Chapter 2: Questioning

Kagome stood frozen in fear with her back against the door for about a half an hour. She couldn't believe what she had just witnessed. Even after standing there for so long her heart rate was still elevated, beating a mile a minute.

Someone had just murdered an innocent women, right in front of her face. Never in her life would she have thought she'd be in this type of predicament.

Looking around her apartment she searched for the house phone. She knew she had to call the police, because if she didn't she was a criminal.

"Oh. My. Kami," she whispered once she grabbed the phone. Pacing back and forth she was frantic. "What do I do, what do I do?" she asked. Stopping mid step she demanded, "Get yourself together, Kagome." Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Count to ten. Opening her eyes, she exhaled feeling much calmer as she dialed 911.

"911 , what's your emergency," they answered.

"Someone was murdered in front of me," she explained.

"OK, where are you now, ma'am?"

"I'm home, bu-but it happened downtown in the alley of club Shikon. He saw me. He saw who I was. He looked right at me!" she tried to stay calm, but it was hard as tears started to form. Taking another deep breath she sat down on her Italian leather couch, not trusting herself to stand any longer.

"OK, what's your address. I'm sending units to the club now."

"1033 Goshinboku Ave, apartment 801."

"Someone is on their way now."

Kagome hung up the phone and ran to her room. Grabbing her big suitcase and large duffle bag out of her closet she started to pack. She couldn't stay here anymore. She knew for sure that if they hadn't followed her they would surely find her.

She made sure she grabbed everything she would need while she was away so she had no reason to come back here. She'd be gone until they caught the murderer whether they told her to or not. She was NOT staying around to be found. So until they caught him she wouldn't be staying in this city. She wasn't ready to die and she refused to be stupid and act like this wasn't a big deal, because it was. She slipped into some jeans, a sweater, and loafers before continuing her packing.

Knock, Knock, Knock

Startled, Kagome jumped then looked over at the clock. Ten minutes had passed since she called the cops.

'That was fast,' she thought skeptical of how quick they got there.

She tiptoed to the door and peeked out the peep hole. Seeing an officer in uniform she quickly opened the door and pulled him in before shutting and locking it back.

"Kagome Higurashi?" the officer asked after getting over his temporary shock from being pulled in the apartment.

"Yes."

"I'm officer Taijiya, to my understanding you witnessed a murder on Tama St?"

"Yes," she repeated.

"If you would come with me. We need you downtown for questioning," he said motioning to the door.

Kagome hesitated then shook her head 'okay' before going to get her stuff. She was not coming back here if she didn't have to.

Making her way over to the couch she grabbed her suitcase, dufflebag, backpack, keys and wallet. Only she couldn't find her wallet. That's when she started to panic.

"Oh no," she looked around frantically. "I can't find my wallet. What if they have my wallet?! They know who I am! They're gonna find me and kill me!" she spazzed.

"Miss Higurashi calm down. Nothing's going to happen to you," he assured. "Now if you would hurry," he said grabbing her suitcase from her. It was almost bigger than her and he didn't think she'd be able to handle all of it by herself.

Kagome bit her bottom lip, nervous, and followed him out of her apartment. She made sure to lock it up behind her.

All kinds of things ran through her mind as she thought about them having her ID. She wondered why they didn't come for her when they found out her address.

'They're most likely plotting something...' she worried herself. Just then she remembered. Her ID was in her car. She took it out earlier that day when she was pulled over for her taillight being out.

'Thank Kami, for burnt out taillights,' she praised as she followed the young officer.

As soon as they arrived in the lobby her eyes went to a women who was petite and small. She was obviously asking the woman at the front desk about the events that had occurred.

She smiled and nodded a 'thank you' to the man before turning to her partner and Kagome. She had long brown hair and big brown eyes. Even though she was small, just by looking at her eyes, you could tell she had a big and loving personality.

She was so tiny, and Kagome couldn't help but wonder how she would look in action. She was sure whatever she did she could probably handle herself well.

"Hi, I'm officer Takahashi. You can call me Rin," she smiled warmly at Kagome. "Is everything set, Kohaku?"

"Hai," he confirmed.

"Alright then, let's go," Rin said leading the way to the patrol car, a black charger.

The whole ride down to the police station Kagome thought about what would happen to her next. She had no idea what was in store for her. Everything just seemed so surreal. She was hoping to wake up and laugh at this nightmare and go to school to turn her paper in. She was waiting for the joke to be over, but as time went on she realized that the joke had just begun. Her whole mood was shot down and she barely even noticed when they arrived at the station. She barely registered getting out of the car and making her way into the building. When she finally focused on her surroundings she was sitting in an empty room with a table and a two way mirror.

Staring back off into space Kagome continued to let her mind roam as she waited for someone to come in and talk to her.

The door opened no more than two minutes later and she was awe struck as a man with long silver hair and golden eyes entered the room. If she couldn't tell he was a demon from the odd colors of his hair and eyes, the pair of doggy ears he had sitting atop his head confirmed it. He stood about 5'11 and had a lean muscular build. Accompanying him was a man with short black hair in a ponytail at the base of his neck. As she focused her attention on him his eyes captivated her, they were a deep violet color. Though his eyes weren't as beautiful as the other occupant of the room, just looking into them she knew she could trust him.

"How are you doing Miss Higurashi? I'm Detective Takahashi but you can call me Inuyasha, and this is my partner Detective Houshi," the golden eyed man stated.

"Pleasure to meet you," his partner said. "You can call me Miroku."

"Hi," she said quietly.

"So I understand that you were a witness to a murder that occurred on Tama St?" Inuyasha asked eyeing the girl closely.

"Yes," she confirmed, hearing that for the second time in the past hour only made her feel worse.

"Are you willing to make a statement?"

"Yes," she repeated then watched as Inuyasha pressed a little red button on a recorder.

"What happened, Miss Higurashi?" Miroku asked concerned. He could tell the events from the day were really affecting her.

"Well I was coming from the club-"

"What club?" Inuyasha cut her off.

"Club Shikon… and-"

"What exactly were you doing at Club Shikon?" Inuyasha asked with a hint on something in his voice.

Kagome watched as Detective Houshi shifted and cleared his throat, but the half demon ignored him. He was staring at her intently and she wasn't sure what his angle was, but she had nothing to hide.

"I was there celebrating my best friend's birthday. May I continue, please?" Her voice was calm and leveled. Once she got a nod of approval from Inuyasha, she continued.

"I heard screaming and crying." She was staring at the flashing red light on the recorder, replaying the events in her mind. "I tried to keep myself from looking because, to be honest, I didn't think it concerned me. The screams were coming from an alley right beside Club Shikon and my car was on the other side of said alley so I had no choice but to walk past. Once I got to the entrance I heard it." She could feel the tears forming in her eyes as she remembered. "I heard a gunshot and I couldn't help but look... then I saw the girl. Her clothes were ripped… she was banged up pretty bad.. and he had shot her in the head. She was just lying there… dead. I could tell he had raped her and once he saw me he aimed at me, but I ran before he got the chance to do anything. I ran all the way home. I don't know if they followed me or not, but-" Her eyes snapped to Inuyasha's. "I can't go back to my place, I can't." she shook her head frantically.

"It's going to be OK, Ms. Higurashi. We're not going to let anything happen to you," Inuyasha said softly.

Kagome held his gaze got a moment before shaking her head 'OK'

"So you saw the man shoot the girl?" Miroku asked.

"No, I didn't look until I heard the gun go off..."

"You said he turned the gun on you? Did you get a good look at him? Would you be able to identify him to a sketch artist?"

"Mmhm," she shook her head in a positive notion. "It was pretty dark but I'll try my best."

"Was there anyone else with him?" Inuyasha asked this staring at the clearly disoriented girl.

"No."

"Are you sure?" he asked looking a bit confused.

"I'm positive, it was only him and the woman in the alley. I didn't see anyone else." she said with a hint of annoyance in her voice.

Clearing his throat Inuyasha spoke, "Okay, well thanks for your cooperation Ms. Higurashi. Are you aware that you will be put under the Witness Protection Program?"

"Yes," she answered once again.

"Alright, we're gonna take you down to the sketch artist so you can give him the description of the man you saw."

"Okay," she stood when they stood. She took a deep breath and followed them out of the room. This was going to be a long night.
