to solve the case by herself.

"I would love your help but…" Sam started to say.

"You'd like to solve it yourself?" Watts finished her sentence.

"Something like that. I mean if you could give us some help along the way then that would be fine." Sam shrugged.

"You got it." Watts nodded heading back to his desk to look over the cases he had been left when he was away.

"Now we just need Higgins and Crabtree." Pendrick looked back at the blackboard.

Crabtree and Higgins were making their way out of the warehouse. It seemed to go on forever! A lot longer than when they had first come in. Crabtree led the way with Higgins just a few steps behind looking out for him.

"Are we there yet?" Higgins moaned, as he massaged his feet.

"Stop moaning Henry! We'll get out when…" Crabtree stopped in his tracks when he heard other voices apart from their own.

Higgins walked into the back of Crabtree and nearly sent him flying. Crabtree helped him up and put a finger to his lips as he listened closer to who was talking. It sounded like two voices mainly with other voices chiming in when needed.

"Who are they?" Higgins said so quietly that he was almost miming.

"We need to get out of here. If that gang gets any closer, I wouldn't like to get on their bad side." Crabtree whispered back.

Suddenly one voice sounded over the others. Crabtree froze and stared in that direction. Higgins' mouth dropped open in response. They looked at each other. This wasn't good.

Murdoch was staring out of the hospital room window. He was now up and about but was still under watch since his last surgery. Julia had been popping in when she could but since she was so busy, it was now few and far between. He didn't want to call the inspector as Margaret would be having very strong words with him when she got back. In other words, he was alone.

The brick was still clouding his mind. He didn't want to stop Sam solving the case especially as she seemed so interested in solving it herself. He sighed out and the breath appeared on the window. The builders had come back in and repeated the window at least so he wasn't sleeping in the cold anymore.

"Penny for your thoughts?" A voice came from the door.

Murdoch turned around. Miss Cherry stood there looking in. Normally she had some snarky remark when they met but this time she sounded calm and kind.

"Not if they're going to be posted in the paper." Murdoch joked getting back into the bed.

"I'm not always looking for things to put in the paper and this is one of those times." Miss Cherry took the stool over to the bed.

"I don't believe you. Sorry." Murdoch shook his head.

"I thought I would come in and see how you were. All of our readers are worrying about Detective Murdoch." Miss Cherry tried to seem sweet.

Murdoch thought about this. Maybe she was right. The town, by the sounds of the paper, was worried as most of the constabulary was now missing. Watts in another state, Brackenreid on holiday and himself in hospital, they might not feel so safe.

"I'm sure Sam can put their minds at ease." Murdoch spoke up for his daughter.

"I had a look at their work yesterday. I don't think that trust is going to be earned just yet." Miss Cherry smirked.

Murdoch huffed when she said this.

"What?" Miss Cherry chuckled.

"Get out. Unless you want me to get security to throw you out." Murdoch threatened.

"Keep your hair on! I'm going." Miss Cherry left as Julia appeared in her place.

Julia stared as Miss Cherry left. She was quite surprised Murdoch had even let her in. they didn't get on whatsoever and now was not the time to be talking to the press.

"What was she doing here?" Julia asked.

"Causing trouble as per usual!" Murdoch tutted, as Julia kissed him on the forehead.

"I heard Watts is back in town. Someone saw him getting off a train at the station." Julia rubbed Murdoch's hand.

"Really?"

"Apparently. Seems like Sam might have some help after all."

Murdoch didn't know how to feel about Watts coming back. I mean he was glad he was back in town but Sam and Watts didn't seem to get on very well these days. True ever since Sam started at the station, Watts seemed to have something against her even though they were on the same team.

Miss Cherry was on her way back to her office. After the whole mini fight with the detective, she needed to be alone with her thoughts.

"Miss Cherry."

Too soon! Miss Cherry sighed as she saw Miss James behind her. Neither of them liked bumping into each other.

"Miss James. Aren't you needed back at the morgue?" Miss Cherry tried to get out of the conversation.

"Aren't you needed back at the paper?" Miss James fought back.

"Touche. I just went to see your detective Murdoch. Seems as though we don't get along." Miss Cherry changed the subject.

"I'm not surprised!"

"What's he like to work with? Maybe I you can change my mind about him."

"Don't even think about it!"

"What?!"

"You'll write something bad about him. I know you better than you think I do."

Miss James turned back to the morgue. Miss Cherry really wanted to fight longer with her but let her go as she had more important things to do than stand around fighting all day.

000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

Sam and Pendrick stood around the blackboard for the hundredth time that day. Watts watched on from the sidelines as Sam had told him to. Pendrick was a little bit unnerved by Watts watching them so closely but let it slide so that Sam didn't think he was being picky.

"So the gang is in one of these warehouses but why? Why would they need one of them?" Sam thought over.

"It's a good hideout. No one would go looking in there if they don't have to." Pendrick said.

"Apart from us. Just need to figure out which one. Where is Crabtree and Higgins?!" Sam groaned.

Sam liked having Pendrick around but the information Crabtree and Higgins had would prove invaluable. Suddenly she saw something in the corner of the board.

"Wait. What about that one?" Sam pointed out the photo.

Pendrick had a closer look. People were going out of one of the warehouses that they had pinpointed. It must be them!

"Let's go and check it out. Maybe we'll see our wayward constables there." Pendrick picked up his coat and was already to go.

"Good idea. I'll catch you up." Watts said.

Sam nodded as she followed Pendrick. She just hoped Crabtree and Higgins hadn't run into any trouble while they were away.
