Chapter 114: It's Kemo-Kemo!

"Ten days now?" Ezra echoed, the rest of Team Natsu standing outside Natsu and Happy's house.

"Yeah." Lucy nodded. "He hasn't even shown up at the Guild. It looks like he's keeping the egg warm."

"He's not eating it, is he?" Gray guessed.

"There's no way!" Lucy protested. "After all, he did a good job keeping Happy's egg warm, didn't he?"

"Anyway, let's check on him." Ezra opened the door.

"Hey, Natsu!" Lucy ran up to the dozing Dragon Slayer on the couch.

"The egg..." Ulyo spotted the cracked shell.

"They ate it after all and got sick." Gray concluded. "What the..." he gaped when a shadow darted across the room.

"You're slow." Ezra summoned her sword. "Do you think you can get away like that?"

"What the hell do you think you're doing?" the droopy-eyed Natsu stopped Ezra's sword.

"You have eye-bags under your eyes." Ulyo pointed out.

"There you are." Natsu spotted the shivering infant under the sofa.

"What is that?" Lucy peered closely.

"It just hatched." Happy rolled over from his position on the rug. "We haven't slept, just kept it warm all this time."

"It's cute when you take a closer look." Ezra noted.

"So what is it?" Gray wondered.

"I have no idea." Ulyo admitted. "Looks like Happy's a big brother now."

"All right, I've decided!" Natsu held Kemo-Kemo in the air at the Guild. "Your name is Kemo-Kemo! Happy, we've got a new member of the family."

"I'd better do my best at the cooking." the blue Exceed noted. "I wonder what Kemo-Kemo eats."

"Are you sure it's okay to raise an unknown creature?" Gray wondered at another table.

"But Natsu-san looks so happy." Wendy pointed out.

"What's he gonna do if it's a demon or something?" Carla mused.

"It'll be a pain if it comes to that." Gray remarked. "He should obviously quit now."

"Erza, do you know anything about it?" Lucy asked.

"It's a nice dog." Ezra stated.

"Ulyo, has your computer finished scanning the egg scale?" Lucy asked.

"Not yet." Ulyo replied.

"Since when has this been a pet shop" Markov asked.

"He's not a pet!" Natsu protested. "He's family."

"Don't you get it?" Markov chided. "It's getting bigger even as we speak."

"That's right." Lucy agreed, the rest of the team gathered around. "Now that you mention it, it is a little bigger."

"However you look at it, that's clearly not just a dog." Markov stated. "I'm against raising something that might turn out to be a demon."

"Kemo-Kemo!" Natsu beamed when Kemo-Kemo breathed fire at Markov. "You can breath fire?"

"That's why I said it's no dog." Markov insisted.

"I don't care what you say." Natsu stood his ground. "I'm keeping him. Not even keeping! He's family."

"Master Markov," the Council Representative greeted Markov. "I have come from the Council with a message. Among the six Guild teams that put up a good fight in the Grand Magic Games, we've created an exchange student system wherein participants can broaden their knowledge of other Guilds. Six members can participate."

"Kemo-Kemo really is getting big." Lucy looked at the growing animal on Natsu's lap, the group were now riding the train to their destination.

"Now he's useful as a cushion." Gray deathpanned.

"Let's focus on being exchange students." Ezra reminded.

"Erza, you're blushing." Ulyo pointed out.

"It looks like you're focusing on something else." Lucy agreed.

"Welcome." Ichiya greeted, the six Fairy Tail members having arrived at Blue Pegasus. "Men."

"We're much obligated to you." Ezra returned.

"Looking forward to this." Lucy gaped. "So what are we supposed to do?"

"I've prepared wonderful work for you." Ichiya declared. "What's that?" he spotted Kemo-Kemo.

"It's Kemo-Kemo." Natsu introduced. "Do you know anything about him?"

"No." Ichiya replied. "Its parfum isn't that of a beast." he took a sniff. "As long as he doesn't bite any of our customers. Go ahead. Show them around."

"Now that I think of it," Ulyo turned to the Trimens. "Where's Nichiya?"

"Er..." Hibiki looked away.

"He's on a job." Ren replied.

"What is this?" Lucy wondered, looking down at the pink gown she was decked in.

"Certainly, it's no bad." Ezra admitted.

"That's like putting clothes on a packhorse." Gray mocked, the two boys were now in suits.

"Gray, your pants." Ulyo deathpanned, the water wielder was dressed in a maiko kimono.

"Now, to work." Ichiya declared. "Please attend to the customers, i.e. the clients in the lounge."

"I figured that's what it is." Lucy sighed. "Let's steel ourselves and go!"

"That's true." Ulyo agreed, snapping her hand-fan close.

"That's not good..." Hibiki commented, as he and Eve watched Ezra.

"I don't like how rough she is." Ren added in his two cents.

"And Ulyo-san on the other hand..." Eve turned to the amateur maiko who was chatting amiably with her customer.

"I've a bad feeling about this." Happy noted, playing waiter.

"No kidding." Ulyo agreed.

"So what did Markov say?" Obabasama asked, the Fairy Tail group were now at Lamia Scale.

"It sounds like Gramps didn't know anything about him, either." Natsu admitted, presenting Kemo-Kemo to the Guild Master.

"He doesn't eat or drink anything, but still keeps getting bigger." Lucy added.

"If Markov with all his knowledge doesn't know, then maybe it's a new species of something." Obabasama suggested.

"Of all people, it had to be you, and not Juvia." Lyon snapped.

"I'm not here because I wanna be." Gray retorted. "And why aren't you an exchange student?"

"You and I are different." Lyon scoffed. "Even as an exchange student, I have nothing left to learn."

"They've started again." Ulyo sighed, already used to the arguments between both Ice Make mages.

"What's that?" Happy asked, seeing Jura with a rubble of stone in his arms.

"Your work here." Jura replied. "Recently, we've had a request to decipher some lithographs that washed up to shore."

"What's this book?" Lucy asked, the group had moved to the library.

"A tome I brought from the library that looks like it may have some connection." Jura answered. "Here." he opened to the relevant page. "This is a dictionary." he pulled out another book. "But the writings are so difficult, they have me stumped."

"This is really more up Levy-chan's alley." Lucy moaned.

"Well, Levy isn't here." Ulyo pointed out. "Looks like it's up to us, then."

"Shut up!" Ezra snapped at the still arguing Lyon and Gray. "Ulyo and Lucy are trying to think!"

"Something stuck on this one." Natsu stated, spotting a group of mussels under one of the stone slabs.

"What do you two think?" Jura asked.

"This word is 'tree'." Lucy translated.

"Combined with 'light' and 'benefit', it's probably referring to photosynthesis." Ulyo concluded.

"But what does this depiction of people running running away from the smoke mean?" Lucy wondered.

"This is quite the enigma." Jura noted.

"I've heard enough outta you!" Gray snapped, sending a large piece of ice flying towards the table and smashing the stone slabs.

"Idiots!" Ezra barked.

"Well, having an excessive amount of power is a privilege of the young." Jura remarked serenely, before exclaiming in horror when he saw the demolished stone slabs.

"Let's see if I've got this right." Ulyo muttered. "Restore." raising a palm, she activated the Time Arc spell, reverting the slabs back to their original state.

"Ulyo, this is..." Ezra blinked.

"Just taking a page out of nee-san's book." Ulyo shrugged.

"By the way, Millianna, what is that huge slab of meat you're cooking?" Ezra looked over at the grill, the group had now stopped by Mermaid Heel.

"Sauteed deep-sea fish." the cat lover replied.

"Recently, they've been washing ashore for some reason." Kagura explained. "We tried adding them to the menu, and it went over well. I'm sorry for troubling you." she looked over at Ulyo who was helping Millianna at the grill.

"No," Ulyo replied. "This is a great chance for me to put kaa-san's recipe book to use."

"Natsu-san!" Sting rushed out of the Sabertooth Guild. "Hurry up! The exchange program is canceled. That's..." he pointed to the island in the middle of the sea after he and Rouge brought the Fairy Tail members to the watchtower.

"Is an island, right?" Natsu asked.

"What about the island?" Gray pressed.

"It suddenly appeared from the sea several days ago." Sting explained.

"An island suddenly appears in the ocean?" Lucy echoed. "Is that even possible?"

"It's true." Rouge confirmed. "We think the island appeared because of the recent occurrence where the ground shook."

"It's not a volcano." Lector added. "And it's got a real forest. It's some weird island."

"It's got structures, doesn't it?" Natsu blinked.

"So, the Council contracted us." Sting continued.

"We want you to explore the island." Lahar cut in with Wendy and Carla in tow. "Sabertooth and Fairy Tail, working together."

"What are you guys doing here?" Natsu looked at Wendy and Carla.

"Master told us to come." Carla replied. "You've been causing trouble all over the kingdom, so he told us to keep an eye on you."

"Lahar-san happened to be at the Guild just then, so he took us with him." Wendy added.

"If you want us to investigate the place, it would help if you told us everything you know about it." Ezra stated.

"This is the ruling of the Council," Lahar conveyed. "That island is dangerous."

"Kemo-Kemo?" Natsu noticed the stern-looking animal that was staring at the island.
