Chapter 55: First Car
"I did it!" Thomas said flashing his new drivers license. "Great job mate, I knew you could do it!" Bandit cheered for his son. "Only took me two tries," Thomas said looking at his license. "I'm glad we kept practicing," Bandit said with a smile. "Can I drive us home?" Thomas asked, looking at his father. "Hmm I guess you can mate, your uncle Rad drove us home once," Bandit said, getting in the passenger side of his car. Thomas climbed in the driver side, buckled up and started the car. "You do know the way home right mate?" Bandit asked teasing. Thomas rolled his eyes. "Yeah, dad I know," Thomas said, making sure of his surroundings and then started to drive them home.
"Where are they?" Bluey said, looking out the window for her brother and father. "Still waiting for dad and brother huh?" Chilli asked, passing her daughter in the front room of the house. "Yeah… Do you think Thomas passed this time?" Bluey asked, wagging her tail. "I think he could have this time," Chilli said, picking up a basket of clothes. "I hope so," Bluey said, still looking out the window. "I hope they get here soon. I still have to pick up Bingo from Lila's," Chilli said, concerned for her husband and son's return. "They're home!" Bluey cheered. "Oh good," Chilli said, going outside with Bluey.
Chilli smiled seeing that Thomas was in the drivers side knowing that he indeed passed his drivers test. "Looks like we have a new driver in the house," Chilli said as Thomas parked the car. "Only took me two tries!" Thomas said getting out of the car. "Now you can take me and Bingo everywhere!" Bluey cheered. "That's if mom and dad let me use the car," Thomas said as Bandit got out of the car. "Just wait until you get your own car mate, it's a new experience," Bandit said with a smile. "When will that happen?" Bluey asked a little hyper from seeing her brother being able to drive. "Not for a while, let's just use the family car for now," Bandit said, placing his arm around his son's shoulder. "My little boy is able to drive. I'm so touched!" Bandit said being a little dramatic. "Dad!" Thomas said embarrassed.
"Let's get a picture," Chilli said as she got her phone out. "Come on blue, get in the picture," Thomas said as he held out his arms for his sister. Bluey nodded and jumped into her brother's arms and then Chilli took the picture of her husband, son and daughter together in front of the family car. "Great! I'll post this congratulations to my son for getting his license," Chilli said while making the post. "Oh! I have to pick up Bingo," Chilli said, rushing to get her purse and heading out. "Can I go with you mum?" Bluey asked. "Sure! I could use the company," Chilli said as she got into the car. "Hooray!" Bluey said as she went to her car seat and got in it. After Chilli and Bluey left to go get Bingo. Bandit and Thomas went inside as Thomas called all three of his uncles letting them know he had gotten his license.
Rad and Stripe were both proud of their nephew for getting his license and congratulated him. After talking to his uncles on his dad's side it was time to call uncle Prince. "Hey uncle Prince, I just got my license today," Thomas said on the phone. "Really? Great job punk!" Prince said with a smile. "Where are you? It sounds kinda loud," Thomas said. "At a party in Toluca with Kylie but hey I want to see you and your sisters," Prince said as he moved away from the party to hear his nephew better. "Great! When are you coming?" Thomas asked. "I'll see you in a few weeks and I'll buy you something," Prince said with a smirk. "Uncle Prince you don't have to get me anything, seeing you is a great gift," Thomas said with a smile. "Nonsense! You're my favorite nephew of course I have to get you something, I'll get your sister's something too so don't worry," Prince said while taking a drink of his soda.
"If you say so uncle Prince," Thomas said with a chuckle. "Alright punk, tell your dad I said hi," Prince said with a smile. "Will do, I love you uncle Prince see you then," Thomas said "I love you too and hey! Tell you dad to lose the puppy fat and maybe I'll play real football with him," Prince said with a laugh. Thomas rolled his eyes and said his final goodbyes to his uncle and then hung up. "Was that your uncle Prince mate?" Bandit asked while washing some dishes in the kitchen. "Yeah he said hi and he'll come over in a few weeks," Thomas said while starting to help his dad in the kitchen. "Oh good it's been awhile since we made up," Bandit said was putting the dishes away. "He also said lose the puppy fat and he'll play real football with you," Thomas added. Bandit rolled his eyes knowing this was the same Prince yet he had a change of heart. "Always with the puppy fat I didn't even have puppy fat when I was younger," Bandit mumbled to himself. Thomas chuckled while helping his dad finish with the dishes.
(A few weeks later…)
The family was outside in the backyard playing some games until they heard a car horn out in the front. "Oh that must be Prince," Chilli said, getting up from the ground. "I'm a little nervous to see him," Bandit said. "Don't worry dad it's just… well Uncle Prince," Thomas said. "That's what I'm worried about," Bandit said. "I hope he's nicer since we last saw him," Bingo said as the whole family. "Uncle Rad really turned him around mate, I'm sure he's better," Bandit said, still nervous. The family went to the front and were surprised to see a baby blue Ford mustang mach e with red ribbon on it with two electric cars for kids next to it. The family was shocked with their jaws dropped.
"Surprise!" Prince said coming from behind the new car. "No you didn't!" Thomas said, walking forward to the car. "M-mate," Bandit said speechless. "Blue was one of your mom's favorite colors and that's not the best part. It's got heated front and back seats and Bose speakers built in and finally a heated steering wheel," Prince said leaning against the car while crossing his arms. "And of course to my nieces I got them those two electric cars," Prince said with a smile. "Do we get cars like Muffin?!" Bluey and Bingo shouted with excitement.
"I thought you liked your old car?" Chilli said nervously. "But those are brand new!" Bluey pointed out with her eyes wide looking at the new toy. "So this is my car?" Thomas asked, still looking at the new car. "Yep! Here you go!" Prince said as he threw the car keys to Thomas. "Hold on!" Bandit shouted, catching the car keys. "Dad?" Thomas said, confused. "Yeah dad what gives?" Prince asked Sarcastically. "Prince this is all way too much mate, that car probably cost more than the down payment I paid for the family car," Bandit said pointing to the family car. Prince looked at the family car and chuckled. "It cost more than that thing out of the show room," Prince said with a laugh. "It's not funny mate, he can't have the car I'm sorry," Bandit said putting his foot down. "Dad!" Thomas cried out looking at his father. "Can we still have the Electric toy cars?" Bluey asked, "Bluey!" Chilli said, looking down at her daughter.
"No! No one gets anything!" Bandit said defensive. "But dad!" Thomas said, looking at his dad. "I'm sorry mate this is not how it works and your mother wouldn't want this either," Bandit said, putting his foot down. "How would you know what Emily would want?" Prince said, crossing his arms. "Kids, let's give your dad and Uncle some space," Chilli said, taking Bluey and Bingo into the house. "Aww," the girls said while walking into the house. "Dad, that's not fair!" Thomas said walking forward to be by his uncle's side. "Mate please, I'm your dad! And I wanted to give you your first car," Bandit said looking at his son. Thomas opened his mouth to say something but Prince beat him to it. "Don't change the subject about Emily Bandit," Prince said with a light growl.
"Mate I'm sorry I just… we had a picture in our minds that I would get him his first car," Bandit explained looking down. Thomas looked at his dad and back at his uncle. Prince took a deep breath and then looked down. "You're right and I'm sorry;" Prince said, still looking down. Thomas was surprised by his uncle being more calm. "I'll take them back," Prince said as he walked up to Bandit and took the keys back. "But Uncle Prince," Thomas said looking at his uncle. Just as Prince was about to walk past his nephew he looked at him and smiled with his golden tooth. "They'll be other cars, kid, I promise," Prince said as he got into the car. "At least keep the toy cars," Prince said, rolling down the car window.
Bandit sighed and nodded. Prince nodded and then started the car and then drove off. Thomas looked down a little angry and sad. "Mate?" Bandit asked, looking at his son. "I'm going to take a walk," Thomas said, not looking at his dad. "Come on mate don't be like that," Bandit said, taking a step forward to his son. "Please dad I need some," Thomas said as he started walking down the street. Bandit looked down with a sad look on his face and then went inside the house. "Where's Thomas?" Chilli asked as her husband came into the house. "Taking a walk and I think he's upset with me," Bandit said, looking down with his tail between his legs. "Well, that was a pretty nice car you passed up on," Chilli said, crossing her arms.
"Yeah, I know but I… I wanted to get him his first car," Bandit said, still looking down with a sad look on his face. "I know, but Prince was trying to help," Chilli said softly. "A little too much help," Bandit said, rubbing the back of his neck. "Can we play with the toy cars?" Bingo asked, looking up at her parents. "You kept those?" Chilli asked, looking at her husband. "Well, they are toys after all," Bandit said with a chuckle. "Then what was the point of passing on the real car?" Chilli asked, giving her husband a sly look. "It's a dad's duty to give his son a car," Bandit said with confidence. "Really I thought it was both parents' job to give our child a car?" Chilli asked Raising an eyebrow. "I-er he Prince!" Bandit said, trying to get the words out. "What's what I thought, Bandit Heeler," Chilli said, shaking her head. "Oh biscuits," Bandit said in defeat.
"Mum, can we drive the cars?" Bluey asked, wagging her tail. "Sure sweetie, after your father apologizes to your uncle Prince for trying to help," Chilli said with a smirk. "What?" Bandit asked surprised. "Yep, have fun trying to find him," Chilli said going into the next room. "Aww," The girls said, looking down. Bandit mumbled under his breath before trying to call Prince. Meanwhile Thomas was walking down the street until he heard a car horn and saw his uncle Prince with the new car. "Uncle Prince?" Thomas said, looking at his uncle. "Get in punk we're going for a ride," Prince said with a smile. Thomas smiled, wagging his tail as he got into the car with his uncle. "Where are you going?" Thomas asked while putting on his seat belt. "You'll see," Prince said with a sly smile as he then drove off.
Prince saw his phone going off and seeing that it was bandit and decided to skip the calls from him. "Shouldn't you talk to my dad?" Thomas asked, looking at his uncle. "Not at the moment I'm not and we're going to have some fun," Prince said with a smile. "It sucks I can't keep the car," Thomas said looking down. "Hey, I picked you up for a reason kid and it has to do about the car," Prince said while going on the freeway. "Really? What are we going to do?" Thomas asked looking up and at his uncle. "You'll see," Prince said again with a smile. It wasn't long until they came to a raceway. "What are we doing here?" Thomas asked, looking at the raceway. "Your going to drive your new car for a bit," Prince said, putting the car in park and getting out.
"Really?" Thomas asked as got out of car and traded spots with his uncle. Again Prince was getting a call from Bandit and Prince once again pressed skip call. "Shouldn't you answer my dad soon?" Thomas asked, looking at his uncle as he buckled. "Eventually, now drive! Show how fast you can go!" Prince shouted. Thomas chuckled as he turned up the music and pressed the pedal to go fast on the track. "C'mon mate," Bandit said, still trying to get in touch with Prince. "Maybe Thomas will answer," Bandit said to himself as he tried to call his son. Unfortunately there was no answer.
"Biscuits!" Bandit shouted frustrated. Suddenly a ball hit the hood of the family jeep, scaring him. "Sorry dad!" Bluey said getting the ball. "It's okay mate!" Bandit said looking at his daughter getting the ball. "I know I shouldn't but let's see where he's at," Bandit said, now turning on the tracker for his son's phone. "Doomben racecourse?" Bandit said as he started the jeep and started to drive there. "What could he be doing out there? And how did he get out there… unless… Prince!" Bandit shouted as he started to speed away.
Thomas having a good time in the new car while being on the race track and being able to go fast. After a little bit of going fast in the car he pulled over to the side and parked the car. "Thanks uncle Prince I needed this," Thomas said with a smile. "You welcome punk I figure you should just be able to drink this car at least once," Prince said with a smile. "Uh oh," Thomas said, seeing his dad's jeep pulling up next to them. Bandit gets out of the jeep looking furious. "Really mate?!" Bandit shouted. Thomas turned off the car and got out of it. Prince also got out of the car and faced Bandit. "Dad," Thomas said about to explain himself. "Jeep! Now!" Bandit shouted. Thomas sighed and went to the passenger side of the jeep.
Bandit then looked at Prince. "Do you enjoy making me the bad guy?!" Bandit shouted looking at Prince. "Well…" Prince said being sarcastic. "Prince!" Bandit said being serious. "No! I wanted the kid to at least drive the damn thing before you told me to just take it back!" Prince shot back. Bandit rubbed in between his eyes and sighed. "Chilli and I talked-" Bandit started to say until Prince Interrupted. "Wow you actually talked to your wife for once," Prince said with a fake shocked look on his face. Bandit sighed in frustration trying not to go off on his brother in law. "Mate please let's just talk like adults," Bandit said looking at Prince. Prince opened his mouth to be smart against his brother in law and actually hought for a moment of what he should say.
"Alright, let's talk," Prince said as he crossed his arms. Bandit nodded and then explained everything he and Chilli talked about just before it started to rain. Thomas sat in the jeep and watched his dad and uncle talk just before Bandit came back to the jeep. Bandit got on the driver's side and then looked at his son. "I'm sorry dad I just… I just wanted to drive the car," Thomas said looking down. Bandit looked at his son and placed his hand on his son's shoulders. "I know son, that's why I told Prince you can have the car," Bandit said with a soft smile. "What?!" Thomas said, perking up. "But! That car is your responsibility mate," Bandit said, taking his hand back. "I promise dad I'll take care of it," Thomas said happily.
"Alright mate, can you find you way home after taking your uncle to the airport?" Bandit asked. "Of course I can!" Thomas said excitedly. Bandit smiled and gave his son a nod to let him to go the car. Thomas hugged his dad and then got out of the jeep and ran over to his car. Bandit watched his son get into his car and started on his way to head home. Thomas got into the driver's side of his car and looked at Prince. "How did you get my dad to let me keep the car?" Thomas asked,
looking at his uncle. "Well you know with good charm and good looks," Prince jokes. "Uncle Prince," Thomas said, giving him a serious look. "Alright, Alright I'm adding you to my insurance and my gas card so that way you can get gas on me," Prince explained. "Really? That's great uncle Prince thank you," Thomas said with a smile. "Your welcome punk, now I have a flight back to New York in an hour so I need to get back but I will visit as much as I can," Prince said looking at his nephew. Thomas nodded as he started the car and drove to the airport.
Bandit walked into the house and shook off the rainwater from his fur. "How did it go? Were you able to find Prince?" Chilli asked, looking at her husband. "I did and we talked for maybe the first time ever," Bandit said, rubbing the back of his neck. "And?" Chilli asked, closing her book. "Our son now has a car," Bandit said with a soft smile. "Hooray!" The girls shouted from upstairs looking down at their parents. "Hey! How long have you two been staying there?" Bandit asked, looking up at his daughters. "The whole time;" Bluey said, now standing up from the stairs. Bandit smiled and shook his head. "Come here," Bandit said Motioning to his daughters to come to him. The girls then came down the stairs and hugged their father. "Does this mean we can keep the toy cars now?" Bluey asked while hugging her dad. "Yeah, I guess so," Bandit said, giving in. "Hooray!" The girls said. Chilli laughed as she watched her family be happy.
Meanwhile Thomas drops off his uncle at the airport. "You take care okay?" Prince said getting out of the car. Thomas then gets out of the car and helps his uncle with his bags. Thomas then hugged his uncle tightly. "Alright Em- I mean… I'm sorry kid," Prince said, hugging his nephew back. Thomas looked at his uncle with some tears in his eyes. "You remind me of your mom everyday kid," Prince said, placing his hands on Thomas's shoulder. Thomas smiled and then hugged him one more time. "I'll be around more I promise kid," Prince said while hugging him. The uncle and nephew then broke the hug and then went their separate ways. Thomas got into his car and then drove home for dinner.
