A/N: This chapter is a bit slower than the pace of my other chapters.
The day was oddly strange for Naruto. Usually, he would wake up and get ready for the day before going into the kitchen to see Hanabi cooking breakfast for them, but strangely, that wasn't the case today. When he woke up and got ready, Hanabi wasn't in the kitchen cooking. It's not like she was obligated to do so, but it had become such a routine event in the morning that Naruto felt weird without it. He went to go check on her to see if she was feeling well, and she looked okay, she was just sleeping in. Naruto just concluded that she didn't feel up to it today, which was fine.
Nonetheless, he had plans for today so he decided to go fulfill them. The other night, Hinata had asked to treat him to Ramen as an apology for ruining the event that was set up, even though Naruto didn't see it that way. There wasn't a specific time and date that they were going to meet, and it was still about 10:00, Naruto decided that he would go and do something that started to become a habit of his.
Not 1 hour later, he sat on top of his father's head at the Hokage Monument. Something he had started to do was talk to the carved face of his deceased father about the recent events in his life. He supposed that it was a bit calming and often gave him peace of mind.
"Hey, Otou-san. It's me again, and you wouldn't believe what happened recently!" Naruto said. It wasn't his first time talking to the face, and it probably wouldn't be his last.
Naruto proceeded to talk to the face about all the things that had happened in his life recently. Because if there was one thing Naruto was good at, it was talking. He talked about everything from how bought a new house to how he had a girl living with him now. He was glad that he was alone because he'd certainly be embarrassed had anyone heard him talk about how eventful his life had gotten recently.
By the time he was done talking, the time had passed and it was now 12:00. Thinking that the day was going by slower than usual, Naruto tried to do something else to keep himself busy. He tried sparring with Lee, talking to Kurama, heck, he even tried to watch clouds like Shikamaru liked to do. But no matter what he tried to do, only 3 hours had passed. To top it all off, every time he tried to pass the time, he would always end up feeling like something was missing as if he forgot to do something, and it was very confusing for him. It felt familiar yet he just couldn't figure out what it was.
Deciding that enough time had passed, Naruto decided to go and pick up Hinata, the nagging feeling that he forgot about something still there. As he walked there, he decided to try and recall everything he did so far, to see if there could be anything he forgot to do, or if he had plans that he forgot about. Strangely enough, there was nothing. Sighing, Naruto told himself that it was nothing and that he was being foolish.
Hanabi woke up to see the presence of the sun start to become noticeable through the window. She figured it must be somewhere around 9:00 in the morning. She would usually get up around this time and start to cook breakfast for her and Naruto, but she just didn't feel like it today. She didn't feel like doing anything today. Hanabi was in a sour mood for reasons unknown to her, she just felt...grumpy.
She wasn't unused to this mood. Everyone had their own bad days, and today seemed to be one of those days for her. Hanabi took advantage of the fact that she could sleep in if she wanted to, which was something she couldn't do when she lived in the compound. So, Hanabi decided to go back to sleep.
Once she woke up again, it was already 4:00, and her mood felt no different than how it was 6 hours ago. As she got up and headed to the bathroom, she started to think about any reason why she would feel as sour as she did. It didn't take her long to come to a conclusion, and she had no doubt that what she had thought about was the reason why she was so grumpy today.
Naruto's date with Hinata.
Now, ever since Hinata asked Naruto on a date yesterday, Hanabi hadn't felt good about it at all. Her mood had become so sour afterward that as soon as they arrived home, Hanabi changed into her nightwear and headed to sleep, not wanting to think about it any more than she had to. But that plan seemed to backfire since as soon as she woke up, it was all Hanabi was able to think about.
Hanabi wished that Hinata never gathered the courage to ask Naruto on a date, and she hated herself for feeling that way. Why couldn't she be happy for her sister? After all, she had all but watched Hinata admire Naruto when they were kids. If she had known that this would happen, Hanabi probably wouldn't have gotten drunk that night, probably. Well, there was nothing she could do about it now but acknowledge the fact the fact that they were probably on a date right now.
After she was done getting dressed, Hanabi cooked herself some lunch. Surprisingly, it would be her first time trying her own cooking. She expected the food to be amazing based on how much Naruto praised her cooking, but she soon found out that he was only being nice. She chuckled at how sweet and dumb he was to tolerate her cooking so he didn't hurt her feelings.
She was sure that he was on a date with Hinata by now, which had only made her mood gloomy and sour again. Suddenly not wanting to do anything anymore, she did the only thing that seemed appealing to her, going back to sleep.
Arriving at the Hyuuga compound, Naruto waited for the gatekeeper to walk up to him and address him.
"Hello again, Naruto-sama, what is your reason for being here?"
"Me and Hinata-chan are going out for Ramen today, can you go and see if she's ready?"
"Sure, please wait here." The gatekeeper said, and went to fetch Hinata." It didn't take long for Hinata to emerge from the compound. She approached Naruto with a small smile on her face.
"Are you ready to go, Naruto-kun?" Hinata asked, a small blush on her face. She noticed that his mind was somewhere else as it took his mind a few seconds to register her question.
"Huh? Oh, yeah! We should get going." Naruto answered.
The two walked in relative silence. It wasn't awkward silence, it didn't need to be filled, and the two were both fine with the silence as they walked to the Ramen stand. Naruto and Hinata probably had the least amount of conversations with each other in the Konoha 12, mainly due to the fact that Hinata never had enough confidence to talk to Naruto, and because Naruto was always busy with something like that big training trip, bringing back Sasuke, training, and the war. During the few times when he actually had time to spare, that time was usually spent with his teammates, sensei's, or those close to him. Not long after the two had left, they had reached the stand.
As the two placed their orders, Hinata was panicking. She never thought she'd actually end up going on a date with Naruto, so she didn't know what to do or what to talk about once they actually got there. She just decided to improvise, as it seemed to late for her to make any form of plan.
"S-So Naruto-kun, how is your day going so far?" She asked, her stutter making it's way into her voice.
"It's pretty normal, today I sparred with Lee, who is definitely way too energetic. Also, I tried watching clouds like Shikamaru always does, and it is soooo boring." Naruto made a face to show how boring it was. Hinata giggled and continued to listen to Naruto talk about his day.
It seemed that her improvisation was a success, she had gotten Naruto to take his mind off of whatever was troubling him by talking about his day. And if she knew anything, it was that Naruto loved to talk. He talked all the way until their food was done, and once it was done, he promptly dug in.
As they both ate their food, Hinata decided to plan out when she would confess to Naruto. It definitely wouldn't be today, on their first date, he wanted Naruto to get to know her more. Because she knew that the chance of being rejected was more likely if Naruto didn't feel close enough with her.
So she would have to get as close to Naruto as possible before he developed feelings for Hanabi. When Hanabi said that she didn't have feelings for Naruto, Hinata knew that it was a half-truth, meaning she liked the blonde to some extent, and it was only a matter of time until those feelings evolved.
The rest of the date at Ichiraku ended up as average as any date would be, and Hinata found herself satisfied. Though she stuttered at times, and had a small blush throughout the entire date, nothing went wrong, and they both seemed to enjoy themselves, which was a good start.
Naruto on the other hand, was feeling the same as Hinata but a problem had arisen. The feeling of forgetting something had come back. He tried to tell himself that it was nothing, but no matter what he tried to do to get his mind off of that feeling, it kept coming back, and it was present throughout the entire time he was at the stand. The time was about 6:00, so Naruto figured it was a good enough time to excuse himself and head home. The two said their goodbyes and Naruto headed back home.
As he got closer to his house, he felt like he was getting closer to finding out what he forgot. It felt like he got closer and closer until it hit him, Hanabi. Once he walked to the kitchen, he saw Hanabi sitting at the table, eating dinner.
She was what was left out during his day. Even though she had been staying with Naruto for less than two weeks, he still felt used to her presence, used to her bad cooking, used to her companionship. So not seeing her or talking to her all day had made it feel like everything from the last 2 weeks hadn't happened. If Naruto was being honest, before Hanabi had come to stay with him, his life had gotten pretty boring. But when she arrived in his life, albeit wasn't in a good way, it was very bizarre. So, when Naruto saw Hanabi, he was very relieved, and he felt grateful that he had her. Once he walked to the kitchen, he saw Hanabi sitting at the table, eating dinner. She turned and when she saw Naruto, a barely noticeable smile appeared on her face.
"Welcome home."
A/N: I know this chapter is a bit weird and it might even be confusing to some. But during this chapter I wanted to show how living with Hanabi had affected Naruto so far. I can imagine that Naruto and Hinata's date was a bit short and boring, but this is a slow fic, so what can you expect? Nonetheless, I hope you guys found this chapter enjoyable.
