Good morning everyone! Happy Sunday! I hope your week was good! If not, then hopefully this'll make you feel a little bit better!
Chapter Twenty-One
I smiled as I looked down at my phone. Edward sent me a little funny picture that he swore would make my day. It's been four days since our first date, and everything had been going wonderfully.
We went to Lucy's diner, that was a blast. We had cheeseburgers and milkshakes. It was very lowkey, and definitely my idea of a date. Then after that we walked around Bloor street and the neighboring streets. We found a little park that I didn't even know was here. It was really cute.
Now we were planning our third date. Edward suggested a movie night and I'm all for a night at the theater. There was a new movie I was dying to see; it was based off one of my favorite books. It had just come out a few days ago.
I was pretty sure Edward would rather see anything else; it was a romantic drama. But he said he'd watch it. It made me feel good that he would watch a romantic movie with me.
"Bella, are the specials done yet?" Riley asked as he poked her head into the kitchen.
I jumped slightly, "Yeah, sorry. I'm pulling them out now."
I shoved my phone back down into my pocket and pulled out the turnovers. It took me just a minute to drizzle the caramel over it. I brought the huge tray out to the front. As I walked out of the kitchen, I spotted a familiar face. I smiled and blushed.
"Hello, I was hoping to speak to the most beautiful baker? Is she around?" Edward teased with a little smile.
I smiled as I placed the turnovers in the display, "What can I get for you sir?"
"A little kiss would be nice," He said cheekily.
I giggled, "Sorry, but that's not on the menu."
He pouted, "Hm, well, how about a box of your fantastic turnovers?"
"Now that I can do." I said, "Where are you going today?"
"I'm meeting my sister and her fiancé. We have to go over some wedding details." He said.
I boxed up his turnovers and handed it to him, "Tell Alice I said hi."
"You could come with me. You need a little lunch," He said as he took the box.
"No, I'm sorry I can't just duck out," I said, "But I'll see you later tonight right?"
"Don't worry, I haven't forgotten," He said, "I'll pick up the Chinese and be at your house by seven."
I smiled, "Perfect. I can't wait."
"Oh hold on, you have something right there," He leaned across the counter to wipe something off my cheek, but as I leaned across the counter, he stole a quick kiss. I playfully swatted at him.
"Get out," I laughed, "I have work to do."
He chuckled and grabbed his box, "See you tonight, beautiful."
I rolled my eyes and waved the next couple forward.
"You two are such a cute couple," The old woman said.
"Thanks," I smiled, "How can I help you?"
A Few Hours Later
Riley had just left, and now I was running the counter and the kitchen until Maggie got here. This time of day it was very slow, which made it easier for me until Maggie got here.
As I was wiping down the counter, Rosalie walked in.
"Hey, Mrs. Cullen." I smiled.
"Please, Bella, call me Rosalie," She said, "I was in the neighborhood and I was dying for something sweet. I figured I'd stop by to see what you had."
"Of course," I said, "Anything you'd like."
"That's chocolate cake is looking delicious," She said, "And so is the macaroon."
"You want both?"
She bit her lip, "I really shouldn't but what the hey. I'm eating for three now."
I chuckled and got her items out of the display case, placing them in a box.
"You know what, could you throw in some of that peanut butter chocolate fudge?"
I grabbed a piece, "Is there anything else I can get you?"
"Actually, I'm meeting Emmett across town in an hour. Would you mind if I ate this in the back?" She asked, "I've been shopping all day and I need a little break."
"Of course," I said, "It's really slow this time of day. Just come on back. Can I get you anything to drink?"
"No thank you, I have my water."
We walked back into the kitchen. She sat at the counter and opened her box.
"So, are you excited for twins?" I asked her.
"I'm so excited," She said, "Emmett and I are figuring out baby names. He's one hundred percent positive we're having boys. I think we're having a girl and a boy."
"That would be nice. You could get one of each and be done with one pregnancy." I said.
"We'll be having more after this. I've always wanted a lot of kids. Like eight or so." She said.
"Eight kids?" I said, "Wow, that's a lot! You must really love kids."
"Oh I do," She said, "I grew up without any siblings, and both of my parents worked. It was very lonely. So, I've always wanted a lot of kids."
"Well, I think you'll make a great mother."
She smiled widely, "Awe, thank you so much."
The bell to the front rang, and I excused myself. A few customers had come in. Once I finished taking their orders, I walked back to the kitchen, when I did, I noticed Rosalie looking a little pale.
"Are you okay?" I asked.
"I-I'm not sure," Her hand pressed against her forehead, "I feel kind of hot."
"You want some water?"
She shook her head, bracing herself against the counter. I walked around and placed my hand on her back.
"Do you need me to call Emmett or something?"
Her breathing became very labored, "I-I think I j-just need to lay down."
She got up from the stool and started to the door but stopped. Her hand was gripping the counter tightly.
I happened to look down at the stool, then the back of her pants. I gasped.
"Oh my god," I said, "Rosalie, just-just sit down. I'm going to call an ambulance."
I rushed to my phone and called for an ambulance.
"Rosalie just relax," I said, my hands on her shoulder.
"What's going on?" She asked weakly.
"Um, y-you're bleeding." I said.
She looked down at her pants, her eyes widening, "Oh no. The babies."
"Just relax, the ambulance is on their way." I told her, "It'll be okay. Do you want me to call Emmett?" I asked.
She grabbed her purse and placed it on the counter. She didn't reach into it, but instead her head started to fall. I helped her lean against the counter. When she closed her eyes, I started cursing.
I grabbed her phone and tried to open it. Unfortunately, it was locked and I didn't know the code. I cursed again and grabbed my cell phone.
He picked up on the first ring, "Well, you couldn't get enough of me—,"
"Edward, it's an emergency." I said quickly.
"What happened?" He asked, his voice panicked.
"It's Rosalie, she came by the bakery and she was in the kitchen and she passed out! There's blood everywhere."
"Oh fuck," He said, "Uh, did you call an ambulance?"
"Yeah, I can hear them now."
"Alright, I'm calling Emmett."
He hung up the phone. I walked into the front to lead the paramedics to the kitchen. They picked Rosalie up and placed her onto a stretcher. She was somewhat conscious, but her head kept falling
As I watched them load her into the ambulance, I shut down the bakery and hopped in. For some reason, I didn't want her to be by herself. This was all really scary and I'm sure being by herself wasn't something she'd want.
"What's going on with her?" I asked the paramedic.
"Not sure. The doctors will be able to figure it out."
I bit my lip and looked back down at Rosalie. She looked so pale, and she was still bleeding. God, I hoped everything was okay.
We got to the hospital and I followed as they wheeled her to the back. As I was waiting in the waiting room, I heard a loud booming voice that I immediately recognized.
Emmett was standing at the receptionist's desk, demanding to know where his wife was. I quickly walked up to him.
"Emmett," I said.
He turned around, his face looking absolutely terrifying. I gulped a little.
"Where's Rosalie." He demanded.
"They just wheeled her back."
"What the hell happened?" He asked.
"She was at the bakery, and then she wasn't feeling so well. She was bleeding everywhere and then she passed out." I said quickly.
"They took her back that way?" He pointed at the door. I nodded.
Without another word, he ran back through the doors. I watched, biting my lip, and wishing there was more I could do.
"Bella!" Someone said behind me.
I looked up to see Edward, Jasper, and Alice rushing through the door. Edward grabbed me in a tight hug.
"What happened Bella?" He asked.
"Well, Rosalie came into the bakery, and she came back to the kitchen to eat her stuff. I walked to the front to deal with some customers and when I walked back to the kitchen she was looking really pale. And then she stood, and I saw blood all over the stool and her pants. She passed out before the ambulance got there. I don't really know what happened, the paramedics didn't say."
He nodded, looking completely worried. I felt so badly, I wished there was something I could do to make them feel better.
Esme and Carlisle walked through the doors, scanning the room, and quickly coming over to us.
"What happened?" Esme asked, her eyes filled with unshed tears.
"Same thing that happened last summer," Alice said sadly.
"Oh no," Esme shook her head, her tears finally falling.
"What happened last summer?" I asked in a quiet voice.
"Oh Bella," Carlisle said, "I didn't even see you there. How are you dear?"
"I'm okay," I said; Esme pulled me into a tight hug.
"This isn't Rosalie's first pregnancy," Esme said when she released me, "This will be her third. This has been the farthest she's gotten. Last summer, she miscarried in the same fashion. It was so hard on her; I didn't think she'd recover. I can't imagine what she's going to go through now."
"Oh no," I said, looking down at the floor, "That's horrible."
"That's it, I'm paying for the IVF." Edward said, "I can't stand it. Every time she loses one, it's so hard on both of them. I just don't want them to go through this anymore."
"Not now Edward," Carlisle said quietly.
Edward opened his mouth to say something, but Emmett walked out from the back. He was looking down at the floor.
Esme ran over to him, grabbing him in a tight hug, "Is Rosalie okay?"
He sighed, "Rose will be fine. She just needs to rest. They're going to keep her here for a few days to monitor her."
"And… the babies?" Alice asked softly.
He shook his head. He didn't need to elaborate. We knew what happened; she'd lost them.
"I'm so sorry man." Jasper said.
"Yeah, is there anything we can get you?" Edward asked.
He shook his head, "No. I'm just going to stay here with her."
"I'll talk to someone and get you guys into a better room." Edward said, before walking to the receptionist.
Emmett turned to me, "Thanks for getting her here. I appreciate it."
"No problem," I said, "I'm really sorry."
He nodded, "I'll call you guys if anything changes. But Rose doesn't want anybody back there yet. She's… she's upset."
"Of course," Esme said, "I'll be back in a few hours, with some clothes for you guys."
"Thanks. I'm going to get back there now." He said as he walked through the doors again.
"Jesus," Carlisle sighed, "I can't believe this happened again."
"Poor Rosalie," Esme said, "She wants children so badly."
My cellphone rang. It was Maggie, I stepped away to answer it.
"Hello?"
"Bella are you okay?" She asked, "My dad said there was an ambulance outside of the bakery. Is everything okay?"
"Yeah Maggie," I told her, "Sorry, one of the customers needed to get to the hospital. I'm on my way back now. Do you remember the passcode? Would you mind going in and turning the ovens off? I think I accidentally left them on."
"Sure. Do you want me to open the bakery back up?"
"Yeah, if you don't mind. If anyone comes in, just tell them I'm on my way, and you can only serve what's in the counter. There are a couple people coming by to pick up their orders. I've marked each one, and what the owe is written on a piece of paper. It's also sitting on top of each cake."
"Okay, sounds good. I'll see you soon." Maggie said before hanging up.
I shoved my phone back into my pocket. I'd have to call a taxi to get home, but I didn't even have my wallet.
"I'll drive you Bella," Edward said, "I know you've got to get back."
"Thank you."
"Good seeing you Bella, thanks for helping Rosalie." Carlisle said.
I smiled at them, waving before walking out of the hospital with Edward.
Kind of a sad chapter! And a bit of a filler, but I'm trying to show time progression without making huge time jumps, if that makes sense. I want it to seem more natural. And I also want to show the progression of relationships and what not. In a few chapters, there will be a bit of a time jump, but it won't be too bad. I also read through it and did a little editing, so hopefully I got all of the mistakes. Anyways, I hope you liked it! Leave me a little review and let me know!
