Chapter 106: Guild Deck vs Celestial Deck
"What is this damage?" the smoking Cana asked, after Eclipse Scorpio dealt one damage to her life points with Gemini.
"Look!" the Twins chorused. "Your life went down."
"I'll explain the rules." Eclipse Scorpio remarked. "These four lamps are our lives. That is, they are our allocated points. If you lose all your life points, you're defeated. You lost one, so you have three left. The struggle to protect these lives is the best part of a card battle. If I blast away the three lives you've got left, you lose. When that happens, you'll become one of my cards."
"As if!" Cana snapped. "When I win this game, you're gonna go quietly as I close your gate."
"Winning is everything to a card player." Eclipse Scorpio smirked. "And the results will bear that out. So, time for a turn change. It's your turn."
"Then, I'll construct my deck out of my comrades, too." Cana grinned, realizing that Eclipse Scorpio's deck consisted of the 12 Zodiac. "That's the meaning of 'I am the rules'. The rules are you, the player, making up your own deck with your comrades."
"That's right." Eclipse Scorpio replied. "You catch on quick, as befits someone who uses cards."
"Put combos together, then unleash an attack." Cana continued. "I do that all the time. Fairy's turn, draw sequence. Standby sequence." she summoned a card to her hand and sent two cards to the field. "Happy! And I summon Carla next to him. These aren't the real things, are they?" she wondered.
"It's an illusion to liven the battle up." Eclipse Scorpio assured.
"And two more field cards on standby." Cana placed two more cards face-down.
"I love field cards." Eclipse Scorpio shivered in excitement. "Trying to predict what's next is such fun. You see, guessing the next card is my favorite part. And when the match is against a skilled opponent, that's especially stimulating."
"Battle sequence!" Cana went into attack mode. "Go, Happy!"
"I block with Gemi." Eclipse countered.
"That's one down." Cana beamed, Happy's headbutt sent one half of the Gemini twins to the Trash Zone.
"Destroyed cards are sent to the Trash Zone," Eclipse Scorpio explained. "That is, the Celestial Spirit World, and basically can't be used anymore. However, Gemini has a special effect. When a monster ally is destroyed, I can call one field card from my hand. Field card 'Celestial Spirit Punishment', open! I summon Virgo, the Virgin during my opponent's turn and once more summon a card from the Celestial Spirit World. Hence, Gemi returns to the field."
"And my summoning effect is drawing five cards from the deck." Eclipse Virgo added.
"Forget it!" Cana growled. "Turn change!"
"Zura!" the male half of Eclipse Pisces wailed as he was blasted out of the water.
"Sonny!" the female half of Eclipse Pisces cried after her son.
"You can't let him get away with calling you an 'old hag'." Mirajane chided, now in her Satan Soul form.
"I know your type!" the shark snapped. "The armchair critic who smugly trashes someone's parenting skills."
"You're too permissive with him." Mirajane scolded.
"We're the number one ideal mother and son!" the female half of Eclipse Pisces defended. "Now, sonny! Let's show her our special move."
"Got it, zura, old hag!" the make half of Eclipse Pisces readied himself.
"There it is again!" Mirajane frowned.
"Mother and Son Forbidden Hug!" the Twin Fish circled Mirajane, forming an underwater tornado.
"It seems, you're indulgent to each other." Mirajane punched the male Eclipse Pisces in the stomach and grabbed hold of the female's tail. Swinging the mother around, she smacked the son out of the water, before tossing the mother after him. "Did that hurt?" she asked, ending the relatively short fight with an energy blast. "Sorry. But since you're mother and son," she recalled her Satan Soul form, the Zodiac Key glowing in her hand. "It's not good to just mollycuddle each other." and tapped the key on the male Eclipse Pisces' forehead.
"Thank you, Mira." Aeon Mercury sighed in relief when the second rod cluttered to the ground. "Welcome back, Aquarius, Pisces."
"Celestial Spirit Card!" Eclipse Scorpio took his turn. "Draw sequence. Standby sequence. I send Mini to the Celestial Spirit World and summon Taurus the Bull! Battle sequence, Taurus attacks!"
"Carla blocks!" Cana countered. "Since my ally blocks, I open an field card, 'Bond of the Maiden'! Using 'Bond of the Maiden', I can do a special defense with two girl characters blocking. And so, I do a maiden summoning with Carla's best partner, Wendy the Dragon Slayer. With a 'Bond of the Maiden' combo between a Dragon Slayer and an Exceed, there's an additional effect: 100,000 attack. Plus, I get to draw three cards from my deck."
"Then I send Gemi to the Celestial Spirit World to add 200,000 to Taurus' attacking power!" Eclipse Scorpio counterattacked.
"You sacrificed your own comrade?" Cana was shocked.
"In a card battle, it's only common sense." Eclipse Scorpio reminded.
"Wendy, Carla!" Cana called.
"Let's cry over the cards that were sent back to the Celestial Spirit World." Wendy and Carla went into prayer mode, weeping tears. "Each tear shed adds 10,000 attacking power."
"Maiden tears are too much for a gentleman like myself!" Eclipse Taurus panicked. "But you have 500,000 attacking power?"
"Attack!" Cana ordered. "How was that?" she grinned after Wendy and Carla sent Eclipse Taurus packing with a combined uppercut.
"I'm sure you think you're coming ahead, but I expected Taurus' destruction." Eclipse Scorpio tsked. "When Taurus is defeated in battle, I get to summon the Scales, Libra! And an effect is activated when she's summoned. I compare Libra's attacking power to an opponent's and the lower one is sent back home. The side with the lower attacking power will rise higher." he added after Eclipse Libra picked Carla and Carla was sent to the Trash Zone.
"Don't cry, Wendy." Cana soothed. "Your tears have given us new strength. I predicted Carla would be destroyed. Field card, 'Wendy's Tears', open!"
"You predicted four steps ahead." Eclipse Scorpio gushed. "What a wonderful showdown!"
"With this card, I can summon two Mage cards from my hand." Cana declared. "Pair summoning: Ice Mage, Gray and Water Mage, Ulyo! How's that? You have something to look forward to to next turn."
"Well, let's leave it to here." Eclipse Scorpio shrugged. "Turn change."
"Fairy's turn!" Cana took her turn. "I draw one card and standby sequence. Go on, Titania Erza and Celestial Spirit Mage, Lucy. Battle sequence: Ulyo attacks Virgo! The effect of pair summoning: if Gray is on the field, Ulyo's attacking power is five times greater than usual."
"How naive." Eclipse Scorpio smirked. "When only Virgo is on the field during your battle sequence, I can do a special summoning. I summon Capricorn! Block!"
"Shut up!" Ulyo was not in the mood, blasting the literal scapegoat with her water dragon.
"He became Virgo's wall." Eclipse Scorpio added.
"Next, Erza attacks!" Cana gave the order. "When Erza attacks, I can use 'Requip' if it's in my hand. 60,000 attacking power!" she had Erza don on her Heavenly Wheel Armor.
"Virgo blocks!" Eclipse Scorpio countered.
"Erza has a higher attacking power." Cana reminded.
"When she blocks in this circumstance, the card 'Harsh Punishment' comes to the field." Eclipse Scorpio activated the card and causing Erza to fall into the spiked hole in the ground. "With the punishment, all special effects coming from the card sent home are negated. As a result, she'll be in the Celestial Spirit World forever."
"I admit you got me there." Cana noted. "But I still get to attack. You're up, Lucy."
"Libra blocks." Eclipse Scorpio countered.
"Special effect when Lucy attacks." Cana brought out a card. "I can summon if there's a Celestial Spirit card in my hand. Come, Loke the Lion!"
"But when you do a special summoning, Libra's special effect is activated." Eclipse Scorpio declared. "Libra compares her attacking power with that of the specially-summoned Celestial Spirit.
"I win." Loke grinned, blasting Libra into the Trash Zone.
"Now you can't stop Lucy's attack." Cana smirked.
"It can't be helped." Eclipse Scorpio relented. "You can have one of my lives."
"Direct Attack!" Lucy sent her whip straight at Eclipse Scorpio.
"It's marvelous." Eclipse Scorpio swooned. "You're the first person who's ever taken a life from me. However, when I lose a life, this card becomes a trigger I can use. I put a field card, '12 Signs of the Zodiac' on an open space." he placed the field card. "You'll have to wait till next turn to see what happens. Celestial Spirit's turn." he took his turn after Cana declared the turn change. "Draw sequence. Standby sequence. I summon Sagittarius the Centaur. Battle sequence. Virgo attacks."
"Lucy blocks." Cana defended.
"I can't move." Lucy found herself stuck.
"This is the effect of Virgo's attack: binding." Eclipse Scorpio replied. "The opponent's card is immobile in the field and can't block."
"Direct Attack!" Eclipse Virgo sent her whip flailing at Cana.
"How does it feel?" Eclipse Scorpio taunted. "It's quite clear that I've got you in a tight spot. And I like it. Being in a pinch reduces a player's thinking faculties and invites playing errors. I love to see my opponent get flustered at a time like this. Field card, '12 Signs of the Zodiac'. Battle sequence effect: I get to attack 12 times in a row. Even if your lives reduce to zero, the merciless attacks will continue. That's how formidable the effect is. I love how unfair it is. All right, attack number one." he took out Ulyo. "Attack number two." the next blast took out Lucy.
"'12 Signs of the Zodiac' attack." Eclipse Scorpio continued. "Number three."
"I have two lives left..." Cana muttered. "That's right." she remembered. "I forgot about that. I let this attack take one of my lives. When my life decreases, I can move 'Mavis' Patience' from my hand to the field. Just like the Shodai holds it when she needs to go to the bathroom, this card negates all continuing attacks. And I get to end your turn. Standby sequence." she took her turn. "I summon two Happy units. Happy's special effect. When there are three of them on the field, I send them to the Celestial Spirit World. I pay the summoning cost of three Happy units and summon Dragon Slayer, Natsu. And then, I use the field card 'Gray Strips' for the standby sequence. When that happens, his attacking power increases by 60,000. I put one card on the field. During the battle sequence, when Natsu and Gray are next to each other, Fire and Ice Combo is activated. Destroy the '12 Signs of the Zodiac'. Now you can't hit me with consecutive attacks." she beamed, after Natsu and Gray smashed the card.
"It's too early to breath a sigh of relief." Eclipse Scorpio was undaunted. "By turning the destruction of Zodiac into a trigger and sending two more cards from my hand home, I can do a gold summoning from my hand and bring out Leo the Lion."
"Loke attacks!" Cana instructed.
"I'll deal with it." Eclipse Scorpio shrugged. "Leo blocks. It seems my attacking power was greater." he noted after Eclipse Leo sent his counterpart to the Trash Zone.
"I turn Loke's return to the Celestial Spirit World into a trigger and activate it." Cana grinned. "Field card: 'Call from the Celestial Spirit World'! Happy is resurrected from the Celestial Spirit World and re-summoned. And the re-summoning lets me activate a combo. Fairy Merge with Natsu and Happy. Come forth, ultra-class merged Mage, Wing Nappy Dragoneel! Wing Nappy Dragoneel attacks!"
"Sagittarius blocks." Eclipse Scorpio defended. "He dodged?" he was surprised to see the merged Mage evade the Centaur's arrows.
"That's Natsu and Happy's combo effect." Cana winked. "They can slip past a blocking opponent and do a direct attack on the player!" she declared, Natsu leveling a fiery punch across Eclipse Scorpio's face. "Turn change! Two left."
"Standby sequence." Eclipse Scorpio drew a card. "I summon Aries the Ram. Battle sequence, Sagittarius attacks!"
"Gray blocks!" Cana countered.
"Continuing with a field card from my hand, 'Flames of Darkness'!" Eclipse Scorpio activated the card after Sagittarius's attack punched through Gray's ice shield. "My attacking power increases by 5,000,000."
"Nappy Dragoneel blocks!" Cana defended.
"I get all my lives back." Eclipse Scorpio added, his lost life points regained after the powered up Eclipse Leo's attack split up Natsu and Happy's combo. "It's the additional effect of a darkness combo. It activates when I successfully separate a merged Mage. And now it ends here. The coup de grace. Aries attacks!"
"You charged, right?" Cana grinned. "If I'm directly attacked when I have one life left, I can do an emergency summon from an S-class card from my deck! Come forth, S-class Mage, my father, Gildarts!"
