Disclaimer: I do not own King of the Hill.

Welcome to Episode Seven of Werewolf of the Hill: Year Two. I'm giving you a heads up that there's a lot of things that are going to happen in this chapter, especially at the end. On another note; A large amount of this episode will be focused on my OC, Greg Stokes.

(Dallas Texas: 10 years ago)

Tied to a chair with a floor lamp on both sides was a young blonde girl; no more than thirty-one years of age. She was struggling to break free from her bindings as her captor was nearby. She didn't know where she was, all she could tell was that her abductor had brought to what seemed like an old restaurant. Despite the layers of dirt and dust; the kitchen seemed functional for she could hear the man chopping something through the swinging doors.

"I told you, my dear, there is only one way to escape." The man said from the kitchen before the door swung open

The lights from the lamps made it nearly impossible for the girl to see her captor clearly. The only thing she knew for sure was that he was wielding a chef's knife.

The man began circling her; slowing running his knife against a honing steel.

"Please, let me go!" the girl begged

"The more you take, the more you leave behind, what am I?"

"WHAT? "

"Answer the question."

The girl repeated the question in her head. She had trouble thinking for the sound of the knife sliding across the steel was distracting.

"The more you take…." The man repeated

"Footsteps, the answer is footsteps."

"Excellent, time to see if you can answer the next two correctly."

Meanwhile a black car pulled up to the restaurant. Two men stepped out; they were Detectives Greg Stokes and Alan Chase. Each had their guns drawn before they quickly but quietly approached the door to the restaurant.

"You sure he's in there?" Alan asked

"That substance that we found on the last victim was a type of cooking grease," Greg stated, "a type that was discontinued eight years ago shortly after this place closed down."

"I swear you'd make a better forensic scientist than a detective."

"Then who will save your sorry Australian ass from whatever mess you get yourself into?"

"That, and the fact that you look horrible in a lab coat."

"Bite me, Alan."

Their banter was interrupted by a woman's scream from inside the building. Not wasting a second; the two detectives barged through the door where the suspect was standing in front of the victim with a bloody knife in hand.

"Dallas Police!" Alan yelled

The man dropped his knife before running off through the doors leading to the kitchen. Alan raced after him while Greg ran up to the woman. To his relief she still had a pulse and was still breathing, the bastard had sliced her along the left cheek and her right arm, but the important thing is that she was alive.

"Cassidy, I'm Detective Stokes, I'm here to bring you home."

Cassidy didn't say anything, she only cried and then hugged Greg after he cut the ropes. Alan returned to the room without the suspect in custody.

"Bastard got away." Alan said holstering his gun

"Important thing is that we stopped him from claiming a ninth victim." Greg stated

"I just wished I've caught him; I couldn't live with myself if another person got killed because of me."

Alan kept beating himself up as Greg called for backup and an ambulance for Cassidy. An hour later they had returned to the station to continue their mission to track down the serial killer. On arrival; Greg noticed an envelope on his desk. Picking it up he noticed that it only had his name on it and that it was addressed to the police station. Alan stood next to him as he ripped the envelope open and took out the letter.

"When you have me, you better not waste me," Greg read out loud, "hopefully this special lady will be with you when we next meet, signed The Sphinx."

"I don't understand." Alan said confused by the riddle

Greg tossed the paper on his desk.

"The Sphinx is telling us better luck next time."

(Arlen Present Day)

It was the third week in January; two months after Vergil Min became Mayor of Arlen and the death of Joseph Gribble at the hands of the demon Cyrus. This however didn't stop Hank Hill from inviting his friends, neighbor, and some of Allison's colleagues from the hospital over for a cook out and to celebrate Allison's birthday. Hank was at his usual spot manning the grill while Allison was sitting at the outdoor table with Nancy Gribble and Emma LaRue. Boomhauer was standing off near the garage where he listened to Dale prattle on about how he and the mayor were going to save Arlen from monsters.

"Thank God for dang ol' beer." Boomhauer thought before taking a drink

Amongst the party goers was of course the Wolf pack. They were sitting at another table watching Boomhauer as he became increasingly agitated by Dale's ramblings. He eventually walked away hoping to talk to somebody less erratic. Bobby giggled at the sight, it reminded of him how things use to be before all this supernatural stuff entered their lives. He then saw Jade's dad Herve walking up to Hank with a plate of raw steaks.

"How's your dad doing?" Bobby asked as he watched the two men interact

"Surprisingly great," Jade replied, "although according to my mom there's been a few times that he forgot that he wasn't in a wheelchair anymore."

"Not unexpected," Cameron said, "he got so use to it after half a decade."

Bobby's gazed returned to the two men who were both now laughing at something one of them said.

"Does he remember how he got in the hospital?"

"All he remembers is that he went to rescue me and then waking up able to walk again."

"That's normal for someone that experienced a traumatic event."

The gang practically fell out of their seats when Greg Stokes approached their table. He chuckled at the teenager's reactions before sitting down next to Cameron.

"Sorry about that," Greg apologized, "just a little habit I picked up from my days in Dallas, came really handy when sneaking up on a perp."

"Not to mention scaring children." Berry who was holding his chest stated

"So, Mr. Stokes, what are you doing here?" Bobby asked

"Allison invited me, I guess free food and beer is her way of thanking me."

"My mum can have trouble showing gratitude," Cameron informed, "but in this case how exactly can you thank someone for saving you from a griffin."

"True, and if you don't mind me being honest, I only accepted the invite so I could talk to the four of you."

It wouldn't take a highly trained investigator like Greg to see that comment made the four teenagers nervous.

"You see, I've been investigating all the sightings of supernatural creatures ever since I've moved to town," Greg explained, "from the incident at the football game two months ago to an elderly couple that saw two unknown creatures fighting near Sugarfoot's awhile back."

"We don't know anything about Sugarfoot's except their ribs are amazing," Bobby said, "and as for the football game…well I lost a friend that night, so I try not to think about it too much."

Greg reached into his back pocket and pulled out a small envelope.

"I agree that Sugarfoot's has the second-best ribs in Texas, but I'm actually here to talk to you about…."

"Excuse me," Hank called out as he walked up to the table, "can I help you Mr. Stokes?"

"I'm just having a conversation with your son." Greg replied

"I can see that, it's just that this party is for friends, neighbors, and co-workers."

"I understand," Greg said as he stood up, "however, Allison invited me."

"Okay, I guess she forgot to tell me, you're lucky I got plenty of steaks."

"I ate before I came."

Hank left the group still clearly annoyed about Greg showing up unannounced. Greg sat back down and proceeded with his questioning. He opened the envelope and pulled out two pictures and then showed to the gang. In the first picture was of Bobby, Berry, and Cameron in a parking lot. While the second picture was the four of them standing outside of Coach Thompson's office with Berry picking the lock.

"The first picture is from a security camera from the night that Seth Ryker and Ava Mckay were killed at Nine Rivers and the second is from the night that Joseph Gribble was killed." Greg revealed the origins of the pictures

Greg could tell that each of them were trying to come up with some explanation about why they were in the pictures.

"Look, I'm sure there's an innocent reason why three of you were in the parking lot, but the four of you breaking into the office of a now deceased coach needs a better explanation."

Bobby wasn't sure how Stokes got the pictures, but he knew that his skills as a former Dallas detective were involved. He also knew that Greg Stokes wouldn't be as easy to lie to, unlike Mr. Gribble.

"I know you're all good kids, but if you don't give me a good explanation then I'm afraid I'll have to get the local PD involved. "

Thankfully at that moment a silver car pulled up in front of Hank's driveway. This got the attention of everyone who looked to see who was getting out. Hank approached the car where he was shocked when he saw who got out.

"Kahn!?"

It indeed was Kahn Souphanousinphone, Hank's old neighbor and the previous occupant of the LaRue house. Everyone that knew him was surprised to see him for he made a big dramatic exit after he got a new job as a system analyst for some company in Dallas. The only thing that was different about him was the fact that he was wearing a suit and tie. Kahn had a smug grin on his face as he saw how everyone was staring at him.

"That's right, rednecks, Kahn Souphanousinphone is back." Kahn announced

While Bobby was surprised to see Kahn; it was the other person that got out that shocked him even more. Connie Souphanousinphone, Kahn's daughter and Bobby's ex-girlfriend. She unlike her father appeared different from the last time he saw her. Her hair was shorter, barely growing pass her shoulders; she wore a long sleeve magenta shirt over a white blouse, along with a pair of dark grey pants and black dress shoes.

"Who are these people?" Jade asked

"Kahn and Connie Souphanousinphone," Bobby answered, "they lived in the same house your family does."

"Also, Connie is Bobby's ex-girlfriend." Berry added

Greg stood up and walked away knowing that he wouldn't get an answer from any of them at this time. Hank meanwhile had asked Kahn about the reason he had returned to Arlen.

"I'm going to be a character witness for Ted Wasonasong." Kahn explained

"You came all the way from Dallas just to defend that jackass's character?"

"Typical hillbilly; why waste money on something I could do through webcam," Kahn mocked, "we also came here so that Kahn Jr could get a chance to meet Cassidy Swan."

Greg; who was helping himself to a fresh cold can of Alamo glanced over at Kahn at the mention of this name. After handing his beer to a random guest, Greg approached Kahn.

"I'm sorry, did you say Cassidy Swan?"

"Yes, she's the top violinist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and rumor has it that she's looking for a protégé; which if she picks Kahn Jr then it's be smooth sailing for her musical career."

"I actually know, Cassidy," Greg informed, "I'll be more than glad to make a call for you."

"How does a redneck know someone as elegant and beautiful as Cassidy Swan?"

"This redneck used to be a detective back in Dallas and met her on a case ten years ago," Greg informed, "plus we were married for eight years."

"Well she's here in Arlen as part of her little tour speaking to musicians at colleges and universities."

"Funny, I talked to her two months ago and she never mentioned anything about coming to Arlen."

Kahn and Greg's discussion about his relationship with the violinist gave Connie the chance to go over to the table where Bobby was sitting.

"Bobby, its good to see you." Connie greeted with a hug

"Same here." Bobby said

He went to introduce her to Jade and Cameron, but Berry needed no introduction for it turns out that Connie used to tutor him back in middle school. Connie then sat down next to Bobby across from Jade.

"Which one of you lives in our old house?" Connie asked

"That would be my family." Jade answered

"I assume you're in my old room?"

Jade gave Connie a partial glare.

"You have a problem with that?"

"No, its just that I used to have a poster of the singer Jade on my wall in middle school."

"I've forgot about that," Bobby chuckled, "that is a bit ironic."

Jade took a sip of her juice to avoid adding to the conversation. Connie went on to talk about her new school in Dallas and how she was hoping to become a great violinist under the tutelage of Cassidy Swan. Connie then took out her violin and showed it to them. She revealed how it was the exact same type that Cassidy plays.

"You should hear her play," Bobby said, "she could make a statue cry."

"I'm not that good." Connie humbly stated

"I would love to hear you play something." Jade said

Connie thought about it for a minute before she got up and walked into the middle of the gathering. Seeing his daughter doing this got him excited.

"Everyone, my daughter, Kahn Jr, is going to show you exactly why she deserves to be Cassidy Swan's pupil."

Everyone's eyes glued on Connie as she prepared her instrument for a quick performance.

"Maybe I should make that call to her now." Greg thought as he took out his cell

The phone rang for a minute before it went to her voicemail. Greg assumed she was busy and simply left a voicemail to call him back.

"This piece is from a section of Ludwig von Beethoven's Concerto 5." Connie announced before playing said piece

Once the song begins the scene switches to Tokyaki's, a once successful Japanese restaurant that had to close its doors after an elderly gentleman fell onto the teppanyaki grill after suffering an allergic reaction to shrimp and suffering third degree burns. These events resulted not only in his death, but a decline in costumers. This didn't stop someone from breaking in and utilizing the abandoned equipment. Vegetables were cooking on the grill as Cassidy Swan watched helplessly from one of the stools facing the grill tied up once again by rope.

"Reminds me of old times." the man known as The Sphinx stated

"Why come after me again?" Cassidy asked

"You're the one that got away," Sphinx replied, "beside the extra ten years not only made you smarter, it made your meat more tender."

"Let me go!"

Sphinx stepped out from behind the grill with the knife in his hands, this gave her a decent look at him. The Sphinx was a blue-eyed man in his forties with graying black hair. He wore a chef's outfit minus the hat which he had found in the restaurant's storage closet.

"You know how this works, answer my questions."

Cassidy struggled as she tried to break free from the ropes as he approached her.

"Tall I am young, Short I am old, while with life I grow, Wind is my foe, what am I?" Sphinx asked

"A candle." Cassidy replied

"Impressive, Ms. Swan," Sphinx complemented, "you've got better since last time."

"Just let me go." Cassidy pleaded

"If you have me, you want to share me, if you share me, you haven't got me, what am I?" Sphinx continued ignoring her

"A secret."

"One more and you'll be free."

"Why should I trust you?"

"My kind is obligated to free those who can answer our riddles."

"What do you mean your kind?"

"Last question my dear," Sphinx said, "People find me, they also can lose me, they have killed for me, sacrificed themselves for me, yet some hide me, what am I?"

Cassidy began to sweat for she had to make sure her answer to this riddle was correct. Sphinx grinned as he closed in with this knife.

"Love," Cassidy spat out, "one can find love, they can lose something they love, people had fought wars and killed themselves for love, and some people hide their true feelings for someone they love."

Sphinx stepped forward and with an evil grin inserted his knife into her left shoulder which her scream was covered by the last note of the song as Connie was finishing. Back at the party Connie bowed as everyone around her applauded.

"I'll admit that Connie has gotten even better since the last time I heard her play." Hank said

"She's a shoe in," Kahn praised, "if Cassidy Swan doesn't choose her then she can go to hell."

Greg was the only one not clapping for he was still trying to get ahold of Cassidy. He had known her for ten years which for eight of them they were married, but not once had she never returned any of his calls a few minutes after he left a message.

"Excuse me, Kahn," Greg called out getting the Laotian's attention, "do you know where Cassidy is staying?"

"Hotel Arlen, where else."

"Thanks."

Greg got into his car and left the party for the Hotel Arlen. Connie had packed up her violin when Bobby walked up.

"I forgot how amazing you are with that thing." He said

"Well, I still practice each day," Connie stated, "so it's only natural I've got better at it."

"This is going to sound scary, but I agree with your dad, if that lady doesn't pick you then she's an idiot."

Connie chuckled.

"I'm glad that you still can make me laugh," she said, "none of the guys in Dallas can do that."

"Like your music skills my comedy has improved." Bobby commented

Connie smiled before bringing up something that needed to be addressed.

"I visited Joseph's grave before coming here," she revealed, "you should have called and told me instead of having to learn about it on the news."

"Things were very chaotic that night." Bobby said

"I understand that, but I recall all three of us were best friends," Connie pointed out, "Joseph would've called if it had been you that died that night."

"Joseph and I had a falling out shortly after you left."

"That doesn't matter, I had the right to know."

"You're right, I should've called."

Nancy and Emma appeared from the kitchen with Allison's birthday cake in hand. Everyone gathered as Hank lit the candles. As the crowd began to sing Happy Birthday, Greg had arrived on the third floor of the Hotel Arlen where Cassidy was staying. Greg knocked six times on the door to her room, but there was no reply. He then returned to the front desk in the lobby where he explained the situation to the clerk, who then notified the manager. The two of them then returned to the third floor where the manager used their master key to open the door. Once inside both Greg and the manager were horrified by the condition of the room. Cassidy's sheets and blankets were on the floor, sheet music scattered, vases broken, and carved on the wall were the following words. What does a Sphinx and a boomerang have in common?

"NO!" Greg shouted after seeing the words

"What?" the manager asked seeing Greg's reaction

"The Sphinx, he's back."

So a little bit of Greg's past has been revealed. A serial killer has come to Arlen. Plus Kahn and Connie have returned. Stay Tuned.
