After Alex had gotten out of the shower and they had breakfast they made their way to the lab. Alex kept watching over her shoulder and Brennan noticed. She wrapped her arm around the child as they walked. Brennan was thinking of ways to mention the doctor to Alex; she didn't know how she would react. Alex pressed up against Brennan's body as they walked through town. "This is a really nice neighborhood Dr. Brennan...i-uh mean Tempe. Im sorry." Alex said. Brennan smiled, "It is very nice and you don't have to apologize. They're still names I go by." She says as she rubbed Alex's hand as she held it. Alex smiled and as they approached the entrance of the Jefforsonian Alex stopped. Brennan saw Alex's mouth wide open; she was clearly in awe of the massive building in front of her. "You work here?" she asks and Brennan smiled proudly, "I do. C'mon we have a big day ahead of us." and they continue to make their way to the entrance. Brennan showed her around the lab and introduced her to Hodgins, "Alex, this is Dr. Hodgins, he's our forensic entomologist, he analyses particulates," and before she could finish Alex had made her way into his office and was staring at his microscopes and the MASSSPEC. Brennan laughed, "she loves science and microscopes. If you couldn't tell." "I've never seen a microscope with this many numerical apertures, I can't imagine the resolving power on this." Alex says, "You have a really cool office, Dr. Hodgins." she continues. Brennan and Hodgins share looks and are impressed with the 10 year old's vocabulary. Alex walks back towards Brennan and shyly looks up at Hodgins, "If you'd like, you can hang around me for a while." he suggests. Alex considers his invitation but then asks, "Alone? Would we be alone?" as her grip onto Brennan tightens. Brennan kneels down, "Dr. Hodgins if one of my personal friends, you'll be safe here. He'll protect you." she said. Alex looks up at Hodgins once more, "I'd like that Dr. Hodgins." Hodgins holds out his hand and Alex takes it. He helps her out on a stool. "Alex, I'll be in my office or on the forensic platform, okay? I'm always a few footsteps away." Brennan says at the doorway, "Okay, Tempe." Alex says while putting on gloves. Brennan shares a smile with Hodgins and walks away.
Brennan had noticed Alex didn't trust men. She needed conformation that she would be protected. She walked into her office and received a call from Booth. "I detained Miguel, he's not speaking, but I can hold him for the moment because of the particulates." He said. Brennan sighs, "hell have to talk sooner or later. Alex is here with me in the lab. She's really enjoying it, she's frightened by all men…. I think Miguel sexually abused her, Booth." She says sadly. Booth sighs, "son of a bitch, we'll solve this soon, okay. But, you know we'll have to question her Bones." He says. Brennan pauses for a moment, "yes, I know. I plan on taking her to the pediatrician today. She was obviously neglected." "Okay we'll go from there. Just stay cautious Bone, we don't know if the calaveras are out there watching you guys." Brennan nods, "yes, of course. Talk to you later Booth." And she hangs up the phone. Time goes by and Alex knocks at Brennan's office door frame. Bones looks up and smiles, "Hi Alexandra, you can come in, you don't have to knock. You're always welcomed in here." Alex smiles and walks in. She had a pep in her step and you can tell she was elated to be there. "Did you learn anything from ? Are you having a good time?" She asks. Alex nods with a smile on her face, "Yes, so much. He showed me some fungus and spores under the microscope! They were beautiful." She says as she sits across from Brennan. "Are you hungry? I have some snacks here." Bones asked and Alex replies, "Yes, please." Brennan hands her an apple juice box and a granola bar. The little girl happily dipped on her juice box. "Alex, when was the last time you went to the doctor?" Brennan asks, Alex stops chewing and swallows. "I can't remember, really." Alex says. Brennan looks at the child with such sympathy. "We'll, as your foster mother, I want to make sure you're healthy. I'd like to take you. Dr. Kane is a good friend of mine, she's super nice." She says while smiling. Alex smiles, "the doctor is a girl?!" She asks excitedly, Brennan nods, "yes, she is! Would you like to go with me? Today to see her. For a checkup?" Alex looks at Brennan, "will you be with me the whole time Tempe?" She asks with somber eyes. Brennan grabs Alex's fragile hands and holds them gently. "Of course, I'll never leave your side." She says. Alex takes her other hand and places it on top of Brennan. "Thank you Tempe." Alex says.
