Disclaimer: I do not own King of the Hill
The wolf got closer, its eyes widened, ears erect and forward. Its mouth opened baring its sharp canines at the demon; it then charged, Cyrus didn't get a chance to defend himself as the wolf knocked him the ground with its jaw wrapped around his right arm and its claws digging into his chest. Bobby, Jade, Berry, Cameron, and Iago watched as Cyrus struggled to throw the wolf off him.
"Is that the wolf that turned me?" Bobby wondered as he watched
Cyrus let out a wailing scream as the wolf bit off his left hand. The wolf tossed it to the side as it removed itself from atop of Cyrus. The now one-handed demon stood up with a bit of difficulty, he waved his right hand to fling the wolf away. To everyone's surprise the wolf remained in place. Cyrus kept trying, however the result was the same. Bobby stepped closer, Cyrus turned to attack him, but once again he failed. Jade couldn't believe what she was seeing, she had heard many other Crusaders talk about how demons were one of the most powerful none universal beings to walk the Earth. Yet here is one that has been rendered powerless. She glanced over at his severed hand.
"Do all their powers come from their left hand?" Jade wondered as this would help the Crusaders rid the world of demons forever
Cyrus cried out as he realized what had happened.
"This isn't over." He screamed
He snapped his fingers to vanish, but once again failed.
"NO!"
That's when Iago approached him.
"Iago, please," Cyrus begged as he tried to catch his breath, "they found a way to disable us, we need to warn the others."
"Unlike you they'll be smart enough to figure it out on their own." Iago said as he raised up his left hand and with a pulling motion a cloud of a topaz colored mist came pouring out of Cyrus' mouth
Once the last of it was out Iago snapped his fingers igniting the mist. When the mist burned up Cyrus' former body collapsed to the ground. Bobby reverted to his human form, he raced over to Jade who was doing her best to slow down the bleeding. He assisted her by placing his hands atop of hers, together they applied more pressure which miraculously stopped the bleeding.
"We did it." Jade cheered
"Don't worry, Joseph, you'll be safe." Bobby promised
Bobby turned his head to see that both Iago and the wolf had disappeared. He then heard Berry and Cameron run up, he quickly explained what happened. Cameron rushed around and knelt next to Joseph's head then checked for a pulse.
"Guys, I don't feel a pulse or anything," Cameron shouted in panic, "I think we were too late."
"His pulse is probably just weak." Berry said trying to stay positive
"I'm afraid Miss Garfield is correct."
Bobby didn't need to turn as he knew who was there. He regretfully slipped his hands away from Jade's.
"Bobby, we can still save him." Jade pleaded
"It's too late."
Jade turned around and saw Death standing behind them.
"I'm sorry my dear," Death apologized, "if it helps you preserved his life by an extra three minutes."
"Helps me," Jade retorted as she stood up, "my hands are covered in blood of the person that saved me."
"I would assume as a Crusader you'd be used to death."
"I vowed to protect the innocent from harm."
"You're Death, can't you simply resurrect him?" Cameron begged
"Only if someone was willing to give up their own soul in exchange." Death remarked
The four of them exchanged glances, but not one of them spoke up.
"There's no shame in self-preservation," Death said, "besides you four are too important."
"So was Joseph," Bobby stated, "we've may have not been best friends anymore, but he meant the world to his parents, he had people that cared about him, hell I still cared about him. "
"There's a lot of things you four need to know about your destinies." Death stated
"I thought fighting Circe was my destiny?" Bobby recalled
"She was a stepping stone as is Vergil Min."
"Why?"
"I'm sorry, young wolf, but that is something you'll have to discover for yourself."
Before Bobby could demand more answers from Death, they heard sirens blaring as a fleet of cop cars and ambulances arrived. Red and Blue flashing lights filled the parking lot as several others blocked off any possible exits.
"We're trapped." Berry shouted
Suddenly they found themselves inside Bobby's car in the alley right outside of Bobby's house. They quickly exited the car gazed around confused on how they got there. The first one to speak was Cameron
"How?" was all she could say
"Death." Bobby answered
He turned towards Jade who was staring at her still bloodstained hands. Looking down he saw the blood of his friend of fourteen years still fresh and warm on his own.
"Why didn't he stay away?" Bobby thought
Cameron walked up to him.
"Anything I can do to help?"
"Distract your mom and my dad while I sneak Jade into the bathroom."
Moments later Cameron was in the kitchen where Allison had her wrapped tightly in her arms repeating over and over how she was glad her daughter was safe. Berry was standing guard outside the bathroom as Bobby was rinsing the blood off his hands. He watched the blood quickly disappear down the drain as he wished the pain and guilt would go away just as fast. Jade was sitting on the edge of the tub, she had cleaned off her hands before Bobby, but she was vigorously scrubbing them with a wash cloth as if there were blood still on them. She eventually stopped this pointless action then lowered her head and noticing for the first time the blood on her shirt. Bobby told her to stay put as he briefly left the bathroom and headed towards his room. He returned seconds later with the shirt his dad got him from New Hoffenscheim three years earlier. He stood outside of the bathroom along with Berry as Jade changed into his old shirt. She opened the door and stepped out into the hall.
"Thank you."
"Not a problem, besides you look better in it than I ever did." Bobby complimented
Jade let out a soft chuckle. He then escorted her into the living room where everyone was trying to comprehend the events that have taken place in the last hour. Allison and Cameron had gone into the kitchen to make some tea that they brought out in coffee mugs. They handed everyone a mug, which even Hank a loyal coffee drinker grabbed one an took a zip.
"If any of you need to talk about tonight, I'm right here when you're ready." Allison offered her services
"Thanks, Dr. Garfield." Bobby said speaking for them all
They were halfway through their tea when Jade's cellphone went off. She reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out her phone. The word mom was displayed on the caller I.D.
"Hey, mom," Jade answered, "I'm fine, yeah, I'm at Bobby's, we're all safe."
Bobby could hear Jade's mother, Emma speaking on the other end of the phone. Jade's eyes widened as her mother said something that caused her to hang up the phone.
"Mr. Hill, I need you to take me to the hospital right now." Jade eagerly said as she jumped off the couch
