Disclaimer: I do not own King of the Hill or anything related to it. I do own the characters that can't be traced back to said show.
Before this chapter begins I'd like to make an announcement. Episode 5 and Episode 6 will be a two part mid-season finale for this story. These two chapters I'm hoping will move the story forward, I like to apologize now if I seem to be rushing things during the next two episodes.
It was finally Election Day in Arlen, Texas and with the latest shake up of Ted Wasonasong's arrest rattling the town this left Vergil Min unopposed. Ted still had loyal supporters who believed him when he said he was framed, however more evidence incriminating him kept popping up. In the end all protest was useless for Vergil Min was now officially mayor of Arlen.
"I guess it's official; Vergil Min is our new mayor." Hank Hill stated as he read the article in the Bystander
He was reading the paper as he stood out in the alley along with Dale and Boomhauer.
"Isn't it fantastic," Dale exclaimed almost dropping his beer, "best part is I've already received calls from people wanting to join RATS."
"People are actually willing to join?" Hank questioned
"Yep, by next Monday there will be a new team of Ratters protecting this town."
Hank tuned Dale out as he began revealing his plans for the new and improved RATS. Instead he returned his attention to his paper. This all seemed nuts; ever since Peggy's death almost a year ago along the incident with Zoma and Iago, things have gone crazy in Arlen. Now with Vergil as mayor it will only escalate.
"I still don't get it; Ted was ahead in the polls, why would he sabotage his own campaign?"
"I tell you what politics make people do crazy ass things." Boomhauer added
"Amen to that," Hank agreed, "I just wish Allison wasn't caught in the middle of it."
"How is Allison doing," Dale asked, "I'm not only asking as her savior but as a friend."
"She's doing good, the doctor said she can go home tomorrow."
"That's going to be a problem considering her house got trashed by a hippogriifamous."
"Her and Cameron will be staying with Bobby and I until repairs to their house are done."
"Yo, how is Cameron dealing with all this anyway?" Boomhauer inquired
"According to Bobby she's actually doing well," Hank replied, "I must say Allison has done a good job raising her I tell you what."
"Since she'll be out by Friday then maybe you can take her to the big game." Dale suggested
"I'll tell you what we better stop those got dang Mustangs from going to state." Boomhauer said
"Unless Thompson screws up then our boys will be the ones going to state." Hank added
"Don't worry my Joseph and the rest of the Mavericks will kick those Mustangs' asses."
They all cheered for the team before returning to their beers.
(Arlen High)
Cameron was walking down the hallway with Berry towards the cafeteria. Berry became upset after hearing from his friends that they encountered a Griffin.
"I go out of town and everything goes nuts," Berry complained, "that settles it; until we graduate I'm not leaving town."
They entered the cafeteria where Bobby and Jade were already at their table eating; since the incident with the griffin the two of them were patching up their friendship, a fact both Berry and Cameron were happy about. After grabbing their food, they joined their friends at the table.
"It's nice that we're eating together again," Berry spoke up, "but I think we need to discuss what we're going to do now that Vergil Min is mayor."
"Don't forget Mr. Gribble reforming his own monster hunting squad." Cameron added
"I'm not so concerned about RATS, "Jade calmly said as she took a bite of her lunch, "as someone who is a member of an actual effective monster hunting organization, trust me when I say RATS are just some idiots who've watched too many B-movies."
"Well at least Mr. Gribble won't ask you or Bobby to join," Berry said, "besides you two being his competition it would be weird to have the Arlen Werewolf on his team."
Barry was about to take a drink of his orange juice when the doors to the cafeteria swung open as the high school football team and their coach entered. They were accompanied by cheerleaders who immediately began to chant.
"Go, Mavericks, Go!" they chanted
"What's going on?" Jade asked
"Arlen defeated Durndell last week," Bobby explained, "Now if they beat McMaynerberry this week they'll go to state."
"How come they didn't do this last year." Cameron wondered
"Arlen lost to San Marcos at the start of the season last year and that bad luck seemed to stick."
"It looks like they recovered." Jade stated as she saw Joseph Gribble climbed on to a nearby table
"Mavericks!" Joseph screamed at the top of his lungs
The rest of the team joined in until they were stopped by Miss Bloodworth. Who was then approached by the coach. He stood a few inches taller than Miss Bloodworth and judging by the graying of his thin blonde hair and bushy mustache he was without a doubt an older gentleman.
"Alea, what's your problem?" the coach asked irked
"Seriously, Jacob," Alea said, "your team barges in here as if they own the place."
"It's Arlen High; the team and I are like gods."
"Wow," Alea stated in disbelief of Jacob's ego, "well gods or not they're disrupting these student's lunch period."
"Then I suggest you take it up with Principal Sanders." Jacob said
"I have a good idea whose side your brother-in-law will choose," Alea remarked, "everyone knows he's the only reason you got this job in the first place."
"I was hired because I'm a great coach."
"Only after you hired your new strategy consultant or whatever you call him."
"I was a great coach before Cyrus came along."
"That's debatable."
Bloodworth and Thompson continued to argue. Some of the students watched entranced in hopes that Bloodworth would punch Thompson in the face. Thompson's face got redder each time Bloodworth stated a fact about his coaching abilities.
"All the teachers and parents think you're a joke."
"She has a point," Bobby said to his friends at their table, "my dad had said countless times in the past three years that Coach Thompson is the worst coach in the history of Arlen High."
"Obviously he improved," Cameron pointed out, "last year the guy couldn't tell a blitz from a sweep."
The other stared at her in shock of her football knowledge.
"What a girl can't like football?"
"I thought all English people hated our version of football." Berry said
"Not if they're more into Rugby," Cameron corrected, "which American football is closer to than what you call soccer."
Berry was going make a comment when someone snatched is juice from his tray. They all glanced up to see that it was Joseph that snatched Berry's drink then watched as he chugged it down.
"Hey, Gribble, I paid for that." Berry yelled
"Needed a vitamin c boost, freak." Joseph said before tossing the empty bottle on their table
Bobby glared at Joseph. He couldn't believe how much his former best friend had changed in the last year after he ditched Bobby for the other football players, for the soul purpose of becoming more popular. He was snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Joseph talking next to him. He turned his head to see Joseph had sat down next to Jade and started talking to her.
"So, I was wondering if you would be my date for the victory party after the game Friday." Joseph asked while trying to act charming
"Don't you need to win the game first before having a party?" Jade questioned
"With our hot streak we're guaranteed to beat McMaynerberry."
"Okay, but aren't you dating Emily North, the head cheerleader?" Cameron asked
"We got into an argument," Joseph informed, "I figured if she sees me with another babe she'll get jealous."
Joseph casually wrapped his right arm around Jade and rested his hand on her shoulder. That's when something in Bobby snapped, he jumped up and with great strength yanked Joseph from his seat onto the floor.
"What gives, dude." Joseph shouted as he quickly got back up onto his feet
"I'm not going to let you use Jade as arm candy just to make some stupid cheerleader jealous."
Smack.
Bobby fell to the floor with Joseph standing above him with his fist ready to strike again. Bobby was about to get up and beat Joseph to a pulp, but Miss Bloodworth and Coach Thompson had come over to stop things from escalating. Thompson managed to get Joseph away from the scene as Bloodworth helped Bobby up.
"Bobby, look at me." Bloodworth instructed
When he looked at her she noticed a cut under his left eye where Joseph had struck him. Bloodworth then escorted Bobby from the cafeteria to her classroom where she hoped Bobby could explain what happened in case Thompson got Sanders involved. Bobby was covering his left eye with his hand as he sat in a chair next to Bloodworth's desk as she was digging through a small first aid kit.
"So, why did Joseph Gribble punch you for exactly?" Alea asked as she pulled out a small piece of cotton
"I don't know," Bobby answered, "he was talking to Jade, he put her arm around her then I yanked him off his seat."
"Why was he talking to Jade?"
"He was going to use her to make his ex-girlfriend jealous."
Alea got all the items she needed to patch up Bobby.
"Well then, Bobby, I'm sure Sanders will understand," she stated, "luckily you didn't fight back."
"Joseph wouldn't be worth getting expelled over," Bobby said, "like punching Coach Thompson wouldn't be worth losing your job."
Alea chuckled.
"True, now let's take a look at that eye."
"Maybe I should go to the nurse," Bobby suggested, "that's why she went to medical school."
"She's at her great aunt's funeral," Bloodworth said, "be glad my mother was a nurse a cut like this is easy enough to treat, now remove your hand."
Bobby hesitated as he removed his hand praying that his enhanced healing hadn't kicked in yet. Alea stared at injured area for a moment which made Bobby nervous, but she quickly cleaned the blood off and placed the bandage under his eye.
"There we go," Bloodworth said, "if you can avoid defending your friends then that cut should be gone before you know it."
"Thanks, Miss Bloodworth."
Bobby left Bloodworth's classroom and returned to the cafeteria. Meanwhile Coach Thompson had let Joseph off with a warning and had returned to his office in the gym. He took off his hat as he sat down at his desk; he took a can of Alamo from the mini fridge he had in his office and opened it.
"You realize consuming alcohol on school grounds is a good reason for you to get fired."
His unannounced visitor nearly made Thompson drop his beer. Standing at the door was a man with blonde hair and blue eyes. He was between Hank and Bill's height with a similar build to Boomhauer. His outfit consisted of a white long sleeve button up shirt with a dark blue tie, black slacks with matching shoes.
"Cyrus, would it kill you to knock?" Jacob asked as he put his beer back in the fridge
"Don't worry, Jacob, I won't narc on you unless you don't give me one." Cyrus said
Thompson smiled as he retrieved his opened can along with an unopened one and handed it to Cyrus. The man now known as Cyrus sat down with his beer in his left hand. He took a sip before getting to the reason why he had come to Thompson's office.
"I heard your star quarterback got into an altercation less than a half hour ago in the cafeteria."
"It wasn't a fight," Thompson corrected, "the punk didn't even try to fight back."
"I assume that Gribble was let go with a warning?" Cyrus wondered
Thompson went on to explain how Bloodworth and himself had separated the two boys along with Joseph's account of the incident.
"Hill was lucky he didn't fight back," Thompson said, "then my dear brother-in-law would've suspended him."
"Important thing is that Gribble will be able to help us defeat the Mustangs Friday night."
"I'll drink to that, pal." Thompson remarked
Jacob tossed his head back and began chugging down his beer while Cyrus on the other hand simply took a sip and then smirked as a topaz mist filled his eyes.
It looks like there's another demon in Arlen. Hopefully the Wolf Pack (that's what I'm calling Bobby, Berry, Cameron, and Jade) can handle him. If they do will it affect the big game on Friday? Stay Tuned P.S. Lately I've been thinking about rewriting and publishing some of my earlier KOTH stories I've written off this site years ago mostly for fun. Its a mass crossover story involving characters from other shows. First part of the series is based around duel monsters from Yu-Gi-Oh! then later shifts into the Sci-Fi genre. Plus some of the characters from Werewolf Of The Hill originated from that universe, thus making WOTH an alternate version of that one. So let me know if that's something any of you would be interested in.
